Outstanding nachos, average everything else. Date of Visit: 1/5/15 Javier's is a relative hole-in-the-wall type of place, but does have some promising items on the menu. Our group ordered the nachos, chicken burrito platter, chicken tenders, and a combo plate. The chicken tenders were straight out of a bag (microwave-style), but we had warned our friend that getting that at a Mexican restaurant made little sense. That said, it was still really poor product. The burrito and combo platters were just average, both very heavy on cheese and sauce but light on flavor. The lone star of the meal was the nachos, which were some of the better ones I've had to date. That, and the service, albeit a little slow, was very good. Overall, Javier's would not come to mind when giving recommendations, but there are definitely worse places to end up. read more

Bottomless mimosas for $10, sign me up! We found this little gem and were pleasantly surprised. It doesn't look like much on the outside, but the service was great, food was good, and with bottomless drinks for $10 you can't go wrong. They had multiple different flavors of mimosas (cranberry, raspberry, and white grape). The white grape was the best. The only odd thing is that they close at 4pm. read more

Loved it! We actually were headed to another restaurant that was really close by, but ended up being closed for the holidays. We were meeting friends and not familiar with other restaurants in the area. We saw this place and decided to try it. Was so good! The staff was so nice and the restaurant was clean. Loved the chips and salsa. Almost had a green chili quality to the salsa. Margaritas and lunch of Mexican food was tasty, warm and came quickly, but not too quickly. Would love to return for breakfast some time. Very small parking lot but we were able to squeeze in. read more

- Really bright and cheerful diner with a definite mom n pop-type vibe. You can sit at the counter and watch your food being prepared, or there's a spacious seating area with tables/chairs, and booths. - SUPER friendly staff. The serving lady noted that she'd not seen us before, and welcomed us warmly. She explained the best times to go without having to wait. All the staff said goodbye when we left too. I really liked that. - Nice extensive menu: pancakes, omelettes, burritos, skillet meals, burgers, sandwiches, salads ($6ish to $9ish). Nothing too out of the ordinary. - I chose a Greek Salad with Souvlaki ($8.99). It was absolutely gigantic, with a great variety of crisp salad veggies topped with feta, olives and sliced dolmathes. It came with warm fluffy pita triangles, and some creamy garlicky sauce. While the salad itself was delicious, the meat, unfortunately, was terrible. Every Souvlaki I've had in the past was chicken but, as it turns out, they use pork. It was so tough and chewy with a really bitter flavor. I ate a few chunks, and hid the rest in my napkin. - He chose the Mass Confusion Skillet ($7.25) which was a pile of hash browns, mushrooms, peppers, cheese, sausage, ham and bacon topped with two eggs, and smothered in chillie. It was absolutely phenomenal. - Open 7a-3p. Closed Wednesdays. Oh, and the nice lady advised us to get there before 9am at the weekends if you don't want to wait at least 25 mins to be seated. Well it was Sunday, so we decided to hang out with JC. No not that JC (sorry big guy), but with Javier & C. Sunday's are for football and brunch. If church had a killer chicken fried steak and eggs, I'd reconsider. Before I get too far off topic, let me put up a review. J&C is pretty good stuff imo. If you're after a specialty breakfast, go somewhere else. There are plenty of great places that can satisfy your "trendy-$12-surf-and-turf-benedict" needs on the weekends. If you want to pull up a bar stool in a diner and get slapped with some tasty bacon and eggs quickly and cheaply, this is your destination. I went with the burrito supreme, which is a breakfast burrito with eggs, potatoes, bacon, ham, sausage, and gyro meat. Smothered with green chili and some sour cream. It's obviously a blatant knockoff of Pete's burrito supreme, but it's almost as good. I guess technically I have no idea who came up with the burrito first, but you get the idea. Apples to apples on the burritos, I like Pete's a little bit more, but I would definitely recommend this one if you're in the area. And if you have no idea what I'm talking about, you might want to consider drinking some bleach or something of similar value because you obviously haven't been eating out enough. The G/F had biscuits and gravy with some bacon and eggs. Smiles all around for both of us. The service here is great. I love family operated, super friendly businesses. After a long absence, I decided I was due for a breakfast out. I got three breakfasts for the price of one! I managed to down the bacon, eggs, and potatoes but packed the three perfectly browned pancakes to go along with syrup and butter. Let me tell you, those pancakes are fantastic. When microwaved, they are light and springy in texture even when drenched in syrup. I'm looking forward to the other half tomorrow. All this for $4.99 because it was the day's special. I know what you're thinking. Who wants to try a greasy spoon with a strange name? Why would I go here when there's a lot of other good places in the area? Are they trying to imply through their name that it's a "C" grade diner? Resist what you may be thinking. Just go, breakfast seekers. It actually took me quite a while to decide to try this place. It was never on my radar. Then, one Sunday, I thought "what the hell?" The green chile is fantastic. I think it's actually one of the better green chiles North Denver has to offer. It's spicy and a little on the runny/soupy side. This is preferable for breakfast, because it invades every crack and crevice of your breakfast burrito as you work your way through it with your fork. The breakfast burritos are bigger than the oversized, waterlogged cigar your gross Uncle Artie flicked in the pool at the family reunion. Actually, they're much, MUCH bigger than that. Filled with grilled home fries, eggs, your choice of meat, etc. And the best part is....it's not really that greasy! The open-air kitchen gives the place more of a mid-century diner feel, and you can even eat at the counter and watch the action. I have ordered one dish here that didn't float my boat. The tamale breakfast was...not the biggest portion. Plus, the tamales were a bit on the bland side which was surprising. Stick to the more traditional breakfast fare, like the fantastic burritos discussed above. Let it be known: the "C" has nothing to do with with this place's grade. It has everything to do with the "Crazy" delicious breakfasts you're missing out on if you don't give Javier & C a try. Just don't bring gross Uncle Artie. read more

