It looks like a really cute old retro spot when you pull up. I went inside and the worker who rang up my order was extremely helpful. It was my first time and I had no idea was Janson's drive in was popular for. There were many deals for certain days of the week. I went with the cheese fries and also a Philly cheesesteak. The cheese fries were probably some of the best cheese fries I had since I've moved to Chicago. The cheesesteak however was okay but it had a weird aftertaste. I may go back again and try. I went in for a pick-up for Door Dash, completely disappointed. I have never been there before. I had no clue how their pick-up service worked. I was completely ignored first off...then I didn't know they gave your order separately. The young man working the counter was completely rude. Gave me one bag...then handed me another bag by a different part of the counter. So I thought that was it so I proceeded to leave...he come running out to me saying there was more! Always a great place. I usually get cheese dogs but the burgers and gyro is good too. The shakes are great. But due to lactose intolerance I haven't been able to enjoy this place as often. I also drive for Grubhub and this place is weird. It's the only restaurant I've seen that requires you to bring the delivery bag in the restaurant. I guess it's to prevent giving food to the wrong people, but paying attention better would solve that issue. I prefer to leave my bag in the car. Still, great food. read more

You know a place has to be good if there are tons of squad cars outside... yes/no/maybe? Happened across this place because it was open late had bright lights and said tacos. Sadly, they had 1 taco which was beef and deep fried.. Such a bummer, but I refocused on sammiches. I ended up with the grilled charbroiled chicken sammich with fries. This combo was the ultimate perfection! The chicken had the right taste of broil and juicy and those fries were hot and crisp! They are known for their milkshakes, which I need to go back for! The flavors looked unreal! I need to try my hand at those cheese fries too! As an aside, which I didn't know at the time, you can order any sammich and ask for beef, chicken, or portabello.. BONUS! A little expensive for a "quick" place, but good value and open late relative to surrounding places. read more

I used to come here before COVID a few times and it was always great. Sadly I came In the other night and the service was horrible. The cashier was very rude and entitled. She was the only worker not wearing a hat and kept playing with her hair while passing out food without gloves. Food was good but those girls need some serious training. Talking rudely about customers and rolling their eye's while others are still in the building isn't a good look. Not much management or discipline. 12/08/2019: Am revising my review with regards to their cheeseburgers. Something has gone wrong with the quality of this menu item. The most recent three times I have ordered one, the meat has had a weird, almost grainy texture with an unpleasant mouthfeel. This place is good.. definitely surprised me that's for sure! We stuck to basics.. Hot Dogs/ Polish/ Double Chesseburgers and they were all great. I just had Janson's for the first time. I got a Capri-Chicken, fry, and large drink that totaled to 14.85. It was a little expensive for "fast food " which is why I gave it 4 stars but it was really good and the staff is very friendly. They helped me through the menu And was very patient with me. Excellent food and excellent customer service! I placed my order online but still had to wait when I arrived. The staff was so friendly and kept me updated on the delay. They offered me a free shake while I waited and also offered a 5$ gift card due to the wait. I love this place. The food was good, but the fresh banana shake was just as fantastic as when I was a child. It is still the best shake on the planet.

We stopped in for a quick bite on the way to the Southside Irish St Patrick's parade. My husband said his Chicago dog was terrific. My bowl of mushroom soup was quite possibly the best I have ever had, right up there with some five star elegant places. It was perfect for what we needed to warm us up. We ate at the sometimes counter as the small sit-down area was used for staging their float. I do wish there were more healthful options, but this is fast food. Done right. read more

