My daughter and I stopped at Jan's to look for a prom dress after several unsuccessful trips to the mall and a local bridal store. The big box stores offer no dress size larger than a size 10; and the dress selection was minimal. The bridal shop was crowded and overwhelming, not a good experience. At Jan's we were greeted nicely at the door and directed back to the prom dresses. We were asked for the size dress we thought we needed and then immediately introduced to Donna, our sales associate. Donna suggested we shop for a size larger than we were looking--and she was correct. We were then shown the largest selection of dresses in size and color for full-figured girls that we have ever seen. It was wonderful to have such choices for a bigger young woman after having been so discouraged. After picking out three of our favorite dresses to start we were taken to the dressing room area. The dressing area was crowded-but what would one expect, it's prom gown season! Though very busy, the dressing area was managed like clockwork. I've never seen so many staff and sales associates attending to clients, while moving literally hundreds of dresses in, out, and back to the racks. Donna was excellent with my daughter; she offered direction and opinion that a teenager doesn't want to hear from her mother! My daughter tried on several dresses and found one the she loved at a great price. We had a great experience at Jan's and will be back for all of our future formal dress needs. read more

THANK YOU, JAN'S! I had tried a few other prom dress stores before going to Jan's. The dresses at the other shops were okay, but there wasn't anything there that I felt really flattered my body-type and made me feel confident. I went to Jan's on March 6th. I felt bad because I didn't make an appointment; it was so busy that day, but the lady who greeted me said that it was no problem and brought me right to the dresses that were my size. I picked three dresses that I wanted to try on and was then assisted by a lady by the name of Stacy who helped me find one of the most beautiful and unique dresses that I have ever seen. Her humor and kindness made any anxiety I had about finding that perfect dress go away. Her and a few other girls that worked there were being honest about each of the dresses that I tried on, which I truly appreciated. When I tried on my dream dress and walked out of the changing stall, their smiles and compliments made me know for sure that it was the one. I felt confident in it. That's the key. You can have the most beautiful dress in the world, but if you're not confident in it, then the beauty won't mean a thing. Jan's was awful, very poor customer service, certain ladies are very rude, and act like they are so high and mighty when they are actually quite tacky! You feel very rushed, and you have to wear gloves to try on the dresses, which is just very annoying. You cannot take photos in the dresses and they will bluntly tell you "No Pictures," overall the experience was awful, DO NOT GO HERE! You will literally just be so annoyed and just want to say you know what and walk the hell out. read more

Today I was there with my daughter for the first time looking for a senior prom gown. The first young lady to help us was very polite- and since it was not too busy, instructed us not to worry- pull some gowns and try them on. We were appalled by all the signs instructing patrons what not to do, but tried to think positively. We took in 2 gowns. Waited awhile at the entrance of the dressing room and then went in. There were only 2 other girls trying on dresses. I even spoke to another consultant while my daughter was trying on a dress and she was polite as well. Finally when my daughter put her 2nd dress on I asked her to step out to see it, and a 3rd consultant stepped over and asked if we were being helped. I believe her name was Adrianne? I told her yes- 2 others had spoken with us. But she said- "no I mean in here". She then went on to instruct me that that my daughter had to wear black gloves so as not to snag the gown, and did we only have 3 gowns, and she should be helping her in and out of it, not me. Note no other girls in the dressing room were wearing gloves while trying on a gown. I reminded her the 2 other consultants had not instructed us to wear gloves etc. She then proceeded to tell me that while she didn't think I was lying, "that is how we do it here". Silly me, I thought if I were going to spend $630 on a gown, I should be treated with courtesy and respect. I would never recommend Jan's. Treating people so poorly is not the way to do business. It was simply my daughter and I on a Monday afternoon. It wasn't crowded. No groups. No bunches of girls. No cameras. No expectations other than being treated pleasantly and as a customer should be. DON'T GO IF YOU ARE PETITE!!! I am 5'2". Business card and website state they have all sizes, even petites. Don't believe it and don't go if you are petite. They will tell you that formal dress manufacturers don't make petite sizes, and they have a fantastic alterations department. After ordering a $575 dress in a regular size, I came in to see how much the alterations would cost as I was foolish enough to order the regular size. The cost to alter the dress was going to be $345 and the seamstress said she was cutting me a deal on the alterations! The shoulders had to be raised, the bust and waist had to be taken in, the sleeves needed to be narrowed, and it needed to be hemmed. I said they ordered the wrong size (12 instead of 10), but the owner scoffed at that suggestion and then avoided me like the plague the rest of the time I was in the store. I could tell the store did not want to deal with me at this point and kept suggesting that I get it altered near where I lived. Well I have a mother of the bride dress that it going up for sale on Ebay, and a PETITE dress on order from another dress shop that will be in before April. Stay far far away from this store if you are petite. read more

