We ordered lots of little plates and they brought the plates out in twos. Everything was absolutely DELECTABLE. The drinks were great as well!! The only reason why I didn't give it 5 stars was because the server (although efficient) wasn't very friendly. Our server didn't chat with us, or make eye contact. I would even say was a bit terse. This was the first time my husband and I have been on a date in over a year because we're new parents. Just to start, my boyfriend and I were going to Jargon for his 25th birthday. Our Lyft driver cancelled on us and were going to be late to our reservations so I called the restaurant to let them know that we were coming but might be a little late. The guy on the phone was super nice and even thanked me for letting them know! Once we got there, we were seated in a booth that let the couple sit together on one side of the table. We were able to see the bar and the kitchen staff. They all looked super friendly and I enjoyed watching the kitchen staff go to work. Our server, Avery, was so funny and super nice. Our food was delicious and they have my boyfriend a complimentary champagne glass and fulfilled my request for a chocolate cake for him that I made on our reservations. We had solid service that knew how to make our night feel attended and satisfied. We had solid people watching but also their have whimsical cocktails if you want to splurge on something you haven't had before. Their brussels and beet salads were flavorful and just enough to get you ready for your entrees. The food and menu isn't electic but moreso quality local ingredients made well. We had the gumbo and the fish. The gumbo is definitely not your Nola influenced gumbo. Flavors were interesting but not what we expected. The white fish I had was buttery, flaky and the broth was so subtle and soft that I would've slowly sipped on it like tea if it was brought to me in a mug. It was very comforting. Good job on that. We started out with the watusi meatballs and I wasn't sure how I would feel about those but surprisingly they were tasty. We then ordered the fried chicken beignets with maple syrup and Louisiana hot sauce since I really had my eyes on those. They were amazing with just a little touch of heat. For dinner I chose the NY strip with Mille-feuille potatoes, beet purée, fall greens, mushroom XO, quick pickled lunchbox peppers. I was determined not to omit any ingredients and be adventurous. The steak was cooked perfectly and the potatoes were tasty. The rest just wasn't for me. I should have known the beet purée would not be something I would like. Hubby ordered the pork belly and scallop with the smoked cauliflower grits. He was surprised he liked the grits. The rest was not too appealing to him. Our server was amazing and so attentive. If you have a pallet for different types of foods and flavors, you'll love it. It was awkward to say the least. My friends used to love this place so they were dying to take me here. It was uncomfortable with an outside table a bachelorette party loudly taking place next to us. I was warmly welcomed by my host and eventual server, Kate. She, along with everyone else including the chef and the manager/owner, went out of their way to make me comfortable and happy. I wanted to try the Napoleon's Tots, which are only on the late night menu, but these awesome folks made me some anyway. And wow was I glad they did. Talk about elevating a simple food. Truffle oil, Parmesan cheese, and Lusty Monk aioli had these tots tasting royally delish. The deep-fried deviled eggs (I left off the roe) were crazy flavorful and came with wonderful dipping sauces. The kale salad was great, and I don't even like kale that much, so there ya go. I can't wait to go back and try their brunch. Jargon's interior was modern with circus posters along the rear on the way to the head, framed mirrors on another, and a collection of large lava lamps on a shelf over looking the bar. At the entrance, the cash register sat atop an old stand up radio. Our seating was intimate, right at the window, overlooking the street. Cozy. The staff are super nice, from being greeted at the door, given a table earlier than we were expected, to a server who appeared to actually enjoy working at this place. She was friendly and able to explain the dishes, giving some recommendations, and personally attentive. A man, later identified as the owner, was just as involved as the rest of his staff to deliver the perfect dining experience. What a delight! We started with the Elk meatballs over grits with melted burrata and basil. It was not gamey, having excellent flavor and juiciness. Our mains were the Pork Ribeye and the Seafood Gumbo YaYa.The setup for the Ribeye was parsnip puree, goat carrot, collards, and peanuts, with lobster mushroom butter. It was a perfect choice. The meat was moist, the veggies complemented the ribeye both in flavor and texture. The YaYa was a tasty mix of spices, shrimp, crawfish, andouille sausage, Tasso, rice, egg yolk, and scallions. It did have a kick but not enough to clear your sinuses. Another good choice. We shared a Pear Hand Pie for dessert. The fruity compote, inside crispy dough and topped with whipped cream, was the perfect