    Vanilla Latte
    John S.

After an eye doctor appointment, we stopped by Java Nation and had an outstanding meal. I enjoyed the vanilla latte, hearty beef stew, and fresh salad, while my wife had the burger and lentil soup--everything was delicious. The food was flavorful, the quality was excellent, the service was friendly and attentive, and the cozy atmosphere made it a place we'll definitely be back to visit.

Cheeseburger Cheeseburger Recently friend/I stopped for a quick catch up/meal-Java Nation@North Bethesda. Busy day-we scored a table! I tried the cheeseburger w/potato chips. Generous sandwich, great smokey rich beef flavor. Tasty Mocha too. My friend enjoyed her mini banana bread & decaf latte. Prompt courteous customer service. See Photos!

A last-minute Sunday brunch with friends at Java Nation, and we settled in for our usual beet salad, and this time I got the blackened shrimp tacos - perfectly plump shrimp with cole slaw, radishes and tomatoes. We also shared a crab dip with a sliced baguette to share, and mushroom ravioli with spinach. Java Nation is a Montgomery County hidden gem, serving up great food in a totally relaxed and casual atmosphere. Is it a coffee shop, a smoothie joint, a bakery, or a bistro? I guess the answer is Yes to all the above. If you haven't tried Java Nation yet, you're missing out!

I finally visited Java Nation! I have a friend who works nearby and we've been long overdue for a catch up. We wanted to go to a new (to us) happy hour, and this was the place he chose. They have happy hour until 6:30 for certain food and drinks. I arrived first, went inside and was greeted by the strong smell of coffee. It's definitely a coffee spot! But they have a full menu, cocktail bar, and scrumptious desserts on display. I saw there was an outdoor area that's probably heated, but I was staying inside where it was cozy. The bar is small and was full at the time so I grabbed a seat at the long high table nearby. Someone came to me almost immediately after sitting down to bring menus. And then about 5 minutes later someone brought water, and then another 5 someone came to take my order. I wasn't ready yet, so I looked over the menu. I knew I was getting the margarita flight, no question. The flight has 4, and they have 4 types of margaritas, easy! Classic, pineapple infused basil, spicy watermelon, and mango passionfruit. You have an option to swap a margarita for their red sangria, which is cool too. When my friend came and we ordered that, we swapped the classic for that. For food we got the margherita flatbread and corn ribs. Let's dive in... Corn ribs: they literally looked like ribs, but made of corn... AWESOME! Loved the aioli that came with them and the seasoning and flavors were on point. Margherita flatbread: loved the sauce, cheese, and crust. Literally zero complaints here and would get it again. Margarita flight: ranked, my favorites were the basil, mango, watermelon, and sangria. The basil was just so pleasant... the mango too, but not quite as much. The spicy watermelon was... REALLY spicy. The best word my friend and I came up with was sharp... it was so sharp! The sangria had a different taste to it... not a bad one, but it just wasn't my favorite. But overall, every drink was great! This was a cool first experience of Java Nation... did I mention the presentation of the food was REALLY nice? Especially the corn ribs. They have a bunch of other dishes on their main menu that seem surprisingly upscale for a cafe. I can't wait to explore more of the menu to check these things out. Oh, the service was a bit inconsistent, I will admit, but everyone was nice and I'd definitely come back.

Went here a little while ago. Their lox bagel was incredible, and the pickled onions and dill were a really nice addition to their already very flavorful bagel and smoked salmon.

I was not expecting this. I went as part of my Maryland cafe passport and this one blew me away. With Java nation having so many locations I was expecting Starbucks type quality, but it was such good coffee. Probably one of the best I've had in Maryland and I am an avid coffee drinker. The food was amazing too. The Latin fusion was quality of Latin food you can't regularly find and it was just a fun menu. The restaurant as a whole was welcoming and somewhere you'd want to hang out too. I can't even dream up a better coffee shop.

    Honey Coconut Cloud Matcha

Super cute place I appreciate the vibes in general. I like how it's cocktails and food and coffee and pastry. The honey coconut cloud matcha was honestly pretty good! A little expensive but somehow worth it :) good blend of flavors. Not the biggest fan of the default to tip or the music. Also the floor vibrates from either the blender or something. That's really random and weird to mention but it made my feet feel a little weird lol. I was here for a study session and it was ok but I wouldn't come back for that. I would potentially come back again though and try the food or pastry. Seems like a cool place to hang out with friends. There's also parking so that's nice. The bathrooms are nice, clean, and smell good.

Came to try Java Nation on Thanksgiving morning and was disappointed. I wanted to try their seasonal salted maple matcha but after ordering they informed me they were out of the syrup, so I settled for a regular vanilla matcha. The matcha was very very watery, as if the ice had already been melted in it, but that wasn't the case. The matcha flavor was faint and underwhelming. I was extremely disappointed in this drink. I also ordered the spinach and feta crossiant which was good. Nothing spectacular but it was a solid crossiant. I do want to go back and try their actual food and maybe a coffee next time but as for their matcha, it was not a hit for me. It's a good place tucked away that was surprisingly packed.

