A lovely diner! Great food overall with big portions and reasonable prices. I ordered enchiladas michoacana. They served free chips and salsa first and are on top of refills regularly. The enchiladas were soft and melted in my mouth. A lot of melted cheese which I appreciated also. Only downside was the breakfast potatoes. They were hard and dense to the bite high felt like they were not fully cooked. And the wait for food was pretty long for us, but they were busy and apologized for it. This was such a let down. The buffalo wings were disgusting-not crispy at all-soggy-breading falling off them like you had dipped them in water prior to serving me them. Our waitress gave us the wrong plates for our skillets-I sent mine back but my buddy had already dove into his (which was really mine-we ordered similar plates but mine was no potato) No new plate, no concession on uneatable wings-still charged me for them. Not to mention the overly aggressive server who kept wiping his nose from all the coke he kept snorting going to the restroom. My wife ordered the Greek salad and I ordered the pregnant burrito. When our food arrived she asked for Greek dressing. He said they were all out. After he offered ranch or avocado ranch she said no thanks and returned the food. He asked what was Greek dressing anyway very rudely. She tried explaining what it was and halfway through he went back to the restroom obviously to do more cocaine. We asked the manager to not have this guy serve us anymore. She said he's just high strung. WHAT????? Food quality has gone down the drain as well with higher prices. The atmosphere is great! I feel like I can sit there for forever and be blissfully comfy. I would give this 4 stars, but my experience was generally lacking in several ways. 1.) I ordered the avacado breakfast burrito with sausage and the server repeated the order, yet when I got my burrito it was bombarded with bacon and had no sausage. I couldn't wave down the server since she was in the other side of the building and eventually I saw her walk outside so I just waved down a different worker. I explained what happened, and she just asked "who's your server?" She seemed annoyed and had zero enthusiasm to help. Eventually I think it was the manager who helped us. I think if we were just checked on earlier it wouldn't get to this point lol 2.) Despite being told that my boyfriend's pancakes were coming, they never came until I told the manager who fixed my burrito. I also didn't get my drink until a reminder later. Same with getting a to go box. I'd understand if the restaurant was packed with customers, but it wasn't that busy and the servers were either inexperienced or unfriendly (except the manager). On the other hand, the food was decent and generous in proportions. The nachos had a mountain of toppings which was great, and my burrito filled me up to the top! We have been coming to Javier's for breakfast for a very long time but never dinner. I recently ordered dinner for delivery and should have known... the food is fab. We got carnitas enchiladas, Chili cheese fries and shrimp tacos. I've never had carnitas enchiladas before WOW. I've driven pass Javier's many times. It always looks busy! Their outside patio looks so inviting I had to stop a few days ago. They serve mostly Mexican inclined dishes but they do have a few old standbys like bacon, eggs and toast. Or in this case I chose their chorizo. Awesome choice! Their chorizo is one of the best. Perfectly seasoned. Not too spicy and still good the following day:) On a sunny day outside seating is preferred. They day we went most people were inside. Just a great little greasy-spoon in the neighborhood. I have had some great breakfast grub here at Javier & C's. The best breakfast by far, though, is the Chile Relleno plate. It sounds odd, but it's a Chile Relleno smothered in green chile with eggs and potatoes and beans and sour cream. Delicious! They make some pretty great pancakes as well, but trust me on the Chille Relleno Breakfast, yum! I love a breakfast place with a patio! So does everyone else. Sunday late-morning, this place is PACKED. So, be prepared to wait a while, or head in on a Saturday morning when they are less busy. This place could use a liquor license. A nice, big, bloody-mary or cold corona would pair perfectly with the many mexican breakfast dishes on their menu. But, other than that, no complaints. They even have off street parking here! A staple in the highlands for many years, shut down for 2 months as we figure out how to deal with covid. Finally they are open and we can help support all the wonderful employees. With all the other options on Tennyson st it's hard to believe this place will last. The owner also is very rude and won't help you leave if someone blocks your car in. We were in today and never have we had to wait to order or get our food. People came in after us and order quickly and got their food about 20 min before we did. They advertise an $8 breakfast menu outside on two large banners, yet 3 weeks ago when I went, I was told by the server that "we are no longer doing that, it didn't work out". I still ordered a meal and ate. I just drove by and the banners are still up. Either the server lied to me or Javier's is advertising something that they aren't offering to draw people into their restaurant. I don't like being lied to.