Good customer service should be the foundation of running any type of business. Perhaps Jan's management feels that this isn't something they need to be bothered with because high school girls in the surrounding area believe that this is the only place to buy a prom dress. I'm writing this review not only because I am absolutely disgusted by how my 18 year old was treated by their sales associate, Roxanne, but to ask potential customers if they really want to support a store that treats customers with complete disrespect. My daughter and her friend, who was a previous customer visited Jan's to look at Sr. Prom dresses. Roxanne told my 18 year old daughter that she could only try on 2 dresses because her parent wasn't there. Really? The store wasn't busy. Did she not want to waste her time? When has anyone gone into a store and told they can only try on 2 garments? Her friend was anxious even before going in because her experience was so bad when she bought a prom dress there the year before. My daughter was made to feel ugly because she needed a bigger size to accommodate her chest size. She was practically in tears afterwards. My daughter was so excited to try on prom dresses and looking forward to the big day and this experience stole that from her and made her feel bad about herself. Shame on Roxanne and shame on management for promoting this behavior, which is evident by the other negative reviews about this store. When you are going to spend several hundred to thousands of dollars you should be treated with respect and appreciation. There are other options out there moms so please consider whether you want to support a store that treats their customers and young girls so poorly while making the owners wealthy with their ridiculously marked up dresses. I stumbled across Jan's Boutique one day after driving home from work and decided to stop in. The window caught my eye and I was looking for a cocktail dress to wear to my friends wedding. I had been looking for a while and couldn't find anything that was unique. Every dress I came across was just so typical and I wanted to wear a dress that was different that I had never seen before. I was greeted by a young sales girl, who seemed to know her stuff about gowns and dresses. I found the perfect dress. It was so different and I had never seen anything like it before. The bead work was just beautiful and I fell in love with this dress. I had to have it! The price was a bit high, but I knew this going into the store; after all it is a boutique. I talked at length to a salesperson and ordered a size 4 dress. The dress was not any where near the measurements they gave me. It was way to big and has heavily crystals and can not be altered because of crystals. When i called to return they said they had a no return policy. This was never ever mentioned in the phone call. First, I would like to say, "I have tried many other Boutiques". Jans by far had the widest selection of short, mid-length, and beautiful gowns to choose from. Unbelievable colors, styles, designers. I was concerned about the "time limit" ie; being rushed. However, after working with our sales associate she was able to calm my nerves. At first I worried that she wanted me to choose "different" types of gowns for my Sr. prom. I had a "theme" in mind, as well as a price range that I thought was "me". Again, she was spot on. I of course did try on different types (out of my normal comfort zone)of gowns. Finally, a gown that I would not have normaly tried on was the one I purchased. I found a stunning one shoulder, emearald green, just gorgeous gown. I should say, "the gown chose me". I am so excited to submit a photo to Jan's Best Dressed Contest. SCAM! SCAM! SCAM! DO NOT BUY A DRESS ON LINE FROM JANS!!!! I ordered a specific dress. They said they had it in stock. They sent me the complete wrong dress. And, now they wont take it back. Who does that? They are hiding behind their bogus no return policy. This was an instock item. Not a special order. They are a multi million dollar. co. what is it to them. keep a customer happy. They have now destroyed a 17 year old girl who cant go to the prom.She has been crying every night. Because there is no time to get another dress, and have it altered in 4 days. After receiving AWFUL customer service at Brides By Demetrios Cherry Hill Mall, my step-mother and I googled wedding boutiques and stores. Jan's was first to appear, because of its proximity to our location, so we decided to give it a try. As soon as we entered the store we were greeted by Marie...she introduced herself, asked how could she be of service and proceeded to assist us. We were looking for Mother-of-the-Bride dress and a wedding gown for me. She told me they did not really carry the gown I was looking for but had a GREAT selection of dresses, suits etc for my step-mom. She listened to the style of dress we were looking for but also gave her opinion on what would look great on her. She pulled about 5 dresses (short and long) and gave top notch customer service the ENTIRE TIME!!! She was very genuine with her advise, caring and honest. My wedding is less than 3 months away and we were pushing it...especially myself, for time. My step-mom found a gorgeous dress, that will arrive on time, and we were both pleased. While wrapping up the sale, scheduling alterations and saying our good-byes; Marie tried to go in the back to see if she could help find me a dress ONE MORE TIME!!! But to no avail, she had nothing for me. Marie was very concerned with me not having my wedding dress and was very disappointed to hear about our horrible encounter from a previous store, so she was determined to help. She referred me to 3 boutiques in the area, gave me the managers name and suggested we pay them a visit. Her store of choice was Kay Bridal in Maple Shade Township NJ with manager Jennifer. We headed right there....and wouldn't you know it, I FOUND MY DRESS and the owner JENNIFER took great care of me. You do not find much customer service these days....and definitely not as AWESOME as Marie and the few associates at Jan's we had the pleasure of watching or speaking with. It was a wonderful experience and a GREAT turn of events from the horrible start to our day. I RECOMMEND Jan's Boutique to anyone looking for a Mother-of-the-Bride dress...or just dress in general. Let me start by saying I am plus sized so finding a store to fit in dresses is hard. That said, this store has the best selection of dresses around and the worst customer service. I needed a Silver or Grey Dress for my anniversary, I wanted it under $500.00. I had a lot to choose from in this shop, I went to tons of stores and they did have the best selection. The sales person brought me a dress to try that was over $700.00, ok I didn't have to buy it ,but I did. It was in black but they told me in came in Slate, my husband and I assumed slate was dark gray, I could live with that. Their slate was dark blue, I found this out 2 weeks before my Silver anniversary, what was I going to do, it was too late. What pissed me off was how Nasty the owner was about it. She insisted the sales person must have shown us the color, she did not. She insisted Slate is always blue, I'm sorry, it is not. Should we have asked to see it, yes. But they knew I needed Silver or Gray, I told them over and over again. She was the nastiest owner I have ever met. I work retail and I know I would be fired for treating a customer like this. They also knew I wanted under $500.00, but she showed me a dress at $700.00. Was it amazing , yes it was. So I choose a dress over 700.00, but they also ordered a size above my size and they fit it to your body. They should warn you that it will cost close to $300.00 to alter it. If it were my store I would have Given me the alterations for free because, They made an error with the color, if I had seen the color I would have picked a different dress. Did she do that, nope. So I did get a beautifully fit dress for close to $900.00 but it left a bitter taste in my mouth. It was an amazing dress but this woman does not know how to treat a customer. So buyer beware, they do have a great selection BUT there are NO refunds, and alterations will cost you a fortune. The alterations and sales people are fine. Terrible experience. My mother and sister both bought their dresses at Jan's for my wedding. While our initial sales appointment was fine, other than rushed. The alterations are a nightmare. They both had about 3-4 inches taken off the bottoms of their dresses and then some tightening of the tops. Nothing too major. The alterations were almost as much as the dresses, and you have to pay for all the alterations UP FRONT, IN FULL. I purchased my dress at another store and you do not pay until the dress is done & fits properly! My sister is now moving to another state and cannot make her scheduled 2nd fitting. We tried changing her appointment and the seamstress is not in on days we can get there and Jan's stated they do not "like" to have other seamstresses take the appointments. We could "take the dress but they would not be liable if it didn't fit" Unreal. No customer service what so ever! Extremely unprofessional read more

