Super racist and rude! When I went there to fix my flat tire, and the guy told me that it would cost about $15 labor for each tire and $10 for new inner tube. So I would be charged $50 for fixing both flat tires. Since I didn't know how to fix flat tires, I decided to give them a chance. To my surprise, they didn't install breaks back to my tires and just left my bike at the shop without even calling me. When I arrived after 4 hours, they gave me the bike without a break. So I went back to the store and asked the white guy ( who was the manager I guessed) why they didn't put breaks back and where my breaks are, he went inside and handed me four breaks and said " here you go. " you can put it back on now and we are not in charge of putting breaks back on the tire. I was super disappointed at the shop and I have never experienced such a rude customer service in the United States. read more

I am interested in the EBike but not ready to buy. The sale rep "Ted" was awesome! He listened to what we were looking for, he then suggested a few bikes and asked if we wanted to test ride it! I thought just inside the huge Jax building, or the parking lot, but instead I get to ride the bike around the neighborhood blocks for a good 10 minutes! For safety, he picked very nice helmets for us to wear as well. At the end of the ride, he attentively listened and answered our questions without being pushy or rushed! Don't go here. Took an older Nirve Paul Frank edition bike in to get kickstand repaired and new tires and tubes. 120$ later got tires and tubes as described. But... original kickstand was taken out of housing and replaced with aftermarket clamp on piece of crap. Which they didn't even attach straight! None of this was discussed in the work order. It was to be fixed not dismantled and discarded. I asked for the original part and it went MIA. They felt it must have been tossed. I think they got $$ for it. .., after my beach cruiser had gotten stolen, I went on a mission to find a new bike. Despite unsuccessful attempts from Jones Bicycles on 2nd, & a few other stores, I was losing hope. I came here after passing it a few times & had been attracted by the size of this store. I heard it was a bit pricey, but I wanted to go & see for myself. W/ a current paycheck in my pocket (literally just cashed it a few hrs. prior), I was ready to buy. So I walk in & I already dug the place. There was small line of customers waiting to get their bikes fixed or tuned up, as well as a few others looking around. The employees looked like they had a friendly vibe to em', especially the guy who was helping a couple out next to me in the beach cruiser section. Besides them, I was the only one in that section looking for assistance. There was a pretty good selection of bikes, I had seen some that I really liked. After taking a look at the price tag though, I was negotiating whether or not to kiss my paycheck goodbye. The girlfriend of the couple kept asking questions that seemed not all important for the salesman. For he replied back w/ answers that had a "duh" tone towards the end. (like that was a common sense question sweetheart). I started to get anxious because I wanted to purchase this $250 beach cruiser. It was pretty sweet, all black, but had a cheesy logo/emblem on the front that I wanted to pop off after buying. After waiting for the couple to unleash the salesman, I started debating on if I really wanted this bike because I really dug it, or if it was because I just wanted a bike in general. The salesman obviously knew I was there because we made eye contact a few times. He rolled his eyes at me hinting that he was being tortured by the questions this couple was asking him about 1 bike. A BEACH CRUISER! How much info do you really need to know about a simple bike that has no hand brakes, w/ a design that is intended for "cruising"? My patience had worn thin so I start looking for another sales rep. but there were none in sight. The couple then wraps up their discussion & leaves. I had my back to them when they did so as I was turning around I say excuse me, the salesman made a brisk manuever towards the front of the store dodging my attempt to make a sale. Really? I was ready to buy, he just had to seal the deal, but he took off? So I stood there asking myself what the hell I'm doing here? I start to leave & notice they had U-locks for sale. I foolishly grab one for $40 as a constellation prize & start to wait in line. There was a customer trying to return lights that didn't work & there seemed to be some debate about it for I waited there for another 10 minutes. The dodgy salesmen comes back out & has an awkward look on his face walking right past me again. Here I am trying to buy, but you guys won't sell! I left the U-lock & took off elsewhere. What a waste of time, spent half an hr. in there to be ignored. Why waste more time in line behind another customers drama. What a dissapointment. read more

