This is a neighborhood staple. I've been a Jax customer for years. And the food and service has been consistently good the entire time. The menu is quite large and daily specials give patrons loads of choices. There is nothing fancy on the menu but there are some staple items that are always good, mainly burgers, nachos, and huge salads. The place can get crowded during the lunch and dinner hours so plan accordingly if you plan on dining-in. Otherwise there shouldn't be a problem. Orders are made fresh and come out rather quickly. Don't throw away your receipt because it has the order number on it. You'll need that number to pickup your food. The only items that I feel are not worth getting is dessert here. I feel that $6.00 for a slice of cake or pie is a bit pricey. I've also experienced flavor issues too. Once, my Italian Cream cake tasted like the refrigerator and a slice of Key Lime pie tasted "old". It is to that end that I am awarding 4/5 stars. read more

My group needed to waste some time before heading out of town so we decided to had dinner here. You order at the counter and they call your name when the order is ready. We had a variety of food and drink and everything was good. I had the chicken fajitas. The chicken was really flavorful but there were no onions and peppers which you expect with fajitas. The beans and rice were tasty too. They also have a nice sauviguon blanc wine by the glass. One person had a salad which she liked. She also ordered onion rings and those were very tasty, crispy, good flavor. One other person had fajitas too. He liked them as well. We did have to talk to the staff about a homeless person that was bothering us. They ended up getting him to leave. But otherwise we had a nice dinner. Good, casual food. Nice outdoor patio that is enclosed so you are not fully outside. Definitely a fun local place with tasty food. read more

I am giving this place a bad review because I think they have gone stark raving mad..No ice! No drink machines? And why? Because they are afraid of the throngs of patrons at the drink machine. In the mean time, there are no customers. So there would be no lines. I have frequented numerous facilities..they need not limit their numbers to 25%..they don't have ten percent of the places full. No catsup bottles..no salt shakers..no silverware...and finally..no customers. We used to go to Jax several times per week..but alas, no more...in your zeal to protect us....you have lost us..and I hope you are happy..because you now limit your stinking menu to a handful of items... Great spot for a meal. I had their ribeye steak with a side salad and order a side of mac and cheese. Delicious. Everything! They have all sorts of sauces available from Heinz 57, A1 and so many hot sauces. Their menu is extensive so you have you may have to slowly try everything. I haven't been here in years. Last time I ate here, I got sick (not food poisoning, it just didn't sit well at all. I am not feeling well today, and wanted some comfort food-a turkey burger and sweet potato fries. My go-to is closed on Monday afternoons, so I google searched turkey burger and Jax came up in the search. I figured why not, it's close and I will give them another try. I regret that decision. First of all, they got my order wrong. I am happy I checked it in the car. They fixed it quickly and I was on my way. Taste-sweet potato fries were soggy and tastless. The turkey burger was over salted (and I like salty food) and just not good. Oh well, I won't be going back. There are other better options in the neighborhood and close by. read more

I came in to get an order to go. I placed an order for a shrimp Poboy and waited. The kitchen was busy and orders looked to be getting out without issues. I observed, what appeared to be, a to-go order placed on top of a stack of bags next to the pick-up location and wondered if it was mine. I received an order alarm, which didn't alert, so I figured it wasn't. I waited another 10 minutes, or so, before someone (finally) went over to place the order in a bag only to have my monitor alert that this was mine! Needless to say the food was almost room temp when I got home. Having to microwave shrimp is something you generally try to avoid, because makes them tough and if my ride had not been waiting, I would have spoken with a manager. I've been here a couple of times with my fiancee, and it's a good time! First, I will say that it's definitely a kid-friendly / group-friendly place, and maybe not a great place to go if you're expecting a nice, peaceful dinner. The seating area is quite large so even when it's been very busy, we've still managed to find a place to sit. I've never had to wait long to order, and they've gotten my order (and my fiancee's order) pretty much right both times, so that's definitely a plus. The orders are also ready quite quickly, so that's another plus. With respect to the quality of the food, it's fine. I've gotten a mushroom burger (mushrooms on top, not a portobello patty) both times and I've liked it reasonably well. Sometimes it tastes a bit burnt (it's the bun, I think?) and my burger tastes more well-done than medium (which is what I ordered), but not a big deal. My fiancee gets a salad with chicken (I forget the name) and really loves it, so she would probably give this place a higher rating :) Overall, I'm sure we'll be back (mainly because of my fiancee's love for that salad). read more

