I love Javier's. I used to come here in my single days and sit at the breakfast bar. I love their green chili but I still can't get Javier to share the recipe. Is there a way to give zero stars ?. I've eaten here twice and both times I've been extremely disgusted. Once was breakfast, the pancakes where flavor less and over cooked. I asked for my bacon to be on the softer side and they brought it to me so dang over cooked it crumbled the second I touched it. The potatoes were extremely greasy. My second was lunch and I asked for a burrito. First of all the green chili is a nightmare, and the ground beef in the burrito tasted old and over salted. I cant ever see myself entering that establishment again or ever letting a friend or loved one eat there. read more

Loved this joint! A coupon brought us in, but the food will bring us back. I got the avocado breakfast burrito- YUM. Smothered in delicious green chile, this was one of the most interesting breakfast burritos I've had. Avacodo + your choice of breakfast meat or chorizo (I had bacon) was great combo. My boyfriend got the french toast, which he said was some of the best he's ever had. He doesn't eat egg dishes, so he's a bit of a french toast/pancake aficionado. We showed up at 8:15AM on A Saturday morning & sat right down. Although the place filled up while we were there, we still got great service. We'll be back! read more

We live in the hood and frequent Javier&C's fairly regularly..about once a month. I've only ordered one thing off of the menu, the bacon breakfast burrito with hot green chili. I never stray from this dish because they do it SOOO Right! The bacon is thick and crispy, the eggs are fluffy, the avocado perfectly ripe. Service is always friendly and prices are on the cheaper side! I order a quart of green chili to go for potluck party's and it always gets compliments. Can't go wrong here!! read more

My husband took me here this morning for breakfast. We had tried several other places for brunch but the waits were at least an hour long. There was not a wait and we were seated right away. Our waitress was very attentive and our food came quickly. The food was excellent! I had the basic breakfast with potatoes and a side of pancakes. My husband had the breakfast burrito with green chili. Loved the green chili. Our check was only $20 and we were so stuffed!!! We will definately be back. read more

We stopped by here after being unable to get a seat at DJs across the street. Glad we did. It's a great little neighborhood diner that serves a good breakfast and is family friendly. You don't have to worry about bringing kids here, it's not a fancy place, but a clean and comfortable diner. I really liked the breakfast burrito, and the wife liked a beef burrito but noted that it tasted more like hamburger than mexican food--but said it was good. Kids had the basic breakfast fare with no complaints. Decent coffee. The price is right and location has parking, which is great on Tennyson St. The service was good and we'll stop by again. read more

This place is the best diner on 38th Ave. I am obsessed with the Mexican Skillet-- with avacado, nopales (cactus), and jalepenos, and they have vegetarian green chile... I went in on a Wednesday morning by myself, was greeted by 2 servers that seemed disinterested because they were at the bar eating food. I sat in a booth near the kitchen and ordered their special of "Chicken & Waffles". After I had ordered, I watched as two other orders submitted after mine were prepared first. The lone cook didn't even start my order until he was done with the two orders after mine. I watched as he plated those orders then proceeded to finally put waffle batter into the waffle maker and then grab what I thought would be a chicken breast for my meal. 20 minutes later I finally have my meal. It turns out that their "Chicken & Waffles" is served as just a plain waffle and 3 cheap breaded chicken strips on top. Not very special in my opinion. Since it took so long for a single waffle and 3 cheap breaded chicken strips I decided to just box it up, pay, and leave. I won't be returning to Javier's anytime soon if their service doesn't improve. read more

I finally made it back here for breakfast burritos over the weekend and am forced to bump my rating up to 4 solid stars. First of all, the burritos were ginormous. My mom and I split an egg, cheese, hashbrown, avocado and hot veggie green chile monster (love that you can get this without pork, it's rare!), while my husband did his best to devour a 5-meat wonder: bacon, ham, sausage, gyro meat, eggs, cheese and hashbrowns inside with hot pork green chile, lettuce, tomatoes and sour cream on top. He couldn't even take it all down! He typically destroys similar burritos at other places so this means Javier serves a seriously huge, meaty burrito. I ordered these to go along with some coffee that they kept offering to refill during my short wait. Second, the waitress checked on her kitchen staff throughout to make sure they got our orders straight and chatted with me about her family. Very sweet and friendly. Each burrito was around $7 and made for more than one meal, so quite a steal. It's not always easy to please carnivores and veggies at the same time, and inexpensively, so this may become a more regular stop for me. Again, I thought the bright sunshiney open kitchen/dining area was a pleasant place to start my day. read more

