My first visit here was very pleasant. I like these old fashioned type of settings - it makes me feel like I've gone back in time! From the cabin-like surroundings to the welcoming hearth; it sounds strange, but it feels like you're "at home." The food was fantastic and they are generous with the portions. We enjoyed the environment and the service was great. We felt bad having to tell the waiter we needed an extra minute a couple times, but everything on the menu sounded great (plus we were very hungry). I ended up getting the Wednesday special, the California omelette I believe and my fiancé got the half order of biscuits and gravy with a cinnamon roll on the side, as well as a peach tea which she said was some of the best peach tea she's had. Everything was what we wanted from a breakfast meal. The salsa and sourdough complimented the omelette and hash browns so well. This place is so good. I have only bin going here a couple of times but I will definitely continue going. Everything so far I have tried has been really good. My favorite thing is the Cobb salad the ranch dressing is the best. My husband had the stuffed French toast and my children had the cinnamon roll French toast they were both delicious. The portions are absolutely humongous. It's so nice that they're still cute little places like this we love going here thank you so much. The staff is wonderful very attentive. We were on the way to Viejas Casino and wanted to eat before we got to the casino, cuz we weren't feelin' the buffet today. So, we searched for places nearby and came across this place. It's definitely a place to check out! We got enticed by all the pics. The inside look cool. It has log cabin feel to it. It was full inside, so we sat outside. It was a nice warm day and it was less crowded outside, anyways. I got the eggs benedict country style. If you're not too hungry, you could actually split this plate! Got the hash brown with it and it is like the heartiest one I've had yet. It's a little thicker than I'm used to. It was like crispy outside and like potatoes au gratin on the inside. Looked like a potato pancake. It was good! Hubby got the pork chops and eggs. I liked how the pork chop was not too thick. Simply prepared and was quite tasty! He got the hash brown with it also. Drove up to Alpine just to have a relaxed nice breakfast and take a break from the city life. Wait time was about 10-15 minutes I was arriving towards the end of a rush. I was greeted by nice 2 lovely hostesses Taylor was the one who took my name down and within 5 minutes called me and walked me to a table inside (she asks if you would prefer inside or outside preferences) The host working with Taylor was also very sweet and they are both extremely helpful hardworking and warm hearted. My server also Taeylor comes by and I asked him for help with recommendations, they have a big menu so he helped me pick what I wanted. Food was delicious and service was great. The establishment is very clean, friendly and a refreshing spot for a visit with your family, a date or come as 1 and enjoy the gems of staff here. read more

I'm a city gal, and my family of 5 was looking to escape the crowds of our beach town on this busy holiday weekend and stumbled upon Janet's.... We had originally planned on going to the joint Nextdoor because we are fragile city folk and our GPS suggested it but Janet's just seemed so much more welcoming. I'll just say it, the portions are huge. We did not expect to be served two whole plates each. Like I said, we are city folk who are used to a half slice of avocado toast costing like fifteen bucks... Did I expect my "crepes with fruit" special to be actual pancake sized crepes with fruit and whipped cream, and 3 different types of syrup? No. But did I enjoy the f*ck out of it? Yes, I did. Husband got the chicken fried steak and eggs with biscuits and gravy, or something. It was insanely huge. Like ridiculous. Like too much for a human to consume in one sitting, but he handled it like a champ. Kids ordered off the kids menu, and as you can imagine, the portions are huge as well. Even my toddler who eats nothing but French fries ordered just french fries and got a gigantic, Red Robin, bottomless fries sized order. So basically if you're someone used to eating rabbit food that costs as much as your car payment, this place might be a bit shocking, but the food is solid. I am not used to putting that amount of food away in a single sitting but I think I did okay. I did have to take a quick nap afterwards. Taking one star off because I don't know if it was because we weren't regulars or if it was because we had kids or what but my initial feeling walking in with 3 (very well behaved) kids, was that we weren't welcomed. A lot of servers, and older folks asking my kids to get out of their way (when there wasn't much space to begin with). I've worked as a sever in high volume diners such as this, and I just felt like the attitude from some of the patrons and also staff was offputting... but once again, we're city folk, enjoying some good Alpine country food for once, so excuse my little crotch goblins who made exactly five, high octave noises and disturbed your peace for a few minutes. We spent over $100 on lunch and tipped 20%. read more

