Regulars here. We were having issues with our water and fish dying, started buying water from here and haven't had a single issue since and the water is cheap. Fish are great. Bought an exotic fresh water fish for $30 and found out they sell for $140 online. Great prices, clean, friendly, and have a wide selection of plants. I love this place. The people are so helpful and friendly. I have multiple freshwater tanks and I have bought many different types of fish from Jan's. Koi, Dojo Loach, tiger/red tail catfish, high-fin sharks, Oscars and a pleco that have all done wonderful. This place takes great care of these fish and provide nothing but the best. Out of all the fish stores I have been to from Huntington, L.A. and Riverside they defiantly have the best fresh water and salt water I have seen. read more

Jan's is my go-to LFS. I love it here, and it's the only place I'll buy fish from. I have had three incidents where my fish do die after bringing them home (1 kuhli loach, 2 albino corycats), and I assume the fish were either sick upon purchase or adapting to a new tank brought on too much stress. Please note that they do not do refunds for the majority of their fish, especially the pricier ones. Make sure you look the fish over carefully before handing your card over, and if you're buying an expensive one, ask questions! I did buy a quarter sized black angel here for $7.99, and have had her for about half a year now. She's quadrupled in size and gets bigger every day. She's the star of my tank now, and is the friendliest fish I've ever seen. I've also stocked my tank with five kuhli loaches from them, two corycats (originally four), five harlequin rasboras, my black angel, and two penguin tetra. Their knowledge on fish can be a bit hit or miss, depending on who's working that day. The younger guy once tried giving me fish that looked nothing like kuhli loaches, but I think it's just a family store and he's not too interested in fish. Overall, their variety of fish is excellent. If there's a fish you'd like, you can always ask them when it'll be coming in stock. To the lady who bought community and aggressive fish and mixed them -- if you don't ask questions, you won't get answers! I think they assume that you know about fish and what you're doing with your tank. It's really not up to them to educate you on different fish types and what can and can't be mixed. If you aren't really sure how to stock your tank, or if you'll go over capacity, go to AqAdvisor and look! It will give you every warning you need to make educated decisions on your variety of fish. Props to the older gentleman that works there. He helped me figure out what was best to feed my kuhlis. Absolutely love the little guys, and I've had three of them (from Jan's) for over a year now. I have been here quite a few times. The staff are not really friendly. They all seem to have a chip on their shoulders, and not very engaging at all! The store and aquariums are kept quite clean. The tropical fish look healthy for the most part, however, the fancy goldfish not so much. It's quite depressing. They are a bit over priced than some other stores I have been too. read more

The staff are really kind and knowledgeable and take great care of their store. They feed their fish regularly and care for them with responsibility. The prices are reasonable for today's economy, and they carry a wide variety of unique freshwater and saltwater fish. The store is well lighted and the aquariums are really well decorated and meet the proper requirements for the well being of their fish. They also sell a wide variety of high quality live and dry food that are fairly priced. However, I have purchased quite a few ill fish that end up dying. But I can't yet blame the store for this, because the shipment may have just been bad. However I do sometimes get the impression that the company they buy the fish from are not the best. read more

I'm not sure if the store had just gotten a new shipment of fish in and is quarantining them in the front of the store with the other fish, but the last few times I have been there I have noticed a lot of dead fish in the tanks and fish that look unhealthy/sick and not of good quality. The people who work here are nice and have good service though. But I don't think I will be buying fish from here anytime soon. read more

i frequently visit different fish stores from montclair, west covina, azusa, chino to westminster, etc..and i have to say that although this fish store is a nice place and has nice fish it is TOO overpriced! not only that, the owners do not have knowledge on the breeds they carry in their own store!! If you're a new fish owner, you'll like it. but if you're an experienced owner you will be concerned with what exaclty it is youre buying. i recommend this place to look at the fish but won't bother buying anything here unless its at a reasonable price! good luck to all! :) read more

Do not go to get your fish here I bought nineteen fish and only have nine left do to ICK because the water had ICK we started a new aquarium and we slowly lost a fish then in two days we lost another when I took a fish that had died to another fish store they told me the fish had ICK when I called the owner of the fish store she tried to blame me for the fish dying now my grandson who had a fish that died is upset and I am tried of not getting what I paid for. read more

came here to get my daughters first pet and the experience was awesome. they have so many selections to choose from from salt water fish to fresh water fish. customer service was the best they explained how to take care of a gold fish to me because I needed the pep talk lol. this place has everything you need for the fish and very easy to find things. I stopped by again, this time in the market for some dwarf crayfish, which are generally smaller, more peaceful, and less likely to destroy plants, three characteristics that I much appreciate. Dwarf crayfish are pretty easy to find online, but it's expensive to ship them, and guarantees can be spotty, so I prefer in-store dealings. Anyway, they still get four stars for having good stock, but it would be nice if they knew a little more about their crayfish. They were selling Blue Tiger Lobsters (Cherax misolicus), as well as some Blue Lobsters (I'm using their names for their stock) that looked to me more like dwarf cajuns that are of the blue variant (Cambarellus shufeldtii) than the Electric Blue (Procambarus alleni) or Hammers Cobalt Blue (P. clarki); however, when I asked the lady, she said that she didn't know the species, but she was certain that they weren't dwarf. I think she thought that I was just using a different word for small, but she said that all crayfish grow large, which isn't true. They were also selling some called Strawberry Lobsters for $15 that looked like the much-loved Mexican CPO's (Cambarellus patzcuarensis); again, she said they just used the name that they received, but was certain that they weren't dwarf. However, they were markedly different from the larger Orange Crayfish that they were selling for $25, and there isn't much on 'strawberry crayfish' online, so I'm pretty sure that they just aren't well-read on crayfish. It's not a big deal; part of being a good consumer is knowing how to tell what you're actually buying, but it would be good if the seller also knew some stuff. The four stars is more for the availability and the pricing than the information. read more

I found this place on yelp trying to replace the previous fish died. The staff was friendly and answer my question even though I was a newb. After I change my tank to larger tank and the staff setup my new tank and no extra charge and help me gather the setup. They didn't try to upsale me. Can't complain. They carry a wide variety of supplements I need for corals and fish at normal prices. Not higher than other places. Sometimes lower. Great variety of food. Jan's has always been good to me I've bought tons of fish there from koi, oscars, shovelnose catfish, loach, and even salt water fish. Everything I've ever bough there has been happy, healthy and has thrived in my tanks. It is a mom and pop shop so there is mom and pop prices, rules, and policy. The workers there have always been helpful and are willing to work out any issues you may or may not have. All in all love jans and it is definitely my go to fish store. read more

I have been doing business at Jan's for several years, the staff is friendly and helpful. They have a good variety of fresh water and marine (salt) fish and supplies. They have a minimum purchase of $10 on all credit card sales and no refund once an item is purchased. Their prices are a little more than you pay on line and the chemical for salt water are very high. Overall the place is a good source for fish, corals and water. Suggest buying supplies online. Reason for the three is their pricing is high all else being equal this is a great place. read more

I ADORE this store! It's the cleanest fish store I've ever been in, has tons of foods and supplies, and the variety of fish is exceptional! I saw fish there I haven't seen for sale anywhere else. AND... there was not a single dead or sick fish, or algae in the entire place! I was blown away! The guarantee is for only 24 hours (?) but didn't matter, as this is the first time in my life that I've gotten 4 fish from the same place that were active, healthy and eating from the moment I brought them home, and were not harboring any diseases. I will buy my fish from this store ONLY from now on. Even though I live an hour away, it's more than worth it, as you get a quality product or fish, and the way this place is run shows it.
