I came in and ordered the sashimi deluxe and let the waitress know ahead of time that I could not eat mackerel or white tuna because those fish do not sit well with my stomach. When the dish came out, it was basically a 50/50 split of salmon and tuna. Most other restaurants usually include more variety in their sashimi deluxe, such as shrimp, yellowtail, tilapia, or even krab, even with a substitution, so I was already a little disappointed. Overall the tuna looked quite gray in color, and the salmon was noticeably dry. Definitely not the quality I expected for the price. What really upset me was the bill at the end. The menu listed the sashimi deluxe at $25, but my check showed $33. I politely pointed this out to the waitress, and she said she would speak with the manager. When the manager came over, I was told that the waitress was new and that there is an extra charge for substitutions. The problem is that neither the waitress nor I was informed about this beforehand. What made the experience worse was the manager's attitude. She came across as rude and completely unconcerned when I explained why I was frustrated. I understand businesses have policies, but customers should be informed about additional charges before ordering, not surprised when the check arrives. I'm sharing this review so future customers are aware to ask questions about possible hidden or unexpected charges before ordering. Also, I just want to make a note that I have been coming to Nana, since Panera Bread was still next door, so this change in food quality, prices, and service is very disappointing. read more

Server did not inform of the up charge and manager refused to take it off when it was pointed out on the check, despite the server admitting they failed to inform, and despite having had the modification done previously without any additional charge. We visited just this past weekend for lunch. We were seated almost immediately, but the waitress took quite a while to return and take our order. She seemed to be the only server working at the time, which caused some issues later when cashing out, as she was also handling a larger party at the same time. In my experience, sushi restaurants usually specialize as either roll-focused or sashimi-focused places. This one, in my opinion, is more of a roll place. The rolls weren't anything special--while they used a smaller amount of rice, they were overly filled with other ingredients like cream cheese or avocado (in my daughter's rolls). The sashimi was a bit thin, and my wife's sweet shrimp was quite small for the price--$6 each. The octopus wasn't bad, but it also wasn't particularly impressive. Decided to have something different for lunch today and I am glad I did. My lunch spicy trio box was pretty tasty. The miso soup was flavorful, the salad was crispy and the dressing very tasty, and the sushi was good. Food came out hot and didn't take that long at all. I do wish the sushi was spicier, and I did have plenty of ginger, but I should have asked for more wasabi. The vegetable tempura was very tasty and came out nice and hot. The sauce could have had a little more flavor, but the tempura and veggies were yummy. My waitress was very nice, pleasant, and attentive. Amazing sushi restaurant. The attention to detail that is paid by the staff makes quite the difference we were greeted, and quickly spoken to you by Nate our waiter. He was tremendous. We started off with water, and my husband got some wine, and I had Boba both were delicious We ordered an appetizer which was the crab Rangoon, they were delicious as well. Both of our meals came with miso soup, and my husband got a ginger salad, which was one of the best he said he had in terms of their dressing. They actually offered that size or other size as well. The sushi rolls were very tasty and worth the price. As well as both of our main meals. I got a Specialty sushi roll and my husband got the hibachi steak and chicken. The flavor of the fried rice, as well as the combination of flavors throughout the sushi were delicious. Our waiter, plus the hostess helped us figure out what to get off of the menu and treated us with so much care and kindness. Everything was clean, including the bathrooms, and the outside area even the cooks were really nice and accommodating. OK, I lived in Japan for 10 years, so maybe my standards are a little bit high. The tiger roll was edible. The steak hibachi my son said was similar to eating a tire. The rest of the rolls that we got were either spat out or avoided all together. $86 for mostly uneditable food the spicy tuna roll had no spice. It had no flavor. The tuna Nigiri tasted a little bit like my seatbelt so unless you're going to get the tiger roll, I would not waste my money for the gastric disaster that is probably going to be a result of that meal. My kids who also lived in Japan, decided that eating the lukewarm yogurt in the backseat of the car as a pallet cleanser was far more enticing than the meal itself. Annie is extraordinary as both manager and waitress. All of the wait staff are friendly, fast, and reapectful to everyone. While I have had dishes there I didn't like (found out I'm not a big fan of tentacles or cream cheese in my sushi), the food, over all, is delicious. It has been several years since we dined at Nana Sushi. It had been our favorite sushi restaurant shortly after it opened but we started visiting and enjoying other sushi places closer to our home and had not returned in a while. Nana was the only sushi restaurant open between 11 a.m and noon on a Sunday, which explains our choice. We arrived shortly after opening, late on a Sunday morning. The first thing I noticed was that their large, bound menus had been replaced by paper take-out style menus. The menu selections seemed to be the same, as I recall. There are 52 (!) options for "special rolls." There seemed to be only subtle differences between many of them, which made it difficult to decide on our choices. While we considered our choices for rolls, we ordered the fried gyoza. There were six to a plate and they were perfectly fried with a meaty, savory interior. The sauce with which they were served was nothing special: it seemed like a slightly sweetened soy sauce. There was about a 30-minute delay from the time we ordered our sushi rolls until they were delivered. While I appreciate the time it takes to create such works of edible art, this was longer than I have experienced at other restaurants with a similar order. All four rolls were served on a decorative Japanese raft-like bamboo platter, like I would expect to be used for special occasions. That was a very nice touch. My wife's and my rolls were intermingled on the plate, so it was a good thing that the server identified which roll was which or we would not have known who-ordered-what. This was the first time that I have been served sushi rolls with no wasabi or pickled ginger on the plate. By the time our server came back to our table, it was too late to ask for them. My wife liked her rolls. I found mine to be rather bland (mind you, I always garnish my sushi rolls with wasabi so the blandness may not be surprising.) The rolls were a good size so we could not finish our portions and had some to take home. With so many other good options for sushi nearby, I do not foresee a return to Nana for us for quite a while. read more

