Ordered 2 Gyros platters - one with fries, one with baked potato, also 2 Big Baby hamburgers. Requested RAW onions, repeated the request several times. Got them with grilled onions :-( Disappointed because this really does change the taste of the burgers. The gyros were good and portion was plentiful. I've been to AV Anthony's a few times before, but this was the first time I actually sat down and I'm so glad I did. The place has this super cool rustic Americana feel, vintage street signs covering the ceiling and walls. It's like a time capsule, but in the best way. Definitely gives it character and it top of that the lady at the front was super nice, excellent service. I ordered my go-to: the Maxwell Street-style Polish, and man, they nailed it. It came out hot, fresh, and loaded. The grilled onions were charred and sweet, the sport peppers with right kick, and the Polish itself had that classic taste when you bite into it, juicy an flavorful. The fries were golden, crispy on the outside and soft inside and they give you a good portion too. Every bite of that meal was just pure bliss. Solid food that hits every craving dead-on. Prices are pretty out of control. $7 for a basic chicken sandwich. $13 and some change if you want fries and a drink with it. They're charging like it's a sit down place when it's a no frills fast food joint. Idk what happened, inflation is one thing but the way they have spiraled on costs is astonishing. New ownership trying to squeeze everything they can out of this joint or taking on too much costs to do things like have a snazzy website when you're charging $7 for some chicken in between bread. I've ordered from here three times and not one time has the food been appetizing. I've had the chicken gyro, regular gyro and the plain chicken dinner. They do not add enough sauce to the gyro and the chicken was so dry I had to add barbecue sauce to it and that didn't help, so I threw everything away. I have never had chicken so dry. Baked potato was not baked all the way through, it was still solid in the middle. The only thing good about the chicken dinner was the garlic bread. The leg and the chicken wing were so overdone there was no meat left to it. The breast and the thigh were charred so bad it was dry. Waste of money. I ordered online so I didn't have to stand in line and when I got there. I had to wait 5 minutes to get up to the counter with one person in line and then I was left standing there just waiting to pick up my order for another 5 minutes. I ordered online and paid online so I don't think I should be standing in line for 10 minutes waiting for my food. I really wanted to like this place because they're open until midnight and everything pretty much closes at 10pm. I started a new job on 67th street a little more than a year ago, and Anthony's has become my favorite "go to" for lunch. I average once, maybe twice, per week eating good hot food from Anthony's. I order the salad all the time and the grilled chicken is always fresh and hot!! I've recently started ordering their chicken sandwich which is a 10+!! Visited this location for lunch today after dropping my son off at the airport walked in the young lady taking orders was very friendly and very polite and very helpful. The restaurant was immaculate so clean so bright so organized outstanding super super clean place my order receive my food and the food was amazing. We ordered the Grecian chicken, a hamburger lemonade and vanilla ice cream cone. All of the food was amazing some of the best ice cream in the entire city. The grease and chicken was enough for lunch and dinner outstanding service outstanding food. Ordered for delivery. Arrived on time and hot. Hubby said his burger was delicious. I had a total-dipped Italian beef with a bit of red sauce - it was everything I've been craving and more. Placed an order there on 10/11/25 . It was a custom order of a hamburger with just ketchup and raw onions, but received a hamburger with grilled onion, ketchup and pickles. My travels took me to Chicago Midway. This is the one off restaurants that make Chicago food so good! They do allow indoor dining. I ordered the Italian beef and my girlfriend got the gyro. The Italian beef was extremely tasty and is moist with dipping sauce already applied! The gyro meat was very favorable and not dried out one bit. The pita was perfect with a golden brown roast. Both were 5/5 in flavor! I'd give AV a 5 star rating if it wasn't for the wait. We waited over 30min for our food. I would like to say I am disappointed, annoyed, and disgusted with my food. I work nights, and I order my food so when I come home, I can eat and rest for the next working night. I was craving BBQ. I should have known better than to order that type of cruise around 10pm, but I had done it before, and the food was fine; then again, those were other places and pick-ups. I ordered off Uber Eats, Ribs, Rib Tips, 6 "Chicken Wings", Maxwell styled Polish. Others are in the home to collect the meal. When I got home, the food looked like it wasn't touched; I should have guessed, and thought they were being polite and waited til I ate, but that was not the case. The potions were annoyingly small and not at all what expected. The flavor was off, specifically the ribs, flavorless and burned to taste even though they were oven-cooked. I noticed that with the ribs tips, slimy and mediocre to my taste buds. The sauce was highly vinegarette. You order "chicken wings," which they have a picture of, and get potions, and the taste is so salty. The only thing that could be saved was the Polish; truthfully, I'm horrified to try it.