I was looking for a cool place to hangout that isn't a bar, and I fou.... Oh wait...it's also a bar. This spot had been on my radar for a minute, but being that it's a little out of my walking range, I hadn't tried it yet - until today. Plenty of parking, which is great. And plenty of room to spread out inside. They have communal seating, and also tables inside and out. You can bring book, or a laptop...the space would definitely work for a casual meeting. and lest you think it's only coffee they have a full bar - incase you need a half-snoot-full at 2 PM. To eat I had a lox bagel (I'm a sucker for smoked salmon). They pickled their red onions. A departure from tradition, but a welcome one, nonetheless. The acid really brightened up the cream cheese, and tempered the salt. Nice move! The menu is fairly expansive for a "coffee joint". Which brings me to my last point... Java Nation is clearly trying to be more than a small coffee house. They have good food, coffee, and wine on offer. They make the short 4 mile drive out of downtown Bethesda kind of worth it. I'll definitely be back. Maybe I'll se ya there!

    Hearty Beef Stew

I love this place. I've been here like 2/3 times already and I keep coming back. If you're looking for something hearty get the beef stew. If you looking for something warm get the lentil soup. If you looking for something filling get the half chicken. If you looking for something fresh and healthy but filling get the honey pear beet salad. I mean you really can't go wrong here! Hands down I love it here

Wonderful place! I ordered the ethopian pour over lot #6, fantastic taste and bold flavors! My friend ordered a cappuccino and it was also fantastic! Service was quick and pleasant amd we will return. Parking is a little tricky on a bust day though so prepare for that.

I visited Java Nation because I thought it was a coffee shop. Upon arrival the restaurant/cafe was bustling. With two areas for seating and a bar. The acoustics in this are not conducive if you want to do any work. I was seated at the bar and between people enjoying catching up with friends for lunch and the orders being yelled I honestly couldn't stand it. On top of that there were only two places to plug anything in. I had to ask if I could unplug the lights at the bar in order to charge my laptop. When I asked if the outdoor patio area might be less noisy they said yes but there were no outlets out there. I ordered a large lavender latte half sweet, it was luke warm and very sweet. What a bummer for such a cute place. They had full menu with plenty of food, coffee and non/alcoholic drinks, plenty of parking and quite festive!

My boyfriend and I went to Melina for the first time, and we both left with the exact same thought: this is the best restaurant we've ever been to. To begin, our server, Justin, was the absolute best server we've ever had. From the moment we sat down and were handed the menu, Justin immediately began to explain the starters and appetizers. He didn't just explain what was on the menu; he broke down the origins, the ingredients, where they were imported from, why they were named what they were, how they were cooked, and even how they would make us feel! We left that introduction knowing exactly what we wanted and why, with zero guessing. Neither of us is from Greece, yet we didn't feel like we had to look up a single thing on our phones to understand the menu. Everything we had was a perfect combination and an incredible experience. When it came to the main dishes, I chose the Portobello Mushrooms, which come with a hazelnut farro. Justin remembered that my boyfriend is allergic to nuts and thoughtfully had the farro served on the side so that my boyfriend could still try the rest of my plate safely. That level of care and thoughtfulness is something I've never encountered in all of our dates. Between the jokes, the perfect check-ins, his menu encyclopedia knowledge, and the overall vibes, my boyfriend and I left the restaurant overwhelmed with joy. Neither of us has ever left a restaurant review before, so that alone says a lot. Melina and Justin will definitely be a regular staple in our lives moving forward. It was a good choice for us in this case because we were staying at the Even Hotel in Rockville. This restaurant was in the extensive commercial plaza adjacent to the hotel. Hence, it was a 2- or 3-minute walk out of the hotel entrance. While not readily obvious from Rockville Pike, it was easy for us to find. This place has French styling with respect to their menu offerings. They identify more specifically as French Fusion. The restaurant interior presented similar to that of a nicer American Bar/Restaurant (something like the Cheesecake Factory, for example, but not as massive). While the seating capacity was plentiful, it was fairly quiet on the Monday evening when we visited. Hence, there was no problem getting seated. Our server, Oliver, tended to us right away and did a good job taking care of us the entire time we were there. We had no complaints at all about the quality of the service and the timeliness of the food delivery. The menu featured several interesting options. My wife chose the Tartine Caprese Pesto dish. This included Mozzarella and Sliced Tomato on Toast covered with Pesto with a salad on the side. She was quite happy with this selection. I tried the Parisian Mushroom and Brie Omelet which also came with a Salad and a Waffle on the side as the bread. It was very tasty and quite filling. I should also mention that the complimentary French Bread with which we started was a nice touch. My wife had the Inconditionnel, which was a concoction with rum mixed with chocolate and hazelnut liqueurs and Orange Juice. I had a taste and thought it was pretty good. I tried the Sangria Rojo and was happy with that. The value was relatively reasonable for the type of place it was. With food, drink, tax and tip, our bill came to about $68. At $34 each, this seemed commensurate with the experience. If you fancy this sort of food, this is a good choice for a nice dinner in Rockville, a place full of restaurant choices. I wavered between a 3- and 4-star rating, but ended up with a four-star rating as they did quite a few things right.

You pick your pastries from the self-serve shelves. Some items looked like they had been sitting out for a while and were a little dry, while others had just been restocked and looked much fresher. Most of the selection leans toward buttery, laminated pastries, such as croissants, Danishes, and croffles rather than baguettes or rolls. They also have fresh cakes displayed near the counter. The two pastries we had were both good and satisfying. The pain aux raisins had a moist texture with a gentle sweetness. The croffle itself was nicely buttery and delicious, although the cream on top was a bit too heavy for my taste. Prices felt reasonable for the quality and location. Service was quick and friendly. Unfortunately, the coffee was only lukewarm, which was a letdown. Parking really depends on the time and day. We were lucky to find a spot right in front, but the plaza gets busy since there are several popular stores/restaurants, so it can be competitive if you're aiming to park close by. Overall, I'm happy to have another French-inspired Asian bakery option in Rockville.
