Don't underestimate the portions, they can be quite filling. The fingers were fantastic, you can also get their chicken in a burger style dish, but I prefer just enjoying the chicken. I'm here visiting from Vegas and wanted to try a place that isn't in Vegas. I either wanted a chicken sandwich or a burger but neither being fast food. After some digging on Twitter I came across CooperSaid whose a guide to all things California. As usually I was skeptical at first but still wanted to give it a try. Found a this location that was closest to us and went. The customer service was amazing greet immediately to a kind a friendly face. My order was easily taken without an issue. And ready before I could even find a seat. The sandwich: the bread was toasted to perfection the edges nice and crispy. The Mac & Cheese was thick yet runny and didn't make the sandwich messy. The chicken was of course the best part. I was able to pick off pieces and eat it and was deeply involved with how good it tasted. Seasoned and fried as only a chicken sandwich should be. Added bonus wasn't the least bit oily. Fries: the standard. The loaded potato salad: while good and filled with chucks of potatoes it could of been cold. Made a return visit when I happened to be at LBX on a Tuesday evening around 5:30 PM. The Hangar didn't seem to be as active even with the return of outdoor dining, but I used that to my advantage because when I was walking around the Hangar, I noticed there was not a line for Jay Bird's at all! Actually, I first noticed that Jay Bird's restructured their line in the shape of a U as opposed to an I. Makes me wonder if that was done so that the line wouldn't go all the way to the other side of the indoor food court? In any event, I didn't actually see a menu where the line was, and it's not so easy to see the overhead menu from the front of the line. This certainly won't be helpful to first-time visitors who have never seen the menu before. I recommend checking their menu online beforehand, but the menu on their website www.jaybirdschicken.com doesn't actually contain all of the menu items offered at the LBX Hangar location. If you go, try taking a photo of the menu beforehand and studying it while standing in line. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to take a photo of the overhead menu since I was serviced almost immediately after stepping in line. Like I mentioned in my initial review, I was intending to go for the Chicken Sandwich at hot level with a side of spicy crinkle-cut fries. Unlike what I mentioned in my initial review, I actually noticed on the menu the words "Ask about 'BIG SEXY STYLE'" by the description of the Chicken Sandwich. I asked about it, and it turns out asking for Big Sexy style scores you a cup of Big Sexy sauce. I can't quite remember what exactly their Big Sexy sauce is, but it looked like ketchup when I first saw it*. Taste-wise, it feels like a different flavor of tomato. Did it make the sandwich tastier? Yes, but I feel like comeback sauce would have been a better choice of sauce. Still, I wasn't charged 50 cents for that cup of Big Sexy Sauce, so that was kind of nice. * After reviewing the menu online, it's possible that I might have actually received the smoked tomato ketchup instead? Personally, I prefer cole slaw over potato salad, so I almost picked cole slaw until I realized at the last second that there is actually cole slaw in the chicken sandwich, and that's when I spontaneously blurted out "Loaded Potato Salad!" as if I was trying to beat the clock. That way, I'd be trying all of their sides besides the Mac & Cheese, which I wasn't a fan of. I also checked in on Yelp and showed the Yelp check-in offer of a free waffle with any purchase. On my initial visit, I had some Yelp check-in pandemonium where it felt like I was engaged in a technological battle with the Yelp app on my phone. Fortunately, on this visit, check-in went off without a hitch. Makes me wonder why the technical difficulties back then? After placing my order and paying, I received a buzzer, which buzzed about 5 minutes after paying. I received my order in a pretty large takeout bag that may have made outside diners think, "Is he really going to eat all that for one meal?" YES! I certainly did! :) The chicken sandwich, even at hot level, was about as enjoyable as the last one, but I noticed the inside of the chicken was drier than I had hoped. I wonder if it would have been juicier had I gone medium? Still, the Big Sexy Sauce was a nice addition to the sandwich that made it overall enjoyable in taste. Jay Bird's loaded potato salad consists of bacon, eggs, green onions, celery, grain mustard, and mayo. I generally like mac & cheese better, but I may have liked Jay Bird's potato salad better even though I think they used too much mayo. The fries, unfortunately, got cold quicker than I thought. I probably should have eaten them first before the sandwich, but I still liked the fries better than the mac & cheese from my initial visit. And the Yelp waffles this time actually came with maple syrup! YES!!! And not one, not two, but THREE small packets of whipped butter! Three packets for two small waffles was a bit much I thought, so I decided to save two for breakfast the next day and use one for the waffles. Initially, I thought they gave me too much maple syrup for the waffles, but I ended up dumping it all on the waffles, which absorbed most of the syrup! Overall pretty tasty! The chicken sandwich itself, is crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. . It has the right mix of the breading and chicken in which both compliment each other well. The crinkle-cut fries, with the seasoning, is about average - what you would expect of any place with crinkle-cut fries - think Del Taco crinkle cut with a slight dash of seasoning. I heard so much about this chicken. I tried the Mac daddy sandwich it had Mac and cheese their signature sauce and chicken. The piece of chicken I got was chewy and over cooked. It had great seasoning on it so I'm sure if it hadn't been over cooked and tough it would have hit. The Mac and cheese on top was so good but there was just no juiciness to this chicken like I wanted. Probably just this location so I will give it another try but wasn't a great first experience. I was promised an awesome chicken sandwich by the family. My experience was far from great and I felt like I needed a shower after finishing my meal. I ordered the chicken sandwich topped with coleslaw and a pickle. Comes with one free side and I chose the fries. A homemade side sauce was included which tasted like pasta sauce. Totally clashed with the meal and is definitely an odd sauce to include. I pretty much hated it. You can choose the spice level and I chose medium. The sandwich is made spicy by adding spicy seasoning after the chicken is fried. So let's talk about that chicken sandwich. The positive, the portion size of the chicken breast is pretty good and it's defiinitely juicy. The negative and the reasons why I'll never be back are: 1. The coating completely fell off the chicken 2. The bread became completely soaked 3. The shake on seasoning of spice ended up all over my hands and face 4. The pasta tasting sauce for my fries was soo bad and made no sense to the meal 5. Overall, a messy experience that's not worth it! read more
