Cute place but employees were EXTREMELY snotty and rude. While on "vacation" from Indiana to come visit my sick aunt. We didn't know we weren't allowed to sit in their outdoor seating area and as we were out there discussing my dying aunts funeral arrangements, a young girl came out with her turned up nose telling us we couldn't sit there and as we, as Midwesterners, we very apologetic and she continued to have a disgusted look on her face and be nasty. That's not how we treat people in Indiana. So much for "southern hospitality". Will never set foot in Java Java. read more

By no means is this one of the world's great coffee shops, but the coffee here is far superior to the coffee served at the coffee bar in the Sanctuary. Enough so that it is worth the drive here from the Sanctuary in the morning if you are a coffee lover (or addict). read more

The baristas at this place make excellent lattes. We were here twice this weekend at different times/different baristas and we liked our drinks both times. (We like strong coffee so if you prefer weaker brew your opinion may differ.) The muffins had tender crumb and nice flavor. We did not experience the long waits other reviewers noted but we're visiting in the off season. read more

Looks great, comfortable coffee shop in a nice location. The pastries and sandwiches all looked delicious. But if coffee is your primary business then the coffee should be good. We ordered a Cortado but what was served was a scalding hot, weak coffee with too much milk and foam on top. I ordered a small double latte and it was indistinguishable from the cortado. The coffee was too bitter - there can be several reasons for this, but often it is the water/milk being used is too hot or the brewing machinery hasn't been cleaned properly. I confess I am a coffee lover, and very particular about it, but I personally wouldn't go here again and I couldn't recommend it based on my experience. Java Java is a really cute coffee shop. They offer coffee, pastries, and breakfast!! For a coffee shop, that is really impressive. When I first found out about Java I was curious to see how their coffee drinks taste; and wow, was I surprised. There coffee drinks are DELICIOUS! Sometimes they get a lot of drink orders and you have to wait a little bit, but honestly the drinks are worth the wait. Not gonna lie, I'm a little picky about what I like to eat; however, they did an amazing job accommodating me! There food is so tasty and wonderful!! I get breakfast at Java Java like once a week and they never cease to amaze me. Even though there food is absolutely delicious I try to keep in mind they are a coffee shop and not a five star restaurant. The only reason I'm giving a three star review is because they accidentally messed up a food order once, but they were super busy and offered to refund or remake my sandwich. Great breakfast and sandwich shop. We went in for lunch. We had the turkey, Brie and cranberry mayo sandwich. Delicious. Another diner had the BLT with lots of avocado. The coffee and smoothies were also a hit. It's a bit pricy, but typical for a resort. We would return again. read more

I was confused by the service setup. My meal was delivered to the table, but I was supposed to wait for my drink at the bar. I ordered a cold soy latte and received a hot one. I was craving eggs so I ordered a panini. I was underwhelmed by the cracker thin bread. You definitely needed to keep the paper wrapper on to avoid making a mess. My review is very similar to the others. I've been coming here for years and the service and quality of food has been going down hill ever since. Previously if I ordered the quiche, it was homemade and came with fruit. Now if you ask for quiche, you will basically get a very small slice of pre-made, boxed 'stuff' with nothing else. As far as the coffee, even that has changed too. Good news, we were told there were new owners and they have definitely remodeled so it looks updated. However... like everyone else has commented, the young girls who work there could care less about serving you or offering any kind of customer service. They are terrible and grungy looking. For Pete's safe, brush your hair and put on some clean clothes! PS: if another coffee shop opened with great service and good quality food/drinks, it wood put this one out of business for sure! read more

The coffee and food was good, but...the service was AWFUL. We waited nearly 30 mins for to go orders on a really simple sandwich order and a cup of soup. I don't know why I keep going back to this place other than convenience, because I am always disappointed. The young kids that work there always seem like they have a thousand other things they would rather be doing than to take your order or prepare your food. Today was no exception. I went to pick up food to go for 2 people; simple. Two sandwiches and two drinks. I ordered a hot tea; earl grey specifically. The girl indicated she could give me the hot water and I could get the tea pods over by the coffee bar. Ok. I get over there; nothing close to earl grey is an option. Some odd mint flavored, passion flavored, and green tea. Nothing closely resembling a breakfast tea. Inquired if they had any in the back. Nope ... and kept right on working as if I was bothering her. As I prepare to leave the tea cup is so hot I can't carry it so I asked for a drink carrier. Out of those ... not their problem, yours. My 2 sandwiches took a solid 30 minutes to make. I will do my best NOT TO GO BACK!!! EVER ... AGAIN! read more

