I stumbled upon this beautiful little shop last year when traveling for work. A friend and I were browsing a bit for holiday gifts and were greeted by Jane herself! She asked us questions to understand our needs and then showed us products to help. She and the rest of the crew were so warm and friendly! We had a wonderful experience. After using the products at home in CA for a few months, I knew I'd fallen in love. I've placed several orders since my trip last year both for myself and loved ones. Each time I order, I'm shocked by how quickly I receive my products seeing as they have to come all the way across the country to reach me. Each order has had a hand-written personal note from Sophie thanking me for my purchase. So sweet! I also have sent a few emails asking questions or for recommendations and always get a kind, thoughtful and thorough response. It's so different from most commercial businesses and I love it so very much. It's these types of little touches, the extra care and effort, that keep me constantly looking forward to when I can visit again in person. Let me first start out with the positive. All 3 women who did our nails were funny, personable and and had great personalities. They definitely made us laugh. The salon is really cute with a lot of nice soaps and facial care products and cool little knick knacks you can buy. Unfortunately, paying $80 per person for an express mani/pedi, that's a quick one with no massages, is pretty high especially when the nail polish starts chipping on the second day. We paid $10 extra for some polish that was supposed to be similar to gel but its def not. By the second day both me and my sisters nails were chipped on the sides. Also, and this is a side note, when I called originally to book the appt, I asked the girl on the phone if they had wine there and she said yes. When we were getting our nails done they informed me that, that was incorrect and they do not carry alcohol but you can BYOB. That's a big difference. I would have brought some had I known that, since there was 3 of us getting nails done for my sisters wedding and I wanted to make it a little more special, especially since she doesnt do that kind of thing often. Like I mentioned, the girls in the back were all great but I would not reccomend this place to anyone based on my experience. The quality and price just doesnt match up. read more

My husband and I came for a weekend getaway and he sent me to get a pedicure. I happened to come across this place since it was close to our Airbnb and the reviews were fantastic. I decided to try out this spot for the first time to get a mani. I wanted to really treat myself and try to restore my nail's health as I typically did gel polish. I loved that they offered a service to remove the gel and revitalize my nails. A few things- 1. I wish the nail polish was organized better, I thought only the small frame to the left was the long lasting polish- I wasn't aware there were a whole other 3 rows or I probably would have picked a different color 2. I was never offered water or tea as the other ladies getting their nails done were 3. I booked a deluxe mani but I guess there was a miscommunication and I was only given an express. I didn't realize that there was a mistake made until she was half way through my polish and I saw another lady getting her massage before the polish. Once at the register the women ringing me up realized there had been an error and she did "make it up" to me pretty well for #3 however I never brought the first 2 points to the staffs attention. Otherwise, this is a really lovely little place, the people were friendly, and everything was very clean. I had my first facial here and was completely blown away. I've had many facials in my life and they are mainly all about scrubbing, squeezing and massaging. This was not that facial. My esthetician, Chelsea, took the time to talk about my skin and how I care for it. She even asked what kind of activities I do to get a better understanding of what happens on a daily basis. She was very knowledgeable about all the products and chose ones that were specific to my skin type. This is NOT your typical facial and I was very pleased by the whole process. I found Jane Gee in my 3rd Trimester and was looking at natural products use during pregnancy and post partum. I discovered their Rose Geranium oil has been touted as stretch mark prevention and gosh did it smell amazing. It was expensive but I can say it was worth every penny. $68 for 6 months of daily use during 3rd Tri and 4th Trimester I received 0 stretch marks. This is a miracle worker and it smells amazing. Now, you're probably wondering but REALLY how much weight did you gain? Full disclosure: 60lbs and 35 were in the last trimester due to gestational diabetes and 14 days overdue! I can't say enough good things about it and if you ever need a baby shower gift - get this because your friend will be swimming in onesies and very few gifts for herself. read more