I bought a dress here for a special occasion that I was unable to attend. I literally had my dress sitting in my closet covered for a little over 3 weeks with tags still on it. I tried to return thinking it hasn't been worn & wouldn't have an issue. Wrong!! Only store credit which she acted like she was doing me a favor. I think it was Jan that I spoke with who was completely rude. My cousin also bought a dress there & was unable to return it (never worn) just to get a larger size & was denied. Spoke to another friend who said she knew someone who didn't try a prom dress with gloves on & the sales girl said she had to buy it bc no gloves were worn. So unless your absolutely positively sure of your purchase don't plan on returning the dress & getting your money back!!! Customer service is so very important!!! I am in the process of getting a dress for my daughters wedding. I have been to a few shops and this is the worst experience I have ever had. When we arrived no one said anything to us so we started to walk in. Someone chased me to scold me that I didn't sign in. Then I was told everyone was busy so I needed to wait but could look. Which wasn't a problem. We grabbed a few dresses and after 25 minutes someone came over who proceeded to tell me dresses she thinks I should try on rather than the ones I wanted to. I get she does this all day but wouldn't you let the customer at least try the dresses on. Then a timer started once I went into the dressing room. To say the black gloves are weird is an understatement. Then the sales lady comes in the dressing room with me when I changed. Each dress could be worn for about one minute and no pictures unless I said it was a "contender"??? Aren't they all contenders? Then at 5:30'she said your done! Store is closing. I mentioned that I called and they said 6 and the website said 6. She said that is wrong. But could I come back tomorrow to try on more? No I live an hour away. I will buy the dress from a shop that isn't rude and insulting. And in top of that, the dress I liked was listed there for $680 and on the manufacturers site it is recommended for $560. So at another shop they sold it for $530. Why would you pay more than what you can order it from the manufacturer or get down the road? Awful read more