way to end the meal. Wonderful food, wonderful staff, wonderful experience. My mom and I had the most amazing dining experience at Jargon during our trip to Asheville. It was easily the best meal we ate while visiting. We even contemplated eating here multiple nights because the menus elsewhere don't compare. The restaurant itself is absolutely adorable and the vintage/antique decor is so creative. We had a perfect table right in the front window. We were lucky to have two servers because one was in training. Both were attentive and friendly. The food and cocktails were incredible, we had not a crumb or sip leftover. We started with a fresh fish crudo plate, which had explosive flavors. My mom loved it, and she is not typically a raw fish fan. She had the scallops and pork belly while I enjoyed the rabbit pappardelle dish. I honestly couldn't decide which I liked better. The rabbit was the best rabbit meat I've ever eaten and cooked perfectly. We ended with two desserts because we couldn't decide: the lavender creme brûlée and asian hand pie. Both brilliant! I have to rave about one cocktail in particular, the "Pardon my French", absolutely refreshing! To end this wonderful experience, the restaurant owner, Sean, stopped by our table to ensure everything was beyond satisfactory. He must be one of the nicest restauranteurs I've ever met. After reading Jargon reviews, I decided that we would book my birthday dinner here while visiting Asheville. We always "over order", but again- we ARE foodies. I started with "About Thyme" cocktail which was very yummy , bubbly with just the right amount of Tito's in it. The hubs is a light beer drinker and our server led the way for him. She didn't disappoint. We ordered the "Kamaboko Dip" our server (blue hair and AMAZING chic!) (great energy vibe) told me when I asked her about it, "It's new today and the chef says he's very excited about it!" Okkkk, I'm SUPER excited about it! It was shareable size (ugh, I wanted it all!), it did give both my husband and I, 3 decent bites each. Hands down- life changing! The "local kale salad" was also up my ally. Very good, fresh and the perfect bite- the pumpkin and the crouton with goat cheese --- yes please! Yum! Hubs loved and very much enjoyed the "beef cheek pate". I tasted- it was great, but not my thing. If you like "smoke" flavoring, you'll love it. Crusty toast, crunchy onion and smoky beef. Very pretty plated and like I said, the hubs loved it. Here's my part of the review where I become the "foodie snob/bitch" whichever you prefer... against my intuition, I ordered the prime ribeye because other reviewers spoke of how awesome it is and how they'd drive miles and miles for it... (I was gonna order mushroom gnocchi as I was getting full) ... instead, hubs and I both went for the prime ribeye. We both ordered it medium. By the time we got to our main course they were getting slammed, so maybe that's it- but they both came out closer to very rare than medium. Also, neither plate of food was very hot. Maybe it sat for a few- they were busy... but still. The hubs always just goes with it because he wants his food right now. I tried, but after one bite knew I had to ask for a refire. The hubs prime ribeye was very fatty and very rare. He ate as much as he wanted then left the rest. My refire came back out very hot, the perfect medium and extremely tasty. But... I was full; so we packed it. I was too full for desert, so we got birthday cheesecake to go. The hubs says it was amazing. I'm saving mine til tonight. (A day later) He also heated up the leftover steak this morning and said it was brilliant. So, there you have it! This place is magical. Feels like you walk into a wonderland of warmth the second you walk through the door. Everyone on staff greeted us as were escorted to our table on the adorably decorated area on the back covered patio. Our waitress has a wonderfully authentic but professional demeanor and every table near us seemed to being having a wonderful time. Everything on the curated menu looked exquisite but we settled on Ricotta gnocchi, scallops and pork belly, with the crudo special app to start. We had smoky "ice breaker" old fashioneds with dinner and for desert we had a chocolate martini as we hear several nearby tables have at least 2 rounds. It was the best I've ever tasted. Thanks to the staff at The Argot Room - you all went above and beyond for our mother's 90th Birthday party! We had to ask for maximum agility as the weather was not cooperating for family pictures at an outside location to commemorate the event. Sean and Shelly opened the venue early so we could take our pictures at The Argot Room while they were preparing for our event. In hindsight, we should have planned to take our pictures there from the beginning - it is such a cool and funky place, the pictures turned out SUPERB! We had an early evening table and were seated outside (not our choice) and it was an extremely hot sunny day. We expressed our concern to the hostess but she insisted there was a fan pointed at our table. There was one fan for the entire outside and it oscillated. It was not sufficient enough for the heat. When the food came we had to contend with numerous