I have always liked this little place, a tiny bit expensive (well it is Tiburon) and some of their cakes can get a little stodgy, but I was there recently and made two discoveries that ratcheted them up in the Yelp rankings. Their lattes are excellent, lovely Italian style, gentle to the bean and not too aggressive. Really, very good. And you owe it to yourself to try their strawberry cupcake. I know, cupcakes are trendy, and strawberry? Really? But trust me. It was like a strawberry shortcake in cupcake form, only lighter with this intense berry flavor and a slight crystallization to the frosting. Finally, a great bakery in Marin that sells treats other than cupcakes and cakes! Sweet Things bakery carries cupcakes, small cakes, cookies, truffles, and other sugary items. After trying thier cookies at a bridal shower some years back, we decided to stop after a beautiful day in Tiburon. Despite a somewhat hidden location, we found the shop, and after peering at their desserts (thier lemon cake looked yummy!), we decided to get a mud cupcake and red velvet. They were to die for!- I never knew that you could get a New York cupcake thousands of miles away in little Tiburon. The red velvet was moist and had the right amount of savory frosting while the mud cupcake was ooey-gooey with its rich chocolate taste. I called in an order for a chocolate cake without any problem but when I called the day i was to pick it up the woman who took my call was without cause bad-mannered. When I placed my order I was told the cakes are made the same day, not true! when I picked up the cake the teller took his sweet time to help me ever though he wasn't doing anything. On any given day, this place is really really good, or just so-so. I've had amazing desserts here, but also ended up with stale, obviously more than a day-old scones, bars, and cookies. For the price, this place should be consistent, and sadly, it isn't. I just called this bakery to ask about a flourless chocolate cake, and the woman who answered was unbelievably rude to me. She told me they have a "fallen angel" cake, and I asked if that was flourless, and she said in a completely contemptuous tone, "I just told you, we have a fallen angel cake. It's flourless." Though the sweets at Sweet Things Bakery are delightful, it's the management/customer service that is responsible for this lack luster review. My elderly father and I have been regular customers for some time. The bakery has two large picture windows, but they always keep the shades down. My dad really enjoys the view from the windows, and he, at first, raised the shades himself so as not to bother the busy counter employees. He was told not to do it. Each time we ask if they could please raise them, they act annoyed and will only roll up one of the two. Usually, the table by the shade they open is already occupied, so my dad isn't able to look out the window. They refuse, with no explanation, to raise the second one. We regularly come in late in the afternoon when no sun is coming through the windows. We simply don't understand why, if it makes a customer so happy, they react negatively when we simply ask to raise the shades. We want to patronize small, independent businesses like this one, but, here, we feel unwelcome, as though we are bothering them with our simple request. I'm actually afraid to ask, anymore, to raise the shades. We'll probably start going to Peet's instead... read more

I cannot buy/eat crummy baked goods. The Black Tie cake at Sweet Things is far and away the BEST bakery cake you can buy. It tastes delicious and homemade with chocoate and real buttercream frosting. Forget your ultra fancy bakeries (i.e. Katrina Roselle, etc.) and order a cake here. We just threw a baby shower, half-sheet was almost gone with 27 people. You can always tell how good a cake was by the cake plates -- clean or not. All plates were clean. Give it a try, you'll be hooked. read more

One of the poorest customer service experiences I've ever had. After purchasing and consuming a delicious cupcake from their bakery, I decided to check out the goodies they had in the home goods store next door. Although most of the items were ridiculously overpriced(a $60 paperweight was among the selection), the boutique was quite nice and had a warm feel about it. As I perused the store a blonde woman, who worked there, shoved past me without so much as an "excuse me." I brushed it off and continued to look around. As I was exiting the store, the same woman, folding a table cloth stood in front of the door. As I said to her "excuse me" she looked up at me with the nastiest look and said in an annoyed and rude tone "What?" I proceeded to tell her I was trying to exit the store and all she said was "oh" and walked away. I have never felt so Uncomfortable and unwelcome. Needless to say, I will not be taking my cupcake or home goods business here again. read more

I went into the store today to buy gifts for my employees today. The sales women was very helpful. She had several suggestions for me. When I looked at their lotion products from Italy I was told by the owner not to touch smell or open any of the products. She got upset with me when I flipped the cover to look at the ingredients. This is a new line of Italian products. I asked if their were any sample's. The owner said there were none available. The store has beautiful items and products. But the owner is horrible to customers. She has white short hair. I do recommend the store but only go there when the owner is out. I have never been treated so poorly as a customer. I am a very sophisticated consumer of Italian products having traveled to Italy several times. I think the owner thought I was beneath her maybe because the store is in Tiburon and I was wearing sweats. I did buy a few items only because the owners employee was so nice. The owner should sell her store or either stay away from customers.. I won't go back if I see the owner in the store. I have been to the store several times and never saw her before. I have always had a pleasant shopping experience there except for today because of the owner. The Grinch who stole Christmas. That's how I felt after I left. read more

I bought almost 200 cupcakes here for my wedding and our guests said that they were better than getting the usual fondant covered wedding cake. My favorites are the black and whites and the red velvet cupcakes...yummmmmmmmmy and moist every time!!!!!! The prices are very reasonable ($2.10-$2.25 each) and the cupcakes are a good size so you don't feel like you are getting ripped off. This small, local bakery is much more delicious than any Wonka establishment. I have been enjoying Sweet Things cupcakes and cakes for 6 years and always had a great experience. As far as I have found, this is the only bakery in Marin that gets cupcake frosting right--creamy and NOT TOO SWEET! Sickeningly sweet frosting is a total deal breaker for me and after recent disappointing experiences with SusieCakes and Teacake, I can appreciate Sweet Things' frosting even more. The cake is also very moist and the cupcakes are the perfect size (not huge!).
