Cheeseburger Cheeseburger Recently friend/I stopped for a quick catch up/meal-Java Nation@North Bethesda. Busy day-we scored a table! I tried the cheeseburger w/potato chips. Generous sandwich, great smokey rich beef flavor. Tasty Mocha too. My friend enjoyed her mini banana bread & decaf latte. Prompt courteous customer service. See Photos!

I finally visited Java Nation! I have a friend who works nearby and we've been long overdue for a catch up. We wanted to go to a new (to us) happy hour, and this was the place he chose. They have happy hour until 6:30 for certain food and drinks. I arrived first, went inside and was greeted by the strong smell of coffee. It's definitely a coffee spot! But they have a full menu, cocktail bar, and scrumptious desserts on display. I saw there was an outdoor area that's probably heated, but I was staying inside where it was cozy. The bar is small and was full at the time so I grabbed a seat at the long high table nearby. Someone came to me almost immediately after sitting down to bring menus. And then about 5 minutes later someone brought water, and then another 5 someone came to take my order. I wasn't ready yet, so I looked over the menu. I knew I was getting the margarita flight, no question. The flight has 4, and they have 4 types of margaritas, easy! Classic, pineapple infused basil, spicy watermelon, and mango passionfruit. You have an option to swap a margarita for their red sangria, which is cool too. When my friend came and we ordered that, we swapped the classic for that. For food we got the margherita flatbread and corn ribs. Let's dive in... Corn ribs: they literally looked like ribs, but made of corn... AWESOME! Loved the aioli that came with them and the seasoning and flavors were on point. Margherita flatbread: loved the sauce, cheese, and crust. Literally zero complaints here and would get it again. Margarita flight: ranked, my favorites were the basil, mango, watermelon, and sangria. The basil was just so pleasant... the mango too, but not quite as much. The spicy watermelon was... REALLY spicy. The best word my friend and I came up with was sharp... it was so sharp! The sangria had a different taste to it... not a bad one, but it just wasn't my favorite. But overall, every drink was great! This was a cool first experience of Java Nation... did I mention the presentation of the food was REALLY nice? Especially the corn ribs. They have a bunch of other dishes on their main menu that seem surprisingly upscale for a cafe. I can't wait to explore more of the menu to check these things out. Oh, the service was a bit inconsistent, I will admit, but everyone was nice and I'd definitely come back.

After an eye doctor appointment, we stopped by Java Nation and had an outstanding meal. I enjoyed the vanilla latte, hearty beef stew, and fresh salad, while my wife had the burger and lentil soup--everything was delicious. The food was flavorful, the quality was excellent, the service was friendly and attentive, and the cozy atmosphere made it a place we'll definitely be back to visit.

A last-minute Sunday brunch with friends at Java Nation, and we settled in for our usual beet salad, and this time I got the blackened shrimp tacos - perfectly plump shrimp with cole slaw, radishes and tomatoes. We also shared a crab dip with a sliced baguette to share, and mushroom ravioli with spinach. Java Nation is a Montgomery County hidden gem, serving up great food in a totally relaxed and casual atmosphere. Is it a coffee shop, a smoothie joint, a bakery, or a bistro? I guess the answer is Yes to all the above. If you haven't tried Java Nation yet, you're missing out!

    Iced Matcha

Came to try Java Nation on Thanksgiving morning and was disappointed. I wanted to try their seasonal salted maple matcha but after ordering they informed me they were out of the syrup, so I settled for a regular vanilla matcha. The matcha was very very watery, as if the ice had already been melted in it, but that wasn't the case. The matcha flavor was faint and underwhelming. I was extremely disappointed in this drink. I also ordered the spinach and feta crossiant which was good. Nothing spectacular but it was a solid crossiant. I do want to go back and try their actual food and maybe a coffee next time but as for their matcha, it was not a hit for me. It's a good place tucked away that was surprisingly packed.

I was not expecting this. I went as part of my Maryland cafe passport and this one blew me away. With Java nation having so many locations I was expecting Starbucks type quality, but it was such good coffee. Probably one of the best I've had in Maryland and I am an avid coffee drinker. The food was amazing too. The Latin fusion was quality of Latin food you can't regularly find and it was just a fun menu. The restaurant as a whole was welcoming and somewhere you'd want to hang out too. I can't even dream up a better coffee shop.