flies which were very disturbing. Upon leaving, the dining room was still only 1/3 full. Not even a goodbye from the hostess. The waiter was nice and food was pretty good, not spectacular though. I'm sorry but for nearly $200 for 2 people for dinner and cocktails I want to at least be comfortable and we weren't. There is so much love and care going into every aspect of this restaurant. I took a chance on the trout because our waitress recommended it. I said I had never been convinced by trout so I wanted to be a believer. Well folks I BELIEVE! The fish was tender on the inside with a beautifully crispy skin. The flavors were a well balance Mediterranean/Indian flare, absolutely stunning. The duck was amazing with a crispy skin and juicy perfectly cooked inside. Dessert was my just as fantastic, Chocolate ganache with sea salt and cookie crumbs accompanied by port and a cup of French press coffee. We went on a Sat night and found the owner and manager were both on hand, talking to guests and checking up on everyone, very cool. We shared a variety of the starters, all delicious, a favorite being the coconut soup. As my main I had the trout, which was cooked perfectly. The Piper High Ball cocktail, named for the owner, is absolutely worth trying if you like tequila! And I'd drove all the way back to Asheville just to get the coffee service again, a perfect way to finish up. I honestly still can't stop thinking about it, sooooo good! Jargon has a beautiful outdoor patio area that has wooden walls, a sturdy covered awning, fans and heaters. The service was top notch. The food was a little hit or miss and definitely overpriced. The Brussel sprout snack was crispy and well seasoned with a tangy sauce. The carrot starter was bland and tiny for $16 and it came out room temperature rather than warm. The big fail was the Moroccan chickpea tagine. The chickpeas were dry and undercooked, and the sauce was nondescript. To her credit, my server picked up on my response that the meal was "fine" and brought Sean the owner to ask how to make things right. I decided to switch to the Cocoa Spaghetti a la Chitarra (duck spaghetti) which was quite tasty. My husband enjoyed his tuna. They have a nice wine list and our rose was solid. We were luck to get the Chef's Table where we had high top seats to ourselves with a big picture window to the kitchen. Our server, Reign, came right over to introduce herself and tell us a little about the menu. While we were deciding, she would show us what dishes were as they came out of the kitchen. She steered us to some of the best cocktails I've ever had in my life. No exaggeration. The Charlie Don't Surf, Cat's Pajamas and Margarita are not to be missed. Lots of bourbon type cocktails as well but those are not my style. We ordered the Butternut Squash Spaetzle, Meatballs in this amazing French onion purée, Triggerfish in an eggplant purée with okra, the Delmonico Ribeye, Croissant Strada and French press coffee service with chocolate covered beans and house made fancy whipped cream. Every sip and bite were better than the one before. The fish was expertly cooked with a nice crispy top. The steak was a gorgeous medium rare. Food was picture perfect. The chefs really put on a show and looked like they were having fun doing it! The kitchen was perfectly timed so food/drinks came out together. We also got our coffee a few minutes before the dessert which seems like a small thing but you'd be surprised. The owners and the chef were there making sure everything was perfect. This was one of the best meals I have ever had. We are both Gluten Free and there were some great options. We sat on the patio and it was quiet, clean and beautiful. We had a wonderful server, Rain, who knew everything about the menu, recommended fantastic cocktails (I got the watermelon margarita which was to die for) and was on her game. Appetizer- we got the crudo which was scallops. This melted in my mouth and the flavors were interesting and delicious. Main course- my boyfriend got halibut cheeks and I got the scallops and pork belly. The scallops were done PERFECTLY. And the mix of the fresh seared scallops with the Smokey pork belly was amazing. I didn't leave a spec of cream corn left and I usually hate okra, but their fried okra was soooo good. We had to get dessert since everything else was like a religious experience. We were about 3 hours out from Asheville when I started getting serious about dinner. I am really glad we found this restaurant and area of town. It was very convenient to the hotel we chose on our route through town and in an area that is clearly going through a facelift. The hostess was bubbly and welcoming. The staff was impeccable. We sat out back, as the entire interior was booked out. The outdoor patio is well appointed and comfortable. Their service all around was on point. In addition to our server, a gentleman circulated the restaurant and checked on every table regularly. This level of attention to detail reminded us of the same level of service at Michael Mina's San Francisco restaurant. The food quality, preparation and plating were all also on point and matched the same. In all it was the best meal we had on our cross country trip.
