I ordered an Almond Milk Latte. The coffee was Ok. Though the service was very slow. The lady on the counter had to confirm 3 times for my order. She kept getting it wrong. Then the service was slow. The sitting area is also limited and they have wooden chairs and benches (not too comfortable). The interior was good though! But then I came here only once. I came across Java Loco while searching for apartments in the area. It's a semi hole in the wall kind of place. Decorated with modern touches that I enjoy to give it a hip feel. We're talking brick on the wall, hardwood, and interesting furniture selection. They have a good selection of coffee, drinks, and food. Today I only got some coffee. Iced red eye double shot. Black eye maybe it's called with 2 shots? Anyway, the drink was excellent and just what I needed on a hot day. The staff was very friendly and answered all of my questions accordingly. I love this place! I don't get here very often, but every time I come, I leave happy! I'm more of a tea drinker than a coffee drinker and their tea is really good. They just added bubble tea to the menu and snow cream is soon to come. The bubbles are smaller than I am used to, but the tea was spot on! We had the black milk tea and the Assam milk tea. So glad to have FINALLY had an opportunity to stop into my local coffee shop, because this place is awesome! I agree with a lot of my fellow Yelpers, this is a hidden gem in an area of Alexandria that really could use some great coffee shops. And here you have it - great coffee and sandwiches with great ambiance. It really is the cutest decor and it really does feel like you're in Old Town or Clarendon (for a moment, I thought I was back in the SF Bay area) - thanks for making my neighborhood feel a lot more quaint! The coffee was amazing - hands down, the best caramel macchiato in town. No bitter aftertaste, just smooth coffee. As for lunch, I had the Gouda Gobbler - a very yummy sandwich, and a healthy sized portion. I look forward to coming back for gelato and to try out the other sandwich and coffee options - I noticed after I placed my order that they have at least 10 varieties of caramel machiatto - crazy! I had the iced soy mocha and it was delicious! I also had their cheese bread. I actually believe it's called pandebono, which is Columbian cheese bread folded into the flour. I like how they have such a unique drink menu. I am a new fan:)! read more

Omg, such an unassuming place, but what great boba!! I haven't had boba this good outside of SoCal. I was a bit nervous when I walked in because there was only one other customer. A lot of places with low traffic often end up serving stale boba, but not here. Their boba was perfect. These guys really know how to make an espresso/cappuccino/latte! I mean that literally. My husband has been trained as a barista, and I never understood before I met him the difference between the bubbly milk foam and the super-creamy milk foam that is supposed to be a hallmark of a proper cappuccino. I never understood that a good espresso made with good beans properly roasted and not stale, will not be bitter, astringent, and unpleasant but acidic, bracing, and rich. Upon entry, it's overwhelming with a giant chalkboard of drink options. If you don't like coffee, but love coffee shops, there are plenty of options for you here. But even better, if you DO love coffee, and you are sad that ME Swings, or Slipstream are too far to go during the week, THIS is your new everyday coffee shop. These guys really care about what they make, are properly trained and friendly. For something unique, try the horchata latte, or any of their special drinks that come around seasonally. Their sandwiches are good quality, breakfast and lunch, and better than average for a 'coffee shop deli'. But the coffee is the real star here, so look past the crowded counter and all the snacks and flavors, and start with something simple before you jump into dressing it up too much. read more

It is a hidden gem. I have been living in the area since 2014 and have never been to Java Loco. I ordered a Pistachio Latte and it was amazing. They also have pastries and ice cream, which I can't wait to try everything there. This is going to be my new favorite cafe in the area. read more

This place is the best coffee shop I've been to. They really brew their coffee with great care and it's a very cozy atmosphere inside -- lots of people actually come here to work on their laptops over the weekend and on weeknights. I'm submitting another review of this place because my service there was so bad. They refused to make my drink because I asked them to wash the blender out before making my smoothie due to a banana allergy. Other employees had done that for me that very same week, which is why I decided to come back multiple times. But this group didn't even offer a solution, they just flat out refused to make my drink and told me it was an issue for the manager. The manager was "not there" and they said he was only there in the morning and there's no contact info on the website or online at all. The whole experience felt discriminatory and I've made sure to tell everyone not to go there. It's a simple request that literally any coffee or tea shop could do. Just use another blender or wash it out. It's not rocket science. read more

