The staff is amazing! We had quite a large order and they were so patient and helpful when it came to labeling and packing everything up. Such pros! My group ordered a bunch of sandwiches but I got a bbq plate with tri tip. The bbq sauce was so good! A little sweet and a little tangy, and just the right amount so the meat wasn't absolutely swimming in it. They really know what they are doing here! For my sides I got the coleslaw and potato salad. BBQ classics. I really liked how both side dishes were not like overly mayonnaise-y. The coleslaw tasted fresh and crunchy, and the potato salad was pretty much perfect in my opinion. Loved the slight bits of green onion in it. I would totally recommend this place and come back here in the future. There are some tables outside, but it's definitely great for takeout!

Brisket on one side, pastrami on the other

Pretty good casual sandwiches with a very long wait. Parking lot here is horrible - there's stores have earmarked parking spots and there aren't many places to park for the deli - so would recommend ordering in advance and to-go'ing your order if possible. Finally got parking about 20 min after arriving at the plaza and ordered a couple sandwiches - brisket and pastrami. Was going to be about a 30 min wait (also another reason to order in advance) - they did give us the heads up after ordering. Got the sandwiches - the brisket was pretty good for California - the person I was eating with was from Texas and felt it was "fine". The main issue we both had was the pastrami sandwich - we weren't expecting the pastrami to be sliced thin. You couldn't really get the nice texture of the pastrami sandwich with it sliced deli-style (in my opinion) - which was what we were hoping for. The sandwich flavor itself was fine - but overall didn't really stand out for us. With all that said - if I were to come back I'd probably go with the brisket - good brisket sandwiches are tough to come by in So Cal, so it works for me - and would definitely be ordering in advance and taking it to go. Would leave the pastrami to the Langer's and Katz's of the world.

    Small Roast Beef on Squaw

Sandwiches are excellent and ginormous! Came in today for my "small" cold birthday sandwich! It was ginormous! We usually get the large size and share. It's a very nice and generous treat for a birthday. I ordered the Roast Beef on Squaw for myself and Tuna for my husband with a side of Macaroni Salad. Everything was excellent. We love their BBQ meals, great meats and sides. We have be coming here since they opened a few years ago. It's a take out place but they do have a few tables outside for dining onsite. Service is always excellent. They will tell you the approximate wait time but honestly, the food comes out quickly. For the BBQ meals, we ordered ahead of time.

Tried their bbq mixed meat platter along with a variety of sandwiches for carryout during a lot busier time: best-in-class sandwiches; decent barbeque; incredible value. Beach City Deli & BBQ is one of those places that I've marked to return as much as possible, so went out of our way to come here for a late lunch, returning from Orange County. I was hoping since it was well past lunchtime, it wouldn't be so busy (mainly because of parking). Nope, every spot was taken in the shared surface lot of the small strip mall. My wife drove to the lot next door, and stayed with the car while I ran it to order and pick up. It would have been a lot smarter to pre-order via their website...it's pretty good and if you give them your email, you will receive a 10% off email digital coupon an hour later. After placing the order, I was quoted a 25 minute wait time, which was accurate. I waited outside, sitting on a few shaded chairs (there is no dining space here) for that purpose. This time I wanted a lot of leftovers, so ordered way too much food for the three of us. Deluxe Pack ($75) which includes 2lbs of pork ribs, 1lb of pulled pork, 1lb of shredded chicken, 10 rolls (filler), and two large sides. It's the most amount of meat I've ever gotten from a BBQ platter...could have received half of that and still would have thought it was a good deal. All the meat was good quality (no gristle or fat) and were moist. The pork ribs were very meaty, well sauced. Our two large sides of baked beans and bacon mac'n'cheese were OK: baked beans were solid (why do any baked beans go so well with pork?), while the mac'n'cheese was tasty but very heavy. If this was just for the BBQ, the taste would probably be comparable to a chain bbq place (like Famous Dave's, better than Lucille's). But the amount of food given is amazing. The much better food to relish were the sandwiches. Three of them used the same soft hoagie roll (I much prefer a harder Italian roll for my cold subs, but this softer roll is amazing for a grilled, hot sandwich): Cuban ($16 for a 12 inch) - had gotten this before, and was very curious in how consistent they were, especially when very busy. Yes!...it was the same as before, the best Cubano I've eaten. And it's so big...half of it would be enough for a typical lunch. In many sandwich cases, the right choice of bread is a necessity. This is a must try if you like Cubanos. French Dip Beef ($18 for 12") - super simple, thinly sliced roasted top sirloin. It was mounded generously, and came with two small ramekin of au jus. This is probably one of the only sandwiches my wife will eat, and she really liked this version. Black Forest Ham ($11 for 8") - my mother-in-law likes her ham sandwiches simple: soft bread with a nice amount of ham, with mayo, lettuce, pickles. She really enjoyed half of it, saving the rest for later. Decent rye bread: Reuben ($12 for full sandwich) - choice of corned beef or pastrami. A great rendition, with the right balance of ingredients (including a decent rye bread) and sauerkraut, it being grilled expertly (not too buttery or hard). The picture on the menu is what it looks like in "real-life": it tasted great. Beach City Deli & BBQ is just a great place to grab a sandwich for so much value and consistency; definitely worth a visit every time to try other things on the menu. Forgot to mention that the order taker was super patient with me, even during such a rushed time. And it's clear that the kitchen staff are being told not to be skimpy with the meats...seems to be more rare during these inflationary times. Super happy that it's in Long Beach, and deserving of our support. These hot sandwiches deserve to be eaten immediately. Next time for me: their version of a Monte Cristo.

