Japanese Village is a teppanyaki style Japanese steakhouse. Teppanyaki means "chef's table," where the chef cook in front of you on a hot grill. Teppan means the metal plate (or grill) on which food is cooked and yaki means grilled, boiled or pan fried. Founded in 1972, it is one of the greatest place to create memories with family or friends, and get top of the line foods and a show!! The menu consists of steak, chicken and seafood (salmon, lobster and shrimps). You have the option of choosing steak, chicken or salmon by themselves, but you can also choose meal combinations. As you sit down at your grill / table, a serving staff welcomes you to the restaurant and takes your food order. As the grill gets warmer, miso soup and garden salad with dressing are served before your meal. Japanese Village also offers an assortment of appetizers (which are payable), such as vegetable and shrimp tempura, edamame, and Ika kara-age (deep fried squid tentacles). Beef at Japanese is always of the highest quality. You can choose teriyaki steak, New York cut, ribeye and filet mignon. As mentioned before, Japanese Village also offers chicken, salmon and lobster. A favourite combination I have eaten before are steak and shrimp, and the teriyaki chicken and shrimp - the latter is the usual combination I eat. Bowls of sticky white rice are also offered to you during the meal. JP has two types of sauces during the meal: the ginger sauce and sesame. The sesame is the favourite, as it is absolutely awesome. But to be honest, the ginger sauce is also delicious and both go well with the meats and sautéed vegetables. A thing at JP during the meal is adding the sesame sauce on top of the rice bowl. The ambiance at different JP locations are similar, but is the ultimate eating experience at any location you go to!! It is so because the food is cooked fresh in front of you on a grill, and eat the foods as it is prepared and ready to eat. But a fun thing that chefs do before they start cooking is give a show of "acrobatics" with knives and spatulas, which is always awesome to watch!! On a final note, Japanese Billage is a great place to eat a very nice meal, and to celebrate a special occasion - whether a date, a birthday or anniversary. Came here with 2 nephews - they loved the cooking show BUT I thought the cooking show was super short and the chef was very stone-faced and did not appear very friendly to the kids. Non-alcoholic chi chi was fun and in a huge glass. Virgin Peachy Ichiban was pretty good. Assorted tempura was great. 9/10. Soup I knew I would not like as is my preference. Salad was fine but I wasn't a fan of the dressing - next time I'll say dressing on the side. Side of rice was nice. Loved the sauces that came with the meal. We ordered a vaiety of meats and then got him to divvy it up so we could try everything. Teriyaki beef - 9/10 good. Chicken Teriyaki - 8/10 we got sick of teriyaki flavor, very strong flavor. Salmon teriyaki - 8/10 we got sick of teriyaki flavor, very strong flavor. Yaki Yaki shrimp - we got to try the shrimp with and without sauce - DID NOT like the sauce but shrimp was very nicely cooked. Vegetables (assorted) grilled. 10/10 loved the varitey and well cooked. The worst meal in many years, spend your money else where. There were 3 adults and 2 children. I knew when we arrived with kids that we were domed. They moved us to a remote part of the restaurant. The chef was very testy and not engaged at all. He refused to make vegetable for our kids and even to serve them our vegetables. Gone was the usual display of fire at the table. Then came the food. Small portions and the most average steak cooked in the restaurant, I am sure. Our bill came to almost $500.00, we could have went to a great steakhouse and had a delightful meal for that amount. We will never return. I will tell everyone I know not to waste their money on this swill. read more

Great show and flare from our chef. Food was great and top notch. I was visually amused with the chefs tricks and wit while he was cooking for us. Don't know his name but he was wearing a headband from the Hidden Leaf Village. And judging by his cooking jutsu, he must've been a Jonin. Believe it! I got the Shogun special with the A5 Wagyu beef and it was well worth the price I paid. Includes egg flower soup, vegetables, rice and lobster. My girlfriend got the steak and shrimp which was also just as tasty and well seasoned but not overpowering. We also had drinks and a couple appetizers. Price you could not beat for what you get. And skilled chefs that can make the night a delight. I wish we had these pricing for teppanyaki back home. Overall love the freshness of the food and amazing flare from the chef. Hubby and I went here for the first time for my birthday dinner! Our chef was delightful and entertaining and all of the food was delicious. Because it was a special occasion and a treat, I got the Wagyu steak and lobster tail and it was such a treat! The meat was so tender and rich, and pairing it with the fresh wasabi was so delightful! I would recommend this place for any special occasion, it's definitely not a cheap night out (especially if you treat it like a treat lol) but definitely a fun and delicious experience read more