Prices aren't amazing, but if you do a little bit of comparison shopping you'll still find plenty of things that are still worth it. Wonderful store! Really well informed staff all around. All products are made as basic as possible. It doesn't feel "snobby" if you will but the prices are VERY expensive! That is part of the reason why I can't give 5 stars just too expensive- have to go to other stores to find similar things as I just can't afford most things there. Additionally, this past summer I tried to switch to an all natural skin routine (I have acne and very dry skin/eczema). All the staff there were wonderful, giving me so much information and recommendations. However, my skin was the worst it had been in years! My eczema was terrible and painful and I broke out like a teenager. I switched back to my old routine (which are still very good, high end products- still need to invest in my skin but still better cost for the amount of product). However, I still used the vitamin cream and emu oil. Loved both of those! The emu oil is especially wonderful when i get painful dry patches on my face. I'm almost out of it (after about 9 months and that little bottle) and I may just have to splurge to get another as its just amazing and I can't seem to find it elsewhere. Also, Jenny who does the facials is amazing!!! Probably the best facial I've ever had. She is also amazing for doing eyebrow waxing. She is so gentle I think I almost fell asleep! But again just everything is so expensive that on a college student budget just can't afford to shop there. read more

I agree with the others- this place is a gem: an extraordinary find in downtown Portsmouth neighbored by a cigar shop and a parking garage. Elegant, (mostly) local, organic, handcrafted, luxurious ....stuff. Candles, lotions, soaps, detergents, skincare, home fragrance....all kinds of stuff. High-end stuff here, so visits are typically not cheap. They carry Phyto stuff here, which I've only ever found on-line. Great for browsing and features lots of things to try and smell. I'd recommend to locals and tourists alike. The staff is exceptionally pleasant and helpful. Most importantly, I haven't encountered any snobbery here, which is sometimes rare in a boutique place selling sophisticated, luxury or high-end goods. In other words, they don't get defensive when visitors come in and don't understand why one of their bars of soap costs as much as a 3-pack of Dial or Caress. Instead, they explain the quality and ingredients, and point to their bowl of free samples to take home and try. I LOVE the lavender-lime soap. Don't be alarmed if you see me walking through downtown Portsmouth with my face in a white paper bag - I'm not sick, I'm sucking in the wonderful aroma of my favorite soap that is neatly wrapped inside the bag with paper and twine. read more

I stumbled upon this gem of a place at the beginning of this past summer, and went back a few times over the course of it. Specializing in all natural skin care products (but not limited to) which the owner makes in Rye. It is owned an operated by a charming Australian woman, who is knowledgeable and easy to talk to. She has everything from facial lotions to bath salts and lip balm. The ingredients are totally natural and the products smell wonderful. I also purchased a turkish bath towel for a friend and one for my mother with a wonderful mix of colors. You can wear it, or hang it as a tapestry on your wall. I was sold right when I saw the wall filled with them. I also picked up a lovely homemade bracelet (made by the owners daughter) and a few heavenly smelling candles. Let me first say that the overall experience here was phenomenal. The staff were all very personable, accommodating and super nice. My attendant noticed tension in my leg from an injury and paid a little more attention which was SO NICE! There were 5 of us that came for a bachelorette (3 pedi, 2 mani) However the end result and quality of the finished product was not worth the price or the time of going to a salon. We opted for the "gel alternative" which has a nice shine and dries very quickly but my edges are lifted because it was painted outside the lines etc. One girl that got a manicure had the opposite problem where the technician didn't bring her polish far enough down and it instantly looked like she had growth. Her nails also started chipping on the tips by day 3. If you want to have a great experience go here. Maybe try the regular polish you might have a better experience. I will try again because I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt. Overall, best experience I've had, although it was a less than favorable result/look. read more

