    Chef working it!
    Johnathan S.

Wow this place was wonderful! My family and I went out to dinner at this lovely restaurant the other night and we really loved the ambience atmosphere! It was quiet, the food and service was top notch! The chef was delightful, funny and really was moving those tools and putting on a good show! My wife loved it and the food was just amazing! We have found a new spot to go to for hibachi nights! We had a little bit of everything from shrimp and steak, shrimp and chicken and teriyaki chicken too!

Gratuity charge for all parties regardless of size

Food is delicious without a doubt, the only thing that caught my husband and I off guard was the automatic 18% gratuity. I understand for parties of 6 or more but for two people is outrageous! The chef we had was amazing and I wish we had tipped him cash before knowing about the gratuity. Our mistake for not catching it, of course, so putting this here to alert other potential customers in case they miss it on the menu too.

This place is one of the best hibachi places I've been to. The staff is so friendly and nice and the food is amazing. I always go for the hibachi chicken qnd a sweet tea. The atmosphere is always exciting and full of joy.

    Thank you!

The entrance to this restaurant is completely inconspicuous! It looks attached to the Chinese buffet next door. And they're aware of this, so there's a sign to help with the confusion. Sure, it has a typo but you get the gist. There's no buffet here. It's a quaint Japanese hibachi and sushi spot in a shopping center with a Kmart that's going out of business, a bounce house, and the aforementioned Chinese buffet. I created my own roll: yellowtail, red snapper, smoked salmon and cucumber. They were large and scrumptious. Service was speedy. I like this place. After all, there's no place like it in Chesapeake Square.

I was blown away and by high school I was a fixture there ordering the teriyaki chicken with double meat, on rice or noodle, with no veg probably two to three times a month until I moved away. Then every single time I'm back home the first place I stop is at the Chesapeake Square Mall and sure enough the familiar faces that have been working and owning Nori Japan for years are there to greet me, they still remember my order, and the teriyaki sauce is still my favorite in all of the world and I've had teriyaki chicken in places all over the world from Tokyo to Bangkok to hell London to Hollywood and still... Nori Japan Chesapeake holds that #1 spot for teryiaki chicken for me. This place is an institution and a corner stone of the area. A a true blessing of a restaurant, I can promise yall that. P.S. if yall could tell me what your teriyaki sauce recipe is since I live across the country now... I'd kiss yall lol

But, I typically interrupt and let them know not to burn it. But overall, good place to eat, cooked fresh, and freshly cooked veggies. Service: they are friendly and once they see you often they remember you and your order. Nice people. Ambiance: this restaurant is located in the mall so there is no real ambiance per se. Typical mall set up. Nothing special.

I came in and ordered the sashimi deluxe and let the waitress know ahead of time that I could not…read moreeat mackerel or white tuna because those fish do not sit well with my stomach. When the dish came out, it was basically a 50/50 split of salmon and tuna. Most other restaurants usually include more variety in their sashimi deluxe, such as shrimp, yellowtail, tilapia, or even krab, even with a substitution, so I was already a little disappointed. Overall the tuna looked quite gray in color, and the salmon was noticeably dry. Definitely not the quality I expected for the price. What really upset me was the bill at the end. The menu listed the sashimi deluxe at $25, but my check showed $33. I politely pointed this out to the waitress, and she said she would speak with the manager. When the manager came over, I was told that the waitress was new and that there is an extra charge for substitutions. The problem is that neither the waitress nor I was informed about this beforehand. What made the experience worse was the manager's attitude. She came across as rude and completely unconcerned when I explained why I was frustrated. I understand businesses have policies, but customers should be informed about additional charges before ordering, not surprised when the check arrives. I'm sharing this review so future customers are aware to ask questions about possible hidden or unexpected charges before ordering. Also, I just want to make a note that I have been coming to Nana, since Panera Bread was still next door, so this change in food quality, prices, and service is very disappointing.