    Honey Coconut Cloud Matcha

Super cute place I appreciate the vibes in general. I like how it's cocktails and food and coffee and pastry. The honey coconut cloud matcha was honestly pretty good! A little expensive but somehow worth it :) good blend of flavors. Not the biggest fan of the default to tip or the music. Also the floor vibrates from either the blender or something. That's really random and weird to mention but it made my feet feel a little weird lol. I was here for a study session and it was ok but I wouldn't come back for that. I would potentially come back again though and try the food or pastry. Seems like a cool place to hang out with friends. There's also parking so that's nice. The bathrooms are nice, clean, and smell good.

I was looking for a cool place to hangout that isn't a bar, and I fou.... Oh wait...it's also a bar. This spot had been on my radar for a minute, but being that it's a little out of my walking range, I hadn't tried it yet - until today. Plenty of parking, which is great. And plenty of room to spread out inside. They have communal seating, and also tables inside and out. You can bring book, or a laptop...the space would definitely work for a casual meeting. and lest you think it's only coffee they have a full bar - incase you need a half-snoot-full at 2 PM. To eat I had a lox bagel (I'm a sucker for smoked salmon). They pickled their red onions. A departure from tradition, but a welcome one, nonetheless. The acid really brightened up the cream cheese, and tempered the salt. Nice move! The menu is fairly expansive for a "coffee joint". Which brings me to my last point... Java Nation is clearly trying to be more than a small coffee house. They have good food, coffee, and wine on offer. They make the short 4 mile drive out of downtown Bethesda kind of worth it. I'll definitely be back. Maybe I'll se ya there!

Went here a little while ago. Their lox bagel was incredible, and the pickled onions and dill were a really nice addition to their already very flavorful bagel and smoked salmon.

I love this place. I've been here like 2/3 times already and I keep coming back. If you're looking for something hearty get the beef stew. If you looking for something warm get the lentil soup. If you looking for something filling get the half chicken. If you looking for something fresh and healthy but filling get the honey pear beet salad. I mean you really can't go wrong here! Hands down I love it here

Wonderful place! I ordered the ethopian pour over lot #6, fantastic taste and bold flavors! My friend ordered a cappuccino and it was also fantastic! Service was quick and pleasant amd we will return. Parking is a little tricky on a bust day though so prepare for that.

I visited Java Nation because I thought it was a coffee shop. Upon arrival the restaurant/cafe was bustling. With two areas for seating and a bar. The acoustics in this are not conducive if you want to do any work. I was seated at the bar and between people enjoying catching up with friends for lunch and the orders being yelled I honestly couldn't stand it. On top of that there were only two places to plug anything in. I had to ask if I could unplug the lights at the bar in order to charge my laptop. When I asked if the outdoor patio area might be less noisy they said yes but there were no outlets out there. I ordered a large lavender latte half sweet, it was luke warm and very sweet. What a bummer for such a cute place. They had full menu with plenty of food, coffee and non/alcoholic drinks, plenty of parking and quite festive!

Dark wood paneling and low lights, hushed tones, and a clientele in their golden years. This is not a bad thing. I will take it over techno-boom dining any day of the week. The food is pretty good. As an appetizer, we ordered the grilled artichokes with lemon hummus, a nice idea and satisfactory in its execution. For our main course we shared the seared tuna salad (which they helpfully served on two plates), and added a grilled lobster tail for each of us. The lobster was the belle of the ball - fantastically prepared and beautifully complemented by the crisp white wine I had ordered. That made up for the disappointment of the tuna, which was tasteless, and the salad, which was miserably over-dressed. If ordering salad, I strongly suggest asking for the dressing on the side. We ended with the flight of desserts. These were okay, but not so great that we needed six of them! One per person is more than enough, or just skip dessert here altogether. As for the service - our waitron did not seem to enjoy working here and was a bit surly. We had to hunt her down when we wanted a second drink. Overall, this is not a bad choice if you are in the area and looking for a sedate vibe with hit-or-miss food and a good wine list.