The place to buy a bicycle! Amazing service, they tuned up our bikes and installed the extras we chose (we added a child seat to the bike as well as lights). Andres was our sales representative, he was so knowledgeable and really made the purchase a pleasant experience. My husband is an experienced rider, where as I'm a novice. He helped us both with our individual needs and helped us chose the right model for our preferences. After getting them home you can really tell the difference between the bikes you can get at the big box stores and Jax's bikes! I was really surprised. A million times better in every way. What a great experience! I dropped off my beach cruiser on the evening of July 3rd because I had a flat tire and a rear fender I needed removed. Yep, the night before the craziness of bikes being on the road for the 4th of July. As you probably guessed, they had a full house at their shop. They warned that the bike repair would most likely be done the next day early afternoon because of the work they ahead ahead of me. To my surprise, I received an email the next Morning telling me my bike was ready to ride! Man, this made my day! Waiting in line for nearly 2 hours to get inside the store. That's expected during Covid but once inside the store, my wife and I were told that they "had nothing in stock for us". We were there for less than 5 minutes and were absolutely stunned that we wasted our time. Their website says that certain bikes are in stock and we were told multiple times by the sales lady helping us that she doesn't see anything in the computer. Interesting to read all the negative reviews. This place has come to be my local bike shop. I'm a pretty avid cyclist and have visited quite a few bike shops in my 17 years of cycling. So.....I feel bad about all these negative reviews, but I have yet to find the "bomb" bike store that gives all the "bro" deals and doesn't charge a lot for service. But remember, this store is owned by some dude. He has to pay his mechanics and then taxes, any benefits, blah blah blah. Yeah, it'll cost 8 bucks to change a tube, but that's just the nature of the business. If 8 bucks is worth more to you, than change it yourself. I think overall, the Jax business is a fairly well run business. All I care about is, are they doing good work on my bike and do they offer clothes, parts, accessories, etc. at a reasonable price AND do they have a decent selection of stuff? I think so. I want to say that it did take a while to get in and get helped, they are limiting how many people enter the store still and want to make sure that those waiting are social distanced wherever they are sitting to wait to be called. My dad and I waited a while outside in the line but it went by pretty fast and we got inside and waited more inside. But once we were called it turned out to be very great visit! The guy who took my name to enter and let us in was very friendly. I don't remember his name but he was very nice and even knew once i told him my name that I was picking up my bike. I went in to pick up my Trek Marlin 6 that I have been looking everywhere for and I was so happy that Jax had it in stock in my size finally! Marucio helped my dad and I when we were called and honestly Maurcio was awesome. He confirmed with me my personal details to make sure that I was the correct person picking up my bike and went right to the back to roll it out. This is my first mountain bike, and I have never had a bike where I had to shift gears and never had to use hand breaks. He went through all the specs and gave a demonstration as well on everything on the bike and was able to answer any questions my dad and I had before we left. He recommended a lot of items that would be compatible with my bike especially the side water bottle holder I could install because my frame is the Small frame and it would be easier for my bike to use the side one. He even explained to us about bringing it in for a tune up in 60 days! I usually am the kind of person to just always agree to get out as fast as possible but I really enjoyed the conversation I had with Marucio very much. He was easy for me to talk to and I even explained to him my situation that I looked everywhere for this bike and how they either never had my size or didn't have the bike I wanted. So when I told him that I saw they had it, he was glad that I just said "IM DOING IT!" He also told me about his own Trek Marlin 5 bike the changes he made to it. I came here to have someone take a look at my cycling shoes because the clets on the bottom kept sliding. The guy helping me seemed really nice and knowledgeable but all he did was tighten them and said that should do it. I could've did that at home. He also had the audacity to charge me $10.00. Wtf. I paid the amount due because he DID perform a service. However, I also know it was completely outrageous to charge me for that. Won't be back. Word of advice Jax's, sometimes not gouging customers will get you a customer for life as opposed to a one time sale. I first found a bike online - via Trek website. I called Jax Bicycle Center as they are one of many authorized sellers of Trek. They also price match. Online price was cheaper than they had told me originally online. So I asked if they price matched, and they said yes. I go in the same day after work - and they already adjusted all their prices on the bike to reflect the manufactures website pricing. (Efficient!) Luckily, this was the first shop I went. I called numerous bike shops prior to see if they had the bike but they didn't. I walked in to Jax Bicycle Center, and it is a good sized store. They have numerous staff members to help out. Client Advisor Anders helped me bring out the bike I was looking for. I told him I was interested in doing a triathlon - and he quickly helped me understand the differences between road bike and hybrids, along with staggered bikes. He also took me riding around the area to see what size and what type of bike I liked best. And I kid you not - I have not been on a bike for over five years - and I have never been on a hybrid bike. Anders kept checking back with me to see if I was okay (during the bike test ride) - and gave me tips on how to mount the bike, switching gears, and etc. After the ride - I also asked about how to fit the bike in my car / removing the tires, etc. He showed me how to remove front and rear right there and was very elaborate in the process. I decided to purchase the bike. They didn't have the size I wanted assembled, so I will be going back to pick it up. I purchased the bike on Monday - they said it should be ready Sat/Sun. They also have a 30 day money back guarantee for some reason if you don't like it. I really loved my experience there and hope everyone will have a great one like I did! read more

