We stopped by after lunch on a Friday because we'd seen the signs but never been in. I wasn't wanting to buy an entire pie and was happy that they had mini pies. It's the perfect size for a small dessert and doesn't leave you stuffed. Great, friendly service. The pie had a graham cracker crust with brownie and marshmallows on top and was a great little dessert.

A very new business getting started in the area. Phenomenal customer service and Jawanda is definitely confident around an oven. The desserts are delicious - I've had the pleasure of trying both a lemon and coconut pineapple pound cake, as well as a pecan sweet potato pie. The cakes were extremely good, with my preference being in that order. The glaze on the lemon cake coupled with its moistness absolutely makes it, and the coconut and pineapple blend fantastically. Unfortunately, the pecan sweet potato pie was much too sweet for my taste (and I've got a ridiculous sweet tooth - note: I picked a frozen one up at a Cowboy's gas station on Hwy 280, and not from the shop). I remedied that by completely removing the top layer of the pie, which is very much reminiscent of a pralines-like topping - once I did that, as a pure sweet potato pie, the taste was great. YMMV of course with the non-doctored version. Overall, Jawanda's is a convenient new source for some delicious, "home-cooked" dessert offerings, especially if you enjoy a good sweet potato pie off-season. I'm pretty certain I'll be back again to try something new soon.

Not only will you receive great customer service but their pound cake and sweet potato pies taste so beautifully made. The plus is you don't have to slave in your kitchen to make anti this for that home cooked feel when you can get it here. They are amazing here and super sweet! You won't regret it.

My friends got the ham and cheese croissants, which looked incredible. I got several different things to try, intending to share, but brought them all home on a rainy day and they never made it back out of the house. The olive oil cake was scrumptious. Light, pleasantly sweet. Almost a pound cake texture, not that weird polenta-y thing. The oat morning bar also had an incredible flavor. The jam was tart and the oats were sweet with a little salty finish. Fantastic with some coffee. There was a line out the door when we got here. No seating inside. It all moved very quickly. I can see why everyone says these are the best pastries in Alabama...

Lemon Bar, Olive Oil Cake, Chocolate Croissant, Miso Blondie and Brownie were what was left and most of them it was only one left. I selected the brownie it was a peanut butter spread on top and was actually really good and large enough to share with multiple people. The staff was nice and moved quickly when making the ordering process seamless. The space for guest is not very big so you do have to either sit outside or take it with you, it's a decent amount of the outdoor seating and also a coffee shop next door. In future I would hope to be able to get there earlier so I can try more of their offerings.

They take absolute care and pride in everything--even the eggs were extra tasty and their breakfast sandwiches....yum. Most of the pastries are made with sourdough (except danishes, cookies, muffins). And they are top notch. Tender, buttery, flavorful, no skimping on anything. Just plain delicious. Bought more to save for afternoon coffee. The Friday offerings of challah, rye, and bagels are not sourdough but made with great care--even the bagels are made using tangzhong and cold proofed for 48 hours. Even those who do not emote about food and those carefully counting macros and calories in our family were impressed, vocal, and eagerly finishing off all of the offerings, sweet and savory. The space itself is beautiful--clean, intentional, and unique--with visual nods to milling and baking traditions. You can see elements of the mill and wheat motifs in the background, which adds a quiet sense of craftsmanship and history without feeling staged. The pastries are exceptional. Their croissants are perfectly flaky and buttery, the sourdough is deeply flavorful, and the morning buns strike that ideal balance of richness and warmth. The baguette is crisp on the outside, tender inside--everything you want it to be. Every item feels carefully made, never rushed. What stands out most is the consistency and care. Breadworks manages to feel elevated yet welcoming--refined without being pretentious. It's clear they take pride in both their craft and their process, and it shows in every bite. A true standout in Birmingham and absolutely worth returning to.