I realized that my last review did not really do this little gem justice. The wait-ladies are always smiling and extremely patient (with just indecisive people). The owner remembers regulars and is the main griddle master. Unbelievable breakfast!! Just about everyone we were with got something with the green chile and we couldn't get over how good it was. The wife took me here the other weekend for a mid morning breakfast/lunch. As I've stated in other reviews if it's close to lunch, I'll always go for that. The place was reasonably busy when we arrived. We only had to wait a few minutes while the waitress cleared us a booth. It was nice to have a choice, because I'll always opt for a booth over a table. The menu is your pretty standard diner food. There are a few specialty items on it though. As I was looking over the menu the wife mentioned that the breakfast burritos, pancakes, and the huevos rancheros were all very good. Again I opted for lunch fare. I ordered the pork sandwich, which was not what I expected. Still good though. The wife ordered some eggs and pancakes. The service was OK. I asked the waitress if the pork sandwich was of the breaded type. She responded with "yeah it come on bread". Not what I asked her. So I asked again. She finally went and asked the cooks. She promptly returned and said "yeah it comes on bread". Again, not what I asked. Which is why what I ordered, was not what I expected. Oh well. Prices are decent and portions are generous. Not my favorite diner in town, but it'll do pig. read more

Super friendly staff, quick service, excellent food! Been meaning to try this place since it made the paper a couple years ago - talking about local businesses changing tactics to stay afloat in these hard economic times! I stayed away for a while just so as to not bump into the crowds produced from the article and then stopped going out for breakfast for a while! So glad we picked but up the habit and we made it over here! I love this place! Super friendly when you walk in, coffee is tasty (i know others have complained, but really, it's just regular old coffee and it's good) I went with the huevos rancheros my first time and haven't changed yet! The green chili has a great kick and taste amazing on the eggs. Hashbrowns, refried beans... mmmm! I think about this place all week long waiting for sunday to arrive so we can go again! This restaurant is one of the reasons that I love this neighborhood so much. Where else can you order a breakfast skillet smothered in your choice of marinara or green chile? It truly reflects the Italian and Mexican immigrants of the area. The food was typical diner fare and probably a good standby. I wasn't too impressed with the skillet that I ordered, and the biscuits and gravy had that uncooked flour taste that I hate (a problem that waaaay too many diners have). Forgive me as I write this review because I have never been to Javier's and walked out with my wits. Every time I go there, I leave in such a severe food coma that I can barely remember what I've eaten. I'll do my best though... I'm an East Coaster, and one thing I miss about the crappy East Coast (because believe me, there are very few things) are the diners. Greasy spoon diners are a dime a dozen in the East and believe me, there is no better place to spend a Sunday morning reading the paper, lingering over coffee, and clogging your arteries than a stainless steel-clad, Greek-speaking, greasy spoon diner. But Javier's has eased my ache. Javier's serves gargantuan breakfasts, in a great bustling atmosphere where the waitresses (and probably Javier