Ordered via doordash I was nervous about having sushi delivered but the quality of NANA withstood the drive to the house! We ordered a slew of tuna sashimi including blue fin- incredible. Their tuna and escolar are the best I've had in this area. The quality was noticeable. 10/10 We also ordered the chicken katsu and chicken teriyaki bento boxes- also a 10/10. The food was still piping hot and katsu crispy. I've been wanting to try Nana for years but rarely came out that way. We will definitely be stopping in for a date night. read more

When I tell you I love Nana Sushi. I'm really reserved when given five star reviews but this place just sparks on all cyclinders of five star quality that I have to render them the highest ratings! Lets start on the top service. Our hostess was so nice and went out of her way just to seat us in the best available table at the time; in this case, it was a 4-tip but it t was only my wife and I who she was seating. It was in a really nice part of the restaurant, close to the bar and not close to the kitchen, or restrooms. We had a good view of the entire restaurant. Hoon, our server came out and took our drink and appetizer order. The drinks came out. This place is alway great! Has some of the best sushi and unique dishes I have ever had at any asian restaurant. All very delicious and extremely fresh tasting!! My husband ordered the dragon and tiger rolls. He liked the tiger roll but the dragon seemed a bit different than the typical dragon, lacking a little flavor. The customer service was excellent and quick, the worker was very nice. Not jaw dropping omg this is the best ever... but good. Upon entering, one of the first things you notice is that someone definitely got a new color printer... and practically abused it. While I do appreciate the informative pictures and general visualization of things, it cheapens the place.. a lot... the pictures are everywhere. I was in the area and visited Nana Sushi again. The hostesses and waitresses are very nice and friendly. Always glad to help you with the food or making recommendations. The restaurant is pretty clean as far as tables and such, although my menus were a little sticky in places. I tried a drink, their wasabi ginger bloody Mary. It was good! More so at first. The wasabi was a great bloody Mary ingredient. So was the ginger, but as the drink level went down I had a lot of trouble drinking it with the ginger pieces clogging the straw. It came with a sweet pickle, some olives, and a tiny piece of celery. Ultimately, it's not the best drink with sushi. I tried their seaweed salad appetizer. It was a little bit small portion and served over some cucumber strips. It was a typical seaweed salad. I also had the uni, it was served with some big fish eggs for extra salty flavor, it just make the mouth feel weird. Uni is already a strange soft mouth feel. Uni was decent. The mango madness roll sounded better than it was. It didn't have any of the cilantro, just weakly spicy krab, tiny bits of mango, some tuna on top, and some spicy mayo. I'm glad the mayo wasn't too heavy. But the roll didn't end up tasting like much, maybe it needed the cilantro or something to bring more flavor. It was far from spicy. The veggie crunch roll was tasty, it came with real tempura sweet potato, omelette, avocado, some eel sauce, and I added asparagus. It was made fresh, the potato was still warm. I also had their Alaska roll, because salmon and avocado is a great classic. The rolls were all well made and came out in decent time. The fish seemed fresh and came out in good time. Still a 4 star ranking here. Hopefully find some rolls that really stand out to me and give the menus a wipe down. Absolutely a solid sushi pick though. read more

