We had Jason and his crew (three total) come - several years ago - and help with our large yard. The reason I gave him 4 stars instead of 5 is the price ($60. each) and the time it took them to weed. Their real talent is pruning and also designing. They (Jason) pruned two of our Japanese Maples and they are both still beautiful. They are show stoppers! I will have them back to do pruning but have to find a cheaper alternative for weeding. They are all really nice, fun guys and I think very creative. read more

Heads up....do not use Jason Kibbey of Kibbey Landscape Design During the Spring of 2020 we reached out to a number of landscapers to revamp our backyard. The project scope included a small hardscape patio, a small retaining wall so that the lawn area would be level, some fresh soil and plants to supplement what already existing. As we were getting ready to rent out the house, we needed this work to be completed quickly and with the minimal expense possible. We ended up selecting Jason Kibbey of Kibbey Design to prepare a sketch and submit a bid offer. Initially, at our on-site meeting Jason was very forthcoming and offered several great suggestions. A sketch was prepared and we asked that he prepare a bid. Our experience went downhill from there. There were long periods where we did not hear back from Jason and email messages where not returned. Eventually we received his bid of over $50,000 to complete this work and a multi-page contract document that was full of errors which we had to point out to him. One such error in Jason's contact document included his expired L&I insurance information. As Jason's bid broke our budget, we found someone else to do the hardscape work for a fraction of what Jason had offered. We set up an on-site meeting with both contractors where we explained the scope of work for each party and encouraged that they work together to coordinate the project schedule. Jason was amenable to this arraignment but soon was again not responsive to our phone and emails as well as the attempts by the other contractor to coordinate the project schedule. At one point, he and his crew showed up install the plant material (without speaking to us or the other contractor) and within an hour left stating that he could not install the landscaping with the hardscape still being installed. Again, his lack of communication. Once the hardscape was completed, we informed Jason and he brought his crew over to complete the installation of the landscape. Soils were not properly amended, landscape material that was to remain was relocated, and existing plant material that was not to be used was placed into the landscape. This I believe was done because Jason underestimated the quantity of landscape needed for this project. Finally, there was no final walk-through with Jason, no phone call, no email....he just left the job site and sent the invoice. In summary, I cannot recommend Jason Kibbey for any landscape residential projects. We found him to be very expensive, non-responsive to our phone and email attempts to contact him, he did not work well with the other contractor, and he did not follow planting instructions. read more

Jason is fantastic to work with, and produced a beautiful design for a significant re-landscaping of our property, dealing with several tricky sunlight and dimensions related constraints. The design he came up with (after listening carefully to our requirements, thoughts, and hopes), and produced a very impressive multi-level, multi-medium terraced hardscape design with wonderful plants throughout. His design created 3 separate beautiful areas around our house, each drawing you into the next visually with elements drawing your eye around corners. Our yard, which isn't huge and is a somewhat tight "L" shape around the two shady sides of our house (not enough sun for a lawn for example), is now a wonderful space to entertain and grill out well into the evening. Jason is very creative and was able to draw on the unique characteristics of the property instead of how some others we spoke with were proposing treating this as a cookie cutter place and applying elements that would not fit. We've also had Jason back for follow-on regular maintenance when our lives got too busy to pick things up last fall. He also was thorough in educating us about pruning schedules for our plants, but I'm sure we'll have him back to take care of things again at some point. We like to be involved in lots of details, and Jason was friendly and receptive the entire time, even though I suspect that clients like us can be tricky to work with. Jason's impressive knowledge of plants, eye and though process around design, and affordable rates make me want to recommend him to everyone I know who is looking for a landscape architect. We had Jason design and implement our full yard remodel project for us last summer, and we couldn't be happier with how it has turned out. read more

I don't usually write reviews on Yelp, but I had such a good experience working with Jason that I thought I should spread the word. First of all he's very professional and easy to work with-- he does a great job of keeping you updated and connected during the process. He created a killer design that turned our mud pit of a backyard into an oasis for my wife, myself, and our 2 year old daughter. Our yard seriously feels about 10x bigger. I could tell that Jason put a lot of thought in to the process. He helped us choose an awesome fence and made small adjustments along the way that really turned out well. I initially contacted Jason to help me come up with a garden design for my rental property in Seattle. I had a large lot that had a mix of mature plants and large areas with no plants that constantly needed weeding. From the beginning Jason made it clear that he fully understood the concerns that I had and provided me with many options as to what could work for the spaces we were working with. He came up with an impressive list of drought tolerant, low maintenance plants to fill in the bare areas and an overall design that tied the mature plants in with the new plants. He showed me photos of what the new plants would look like at various times of the year and at various stages of maturity. He was completely transparent about costs and there were no surprises as a result. He came in well under my original budget and was also helpful in suggesting areas where we could reduce costs further. We were able to reallocate that part of the budget to lay down mulch (to suppress the weeds) and to dethatch and aerate the existing lawn. He hauled away all the excess branches that were pruned leaving a very clean and tidy site at the end. I'm so happy with the end result and will continue to use Jason for annual maintenance. My tenants are also very happy with the landscaping and the fact that they do not have to constantly water and weed the garden. I would recommend Jason to anyone looking for a great practical design that will not break the bank. read more