If this was closer I would go twice a day. I get the peach green tea with boba. It is the bomb diggity! Staff is friendly and professional. They all multi task well and do it with a smile. I quite enjoy the drinks and gelato from this coffee and gelato shop. And no, I have not tried the other food items, so my review will not be wrongfully skewed. I've had a few lattes and specialty drinks here. They were made well, in my opinion, because they tasted good and were hot. The flavorings weren't too strong or overly sweet. The gelato was alright and a good cure for a warm day. The people working here are nice and timid. The place itself is clean. There are a few tables and a counter with stools against the window. I wish the stools weren't nailed to the ground and that they had a place for my feet to rest. The tables are always taken when I stop by here, so typically, I am forced to sit at this counter, slightly uncomfortably. Prices are okay for a local coffee place. Outside, you will find a board with featured flavors/options. In the past, I've seen lavender and taro. I wish they were posted inside too! By the time I had read through the inside menu, I had forgotten the specials! When I left, I realized I had wanted something on that board instead of the standard menu. Bottom line: While there are minor details I would like to be improved, the point here is that this place makes good drinks. That's all you really need to know. read more

My one suggestion to this amazing little gelato and sandwich coffee shop (and I'll put it in the first line so it gets seen) is to amp up the tea selection with more than just Tazo/Starbucks teas and generic grocery teas. More herbal options would be nice, and high-quality brands like two leaves and a bud, or Queens' Tea or others would be fantastic as they are lesser known, but great for indy cafes. Otherwise, the decor is fantastic, the owner, his wife, and their staff are truly enjoyable to mingle with, and there is free Wifi so what's not to love?! With Boar's Head meats for their hand-made, made-to-order deli sandwiches, and wide selection of snack foods, it's a great lunch spot as well. Really, it's a much needed cafe in an otherwise dull part of town, and you can get a Coke should you fancy as well, something you can't do at any old Starbucks. read more

This cafe shop is located in a plaza right across from BJs. I thought it was an awkward spot for the business because not a lot of people would notice that there's a coffee/cafe shop there. I've only had iced black coffee at this place, and the coffee itself was pretty good (and average pricing as well). I ordered one of their turkey sandwich, and boy did they put a lot of turkey on that sandwich! I thought it was a decent typical American sandwich, but the pricing of the sandwich was a tad too expensive. I would still recommend this place if you're looking for a study spot with free parking. read more

Just stopped in for the first time and had a very pleasant experience. Upon arrival a gentleman appeared from the back and greeted us warmly. How nice! We ordered two Gouda Gobbler sandwiches which includes a bag of chips for $7.99 along with a small black coffee for $1.95 and a small vanilla latte for $3.60. They have several bread options for sandwiches. When I asked what they recommend for bread he said the ciabatta. Great idea! It was soft and thinner than I thought, which was perfect! The bread was also slightly crispy on the edges and complimented the sandwich which comes with mayo and Dijon mustard. Yummy combo actually. When we went to pick out our chips, the lady in the kitchen area chatted with us and we updated and confirmed our sandwiches. She was quite warm and friendly. The coffee and latte were delicious too and while the place is cozy, the atmosphere is nice. Upon leaving the two staff were seated at a table and greeted us goodbye and asked how we liked it. We appreciated the attention and said we enjoyed it very much and will be back. My only negative thoughts were: the music was a bit odd and there are way too many signs everywhere, especially on the windows which blocks the sunlight coming in, and a lot are repetitive and between the signs and menu there are a lot of misspellings. They do offer a crap ton of flavor options for every drink imaginable as they are just trying to make you aware of them. Other than that, which is no biggie, we will surely return often. Can't wait to try the gelato. I've got my eye on pistachio and tiramisu. read more

This is my favorite study spot hands down. Always an open seat, great music, friendly staff, and an ENORMOUS drink selection. I love that it's family run--you can tell they take pride in their business. Also, love the chalk board wall in the back that leads to the bathroom, which is always immaculate. Mad props for that because Lord knows Starbucks and Panera bathrooms are legitimately disgusting. Update: seriously this place is the best. They will remake any drink free of charge even if you were the one making a mistake ordering the drink. Best coffee shop in the area, hands down. read more

Plenty of parking in a very convenient location. Went there specifically to try their bubble tea on a Saturday evening for the first time after reviewing their Yelp reviews. Very nice indoor and sidewalk seatings with excellent service. Bought two bubble teas, Oreo-flavored and caramel, and both were awesome! We will definitely be back (in about a week). ;) read more

I think the 'teaspresso' name is a bit misleading because I thought it would be the type they brew to order, but she just poured it from a concoction they have already mixed in a jug. Really good coffee but there is no social distancing or reinforcement of masks. All tables were full in a very small space and customers sat one foot away from the other.
