Good experience. Great food. We come here often and my little one loves the show and all the cooks are great with kids. We've always had great service and they accommodate food allergies! I always get excited when we get the cook that's a little bit quicker than the rest we come so often we don't always need a show lol. I feel really bad for this place. It's literally right next to the Mongolian buffet; which seems to be taking all of the business. To the pint where they have signs all over their windows stating they are not a buffet. I went with my husband and two year old? And while the hibachi show was not "great", it wasn't horrible either. The hibachi steak was really good and the fried rice was some of the best I've had, and my husband agreed. The misogyny soup was a little watery but still delicious, and the house salad was completely drenched in ginger dressing, which was a little off putting. Our son received a cute cup of apple juice with a little umbrella. And loved their chicken nuggets and fries. Our server, Josh, was very good with our son, and kept up with our eating very well. Granted, until we were almost finished, we were the only people in the restaurant. It also seems they only have one chef, which makes sense to me if they get the amount of customers we expect they do with what we saw. If they don't get a lot, why hire people to sit around? I think people should give this place a chance because I foresee them closing down in the future because of how slow their days are. read more

My sister and I went here for sushi and it was pretty good. We split a sushi/sashimi combo for $30, ordered a few extra rolls in the $7-12 range, and I had a small pot of their house sake. Quality and presentation of the rolls were great and the fish was very fresh. Very good value for the area (Western Branch) and I will definitely be coming back for more sushi. read more

We were waited on by the owner and Jake prepared a fabulous meal, and we directly tipped him 20% in cash. Once our meal was over the owner brought us our check and charged us 18% gratuity for them to split. I can completely understand tipping the Chef and bus boy (which we were going to do prior to finding out the extra charge), but splitting the tips between the Chef, bus boy and THE OWNERS? Absolutely not, they are the owners of the restaurant and should not be taking any tips meant for their staff. They should also notify their guests prior to adding any unknown expenses to their check. If I could give the food and chef 5 stars, and the management 0 stars I would, so I'm leaving this review with 2 stars. read more

