Left is Chicken Gyoza and on the right is a regular Teriyaki chicken with fried rice (1A)

A hole in the wall that's been around for years! So good. I always get the 1A which is Teriyaki chicken except I sub fried rice for the steamed rice. Depending on my mood I'll get the spicy teriyaki sauce instead of the original but both are delicious. Today I tried gyoza for the first time in my life. I ordered the 10 piece but ate a few on the way home because I was starving and anxious to try it! You can get them steamed, pan-fried, or deep fried. I did pan fried and they are very good! May try deep fried next time just to mix it up. Service is fast and friendly. Love supporting local family owned businesses!

I used to come here when I lived in Wichita. I come back to visit a couple times a year and it just taste the same anymore. I think it's okay value for money but not the greatest. I'm sure this is a very unpopular opinion. 3/5 Yakiudon with shrimp 3/5 Pot stickers 3/5 Fried rice Everything was just average. Service was the same as I remember with the same Japanese lady from all these years ago. I used to get the free student soup. I'll come back just for nostalgia. Happy to see this place survived all these years though.

Always delicious and very affordable. My family loves pan fried dumplings and the udon noodles.

Peaceful small restaurant with great food and friendly service. My new favorite spot. Teriyaki Chicken is the best! I also enjoy their obento and their pan fried dumplings. I will be back for the rest of their menu.

This was a hidden gem and yelp helped us find it. Close to authentic and family ran. I had the teriyaki chicken with rice. It was the smaller size and just the right amount. Not too much and not too little. I had the green onion pancakes. Yum. My daughter had the sushi. The sushi roll was huge and great taste.

I still remember the first time I ate at Japan Express. I was 15 and out and about with my brother shopping for back to school clothes. Of course my first time here I ordered the Teriyaki Chicken bowl haha. I slowly gravitated towards their other dishes as my visits became more frequent. I think I've tried every dish on their menu by now. This is place is so good, when I was in high school, I used to skip class and drive all the way from Derby to come eat here! This place is definitely a hidden treasure in Wichita. The decor is simple and the staff are very welcoming. You place your order at the front counter, wait for your number to be called, eat out of styrofoam box, and clean up after yourself. I don't mind this concept at all! It keeps costs down because they don't have to hire servers. I always try to stop by here at least once whenever I'm in town. My favorite dish to get is the Obento with double scoop of rice. I sometimes substitute the fried mushrooms with deep fried Gyoza. It's whatever I'm craving that day. Their teriyaki sauce is amazing here. Just the perfect amount of sweetness. I also love their spicy soy sauce! The tonkatsu pork is very crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. I love drizzling the tonkatsu sauce all over it. I could go on and on about every dish here and write a novel, but I'll end it with that. If you're ever in Wichita, I highly recommend giving this place a try.

The service was good and our server was very helpful and really took care of our concerns. The food was good for the area. We had the classic and mentai gyoza. We tried the deep and pan fried and end up liking more the pan fried. We also tried the iron pan fried rice, I like that it isn't oily and just enough. My favorite is the karaage coated in bamboo charcoal, that was really good. And of course for the drink, the shikuwasa! I missed the taste of it - it is basically like a key lime but more on the sweeter side. Overall I like the interior and exterior design and how they placed tables around. Also the bathroom is pretty clean!

By the end of course 3, I was ready to get my check and leave. The time in between each course was painfully slow. Next, there was absolutely no thought that went into each course. Everything that came out was convoluted with no flow in the way the courses were presented. It was clear that the chef lacked vision in what he wanted to do and it showed. They had advertised A5 wagyu but what was presented was over cooked deli meat slapped on top of a giant bed of salad or compressed on top of sushi rice. I couldn't even finish the dishes after one bite. The entire time, I couldn't help but wonder why did they have to ruin the integrity of such a delicate protein? Not once but three times. Which brings me to the next course, the wagyu burger patty itself was overcooked and the fondue sauce that it was slapped on made everything soggy and disintegrated before I could even get a bite. This was by far the worst meal I've ever had and I won't be returning. *The best part of our meal was our server who was great and very knowledgeable in presenting each course.

When we first got to the restaurant, we were seated fairly quickly, but it took a while for the waitress to come over to take our food order and even give us our drinks. And then when she did take our order, she had to come back multiple times to ask questions that we had already answered. So the service started out on the low side. However, then things started to get better. When they found out I had a seafood allergy, they came over to the table about 3 - 4 times to make sure that the food I was ordering was not going to give me a negative reaction which I really appreciated. And after I got my food, they came back again to make sure everything was enjoyable. We also got a different waiter, about half way through because our waitress was getting off, which may have impacted the initial service we got. The waiter who helped us on the second half of our visit was very attentive and checked on us continuously. The food was also really good. I got fried oysters which were very large and flavorful. My husband got wings and my daughter got pot stickers. We enjoyed all of the food. I ended up getting the salmon teriyaki bowl that was tasty and my husband and daughter both got fried rice, which they also enjoyed. We would come back again, but just would prefer to get somebody to wait on us who's not about to be off because it negatively impacted the beginning of our experience.