I LOVE JANETS This time I ordered from their Sunday special menu. We had 4 meals and the total was only $50 which is really good in my opinion. The portions are also huge! I got the biscuits and gravy and I can't wait to have it again. The decor is super woodsy and homey and I love that. The staff was really attentive and friendly. Every single time we are in Alpine, we come to Janet's. The parking is always full, and that's very telling. We love it. A country vibe and everyone is funny and friendly. They are handling the COVID guidelines well, and have expanded their outdoor seating to keep everyone safe and healthy. Beautiful scenery out back too. The food is really good and the portions are enormous. Everything tastes like home. The biscuits and gravy plate is big enough for four, but it's so good, you will want to eat it all by yourself. Don't, there's so much more to try. Omelets, ham steak, eggs Benedict, fluffy pancakes, mimosas!! Did I say mimosas? They are also a generous size. The salads are great too, fresh, cool, and crisp. I've been coming to Janet's cafe for a long time. The one in Alpine and the one in El Cajon are amazing. In my opinion it's the best place for breakfast in Alpine I get the Denver omelette with potatoes and an order of biscuits and gravy with and iced tea to drink. The food comes out fast and hot and the taste is incredible. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable they can explain the whole menu to you. I'd highly recommend it. It has amazing ambiance it truly feels like a Montana cafe. There is a nice area Behind the restaurant to stroll when you're done. read more

We were heading past Alpine and based on the Yelp reviews we decided to stop at Janet's. I must admit that we were a bit skeptical when we pulled into the parking lot, but by the time we were finished with our breakfast, we were sold. Here is what we noted: - First of all, parking was tough...there aren't a lot of spots in the adjacent parking lot and street parking was full, so we had to park illegally in the lot of a nearby business. - They are currently seating inside and outside...we wanted outdoor seating due to COVID-19 and felt very safe/distanced once seated. - It's a pretty popular place, so you might need to wait. We were there about 9:30am on a Saturday morning. - The menu looks pretty ordinary, i.e., boring, but there are a lot of options. - Our skepticism disappeared once we got our food. The homemade muffins are the bomb...OMG, I got the cranberry one and only wish I could have tried multiple flavors. Very light, great crumb top! - Our meals were excellent...my wife got the Spinach omelet, which she said was cooked perfectly. The egg part was almost like a scramble, but not overdone at all, and it was folded over and filled with lots of cheese. I got the corned beef hash, which was great, two eggs, and fruit on the side (another option instead of other potatoes). - Service was attentive...both a server and a runner, who kept our water filled, etc. Bottom line: If you're not sure about Janet's, give it a try...like us, I suspect you'll be pleasantly surprised! read more

Been here twice. Most recently during late June 2020 during Covid-19. Covid visit: -face masks were required while walking to and from table however masks can come off while seated. So people weren't wearing a mask while walking which is annoying but not illegal I guess. I got the half tuna sandwiches and half Greek salad- both were awesome. I got potato salad which was sweet so not my favorite, but the pickles were good. Just had dinner here again tonight. My wife and my omelettes with home fries were great as usual (love all day breakfast here!) and my son loved his bleu cheese avocado burger with onion rings. Bucket of bread right after we sat down -- always a treat. Wow they know their desserts!!! Pick a pie any pie...oh your vegan, great! They have edible dessert for you too. Walking in is a counter filled with homemade pies and cakes and cookies. We had their carrot cake and coconut cream pie. The coconut cream pie was my favorite, light and dense all at once with shredded coconut throughout the cream and topping. Perfect crispness of crust. A true cheers to my dad (as this is his favorite kind of pie). The carrot cake, good but not my favorite, slightly on the dryer side and the frosting was very sweet. OH! And we had their chocolate cookie - the thing was still soft eating it 2 days later. Delicious! read more