After visiting about 10 dress shops for Prom, I had almost given up hope of finding a dress. Jan's is about an hour from where I live, but it was worth a try. We didn't make an appointment (which I will definitely do next time after seeing how busy they are) and the store was busy, but someone greeted us right away and they didn't make us feel bad about not having made an appointment (a few dress shops wouldn't let us shop until we did so). My sales associate, Donna, greeted us in less than two minutes and helped me choose three dresses to start. Donna made me feel comfortable as she helped me change from dress to dress. After the second dress, Donna overheard me talking to my Aunt about wanting a dress in another color. She found the dress in the color I wanted and patiently assisted while I tried on four more dresses. I ended up purchasing the first dress I tried on and I love it! Donna let me spend a few minutes in the dress to make sure I was comfortable and waited patiently while I called my Mom and Grandmom to get their approval. After visiting so many boutiques and after having such a challenging time finding a dress, the great dress selections and personalized service at Jan's kept me from skipping my Junior Prom altogether. I can't wait to return next year for my Senior Prom dress! Oh, and even though my school is an hour away, they registered my dress for my prom so that no one else can purchase it there for the same event. I took my daughter to buy a prom dress on a Saturday afternoon and we found what we thought was the perfect dress. We wanted to purchase the dress even though it was a tiny bit snug (I knew a professional seamstress would be able to let it out 1/8 of an inch) but the sales associate told us we would have to come back when the seamtress was in. When I asked for the model number of the dress so that I could check back to make sure it was still in stock she told me that could not give that information. I called Monday morning and gave the description to the gentleman that answered and he confirmed that the dress was still there. I purchased the dress over the phone after the sales associate took my credit card information and charged my card. Not 10 minutes later the associate called me back to tell me that the dress had been sold and that the other customer had already walked out with it. To say that I found the first sales associate was unprofessional in her demeanor and attidtude toward us is stating it mildly and the second associate could not have possibly pulled the dress to place it "for pick up" for me since someone else purchased it at the same time. I will NEVER patronize Jan's nor do I encourage any one to buy there. I give this "boutique" two thumbs down!! read more