This place has the BEST iced coffee I've ever had. We had many versions, iced latte's, iced Java Java Mocha (combo of caramel and chocolate), iced Mocha too. They use a cold espresso and it's amazing. They also have wonderful breakfast fare - quiche, panini's, muffins - all tasty. The service is very good too. read more

I've lived in Kiawah Island for 8 years, I've been to it many times when I come on vacation. The coffee is better then Starbucks, and their other frozen drinks are very good to. Their sandwiches are pretty good, service is on and off sometimes their really nice some times they just ignore you. But I really like this place and it's a lot better then Starbucks. And their Frozen Vanilla creme is amazing best drink there. Trust me get the frozen vanilla creme! read more

Have been making Java Java a destination for paninis each time we travel to Kiawah. In fact, when we have an early flight, we stop in for one last fix. Imagine our disappointment when we ordered our paninis ($31 for 3 with one iced coffee) and were told they could not put salt, pepper and ketchup on them. What? Really? OK, so they will bring ketchup, right? Only after I asked a very unhappy server AGAIN who handed me a thimble full for the three of us. We were disappointed to find they discontinued the slice of muffin and wedge of fruit that rounded out the panini meal. Paninis themselves were mediocre and probably tasted worse due to the cost, weak service and overall frustrating experience. They lost us as customers especially since the other reviews give me little hope that this was a one time event. read more

I hope they read the reviews and will improve. This could be a wonderful place to eat lunch, but every time I've been here (conservatively, 8 times), my lunch order has been messed up or the service has been s l o w as molasses. Example: I ask for tuna salad or chicken salad with no extra mayo (on the bread), and it arrives with extra mayo on the bread. I've had so many negative experiences with food orders at Java Java that I choose another place over it -- even the drugstore counter at nearby Vincent's is more reliable and consistent. My husband loves Java Java's frozen coffee drinks, though, so that's something positive. read more

I LOVE the frozen Java mocha when it is done correctly. It beats any Starbucks drink, hands down. HOWEVER, the quality here is soo very inconsistent & when it isn't good, it's bad. I'd rather go to the Starbucks next door where I know the quality will be consistent. We had a horrible experience Friday night. While the green at Freshfields Village was packed for music on the green Java Java was empty. I know why! First I tried to order a grilled sandwich and was told that they had no grill. Then it took 15 minutes (I was the only one in the store at 6pm) to get the wimpiest and most expensive tuna salad and chicken salad sandwiches. There was no mayo or butter, they were small with limited filling and for two sandwiches there was only one piece of fruit and one piece of sweet. That was at a cost of over $9 each. Friendly staff, great coffee, but they seemed very understaffed for all the work they were doing. The girl with glasses who helped me at the register was very helpful and apologetic about my wait time. I had to wait an unreasonably long amount of time for my Chai Latte. It took upwards of 15 minutes. The whole stuff just seemed very swamped with the amount of customers in the store. I would suggest that management get more workers in for the high traffic hours of service. I bet it would improve their customer service and their wait times. I would easily have rated 5 stars because the staff that I encountered were very nice and friendly. read more

I love this place!!!! Java Java not only makes my morning coffee better with the amazing service and wonderful people working there, but they also make the best bacon, egg and cheese breakfast sandy on GLUTEN FREE BREAD. We're from Boston, so it's easy to get GF anywhere but since we've moved down it's been hard to find GF that doesn't taste like cardboard - Java Java has done their research for sure on the best GF bread, bagels, muffins AND desserts. For a small local coffee shop they really outdo themselves with pleasing the customers and offering a huge variety of delicious coffees and food items. Let me just add it's not just the classic sandy that's the best but also tons of other options on their perfectly curated chalkboard menu. From their green goddess smoothie or their sausage, avocado and cream cheese bagel, to their cold press or red eye coffee, it's easy to make a right decision to happily fill one's belly! AND besides the delicious food, you can tell how much work the owner has put into all the tiny details from the glass cabinets to the coffee cups. Like I said, it makes my morning better knowing I get to enjoy some of the best food on the island made my people that really care about their business and customers.