I was very disappointed tonight with my bill from here. I've been going to this restaurant since 2004 and we have NEVER been charged for things we were charged for tonight. The waitress, who is the owner's daughter, never brought a drink to the table but charged us. I had complained before about them writing in the gratuity amount when they run my credit card but they still do it. What if I want to pay more than 18% gratuity? I have made up my mind and I am NOT going back. Make sure you thoroughly check your bill & make sure you ask about additional charges if you do substitutions. Japan Samurai is one of favorite restaunts for dining out. I took a large group of friends here for my most recent birthday and also go here often for date nights. The owners are extremely friendly and accomodating to guests. I've only had to wait to be seated a couple of times, 15 minutes at the most. The hibachi chefs are very friendly, entertaining and talented. I always order hibachi chicken or chicken and shrimp and steal some of the steak from my boyfriend's plate :) The two dipping sauces for the meat are really tasty! I always have leftovers to take home and it is still delicious when I heat it up to have later. The hibachi dinners are a little pricey but you have to consider you get soup, salad and hibachi along with it and you will porbably have leftovers! Great hibachi! Entertaining hibachi chefs. Good prices (especially compared to Beni-hana). I have had their sukiyaki steak, strip steak, and scallops. All were very delicious and satisfying. I always go home with leftovers because there is a lot of food. The only reason I give them 4 stars instead of 5 is because they don't offer any stirfry noodle hibachi dishes and they have miso soup instead of the fried onion soup. BEWARE! Do NOT go to this restaurant! Moment we sat down we felt disturbed. The atmosphere had food poisoning written ALLL over it. We didn't want the hibachi side so we went to the sushi bar. The sushi chef was not Japanese... he looked like Bubbles from the Trailer Park Boys. Two tables over were a husband and wife and she coughed up her lungs every few mins. Just felt gross in there. VERY and I mean VERY limited sushi menu. And prices are HIGH! I would NOT recommend this place to anyone! This is one of my family's favorite places to eat. The food and entertainment are great, if you get the right person. We are not sushi eaters so we only have had hibachi. I used to eat beef and the marinated steak is absolutely delicious! It's difficult to go there and not order it. It is a bit pricey, but you get a lot of food. Ive dined here many times in the past and always had good experiences however today i got take out and was not happy. Normally the portions are a very healthy size and when i got home and opened the box it looked like someone's leftovers, not even enough to fill me up. I ordered take out sushi from here. Never ate there but they were conveniently nearby. Their menu online didn't include a detailed sushi list so I called and asked if they had a roll what I had in mind. They didn't, however, he specially made the roll for me. Picked it up in 15 mins. This place sucked. I got horrible service. They were very slow. I work at one of these and I make sure you get the best service. we did not tip it took 30 minutes just to bring out soup and salad. It's not exceptable.I . I had a play to go to at 8 which I will be late to. I asked to be sat at a different table so we could have out food cooked asap to leave. I will never be back here. We paid 54 dollars for our dinner and the filet was the best part! Not only that but just because they had friends that sat at our table they brought food and special drinks on the house they got feee. I am not saying they give you 30 pieces per roll, but I tell you what, there was not a single piece there that I could eat in one bite.. the pieces were HUGE!!! Great Hibachi and Sushi joint!! I'm not sure why there are some bad reviews on here but the food is great and you get plenty for the price. Sure, it's a little bit more expensive than your average meal but with the quality of the food you are receiving, it's well worth in my opinion. How do I start? My husband and I spent 4 hours in this restaurant even with a reservation. Once we were sat the waitress was slow and rude, she was slamming our cups and bowls down had a nasty attitude. Took about 35 minutes just to get soup and salad. 4 other tables were sat, served and left while we were still sitting very hungry and very upset. We then had to get up ask the owners wife when will we finally get a cook and she acted as if she couldn't speak any English no type of apology or resolution at that point in which was 2 hours later. When we finally got a cook he was trying to rush to cook our food and burnt the rice, burnt the veggies and appetizer shrimp. I then left the table again to talk to the owners wife to ask for a new cook that wouldn't burn our food and she stated it was just so busy and couldn't do anything in which angered me more to the point where I refused to pay if we couldn't get a new cook, I went back to my table and another cook finally came out and the original cook got mad and threw our tray with our food on it to the table, mind throughout this entire ordeal Mr.Kim who is the owner never came to our table to find out what was wrong or to try and help the situation he was mad because we wanted our food recooked he felt as though we should've dealt with it. Very poor customer service but back to the rest of the evening after he threw our food Jerry the other cook had to go back in the kitchen to remake our entire tray of food. The entire night we felt violated and very disrespected. Mr. Kim not once apologized for anything his servers did and only gave us 20% off our meal when it should have been free there were 2 pregnant women at the table as well and we were made to wait for 3 hours before we got food, we saw the restaurant go from totally full to almost empty. I am or was a very loyal customer who had been frequently visiting this establishment for over 6 years just to get this type of treatment on such a special night. I can say they lost a very good customer last night. No excuse to treat paying good customers in that manner. My advice to others don't go in this establishment on a special night or occasion you may get the worst treatment ever. Mr. Kim is the owner and has absolutely no customer service skills at all and is very rude, he has no moral sense when it comes to running that business. Does not treat his customers like people, get mad at you when it is his people that has done wrong, he feels like if you don't like it go somewhere else. Outside is a little deceiving. DO NOT pass this place up. Family came in from out of town. Decided last minute to come here. All employees were awesome, friendly and attentive. Waitress was always there filling drinks and making sure we were good. The chef was superb. A great entertainer and chef. Everything was cooked perfectly. We had steak, chicken, shrimp, and scallops. What a blast this place is. We have been to quite a few all over Hampton roads. We'll stick to coming here for our choice of Japanese steak house !!!!! Well done sushi and hibachi in Chesapeake, VA! Very clean restaurant with polite, competent and prompt service. The sushi bar is fresh and offers traditional favorites as well as some unique concoctions for the restaurant. We recommend the Jackpot Roll as a house special. Well, where to start. Samurai looks like a nice Japanese restaurant but it's the food and pricing that matters to me. To be fair many Japanese restaurants are pricey and the Samurai is no exception. The good news is the quantity is good. For hibachi, you get soup, salad, and your choice of hibachi meats. The bad news is my wife ordered the tepanyaki style meat and got sick. We're not sure if it was food poisoning but she fell I'll later that evening. She brought a to go box home with her which was promptly thrown away.