The food presentation has deteriorated significantly over the last year and today was the final straw. Went in there with my daughter and ordered the same stuff we always order. Each time we go it seems to get worse. This time the soft drinks we asked for were flat therefore it was water for us. Then the food came out and the rolls we ordered fell apart as soon as we touched them. Clearly the guys working behind the counter don't care about preparing the food properly. We asked to have this item taken off the bill and instead of doing so they discounted the item at 15%. We never touched it but yet were requested to pay for it. This place really needs to reevaluate their business practices and fix the issues they have. We will find a new location to buy sushi. I would rather pay a bit more and get quality service and food then go there again! read more

I have eaten at Nana sushi for years. I've never had a problem. I along with friends and coworkers that I have taken to this establishment have spent thousands of dollars without question. however, I interfaced tonight with a manager who would not refund or replace the cheesecake that I purchased the night before. I spent almost $50 on my drink, appetizer and entree. And I took the cheesecake to go. After tasting it, several hours later at home, it tasted like cornmeal. It was not sweet and I took it back around 6 PM tonight. This manager said I needed to have called her at a specific time ( within 24 hours). I showed up within 24 hours with the cheesecake and gave it back to them. This manager showed a lack of accountability and acted as if I was at fault by returning bad food. The cheesecake was only seven dollars. For me, after bringing many people to this establishment and frequenting regularly, I will never return again. I suggest that they change their attitude about seven dollars versus the totality of dollars they lose in revenue by this poor expression of professionalism. If I could've rated them a zero, I would have. Not because of the food, but because of the attitude. And maybe it had something to do with the color of my skin. Poor management!!!!!! read more

Haven't even gotten my food yet, but I'm compelled to review while I sit in my air conditioned car in this 90° weather. This is the third time I've chosen to eat from Nana. I don't think they will all of a sudden start to serve me less than quality AFTER the pandemic is over. They were hitting me with all types of fun and flavor from filet mignon rolls, to the Japanese Soda. Super good. I'll insert a video of their cool bottles. On a hot day, Sushi is perfect. But Nana sushi in Suffolk is even better. And I say so because I don't know another place in all of Hampton roads with fillet mignon rolls, or cool glass soda bottles. This is also the first place I've heard of "sushi pizza". It also tastes great. It's just sushi in flat layers with flakey filo bread as the crust. Genius! I know. The service is always great. It's pretty small inside, so don't expect too large of a group to fit. Especially because they're so good, it's usually packed when I visit. Plus, there's not a lot of parking, as they share a lot with a couple other restaurants. That's the only reason I didn't give it a 5 star rating. I'm always nervous trying to get in and out of the tight parking when it's packed. I know the restaurant didn't set up the parking lot, but still, it's sometimes an inconvenience. They do partner with DoorDash and Grub Hub. So if you're willing to pay extra, it'll be worth it for sure. Prices are a little over average but totally worth it in my opinion. I was seated quickly and at first, the waitress was super attentive, but as my meal progressed, she stopped coming by my table, yet kept talking to everyone around me. It was clear a lot of the other tables were regulars, which was nice to see, but when my sushi came, my waitress took my water glass away to refill it and it took 15 minutes to get her to come back and bring it back to me. Also, the 2 sushi rolls I ordered took forever to get and I didn't even order anything that complicated.