I am not quite sure to begin. This was the most horrendous place I have ever been to. From the staff all the way up to the owner everyone was unhelpful, extremely rude, and very condescending. I would tell anyone who even considers shopping here to RUN as far away as possible. No one there knew there own inventory. I kept asking for certain designers, and the sales lady said they don't carry the brand, meanwhile I saw it on the rack and told the sales person and she said "oh this must be new, I didn't know we sold this". The problem here is there is no one that was well trained and the owner surely proved that they don't know how to run a business. I told the sales help I wanted to spend a certain amount of money, and she showed me NOTHING in that price range. As a owner of a company usually you do everything in your power to keep your clients/customers happy. This was certainly something that was lacking in this store. I will never return to this store, as I am upset to have even wasted my time driving over an hour to get here. read more

This place is terrible. My girlfriend ordered a dress online for a dance coming up since they don't have any if the dresses in stock that are online and when she got it from the store it was an entire size larger than it was supposed to be which is their fault since we came in and got measured before they ordered the dress. They also state that "We'll take your measurements and guarantee to order you the right size or we'll order you another dress! We special order dresses everyday and never order the wrong size" Well this is clearly wrong and so my girlfriend went in today to ask them for a smaller size or to alter the dress since THEY made the mistake. I was informed that when she told them the situation a man with lighter hair behind the counter and a lady with white hair and bright red lipstick refused to pay for the alterations and told her to never come back to the store ever again. They also accused her of lying about coming in to get the measurements for the dress. I sincerely hope those two employees get fired and Jans goes out of business read more

Wow, what a crazy place! I was interested in a certain dress from a certain BRIDESMAID line and on the designer's web site it says Jan's carried the line. I call the store and they said they have the particular dress I'm looking for and to come in but they don't take appointments on Saturdays. I also browsed the website a bit where they advertise BRIDESMAID dresses and I was looking forward to their extensive selection. I walk in on a Saturday with two of my bridesmaids and a woman asks if we need help and she said "We don't carry bridesmaid dreses". I was very confused and thought maybe I was in the wrong store since they advertise on their website that they do have them plus the gentleman I spoke with told me they had a particular style. I explain this to her and she was very rude and told me that line was very expensive and usually only 1 or 2 bridesmaids could afford it and since i have a large bridal party they wouldn't all be able to afford it. This was hysterical to me because I felt like I was in "Pretty Woman". I don't know what kind of sales techniques these people employ but I was ready to spend close to $5000 in there and they told me my friends couldn't afford it! It was actually laughable! Anyway, so I said can you just show me the style number and she said only if I knew what size their sample was because they cut the designer labels out and sew Jan's ones in. Not sure how I would know what size their inventory was but then she told me the dress was sold and she yelled at my friend for making a face. She said they might be able to offer me a discount since I have 11 bridesmaids so we went up to the counter where a male employee was quite nasty to me when I told him another store had quoted me (because I guess it was my fault??). I'm really not sure what kind of show they were running in there but to tell people what they can and cannot afford when 11 girls were ready to spend $400 a piece is pretty bad business if you ask me! Since New Jersey has no shortage of special occasion dress shops, this is a store that I would avoid. To begin with, the website is used to convey the impression that the store has a wide selection of dresses and borders on deceptive, as the store actually stocks a fraction of the dresses and styles depicted on the web site. I visited the store in August of 2012 to shop for a dress for my son's wedding in November. I tried on a few dresses and ended up ordering a simple dress with a matching jacket. When I was measured for size, I was advised to order one size up. When I received the dress, the jacket was so big that it had to be taken apart and re-done at a substantial expense and only realized later that other, more competent shops would have ordered a smaller size jacket. I was charged the sum of $25.00 for mailing. An $800.00 dress arrived protected by nothing more than a plastic bag of the type one gets from the dry cleaner. At best, this store deserved a grade of "C." There are much better choices out there. read more

