Went in for coffee and a snack around 4pm. Ended up ordering a cappuccino with oat milk and a breakfast croissant with egg and avocado. Was super excited they served a vegetarian breakfast sandwich all day as none of their other sandwiches were veggie. All good. Set up my laptop to do some work. The drink and sandwich came quickly. The sandwich was really terrific, warm and full of freshness, and there were condiments galore available if you wanted them. What dropped the visit was the lack of general awareness from the people running the store. Someone came to do deliveries (dad?) and they propped the door open to unload their van. They slowly moved things armful by armful - ok I get it, it's probably a family business, and it's hard work. Leave the door propped open. Gusts of cold wind were coming in and blowing so hard even the gals behind the counter would look over at the door open. I ignored it and went back to my laptop. It was open a while. After a bit I didn't see anyone going in and out, but the door was still open. Now other patrons were glancing at the door as they were getting blasted by the "feels like 21" wind. A little while later the guy who was bringing in items emerged from the kitchen, said goodbye to the people working there (his kids?) and walked out, closing the door behind him. Ok so we froze for no reason as he was done moving stuff but left the door wide open when talking with the staff. For a while. After that I couldn't get comfortable again. I noticed that they were not busy for a spell but one of the gals behind the counter played on her phone rather than cleaned up the spills on the counter or swept the floor. Those small quick things would have improved the inside greatly. Again I get it, this is hard repetitive work, but the awareness was lacking. The food and drink were not good enough to make up for this. I personally doubt I'll be back. read more

Super quaint! I needed somewhere to hang out for a bit while I got my truck serviced and this gem was in the same shopping center I ordered a Rose Imperial with Oat Milk and fell in love! Recently I noticed that they sell biscoff lattes and omg they are delicious, not too sweet but super strong. The place is quiet for people that want to go out for a coffee. They also sell boba which I've had both their peach green tea and passion fruit and haven't disappointed. My wife and I came here after our morning walk and were pleasantly surprised by this quaint spot. We grabbed some breakfast and coffee and loved it right away. She loved her iced latte and ate her cream cheese bagel while I demolished my turkey egg and cheese sandwich. It was pretty goood too! We may have found our new local coffee spot !!! We will certainly be back. Overall, loved the food. Service was fast and quick. The decor with the faux flowers along the walls and lavender theme in the back seating area was a nice touch. Plenty of people came after we prepared to leave with laptops and books in tow. Definitely a chill, low noise, work ready environment with calming music playing in the background. I actually like the red eye for a stronger coffee taste - they add a fresh shot of espresso to the Vietnamese coffee. There is a lot of seating, parking and it's clean. The service is quick and efficient as well. However their food isn't always fresh (particularly the lox bagel which just wasn't appetizing) and the prices are a bit high, so I only come here once in a while for coffee. read more

While their Chai latte was okay, it could have been served piping hot - not sure if they have to re-calibrate their machines or something, but not sure how coffee can be served anything but? In addition, the staff here are not the friendliest - is it that hard to be dressed in a smile? No need to make your patrons feels uncomfortable by giving off negative vibes... Took my 8 yo niece who was visiting and we tried to replicate a drink that she was comfortable with and enjoyed at her local boba spot but after we received the drink, she mentioned that hers was more icy (blended). So although the vibe inside is very cool it felt a little unfriendly, several tables were dirty, coffee station was dirty, and outside tables were in complete disarray. Still all of that can be a disaster as long as the food is good. If I were to visit Alexandria again, I'd try this place again just to see if I caught them on an off-day. Like everywhere else with new hires, it took a little while for Java Loco to find its stride, but I've come here enough times to see quick improvements. On my last visit, it took hardly any time at all for the barista to make my Thai Bubble Tea. Unless you have a serious sweet tooth, I recommend ordering your milk teas at half-sweet strength. The staff have always been cheery and greet me immediately. Newer hires take about five minutes to make bubble teas, but the quality is consistent. There have been a couple times that the store ran out of bubbles in the evening hours, so I opted for jelly instead. This is probably due to figuring out the right stocking quantity as a newer business and coming out of the pandemic. Either way, it hasn't happened again in several month. The space is also cheerful with lots of light (the store in on a corner lot) and several tables. Besides teas, they also serve coffee and have scrumptious looking baked goods. My taro tea was tasty! I loved the sweetness and balance of flavor of the beverage . I also tried the mango bubble tea and it too was top notch! Staff was friendly and helpful. I loved how clean and organized the space was. They had creative menus and plenty of utensils and napkins out to use. Decor is gorgeous, they have purple wisteria hanging from the ceilings. I love how the flowers add to this beautiful space to chill and relax. Parking was easy as Java Loco is located at the corner of the shopping center on Richmond Highway. Their drinks are decent but overpriced. They charge about $1 extra for less ice in any iced drink, despite the menu listing a set price for a 16 oz drink. Requesting less ice shouldn't increase the cost since I'm not asking for more coffee or a larger size--just the advertised 16 oz. This deceptive practice, coupled with not informing customers about the upcharge until questioned, creates a poor experience. I hope enough complaints will push them to end this policy. read more

