I stopped in with a friend after a pedicure and a grocery store run (all in the same shopping center) and got myself a delicious oat milk latte and a blueberry muffin. My friend got a sandwich and although I didn't try it, she said she wished we could come back here every single day of our trip so she could try more of the menu. So that is a pretty solid testament! We loved the are and if we were around for a longer trip, this would be a frequent stop for any and all coffee/quick bite needs. Fun coffee shops in Freshfields Village. Parking is a little tough right in front but you can find parking in the area within a 2-min walk. The location is convenient if you are coming or going from Seabrook or Kiawah Island! We got breakfast to go on our way out of town. I had a breakfast sandwich with pimento cheese on a bagel. It was really cheesy and the bagel was soft and there were a ton of caramelized onions on it; I like caramelized onions, but it definitely dominated the flavor. The blueberry muffin had a crispy top with turbinado style sugar and great flavor. The chocolate chip scone had good flavor but the texture was very dry and almost too crumbly to eat. read more

Local and frequent visitor. However will not return. The kitchen messed up our order and left out a breakfast sandwich. When I went in to let them know, instead of being apologetic, the kitchen manager, Madison, told me that I must be mistaken. She asked to see my bag. We walked out to our table to show her the bag and prove that we were not fabricating the missing food item. At no time did she nor the owner acknowledge the mistake or apologize for calling me out in front of all of the cafe's customers. I would say this shop is nice and is always busy. It is centrally located in Kiawah Island Freshfield Village. The coffee is good. Indoor and outdoor seating. The service is a hit or miss. It seems to be employed by young college students. Some are very nice, but some are a little stand-off-ish, rushed, and rude. I've had varied experiences. I think it's great that there are more options for coffee on Kiawah Island for coffee now. You get a better comparison of services and offerings. I recommend trying all. read more

This is the typical coffee shop at Kiawah Island: untrained or careless baristas that don't know the proper technique to produce micro-foam at all. I had the fluffiest, frothy, burnt tasting cappuccino that I think even Starbucks could make better this morning. I was asked what size cappuccino I wanted and immediately knew I was in for a bad experience since any decent coffee shop should only offer 6oz cappuccinos. Coffee and breakfast this morning because no one wanted to cook and the coffee machine made some "interesting" brown liquid. We headed to Java Java as the best coffee shop in the area. I think it's also the only in the area, but never mind that. A short queue to place our orders. Printed menus and one up on the wall as well. The restaurant was busy but a table opened up at the right time and we were able to enjoy air conditioning rather than outside. Coffee was good. A single origin Honduran was rich and full of caffeine. I chose the lox bagel which was okay. A plain bagel with some red onion, scallion cream cheese and a few slices of salmon that was all put into a panini press. Tasty and good enough for breakfast in the South. However, their online ordering often is not available during their limited store hours (7 AM - 3 PM). I like their cold brew with lavender syrup. I have stopped ordering any iced lattes/coffees, as even an order of "light ice" yields a ton of ice. A large is a competitor's medium (for even greater cost). You'll get way more ice than coffee. This place is simply perfect, by far my favorite cafe over the course of the past few years- calm ambiance with tasteful mood music, comfortable sink-into arm chairs that make for great reading nooks, fantastic chocolate chip cookies, and creative, flavorful sandwiches. The cookie tasted like it dropped out of heaven with a caramel aftertaste, crispy and buttery texture - and the best part: not too sweet. I tried the autumn sandwich with crunchy tart apple grilled with cheese; the prosciutto and fig panini was also superb in balancing flavors. My toddler devoured a donut - and based on the one bite she permitted me to take, I can see why she wasn't keen on sharing. Will make a point of eating here any time I'm visiting Kiawah! read more

I came to Java Java for the first time on March 1. I was staying in the resort and only had about a half a day before I was leaving. I thought I would come here and get the family some bagels for breakfast. I put an order in for four plain bagels and one everything bagel and two blueberry muffins and a pop tart. I was told that the bill was $37.96. I thought it was strange that the person waiting on me use the calculator to figure out the $2.04 change from the $40 I gave her phone. I thought the price for what I bought was very high but when I got home I thought it was even higher. I open the bag and found out that instead of foreplane Nj1 everything she gave me for everything and no blueberry muffins not a one the pop tart was there, but nobody ever ate it, they tried it but didn't like it. How can you make a mistake and put four of the wrong bagels and a bag when they're supposed to be five and no blueberries. So you see the 3796 was very very high for what I got, I didn't have time to go back and correct this something told me that person I dealt with wouldn't even remember what I got. I think they get a lot of people that are one timers come in buy something to leave. I didn't find the staff to be very friendly at all. I think their smile muscles must've been broken so we ended up getting 4/2 bagel and four2 plain bagel since everything was only on the top. At Java Java the coffee tastes like water & the customer is always wrong. Visiting from out of town with a group of friends. We spent $55 on 8 coffees (lattes & a cold brew). The cashier told me that they used their cold brew instead of espresso in the lattes, because the cold brew was so strong. I ordered one with a splash of almond milk. Let me tell you, I was so looking forward to having it! I love a good strong coffee and when you drop $$$, you think it's going to be amazing. It came out about 3/4 full, and I commented that I didn't need that much room- and the barista offered to give me more ice, but not coffee. I accepted the ice. When I tried it, it was so watered down, my friends noticed their the lattes were 98% milk, in taste & color (they were stark white.) The barista was extremely rude when we asked if they could be stronger. She showed said if we wanted extra shots, we would have to pay for them. We decide to leave and as we were walking out she yelled after us, "front back or side,ladies." Good thing there were 3 ways to exit because we could get out of their fast enough. read more