himself) would learn your name if you came by two weeks in a row. I had (from what I can remember) a big fat omelet (and by big fat I mean 4 maybe 5 eggs?) stuffed with avocados and cheese smothered in some awesome green chili. It came with a heaping portion of home fries and probably some toast too (like I said, it's fuzzy). My husband had pancakes, with bacon and I think he got a side of green chili because I was raving about it. I remember the coffee cups always being refilled, and my water glass never being empty. Oh, and I remember Javier himself stopped by to say hello, check on us and thank us for visiting. What a nice guy! I spent the next several hours eyes half-closed watching the Bronco game and then I faded to black. I love Javiers. But I don't go as often as I'd like, because its so damn good, and they give you so much damn food, that I need to clear my schedule for the day to recover from my breakfast. But don't let that scare you away--the pain is worth it. read more

If you are expecting a Mexican restaurant, you are only partly right. This is definitely a diner, but with a "Mexican" flair. By diner, I mean that their main focus is breakfast. Sure, as with any other diner, you can also get lunch and dinner, but the focus is on breakfast-type dishes, especially those that include eggs. I found the restaurant to be respectably clean, and organized. I liked that they had a number of vegetarian options on the menu, but be advised that they do believe vegetarian only means "no meat." Many of their "vegetarian" dishes include eggs, are made with eggs, or just have the meat removed. For example, I'm fairly certain their "vegetarian" green chile is just their pork green chile with the pork removed. Also, I'm pretty sure there is lard in those beans, and chicken broth in that rice. So, in a sense, it is vegetarian, but they do stretch it a bit, and there isn't much "vegan" on the menu at all. The restaurant, itself, is a lot bigger on the inside than it looks on the outside. They also have a patio. You will certainly be able to find a place to sit. The problem may be more with finding a place to park. There is not much of a parking lot - maybe eight spaces? - unless you park next door at the bowling alley, and I don't know if that is allowed. There are places along the street to park if you want to do that, but, if there is more parking that we saw, we didn't see it. The place was well-staffed in the late afternoon, and everyone was nice and attentive. I like the decorations about the place. They have the Beatles on the wall, the Monkees, some relatives, Lucy Ball, and others. It's an interesting place to dine; kind of like a hybrid of a 70's diner, and a Mexican restaurant. Pretty stinkin good :) I like that they serve Breakfast all day, that benefited when one of us wanted lunch and the other breakfast. I see lots of reviews on how great the breakfast was, and my friend can vouch for that! Agreed on the green chili.. yummmy!!! We sat outside, it was Sunday afternoon, around 1. Nice outdoor patio, a bit busy, but that's ok, there wasn't a long wait for food. The servers seemed to be trying to hard, or maybe the owner, as multiple people handled the same tables... maybe trying to assure coverage of all their customers... I had a bacon cheeseburger and fries.... and absolutely loved my burger!! Love the area, great spot to meet up some friends before heading downtown... they are only open until 8, except Sundays where it looks like they close at 3. Food is prepped right out in front ( cool) , and you pay at the register up front as well!! read more