After years of living blocks away from this place, I finally stopped in for breakfast. (The small parking lot wasn't completely full for a change). I have come to believe in the adage that if you see cops eating in a diner in an area with more than one, the food there must be good. Right when I walk in, what do I see but 2 patrolmen and 2 plain clothes chowing down. My expectations went up, and they weren't let down. The waitress was quick and friendly (and cute). The menu isn't fancy; it's typical Colorado diner grub. I got the breakfast burrito with bacon and onions. It was good sized (I didn't feel hungry for the rest of the day). Their hot green chile is nice and hot, but not "Oh my God, why am I eating this" hot. The potatoes had that nice crust you get when they don't move around on the flat top too much. All in all, it was a tasty breakfast burrito. I'll be back to try some other stuff. read more

In Denver, their seems to be a lack of a true diner experience . Javier's has it all with great food to boot. Javier was one of the cooks and Kyle's kitchen for a number of years and knows his stuff. His green and vegetarian red chili is awesome. His prices are great with portions that are huge. You can even get a mini version which put your meal in the $5 range. Aside from that the best reason to go to this diner is Javier and Crew just like the name. In a society where we are losing our personal connections with each other and every place becoming so sterile and uniform it is good to see a mom and pop business surviving (although some months have been tough). Javier is always jumping out from the kitchen hugging babies saying hello to anyone and everyone. Fireman, policeman, neighbors, even the occasional homeless person that comes in off the street, he will give him a coke and send him out the door and wish him luck. The staff knows everyone's name and the place is more like a community then a restaurant. Nothing flashy about this place, its a diner for gods sake! so you will here the waitresses yelling across the restaurant and it plain Jane decor, but that only adds to the experience. I have been here over 50 times and the food, service, & atmosphere is always a great experience. read more

I have been here at least 4 times, always at someone else's suggestion. I try to be a good sport. Went for breakfast with friends after they suggested we go there this past week. I gave up meat for Lent and saw they had a selection of vegetarian items designated with a green leaf. I ordered the vegetarian combo that had: bean burrito, cheese enchilada, and chile relleno, and what I assumed was vegetarian green chile. Why wouldn't I, it was listed as a vegetarian dish. While eating I noted little chunks of something, tofu?, asked the waitress if it was meat and she said she thought so. It was not an error, that is what they serve. Why they thought it was o.k. to pour green chile with meat in it on a vegetarian meal is beyond belief. Although I am only a part-time vegetarian, I do have friends and family that are strict vegetarians and this would be very offensive to them. I looked at the menu again and saw where right above the vegetarian combo there was listed another vegetarian item "two pork tamales." Go figure read more

If I could give "0" stars, I would. Terrible, barely warmed over food. Way too long of a wait for basic burrito plates that weren't even hot by the time they made it to our table. And the chips....cold, greasy and disgusting. For me, tortilla chips are normally a "food w/no brakes", like don't-even-put-them-on-the-table food. But not these sad, limp triangles of dough. I ate one tiny corner of one cold, stale, greasy chip and was perfectly OK with pushing away the basket. I was trying to be optimistic that the rest of the meal could only get better. Wrong wrong wrong. Lukewarm plates, barely average Mexican fare, slow service only to have the "manager" dare threaten me with their laughable $50 For-Being-A-Grouch "charge". Manager was insulted that I wasn't interested in bringing their crappy food home to salvage in my microwave. I am not wealthy, I work full time, and expect decent food and service when I decide to stop somewhere with my kids after a long day at work. Don't waste your time or your money. The waitress was nice, though, bless her heart. But I'll NEVER be back. read more

I love that I live just a couple blocks from Javier's and DJ Berkeley Cafe because they both have awesome breakfast, but are totally different styles. Javier's is a the perfect Denver style mix of all-American greasy spoon with green chile and breakfast burritos. The portions are large, the service is friendly, and people know each other. Javier's is clean inside and you don't come out smelling like a fryer which is always nice. Berkeley's is great yuppie breakfast and I won't bother reviewing that since so many other's have. read more