Unfortunately, what should have been a special celebration turned into a very disappointing experience due to the service we received upon arrival. We had a reservation for 4:00 p.m. When we arrived, the gentleman at the host stand was not welcoming or friendly. He simply told us to "step to the side" and that someone would assist us in a few minutes. As the minutes passed, we continued to wait without any communication. During that time, a white family of five walked in without a reservation and was seated immediately. At that point, I approached the host stand to ask what had happened and why we had not been seated despite having a reservation. The host searched for our reservation, asked what time it was scheduled for, and then casually stated, "I think someone stole your table." I was shocked by this response. I asked how that could happen if he was responsible for managing the seating. He had no explanation and, more importantly, never offered an apology for the mistake or the inconvenience. A manager later came over and asked what had happened. After I explained the situation, he appeared genuinely surprised and concerned by what had occurred. Once we were finally seated, our server acknowledged the delay and kindly offered us an appetizer because of the long wait at the front. We appreciated that gesture, but it did not change how unwelcome we had been made to feel upon arrival. I am writing this letter not because I am looking for compensation or anything in return. My purpose is simply to ensure that no other family has a similar experience, especially on a day meant to celebrate loved ones. Every guest deserves to be treated with fairness, courtesy, and respect. A sincere apology from the host at the time of the incident would have gone a long way. I hope you will use this feedback as an opportunity to coach your front-of-house staff on the importance of customer service, communication, and accountability. Thank you for taking the time to read my concerns. Sincerely, Ms. Deas

Peanut Butter ($5.50) - This was very good and definitely my favorite one tried. It was filling and the peanut butter that was apparent in the middle was nice and was tasted throughout. Wild Thai Banana ($6.50) - This was not bad. It tasted like an ideal banana bread. I am not sure what made it Thai as I was unable to figure that out. Coconut Chocolate Chunk ($5.50) - The coconut was not too overpowering, and I liked that combination with the chocolate. This was noticeably heavy too. Cherry Pie ($5.50) - This was very soft in the middle from the cherry incorporation, but surprisingly, I need more cherry taste here. Will I go back? Sure.

It ended up being better than I expected. 4 of us went here for dinner on a Sunday night and…read moreeverything was great despite them telling us there was only 1 server working that night. Whoever was working behind the bar ended up chipping in and everything ended up running smoothly. They took our order and we got our food all in a reasonable amount of time. We couldn't tell there was any problem if they hadn't of mentioned it. We ordered a burger, crab cake sandwich, seafood pasta and steak and all of our food was tasty and everyone finished what they had on their plates. We got 2 of the deserts and the Smith Island cake was just ok. I'd prob skip it next time. The ice cream was pretty good. When we left, they validated our parking and we were able to leave the gated lot no problem. So thanks for the good service even though they were short staffed and the tasty food. I'd def visit again.

I had wanted to check this place out since I recently moved walking distance to Coopers mill. I'm glad we walked because parking is regulated and for hotel guests only. There is limited street parking on pooks hill. The bartender was lovely and we immediately were given menus, when we told him we were there for dessert he recommended the fried cookie dough which was delicious. Comes with taharka vanilla ice cream which I loved since I used to live in Baltimore! The presentation of the fried dough balls was very pretty as well. The other bartender Zobe was a pleasure to speak to. He recommended good drinks and even whipped up a chocolate martini at my boyfriend's request. This place is a little pricey with a very casual atmosphere, but I enjoyed my visit and we will be back!

Revisited Sunday Morning this past weekend and ordered myself a Hojija latte (one of my favorites)…read more Also ordered a breakfast sandwich for a friend. It was slightly busy but the line moved fairly quickly. The restaurant has a good amount of seating and a lot of people dining in were simply enjoying their weekend. Unfortunately I had to work so everything was to go for me. I would love to have the opportunity to just dine in one day. I also want to try their Virginia location since that recently opened as well. I'm also still waiting on their rainbow/chantilly filled croissant because it had to be the best pastry I've ever eaten. Would happily return here. Wish they had a punch card for their regular customers.

The Blackberry Pistachio Croissant was flaky and full of a sweet-tart house made blackberry compote and rich pistachio frangipane. For the hot tea, I got Island Mango just on the description - sweet bits of mango, pineapple, orange, safflower & hibiscus. It was served as decaf. Once I let it cool, it had a citrus taste, but not sweet. I am still glad to have tried it and did not have to wait long for the order. Within a block of leaving the business, while holding the hot cup with one hand (the sleeve only helped a little), some of the hot tea spilled on me suddenly (I now have a burned scar on my knuckle). I don't know if the cover was on right, or if my movements made the top come off. I couldn't blame anyone. I did go back and had them replace the top since the other fell on the ground outside. When they say "hot" tea, they are not lying. Moving forward, no more hot drinks for me.