What to say about Javier & C? I've only eaten there once (so far), but was beyond impressed so will happily give 4 stars based on my one meal. Popped in for lunch with a friend on a random Tuesday afternoon, and sat at the counter because, well, that's the way diner food should be enjoyed. Our waitress was extremely friendly, but not in that fake, fawning sort of way where you just want to hit 'em with a fork to the forehead. I went with a California Burger, while John ordered some manner of crazy breakfast mash up which involved eggs, veggies, green chili, and gyro meat. While it might not translate well to a review, John is a veteran "counter jockey" so it was turned out to be just the right combo. My burger was perfect. I mean, literally, PERFECT. Cooked just right- juicy without being greasy. The avocado was fresh and ripe, and there was plenty of bacon (mmmm bacon). The onion rings were huge, and good. All in all, if you are a fan of diners, I would definitely give Javier & C a try. I will be heading back. Actually, I think that I'll head back today! read more

Awesomely good greasy spoon in the hood. I like this place because of the variety- I wanted Mexican and Matt wanted traditional breakfast. I was fiending for a breakfast burrito but quickly changed my mind when I saw huevos rancheros on the menu. I got that with the green chile (hot). The green chile wasn't hot at all, but I still loved the flavor and their weren't any pork chunks. Yay! Now, the huevos...the tortilla was cooked almost deep fried. I don't really like this very much, but the dish itself was still very good thanks to the green chile and delicious hash browns on the side. My breakfast was under $7. I helped Matt eat his bacon and pancakes. Yummy pancakes..fluffy and light. This is a great cure all for hangovers and everyone can get whatever they want here. And..CHEAP. Staff is A+++. read more

This place is definitely a shot out of a Pulp Fiction scene. My buddy and I immediately felt like Vincent Vega and Jules Winfield after sitting down. The staff are very friendly and easy-going. I barely made a dent on the "combo" plate which included a tamale, cheese enchilada and chili rellano. The green chili is flavorful but needs more spice. My only complaint was that my meal was not hot (as in caliente). I didn't send it back to be rewarmed but I should have. Very pleasant atmosphere and very nice patio out front. After driving past Javier's for 3 years I finally decided that it was time to try it out. I would recommend sitting in the patio area in the evening because it is relaxing and inviting. We bellied up to a large community table and ordered up a couple of their Mexican dishes. The chili relleno breakfast plate came with beans, 2 eggs, home fries, 1 relleno, and smothered in hot chili sauce. My favorite part had to have been smothering the potatoes in the hot chili sauce. The home fries were cooked perfectly! The relleno fell a little flat for me because the breeding was less crunch than I like. The saving grace of the dish was yet again the chili sauce. Get extra! While moderately priced, I feel that it was a little more expensive than what it should be. Granted, it is a diner so you can find decent cheap options. Overall though, i think the price needs to come down a bit. Good flavor, waitstaff was great, and the cook did a nice job too. Now let's get this place to be ~$1.50 less per entree and Javier will have a gold mine! read more

An all around great choice for Breakfast or Brunch I used to live right up the street from Javier's but moved recently and hadn't been in for awhile. Having exhausted myself at the LoHi festival the night before, and having left my car in that area, I needed to come back and I needed a huge plate of everything to quench my hunger. Insert Javier's They have a nice patio setup if it's not too hot and some barstool seating (a must in this category if you ask me) and plenty of booths and tables for a crowd. The service I've had here has always been good, wether barstool or traditional, but can be done via a committee of sorts rather than a single server. They always have a good special plastered on be board and have the diner menu with a little bit of everything. I opted for the breakfast tamale combo with hot chili and my girlfriend had an egg combo with French toast. Everything was cooked well, eggs that perfect medium , yolks intact, good luck to the chili but not so much that you can't drink it with some coffee. Service was exactly what I wanted, attentive but gave you the space to read the paper and not push you out the door. It's undergone some changes over the years but it's always come through for me and I will continue to come back when I'm in that neck of the woods read more