So my rear hub got messed up trying to conquer The Loop and of course I headed to my home store Jax Long Beach. Looked for my buddy Tommy Faulks and consulted about my wheel issues. Of course he figured it out! While I was there, I asked about updating my groupset. My bike is an entry level Marlin 7 so the choices are very limited. Not to mention the limited budget. With his patience, superb knowledge and understanding of bikes, he made suggestions on how I can get from a 10 speed to a 12 speed cost effectively. After a little over a week, I have my bike back and it runs and looks like a dream! Being a bike noob I know I get to be a handful a lot of times but Tommy, with his gentle demeanor always makes sure that I get answers and solutions to my questions and problems. I've said this before, I come back to Jax Bicycles not just because of their products. There's a ton of bikes there by the way! They've got lots of bikes to choose from! I'm thinking of getting my youngest a 24 inch bike and they have so many models to choose from. Jordan did a good job showing me the different ones. Looks like I'm gonna come back for the Trek Wahoo. Paid Jax to package my bike safely for shipping. For the most part, they did a good job. Tubes were wrapped with paper as expected. Zip ties to make sure no wiggling and rubbing. However, they removed my seat/seatpost AND DID NOT mark/tape where they took it off. I just went through a bike fit 2 weeks prior to the boxing, now I have to find the correct seat height again. I recommend taping/marking your own seat post prior to giving your bike for them to box. read more

Took my 2 month old Trek bike in for a basic shifting check and some creaking noise around the handle bar area. I was told that the creaking noise could be from all the dust on my bike and he recommended the Peak Performance maintenance. On a 2 month old bike?? Despite my better judgement, I bit and agreed to do the service since I didn't want any issues when I'm on the trails. They told me the creaking noise came from the rear cassette hub because they found it a bit loose. I never had any issues from the rear, but ok. Hit the trails a week after and found my shifting worse than I originally had it. My rear wheel was not true anymore and there was still a creaking noise around my handle bars. I was so frustrated that I went ahead and invested in tooling and decided to make my own repairs. Took apart my headset/fork and found it dirty and with no grease. Supposedly they took apart the components and cleaned them with solvent during the peak performance maintenance. When I found no grease and dirt in my headset components I was done with Jax. A total rip off and I do not recommend them for your maintenance needs. read more

We bought our bike from a bike shop since we knew little about bikes. We knew we were paying a premium for the expert knowledge and service. While the salesperson was knowledgeable and friendly there was a pretty aggressive up-sale for every accessory known to man. The real problems started after the sale. We were told by the salesperson that the bike would be ready in a few hours. Then he checked with the techs and said closer to the end of the day or at latest early the next morning. 24 hours later I could not even get anyone to answer a phone call, so I drove down. Then I am told it is still not ready, it might not be ready today, they are not open Sunday, so it might not be ready until Monday. read more

In contrast Vince and Josh at Urban Cycling were super friendly and helpful. They fixed my back tire and taught me what I needed to know to continue to maintain my tires. While being "safer at home " I got an email from Jax letting us know that they were able to be open as an essential business because bikes are considered transportation. I decided to email them for an appointment last weekend. They responded within 2 hours. Later in the afternoon I dropped the bike for service. Got it back in amazing condition yesterday. I was so impressed by their professionalism, I wanted to give them a boost. Here are the top 5 reasons why I recommend them.. First...I am grateful that Jax was able to open! Needed my bike serviced and Jax is my only choice for that. Second...Appreciate the quick initial response to my service request from Tommy. Glad I was able to secure an appointment. Third...I am totally impressed that Dave (The President) took the time to make sure I was cared for as a customer and that I had secured a service appoint. Trust me....this story will be told over and over again. Fourth - Travis took the best care of me when I dropped my bike off. He was fast, friendly, professional and fun. All reasons why I prefer to do business at Jax. Fifth - my bike wax serviced and returned to me fast. I some extra $ on a new speedometer and that was done as well. Well...I used to get pretty good customer service there. Today was the 3rd day of curfews (George Floyd Protests, looting). So, I am waiting outside in line starting at 4 o'clock. Some kid announces that they are closing at 5. There are only 6 people in front of me, so, I stay. The manager or owner decided to let only 1 person in at a time because of the looting situation. The line is moving very, very slow. So, at 5, I am next to enter the shop and the manager sends out a kid to say "Sorry, we are closed!" I ask the manager to please let me just purchase a seat post real quick. He responded, "We probably don't have the size you want anyway, and, we're closed." Shuts the door on me. Rude. I am not feeling sorry for myself, I am just giving all a warning. So, I guess store manager didn't have the wherewithal to come out and talk to us and cut the line off at a certain point and let as least 5 of us that waited AN HOUR to come in. Maybe give us a $5 dollar discount? Why was the line moving so slow, there were plenty of employess walking in and out. But, he acted very cowardly, incompetently and rude. So, don't go there during the curfew? Don't go there if you want good customer service? I don't know...could be Jax is just a bad choice if you want to be taken care of by store leadership with common sense. read more

I reviewed before as I've been before. My bike was having issues with the front wheel not breaking and the battery having connection issues. I hesitated to come to Jax but why not. It took a while as normal to even get in the building then once inside a worker inspected my bike. He was quick yet thorough. He told me I would need a new brake system and a new battery because my bike was older. He told me a very high price $800 for the job and I was ok with it.