Java Loco is a local chain of 4 shops owned by Nga Ho. Two shops are located in Falls Church and two shops are located in Alexandria. This store opened on June 25, 2021. They sell coffee drinks (hot and cold), teas (hot and cold), boba teas, smoothies, slushes, canned sodas, bottled juices, bottled water, sandwiches, and pastries. The choices of sandwiches and pastries are small. My wife and I visited almost 2 years ago. There's just too many boba tea places to visit. We got 2 cold fruit tea drinks. 1) Golden Dream with mango jelly Mango and passionfruit flavored jasmine tea with chunks of mango jelly. The green tea that they used was slightly bitter and left a dry mouth feel. That was a big no no for me. The tea was brewed from tea leaves, so they should steep it for a shorter time to lessen the bitterness and possibly the dryness. I am assuming that the tea leaves are of good quality. The fruit flavors were good in the tea and jelly, but the jasmine tea was the predominant flavor. 6 out of 9 fruit teas that they sell is based on jasmine tea. So, fixing the tea is important. 2) Guava cooler with lychee jelly Pineapple, red guava, and mango flavored jasmine tea with lychee jelly. It had the same problematic jasmine tea as the Golden Dream. The jasmine tea was the predominant flavor again. The fruit flavor was mostly mango with a good lychee flavor when you eat the jelly. Can't say that I was loving this either. The service was quick and polite. The store and dining areas were clean. They have 2 restrooms. There were 18 chairs with tables and 5 countertop seats in the front section of the dining room. There were more tables and chairs in the back section of the shop. They have outdoor seating with tables. They are located in a shopping center and parking is free. We haven't given up on this shop. Java Loco popped up as a coffee place near the dog park and it was a match made in Heaven! This is not just a coffee house, they have a wide variety of coffee, tea, bubble tea, and smoothies! They also have some food, especially breakfast to choose from. It's honestly impossible not to find something you like. I went with the Java chiller, which is like a frapp blending mocha and white mocha. That was the perfect coffee milkshake situation for me. So creamy and had a nice coffee zing to it. I also got to try out a white mocha latte with soy milk, and that was delicious as well. I didn't get a sip but I heard good things about the caramel macchiato too. It's also worth mentioning how CLEAN that place was. It was spotless. Like noticeably so clean you could eat off the floor kinda clean. My OCD was at last put to rest and I reach a new state of calm. Had a business meeting at 9am, the lady took our orders (3), and never once smiled. At least the breakfast croissant was tasty! I asked for Splenda in my americano and she pointed where I could help myself...although real coffee places do it for you. Once I added the cold cream, my coffee was lukewarm so I didn't finish it..the cups are flimsy so they don't hold heat well. Need a quick afternoon pick-me-up, found this coffee and bubble tea shop on rt. 1. It's in a shopping center, so you kinda gotta drive around to find it. Once inside, you have a pretty good size menu to pick hot drinks or cold drinks. I choose a cappuccino, my only issue was that there was too much milk added. I got their matcha milk bubble tea from here and it was amazing! Usually not well known brands do bubble tea very bad, but the boba here was perfectly chewy and sweet. The matcha milk itself was a litttle bit too sweet, so maybe next time i'll ask for less sweetness. My favorite place to go for boba is Kung Fu Tea and Gongcha but it's hard to find places like that near me. I give java loco a 9.5/10!