Love to come here and have been with friends and family since 2009. Based on the pictures online, I came expecting this place to be amazing. Once we stepped in the door, reality hit. This is the worst food I've had while I've been in Houston. The loaded mash is drowned in sour cream, the chicken fried chicken has little no taste-besides trash. A friend ordered the fries with chili and they used what tasted like marinara sauce instead. Been wanting to check out this place since I was working down the street from it this week. Well I wasn't impressed! Maybe I need to try something different because the menu is pretty stacked. Well I ended up going with the Jax burger because who can go wrong with a burger right? Wrong! The bun was a lil chewy, onion rings were not good at all (extremely over cooked) and they are the onion rings that crumble to bits when you bite them. Nice comfy spot to do lunch and get a good meal. Last visit with co-workers was very unique. Manger did everything in his power to ensure everyone was satisfied. He even went to the grocery store to get one of my coworkers a specific type of bread to make a patty melt. This was after giving everyone who ordered fries a fresh batch right out of the grease because one person complained theirs were cold. At the end he even discounted the ticket. Feel like an outsider? Do you ever feel like you're invading a neighborhood restaurant where only the locals hang out? Well, that's a little how it felt at Jax. Don't get me wrong, they were friendly and inviting. It also seemed like we had stepped into a modern version of 'Cheers'. So, we walk in, peruse the menu on the wall and then order. Nothing fancy, just two chicken sandwiches, fries, onion rings, and sodas - all for $21. We decide to sit by a window with lots of natural light (addicted Yelpers can tell you that you need good light for photos of your food). The tables seem clean and bussed quickly. We get our self serve sodas and within just a few minutes, our order is ready for pick up. They are definitely quick! Our food is fine. A good 'solid' chicken sandwich. I can tell it's been marinated and the chicken flavor is good. I can also tell that the chicken has all been cooked earlier in the day and then re-grilled. It's dry and has burnt edges. It's still good and I eat the whole sandwich. I also liked the wheat bun. If you don't like pickles, make sure to request those be left off. I was mopping up pickle juice from by basket. My husband liked his fries although they were in his words 'all fried and hollow and lacking any real potato'. He still ate them and enjoyed them until the overly-fried-quality of them was just too much. The onion rings are huge! Where do these onions come from? They were good and if you like the super huge thickly battered types, I'm sure you'll love these. They were so large I had to eat them with a knife and fork. So, all in all our food experience was good, not great not bad, just good. Ok, so I said I felt like I was on the set of Cheers (except in Bellaire on a Saturday afternoon). There was an older couple eyeing us the whole time we sat at the table by the window. After a while I realized that we must have been at 'their table'. When the table next to use opened up, they moved there, but still eyed us! It was funny. The staff even brought them their food and called them by name. If I lived in Bellaire, I'd probably make this a regular stop. It's easy, quick, and cheap. I'd definitely get there earlier than 2pm because then maybe my chicken wouldn't be so dry. Food, food, food. This is my 2nd time here and we did a pick up order. They have specials lined up on a table as you walk in with a menu above. There is normally a line and you order, get a ticket and find a table. They call your number and you get your food. I've had their burger and their buffalo wings. Both were delicious. The wings come like 10 to an order and are failry spicy and crunchy! Yum! When you pick up, you just go in and pay and the food is bagged with your ticket number @ the pick up area. Both times that we came, it was fairly busy. This is def one of our fave Friday spots to hit up! read more

This place has been around for a while. I grew up in the area ate here often with my parents and brother. Back in the neighborhood for a visit and stopped in for lunch with my family.