We were initially seated at a table, but when the manager was told that we were only ordering drinks and appetizers, we were moved to the bar. My brother ordered the shrimp tempura, and I ordered the assorted tempura, which had two shrimp and mixed vegetables. This was in the afternoon, yesterday, June 21. Then, in the evening, my brother was throwing up with food poisoning. I also got severe diarrhea. The manager needs to check the kitchen for spoiled food. The bartender was friendly and chatted with us for a while. They did try to make us feel like second-class customers for not ordering a main course, but at 2-3 pm, we were not interested in that. My first career was as a chef, so I know what I am talking about. I hope that they read this and review their food safety procedures. read more

Ridiculously overpriced for glorified food court Asian cuisine. Decor that feels like a mix of Vegas and a cafeteria. We thought the kids would love the performance aspect of the experience but this was also phoned in at best. Half hearted dad jokes delivered by staff that appeared to be embarrassed by having to do it. The food tastes 'fine' but for over $200 for 4 (with one kids menu entree) it's a massive ripoff and we will never be back and do not recommend. We don't mind spending this much on a meal but honestly, it's just massive chunks of broccoli and zucchini in mediocre sauces. I remember loving it as a kid but it's a miss in every way now. This was my first time ever at a restaurant where everything is cooked right in front you! I'll admit I was a little hesitant when I first saw the prices, but after seeing how much food was included, and how great the quality was, the price was worth it. Our chef was very interactive and cooked everything that we ordered perfectly. All of the food was so flavourful and it was a very neat experience to be front and centre while it was being prepared! I definitely recommend coming here with a small or medium sized group, and just know that because everything is cooked at the table, the temperature of the restaurant is quite warm! read more

Japanese Village has just opened at WEM! Japanese Village isn't your typical sit down Japanese restaurant. Here your meal is cooked right in front of you on a Teppan grill. As your food is being cooked, the "grill master" also puts on quite a show with flipping the spatulas and other utensils as well as a little bit of comedy. I ordered the tempura to start which consisted of 3 vegetables, and 3 shrimp. The tempura arrived at barely room temp and a little soggy which was super disappointing because I LOVE tempura. For my entree I ordered Chicken Teriyaki, which is served with rice, vegetables, and egg drop soup. The meal is prepared in a way that you have to eat I it as each component is made to enjoy it while it's hot. Vegetables first, then your protein later. I personally prefer to have a little bit of everything as I eat, so I didn't enjoy this much. The seasonings and sauces were watered down, unlike your traditional Teriyaki sauce. In all Japanese Village was a bit of a let down for me, but if you want a show during your meal then this is the place for you. read more

My spouse and I went to this Japanese Village on Friday, September 10th, 2021 around 6:30pm. I had tried to find a review ahead of time on how they sat people at the tables because of Covid, and we were quite happy to see how our evening ended up. The location was packed full that evening and because it was just my spouse and I, we were lead to a "2nd level" for our table. We were seated with 3 other people that sat at the opposite end and there was lots of space between us. We were both comfortable with that arrangement. There were no plexiglass dividers or anything, but there was enough distance between us that we didn't worry about being seated with other people. The main level had tables full of families and groups and you could tell right away that those tables got the more experienced Chefs for entertainment. Service was a bit slow that night to take our drink orders. We had to wait about 20 mins to have someone take our order and bring our beverages out. I ordered the Teriyaki Chicken and shrimp and a Canyon Road Cabernet Sauvignon, while my spouse ordered the New York 10oz and a Saporo Lager. Our Chef for our meals was pleasant, had pretty great knife skills and was somewhat entertaining. It was really hard to hear him because of the other noises in the restaurant (vents, conversations, cooking, etc), so the overall cooking entertainment was just okay. Same jokes as always, and the tricks they normally do didn't happen. Our food was really good. Obviously fresh and cooked well because it was done right in front of us. Overall we had a great night out and would probably go again in the distant future. Cons for the evening: It was really loud (more than other places), service was slow, cooking entertainment wasn't great. Went with my family for dinner on Saturday night. Service was good and servers were very attentive and cook was very careful as our table had allergies to shell fish. Part way through our meal my young nephew threw up and we thought it was due to how hot the restaurant was. We cleaned him up and the staff were very quick to bring things to clean up the mess on the floor. I took my nephew out of the restaurant to cool him off and my family continued to eat. When I returned my niece was not feeling well and went to the bathroom. I quickly ate my meal and we left. I got out to the parking lot and was sick. All of us who ate the salmon at the restaurant had become ill within a few minutes of eating it. Do not eat at this restaurant they do not care if they get people sick. We contacted the restaurant and they have not responded to us. read more