I've been coming here since there reopening and have never really looked at the prices. The food is decent for a little greasy spoon with neighbor history due to the longevity in the area under the old owner. I have never really looked at our bill until tonight. My son ordered a BBQ bacon burger, fry and a shake. I decided to get a fry too. $18 and change!!!! The burger is almost $8!!!! I don't think a burger from Epic is that much!!! The New York Strip sandwich is $2 more......that odd for a burger that is not hand pressed from fresh meat. My thoughts, Jansens prices are consumer driven based on analytics from what the average customer orders and inflating the price . I really enjoyed the idea that the new owners "wanted to breathe new life" into this establishment founded in 1960. This is straight from their website! This will be our last time at Jansen's. I had some time in between work appointments and decided to try this place out! It's very fun. Old timey feel with updated flat screens for their menu. What I ordered was based off of what people recommended. I'm not a fan of banana so I got a chocolate shake with fries and an avocado bacon burger. I'm a cheese burger kind of girl and totally forgot to ask for it and I think I would have really liked the burger with cheese. It was pretty good without as it is. The fries are good too, they are crinkle cut and remind me of Portillo's fries. But the chocolate shake was really good! Creamy but not too thick, it was easy to drink out of a straw plus there was a large dollop of whipped cream on top. Service was efficient. Not terribly friendly but not rude by any means but there was a decent crowd so there wasn't much time for pleasantries. Another great classic institution in Beverly(besides Original Rainbow Cone, and NOT one that you can merely just go to the Taste to try, but actually have to make the trip down here to go to it!). The cheese fries are definitely worth getting, if you're ever in this neck of Chicago. After an unexpected service call brought me to the southside today, I knew what I was going to try. After their debut Sunday on Chicago's Best TV retro style drive-in spots, I was looking forward to my visit for an Italian Beef (dipped, add cheese and sweet and hot peppers) and a Banana Shake made with fresh fruit. It's finger licking good. Great family operation and friendly team members. Owner's daughter Brie, is very helpful to us first-timers. Already looking forward to a return visit for a strawberry/banana shake, with all that fresh fruit it must be healthy. I'll have to skip the sandwich next time so I can focus on what's important... which will be their cheese fries with celery salt! read more

Jason's has always been a great place to stop and eat. Their shakes are especially good. However, the quality of their food has really taken a dive lately. The food really has not tasted very good, that is if they can even fill out the order correctly. In addition, the last shake I ordered had a banana that had barely been blended, so the shake was full of chunks of banana. read more

A pox on this place! I was approaching a state of near-thinness until this establishment re-opened and once again began tempting me with its shakes. The hot dogs and cheeseburgers are good, and the place is much, much cleaner, but the shakes are what brings me back. The shakes are what I call "tobacco," i.e., a priority. For instance, in the old days when I smoked the legal stuff (French: tobacco de nonimprisone), if i had four dollars and was hungry and out of smokes and had to choose between squares and a square meal, I'd always get the cigarettes. I do similar things for Janson's shakes. Like last Tuesday. I no longer smoke (German: Meine Frau verbotens das smokin'), but last Tuesday I was driving past Janson's when the kids complained of hunger. How convenient! I could shut the kids the hell up and get myself a shake at the same time! Yet after pulling in to the parking lot, I discovered that I had but five dollars in my pocket. What to do? What to do? All I can say is that the looks my children give me when I emerged from Janson's with a single large vanilla milkshake tugged on my heartstrings for several seconds afterwards. But doggone it, I needed that shake. And let's face it: I saved my kids from another calorie-heavy meal. I kind of should be emulated. I love how they are employing local kids again. And I don't mean "white" local kids, but all local kids. We need that. I'll support Janson's just for that. Not that the workers at Janson's in the final few years before it closed were bad . . . not at all. Near the end, they weren't kids, though. I'm just glad they have kids working there. The new owner is a man from Indiana, I think. I have seen him there on several occasions supervising and helping out. Good vibes. I'm glad Janson's is open. read more

The food is amazing the place is very clean and also great friendly staff. The one this is when they re opened they got rid of all the specials which is terrible idea..yes they have special offers here and there and came out with some sort of discount if your text a certain number.. but still the increase in prices just way to much. If you bring your family there your going to be paying for it.. I hate to post updates that go in a negative direction, but Janson's closed and then, to our great delight, opened again. But there is trouble in Paradise! They really increased their prices. Even if you share a side and a large drink, it is really expensive. The food is okay but not great, as it had been. I don't know why. Maybe they upgraded their ingredients, and maybe the "old" way they cooked their food was worse for you but more delicious. Service is still friendly and fast. I hope they add specials or offer coupons. This place is an institution. I think they are resting on their laurels now, and assuming that loyal customers will always come back...but some of us won't be here anytime soon. read more

They use pretzel buns I think but so soft and will custom your burger for you. Fries always hot. You go to a counter; stand and wait to order; pick up - no waitresses.