​ The amount I paid for this was highly embellished. I should have done more research or just waited. Holy menu overload. This was a quick option close to Midway that provided a lot of food for a cheap price! I opted for the Gyro Platter and it was massive. The meat was fantastic but it was pretty hard to eat! I had to eat half the meat by itself before I could even pick up the pita! (This is a good thing). This is a something for everyone place in a comfortable, family-oriented but messy environment. The 10' menu promotes burgers, dogs, gyros, sandwiches and BBQ ribs. The Greek salad was a disappointment--heavy on iceberg lettuce and sharp white onion slices. No Mediterranean or vinaigrette dressing was an option so I chose Ranch. Note; you could break a tooth discovering the black olives were unpitted. Tomato, bell pepper, and cucumber slices were other veggies. Basically, my Greek salad was a typical side or garden salad with feta cheese chunks. The gyro consisted of roasted chicken on a bed of more lettuce, white onions and tomatoes. No yogurt dressing--no dressing--of any sort was on the gyro. However, a small cup of sweet mustard was on the side. Since both chicken and salad were uninteresting I mixed them together. Now you know, Chicago's South West Side is not known for Chicago Style Hot Dogs and such, But Anthony's puts me in the mind of a nice and old fashioned grease spot on the north side. But that is totally a compliment. The place is really clean, and pretty well taken care of. It was 12 AM at night and I wanted a Gyro, now you know, here you can get it your way. How the mighty have fallen! I've been going here for about 20 years. This used to feel like a neighborhood place, now it feels like another corporation on the block. Recently Anthony's got bought out by a new owner. The prices have gone UP and the quality has gone way DOWN. The started buying lower quality meats and removing combos off the menu so you have to spend more $$$. Love the cooks and cashiers there, but the owners cut every corner to save money at the cost of authenticity and flavor. I started going to the Biggs just a couple blocks down. Me and a colleague of mine wanted to try a different restaurant, other than our regular restaurants in the area. We agreed to AV Anthony's after mutually agreeing on an item featured on their menu. Looking at the menu online, it reminded me of Portillo's Hot Dogs due to its similarities in items on the menu, which consisted of burgers, subs, tacos, salads, soups, pizza puffs, gyros, ribs, chicken, seafood, and hot dogs. And I was blown away to find that its restaurant sold beer which I did not catch while ordering online, but caught while picking up our order. I called to place our order and was immediately put on hold for 4-minutes until the call eventually dropped! I called back immediately and waited an additional 4-minutes then I eventually hung up. Since that did not work, I gave it another try but this time ordering online which failed at first because it did not take my credit card. I then switched to the option to pay once I arrived which was timely but eventually went through. With that whole experience I recommend ordering from the website instead of calling to place your order unless you want to be placed on hold for who knows how long. We ended up ordering 2 Fish sandwiches w/ fries after viewing pictures of it shared on Yelp. And we ordered with the preference of them being two separate fish orders w/ fries, but little did we know that we would receive 2 Fish sandwiches w/ only one order of fries. Prior to me leaving to pick up our order, another one of my colleagues added to the order which ended up being the BBQ Rib tips. The mind boggling part about picking up our order was the restaurant was empty and it did not look busy which does not make sense because of what I dealt with while trying to order. Very unsat! In closing, yes! I would order from AV Anthony's again, but I would be very cautious of what I order because of this experience. This whole situation could have been prevented if there were some sort of a verbal confirmation after we ordered online, but how do you contact a restaurant that continues to put you on hold?