I dread shopping for a gown for a dressy event. I'm more of a TJ Maxx kind of shopper. Went to Jan's just to explore. Really thought I was just going to get oriented as to what was out there. Saleswoman was very helpful and after picking out a few gowns to try on, the first one was fantastic. All the customers trying on clothing agreed that the first gown was "IT". I came in for my fitting and Brenda was handling the alterations. She is a delightful fashionista and she gave me advice on everything from jewelry to shoes to undergarments. She was absolutely right about everything. She promised me, after second fitting, that I would be very comfortable all night and that nothing on the dress or beneath the dress would "move". Given the fact that I was dressed up for a black tie event, I couldn't have been more comfortable and the alterations made the gown fit perfectly. I saw others at the event struggling with their outfits and I realized just how important the alterations are. read more

I live in Maryland but travelled to NJ to buy a dress for my son's wedding. I was surprised by the way Jan's runs there store, very regimented and intimidating. I tried on many dresses and when I told the salesperson that I wanted to try a few on a second time to help make a decision, I was told that my 60 minutes were up for using the dressing room, and only if I planned to buy something in the end could I try on dresses a second time. Keep in mind, the store wasn't crowded! After trying on the dresses and making a decision they pushed me to order a smaller size than I was comfortable buying. They told me that the brand I was buying runs big so I needed a smaller size. Once I paid for the dress they told me that it would take about 3 months to get. I was very concerned about the timing and the size. The dress actually came in after 3 weeks but the size is as I expected, too small. Now I need to go on a diet and lose about 10 pounds before the wedding. Won't be so easy for me to do that. I am not that heavy to start with. I didn't appreciate the sales help or attitude of the employees and would not recommend the store, despite the large volume of dresses to chose from. read more

I was looking for a Mother of the Groom dress that was different and not like the usual older styles. I went to a local bridal store in my area and before my appointment I sent a list of gowns that I liked. When I got to the appointment, I asked the assistant if she had any of the dresses on my list. She said, 'Honey, most of the items on the list are prom dresses and you don't have the body for them'. Needless to say, the appointment was very disappointing. I wasn't happy with the selection in my size (18/20) so my daughter looked in the 12/14 section so that I could just slip on the dresses to see if I liked the style. I have slender hips and knew that I could just slip them on without zipping. Well, the assistant almost refused me to do that. I did anyway and didn't have a problem with any of them. Well, I didn't find anything that I liked and was not really interested in buying a dress at that store. Then I was set on finding one particular gown and that's how I came across Jan's. I sent an email and received a prompt reply the next morning. I called and was told that they couldn't get that dress because it was a 2012 issue. Since they advertised a huge selection, I went there. I got immediate help without an appointment and was able to try on over 20 dresses. I narrowed it down to 3 and then picked my final selection with the help of my assistant Tracy and my daughter within an hour. I was happy that I traveled over 60 miles to this store because of the selection that they had. The only feedback that I would like to give to the store is that in the larger styles, 16 - 24 that I looked through, I was disappointed that most of the colors available were dark. But you did have a big selection to pick from and was very happy with my choice. Thanks again! read more

I purchased a dress in April for my sons wedding in September at the store. When I went to pay, without mentioning it prior to this point, they charged me a $35 fee because they had to order the dress. This was never mentioned when I tried on the dresses and had finally decided on this one, until I was to the point of paying for it! So $35 was added to an already probably too expensive dress! The dress won't be in until early August but I figured I would get the navy shoes and have them for when I go for alterations, since I will be cutting it kind of close. I ordered a few pair of different shoes in navy at different websites online but when I got them, I realized there are a lot of different shades of navy, believe it or not. I called Jan's thinking they would be able to send me a color swatch so I could decide which shoe color would go best, but apparently that is an impossible request! I don't get it. I would think a place specializing in dresses should be able to obtain a color swatch for a dress someone is purchasing from them! Thumbs down to this place! read more