The food was okay, but not the reason someone books a dinner at Japanese Village / Teppanaki The "show" was the worst we have ever experienced. Small warm up twirling utensils and that was it. Noticed the same at all the tables. This was so far removed from a normal experience at teppanaki, I was embarrassed that our friends were experiencing this for the first time, and this is what they received. Rice was not even cooked on the flat grill. Just a bowl of white rice brought out. No dessert included. And again, no showmanship what so ever. read more

The bartender and staff were friendly and helpful sadly, it ends there! Very high priced with a very lackluster Chef for entertainment! The meal was ok but not justified to charge those high prices! We came here for my wife's 40th birthday. We had a reservation so we got right in, so waiting was no issue. Once we were seated there was a bit of a wait to get our drink order taken. They were out of hot saké so we had to order a more expensive bottle of chilled saké instead. Our chef was very friendly and polite. He double checked our orders before cooking them and told us what 'Japanese' ingredients we were going to have. (Everything is 'Japanese' here. Lol). We really enjoyed the theater of watching our chef cook, as you don't get to see your food cooked on a flattop 18" away from your face every day. The food was excellent. I had told the hostess that it was my wife's birthday and they brought her a treat and sang her a song while using a drum. Overall I was very satisfied with my first trip to Japanese Village. It is an expensive treat, but a 40th birthday is a good reason to go. read more

Went there for a friends birthdate for dinner, there was five of us in total. The space is quite small. You end up pretty much joining the other party. We are super sociable so that was okay for us. The chef we got was very friendly and charismatic. I asked for my stake to be a med-rate. My meat was pretty well done. I didnt mind it, plus it was his first time. Im sure he will be great moving forward. We got drinks, which were good. The food was super tasty. Def worth the experience and worth coming back. Possibly the worst Teppanyaki show I've ever seen. Young kid banged his flipper around on the grill, then flipped it up in the air and dropped it. Followed by unfunny dad jokes. At least they were family-friendly. Food was just OK, but not what I'd expect at those prices. read more

I'm giving this place 3 out of 5 because the staff was friendly and the atmosphere looked great. In fairness my meal was to go, which I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. I ordered a crispy roll and on the description it stated the roll contained fresh salmon and tuna. Take a look at the picture of my roll and tell me what she section of sushi hell this thing came from. Might have been able to mask the fact that it was only deep fried rice in the roll if it had soy sauce. But they didn't pack that either. Thumbs down. read more

The restaurant was EXTREMELY HOT inside, and the smell of burnt oil was super strong. The vegetables in the salad were not fresh at all, wilted lettuce, browned and dried carrots. They only reason I have an additional start is because the food tasted good. Don't wear nice cloths here, you will leave smelling terrible and likely require immediate dry cleaning to get the stink out. read more

I took my parents here recently to celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary. I made our reservation about a week earlier and inquired about any packages that could add to this experience. They noted a $15 one where a group would bring out a cake at the end of the meal. If it wasn't for the pandemic, I recall that the group would have also dressed up and maybe sing or cheer their well wishes. On the day of our reservation, we arrived much earlier than our allotted time but surprisingly the host recognized our party and allowed us to check in. After settling at our table, we gave our drink and food orders and eagerly anticipated the arrival of our teppenyaki chef. Once the chef arrived, he did not disappoint. The smile and laughter coming from my parents as he entertained and prepared our meals was priceless. At the end, the staff served our cake which ended up being complimentary - nice! To top it all off, the owner/operator came to greet us and send best wishes to my parents. What a wonderful experience - exceptional food, exceptional service. This is a meal we won't forget.