    Torpedro Sandwich and Macaroni Salad
    Gio T.

This has been my spot for sub sandwiches for the past 2 years, and they never miss! My go-to is the Torpedro, which has various deli meats, lettuce, tomato, mayo, and sub dressing. The mac salad is a must-try as well and is very tasty!

    Tri Tri-Tip Sandwich
    Daphne B.

I really wanted to love here. I got the Tri tip sandwich. Service was great, but the sandwich didn't live up to the hype. The bbq sauce was average and tasted a bit acidic- which kind of made the sandwich meh. Would I go back? Maybe, but I'd try something else. If I am craving a great Tri tip sandwich, I'll make the trek up to Outdoor Grill in Culver city. (They truly have the best bbq sauce. ) I was hoping for a local Bu-Cees level sandwich, so I'll keep looking...

    Torpedro Sandwich
    Jamie Y.

I was on the hunt for a good sandwich in Long Beach and I definitely found the right place! I got the torpedro sandwich after much deliberation and it's exactly what you want from an italian sandwich; the bread is soft, the meats are thinly sliced, and the veggies are fresh. I would love to try their barbeque next time, it smelled amazing inside. The staff are friendly and brought out our sandwiches for us as well since there was a bit of a wait. Also shout out to the construction workers outside that told us this is the best spot, so you know it's good! Unfortunately there's no seating as the tables outside are for the boba shop next door. The parking lot is decently sized but was packed when we went on the weekend, so it might take a minute to find a spot.

    Smoked pastrami !!
    Al M.

This place is fire !! Low-key little sleeper sandwich shop located in a strip mall that you would probably pass by not even notice it. Honestly, I've been coming here for years because their menus a little different than your average sandwich place and they have lots to choose from Everything that I've tried here has been really good, but my favorites are the tor-pedro sandwich which is loaded with meat and made the way of torpedo should be. Now I'm a big fan of smoked meat and I'm telling you they're pastrami is one of the best I've ever had, it's a no-frills sandwich, meat , good bread and thats all it needs .. my other faves is the brisket the tri-tip and my wife's vegetarian and she loves a veggie sandwich. The owners/sandwich makers are cool people and super friendly. They bang out orders as fast as they can but be prepared for a little wait as they get busy at times . If you're looking for something different than those chain sandwich shops ,look no further and stop by and grab yourself a sandwich ..

    Bbq chicken
    Abi O.

Oh my goodness, please kindly take BBQ out of your menu and stick to sandwiches .The worst BBQ I have ever tasted. Don't be fooled the BBQ chicken that comes with the ribs is SHREDDED chicken. Who sells shredded chicken as BBQ chicken? It was a to-go order. I ended up trashing it. $60 down the drain. Very disappointing. I could not drive back since I live in Torrance. WASTE OF TIME.

I was also greeted as soon as I walked in, and the staff was quick to start taking my order and directed me to the burrito menu. I did have to take a moment to look over everything, but service overall was friendly and attentive. The coffee was actually pretty good, priced around $2.99-$3.99 with a few creamer options. As for the food, the burrito itself was okay--good, but nothing extraordinary or better than what you could make at home. It comes with meat, egg, cheese, salsa, and additional add-ons like potatoes and extra cheese are charged separately. My main concern was the condition of the space: it felt very cluttered, with items stacked everywhere and a noticeable lack of cleanliness that made it hard to overlook. While the atmosphere and convenience have their appeal, I would rate the experience a 3.2 out of 5 overall, mainly due to cleanliness concerns and the food not quite living up to the hype. Total $18 large coffee no refills and the burrito pretty pricey

I got the 10-inch chopped cheese combo. The sandwich had a few positives: good amount of beef, tender meat, cheese melted in well and the bread was genuinely great. Soft, chewy, flavorful and easily the best thing here. Everything after that started falling apart. The sandwich was rich and oily but didn't have enough seasoning, acidity or heat to balance it. There were faint hints of cumin and the salt level was fine, but overall it tasted like it was trying to coast on grease. The lettuce and tomato added nothing, and even the cilantro sauce couldn't cut through the oily aftertaste. If you do try it, add onions, pickles and jalapeños because the base sandwich badly needs backup. The fries looked good, then delivered absolutely nothing. Barely seasoned, smaller portion than expected and somehow had a weird burnt aftertaste despite looking normal. That takes effort. Service was the real disaster. The person helping me acted annoyed, like customers were an unfortunate side effect of running a restaurant. The menu board shows combo pricing for some items, like burgers, but not sandwiches, so the chopped cheese combo pricing was unclear. The drink situation was ridiculous. The board says $2.99 for a 24 oz drink and the soda machine was right there, but I was handed a 12 oz can with no heads-up that the machine wasn't available. That's not a substitute. Full size promise for a half-size reality. For $22.03 total, that made the whole combo feel even worse value-wise. Food took almost 30 minutes and it felt like my order sat around until it was convenient to bag it. I only got it when another customer who ordered after me was being helped. Add the flies hanging around the napkins and surfaces and this started feeling less like lunch and more like a health inspection waiting to happen. Parking is rough too since it's on a narrow, busy intersection, though there is paid parking across the street. Overall, the bread was great and the sandwich had potential, but potential doesn't carry bad service, bland fries, unclear pricing, a drink downgrade, a long wait and flies. If the food was amazing, maybe some of this could be overlooked. Nah, too many atrocities happening.