I can't say enough good things about Jan's Boutique! After having some not-so-wonderful experiences at shopping for mother-of-the-bride and mother-of-the-groom dresses at some shops near us, we decided to take the trip to Jan"s. We were both getting discouraged that we were not going to fine the "perfect" dress for either of us. Well, that couldn't be farther from the truth! Not only did we each find that perfect dress for each of us, we actually had a great time doing it. Our salesgirl, Linda, was terrific! She knew her stock and soon knew exactly what I was looking for. She pulled the dress that turned out to be my choice! She was patient and so helpful. We even selected accessories to go with our dresses. In fact, the whole staff, including Jan herself, was so great, friendly and helpful, we ended up shopping for sportswear as well and loved so many things! As a very picky senior like all others, I went out with the need to find my perfect prom dress. I have looked EVERYWHERE. My mom and I even drove out hours away to a store that was ultimately closed! However, luckily I was able to go to Jan's. Not only do they have selections varying from sizes 0-32, the entire store is extremely organized. Their dresses are placed according to color which makes the process much easier. What amazed me the most was the cleanliness! This is the only store I have ever been to wear they give you gloves when trying on the dress. The store itself also gives the customers a fun, bright, and exciting feeling, as shopping for a dress should be. I am so thankful I found my perfect senior prom dress, especially with the help of Sharon! Sharon was patient, and really listened to the type of dresses I was looking for. She did not push me to try on anything I didn't like, like many other stores' sales associates do, and she was very considerate throughout the whole time! My experience at Jan's was amazing, and I recommend this store to all of my friends, looking for any type of extravagant dress. read more

I read all the reviews and still decided to give Jan's a try for my 13 year old daughter. For our first trip we had a wonderful experience with Maria May. She wrote down my daughters 3 top dresses and we left wanting to think it over and try more dresses. 1 week later I called Jans asked them if I could put a deposit down and hold the dress. They told me my only choice was to buy it so I did. Well my daughter and I today went to pick it up: thank GOD we tried it on before we left the store. It did not fit.... By 3". Not sure what happened hmmmm..... But my daughter certainly did not gain that much weight to go from a 4 to a 6 in 3 1/2 weeks. In fact she hadn't gained 1lb. Well Jan or her co workers would not budge. They told me my only option was to either take that dress or repurchase another one whether my daughter liked it or not. Not only that, I asked about alterations and they would not even discount it for me. I could not get a refund. This dress was not taken out of the store, it is Feb. so the beautiful dress has quite a bit of time to sell. The women working with me was terribly rude, I asked for another associate like Maria May but she refused and told me she was it. She grabbed my dress that I purchased out of my hands. She was horrible as was Jan. Her place was booming, she is not a small business by any means, you'd think they would care enough to have a 13 year old girl love her dress. No this was not the case. When we got upstairs thank goodness Maria May was up there and not only was sweet but also calmed my daughter down who was upset by how this store treated us. We wound up although getting s beautiful dress...settling for something she is not in love with. So sad that this is how women do business with each other. Not only this.... My beautiful daughter got in my car... Cried and said she felt fat because the women asked her several times if she gained weight. Nice job Jan's never will I refer to you. read more

I have never been so disappointed with customer service before in my life. When you walk in, you are greeted by someone at the door and they instantly start interrogating you based on whether or not you are going to buy a dress there. If they get the slightest hint that you will not be buying a dress, they pay you no mind. They told me I was limited to 3 dresses to try on. After trying on the third dress, they began pressuring me to buy a dress that I clearly did not like. They made me feel like I had no other choice than to buy the dress from them. After purchasing this dress(not wanting to), I attempted to call and ask if there was any way to exchange a dress for a dress that was almost triple the amount of money. They rudely refused and had a nasty attitude on the phone. I understand a return policy but it was their high pressure sales tactics that caused me to buy a dress I did not want. Would not recommend to anyone! read more

I can honestly say my last purchase was the worst experience I ever had there. I know now why I didn't use thier seamstress. I bought a dress off the rack it was suggested that I remove the sleeves (thought it was a good idea NOT) changed the shape of the dress and raised to high. (If my boobs were In my neck it would fit much better ). Ask to make sure all the beading was stitched on so they wouldn't fall off. That wasn't done. When I picked up my dress no one seam to care how unhappy I was. The seamstress took it back to her shop to fix it. Just tried it on again for my event Sunday. Should have had the boob lift and maybe it would fit better. Not one manager or my sales girl greeted me when I went to pick it up. Not one person asked how it was. They seamed to not care how upset I was when I left the store with the dress that was not fitted correctly. Very upsetting by this experience. I hope I can find another dress shop in the future. I don't think I could ever go back after this last experience. read more