I discovered Janegee years ago and have been a loyal client since! My first experience there was walking by and I stopped in to look around. Jane came up to me and spent time going over my skin and recommending the best products for me. The products are luxurious, clean and all natural. It has become an annual tradition for my mom, aunt, and I to go in and get facials with Chelsea, which is something we look forward to! The facials are wonderful and unlike any other facial you have had, my favorite part being the lymphatic drainage. Jane and her staff are so kind and always available to answer questions and help in any way they can. The main reason I am writing a review now though is due to their efforts and community outreach during the Covid-19 pandemic. Jane and her staff have been very creative in ways to stay connected with and support their clients and community at large. Jane does several live Facebook chats each week discussing different topics and their product line, but also addresses positivity and hope during this difficult time. Jane has started a Facebook meditation group which is held Sunday mornings and her guided meditations are amazing! They have also been doing giveaways to healthcare workers and working with local hospitals to help get them some of their products that the healthcare staff can use and are in need of. She also has chosen to delay opening her store beyond the governors opening, because she feels it is the safest decision for her staff and clients. That is a selfless and difficult decision to make as a small business owner! They are offering curbside pickup and free shipping on all orders until they reopen. My mum and I wandered in here yesterday as we were browsing around Portsmouth. I had read about the store online and was curious about the products they had to offer. The first thing I noticed was that the store smells lovely without being overpowering. Within 3 minutes of being inside, we were approached by Jane herself, who gave a brief explanation of her methods and background. Jane mentioned that she had a product that would help the acne on my jawline. What I appreciated most was that she did so in a way that was neither condescending nor obvious, as Im very self conscious about these breakouts. She recommended the Clear Skin oil and the Facial Kit, both created by Jane. Mum and I looked around a bit more before checking out with the skincare. I was so excited to try everything that I couldn't stop talking about it on the way home. I immediately went to the bathroom and followed the steps of the facial kit very carefully. After everything was done, my whole family noticed that the redness of my inflamed acne had lessened and that my overall skin texture looked more even. I'm looking forward to seeing how it works with regular use. The kit was pricey but I have a feeling it'll pay off. I've been really happy with every experience I've had at Janegee. I can't always afford the items in the shop, but I always get the best customer service regardless of whether I'm just browsing or buying. I also know that if I do purchase something, it's going to be worth it because of the quality. I have experienced nails naturally - I got a manicure for a wedding and although I thought the woman working on my nails could have been a little nicer to me, her work was phenomenal. I was happy to know that they didn't do cuticle cutting, and the products they use are natural and smell great. Everyone else was so kind and friendly. I have mature skin and needed some product to help it look as good as possible. I wore a lot of makeup also. I started using janegee products and my skin has never looked better. I had a really great experience at Jane Gee. I went there about a month ago and bought a number of her products, which have no chemicals at all in them. That's a really tough thing to find. I bought the vitamin cream (it's like a daily face cream), the skin cleanser and eye makeup remover (if you like Lancôme eye makeup remover but want it all natural this is the product for you). Jane was in the store and walked me through the products. She started the business from scratch so she's really enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Also, try the soaps, they are amazing! I bought the Shea Butter and the Lavendar ones. Yesterday I came back for more of those for gifts for friends and also for another of a balm that's called Sweet Stick. It is my favorite product at the store - for lips, cuticles, wherever I have a dry spot. While I was there I tried this product called Elixir #1. It's an investment so I wanted to try it out before buying but today the puffiness that is always on my upper cheeks is gone. It looks like I got a week of good sleep! So I'll be back to buy it. I was really surprised to see the previous negative review because I had a great experience both times I've gone to Jane Gee. Beautiful store filled with amazing things. I love their skin care line- I use the cleansing milk, vitamin cream and rosewater religiously. Jane uses ONLY THE BEST to make everything and is wonderfully knowledgeable. In addition to their skin care, there is a great variety of clothing, shoes and other gifts that are worth looking at. Jane was there and did my eyebrows and noticed my skin and put a product on that I was nervous about because this has happen to me before and had only made my break out worse. I met Jane about 12 years ago when she first opened her shop. I went in recently because my toe nails were dry and brittle. I started using the oil Shannon recommended and my nails look fantastic after 2 months! I had my first facial with Shannon in December and I feel like a brand new woman.