Beware! Don't shop here. Terrible customer service. They ordered a dress for my mom telling her the size they would order would fit they would just have to hem it. All kinds of alternations needed to be done. She wanted to return it and offered to buy another dress even if it costs more, but there was no budging. Jan is rude and made my mom feel like she was crazy because she didn't like the dress. My mom tried talking nicely to her but all she did was talk meanly to her and berated her for not liking the dress. Jan said to my mom that she was crazy and that she has never seen this before. You work in customer service for how long and have never once had an unhappy customer? She tried calling her after her visit to discuss the situation with her nicely, she told her she had to go that she had a customer. My mom told her she would leave a bad review and Jan said "that's not fair" and hung up on her. read more

My first time going to a dress shop ....like this. Honestly, out of the 50 people (helpers I guess) there, only three greeted me warmly. Trust and believe, if they think you are not going to buy a dress, they will treat you like a dog. They are probably thinking, "Why are they still here...wasting my time?", while you are trying on dresses. literally, we are walking out the door, and my mom says bye, silence, she repeats herself with "ladies" at the end of her sentence, and the guy says buy. There was no comment whatsoever form the 6 ladies at the front of the door. Wow. We'll, at least the girl that was helping me was nice. You could call them snobbish, ignorant,, and think too high of themselves. Now, a couple of good things, they had a VARIETY of dresses, if they have your size. While looking at the dresses, it was apparent that when they ordered dresses for plus size, they ordered a limited variety of ugliness. The Petite sizes were, of course, beautiful...but you know that's a regular, So that brings me to think that they only want certain people. Also, the prices are ridiculous, no wonder people are flying to buying wholesale dresses online. A YELLOW, SHORT, TOP BEADED dress, cost a whopping $230.00. That's crazy. This boutique is a study in contrasts. To begin with something positive, their range of dresses is wonderful - all colors, sizes, elegant to trashy - you name it, it's here. Our sales assistant, Marie, was efficient, professional, friendly and helpful, and we found a gown that was simply stunning. However -- beware -- alterations here are insanely expensive, and no estimate of the cost was provided beforehand. Put it this way: on a $650 gown, the alterations came to $300 --- really? REALLY? And this was after all the pinning had been done, etc., etc. Additionally, the sales staff, upon checkout, will indicate that - if you write a positive review on a site like Yelp (for instance), you are entitled to a $25 certificate/credit for accessories. What they failed to tell my daughter, however, is that this had to be used for their insanely overpriced costume jewelry --- she was not allowed to use it to get a few additional hairpins....two of which had been given to her AT NO COST as a result of our purchase. This is such poor customer service, and gave the distinct impression of a 'bait and switch' situation. The final insulting and cheap trick was that, upon purchase of the gown, we were given a $20 coupon to be used . . . as a token of their appreciation. When we tried to apply this to the alteration cost (remember the $300?), we were referred to the fine print which indicated that this could only be used between July and December. Come on, folks: if you want customers to return, then play fair and extend appreciation rather than just fake it. This definitely left a sour taste in our mouths.....so just go in with your eyes open. read more

Well we decided to get my daughter a grown up dress at Jan's for her 8th grade graduation. We were escorted to the young ladies section where they had a very poor selection. The sales lady picked out a very lovely dress but was way out of my price range. She told us this was the only dress in her size-8. We did try the dress on and it was of-course gorgeous but still out of my price range. I asked the sales lady if there were any other dresses in my daughters size and she said no. Well i decided that i would look a bit further on the racks to see if maybe i could find something which i easily did. i found several dresses in my price range in her size right away? I thought the sales lady said there were none but the expensive one? Anyhow my daughter tried the less expensive one on and it actually looked 10x better on her-the other did not fit well in the bust and needed alterations $$. Then the sales lady started to get an attitude with me and told me maybe i should looks for some shoes at Payless. I wanted to leave the store and not buy a thing after that but the dress was pretty and i did not want to disappoint my daughter so i did purchase the dress but i knew that i would find a way to let others know how you get treated if you do not spend top dollar$$. read more
