Best Chicken Salad Sandwich in the area! I went to redeem my birthday Sandwich. You get a small.sandwich (small on their menu but by no means small!). I decided to get a cold Sandwich on a very hot day. Although their hot Sandwiches and BBQ meats are my favorite. I chose Chicken Salad and glad I did. It was excellent and I will definitely order again! I love their Squaw Bread and it paired perfectly with the chicken salad! Very generous serving and I definitely could habe saved half for later but I ate it all. What was very nice, they wrote Happy Birthday on my sandwich wrapoer! I also ordered a side, Street Corn. It's our family favorite side. So good! I only had a taste and saved it for dinner with my family! All of their sides arwrapper! Service as always was friendly and helpful. Recently stopped by Beach City Deli & BBQ after seeing recommendations online and decided to order the Big Kahuna. Honestly, one of the best sandwiches I've had in a long time. The pineapple added to what's basically a Cuban style sandwich sounds different at first, but it works perfectly. The balance of sweet, savory, crispy, and smoky was spot on. Everything tasted super fresh and the bread held everything together perfectly without getting soggy. My original plan was to eat half and save the rest for later... yeah, that didn't happen. Ended up finishing the whole thing because it was that good. Service was friendly, food came out quick, and the whole spot had a really chill local vibe. Delicious sandwiches. Like the kind that make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I've tried their bbq and their Italian subs and you really can't go wrong with anything here. Staff works so efficiently and are so friendly. It was very easy to order online and pick everything up. There isn't any seat inside, so it's definitely more of a take away spot. Pretty good casual sandwiches with a very long wait. Parking lot here is horrible - there's stores have earmarked parking spots and there aren't many places to park for the deli - so would recommend ordering in advance and to-go'ing your order if possible. Finally got parking about 20 min after arriving at the plaza and ordered a couple sandwiches - brisket and pastrami. Was going to be about a 30 min wait (also another reason to order in advance) - they did give us the heads up after ordering. Got the sandwiches - the brisket was pretty good for California - the person I was eating with was from Texas and felt it was "fine". The main issue we both had was the pastrami sandwich - we weren't expecting the pastrami to be sliced thin. You couldn't really get the nice texture of the pastrami sandwich with it sliced deli-style (in my opinion) - which was what we were hoping for. The sandwich flavor itself was fine - but overall didn't really stand out for us. With all that said - if I were to come back I'd probably go with the brisket - good brisket sandwiches are tough to come by in So Cal, so it works for me - and would definitely be ordering in advance and taking it to go. Tried their bbq mixed meat platter along with a variety of sandwiches for carryout during a lot busier time: best-in-class sandwiches; decent barbeque; incredible value. Beach City Deli & BBQ is one of those places that I've marked to return as much as possible, so went out of our way to come here for a late lunch, returning from Orange County. I was hoping since it was well past lunchtime, it wouldn't be so busy (mainly because of parking). Nope, every spot was taken in the shared surface lot of the small strip mall. My wife drove to the lot next door, and stayed with the car while I ran it to order and pick up. It would have been a lot smarter to pre-order via their website...it's pretty good and if you give them your email, you will receive a 10% off email digital coupon an hour later. After placing the order, I was quoted a 25 minute wait time, which was accurate. I waited outside, sitting on a few shaded chairs (there is no dining space here) for that purpose. This time I wanted a lot of leftovers, so ordered way too much food for the three of us. Deluxe Pack ($75) which includes 2lbs of pork ribs, 1lb of pulled pork, 1lb of shredded chicken, 10 rolls (filler), and two large sides. It's the most amount of meat I've ever gotten from a BBQ platter...could have received half of that and still would have thought it was a good deal. All the meat was good quality (no gristle or fat) and were moist. The pork ribs were very meaty, well sauced. Our two large sides of baked beans and bacon mac'n'cheese were OK: baked beans were solid (why do any baked beans go so well with pork?), while the mac'n'cheese was tasty but very heavy. If this was just for the BBQ, the taste would probably be comparable to a chain bbq place (like Famous Dave's, better than Lucille's). But the amount of food given is amazing. The much better food to relish were the sandwiches. Three of them used the same soft hoagie roll (I much prefer a harder Italian roll for my cold subs, but this softer roll is amazing for a grilled, hot sandwich): Cuban ($16 for a 12 inch) - had gotten this before, and was very curious in how consistent they were, especially when very busy. Yes!...it was the same as before, the best Cubano I've eaten. And it's so big...half of it would be enough for a typical lunch. In many sandwich cases, the right choice of bread is a necessity. This is a must try if you like Cubanos. French Dip Beef ($18 for 12") - super simple, thinly sliced roasted top sirloin. It was mounded generously, and came with two small ramekin of au jus. This is probably one of the only sandwiches my wife will eat, and she really liked this version. Black Forest Ham ($11 for 8") - my mother-in-law likes her ham sandwiches simple: soft bread with a nice amount of ham, with mayo, lettuce, pickles. She really enjoyed half of it, saving the rest for later. Decent rye bread: Reuben ($12 for full sandwich) - choice of corned beef or pastrami. A great rendition, with the right balance of ingredients (including a decent rye bread) and sauerkraut, it being grilled expertly (not too buttery or hard). The picture on the menu is what it looks like in "real-life": it tasted great. Beach City Deli & BBQ is just a great place to grab a sandwich for so much value and consistency; definitely worth a visit every time to try other things on the menu. Forgot to mention that the order taker was super patient with me, even during such a rushed time. And it's clear that the kitchen staff are being told not to be skimpy with the meats...seems to be more rare during these inflationary times. Super happy that it's in Long Beach, and deserving of our support. These hot sandwiches deserve to be eaten immediately. Next time for me: their version of a Monte Cristo. read more

A legend among sandwich shops. I recently placed a hefty lunch order at Beach City Deli & BBQ. My team hosted an event nearby and we fueled up with 13 sandwiches. Beach City Deli rose to the challenge and they did it with a smile. My order consisted of the bacon chicken pesto sandwich (no bacon) and a side of coleslaw. This sandwich was toasted to perfection and the coleslaw was a great crunchy addition. I also got to snack on my teammates street corn dip and it was quite tasty. They even packed my ice chest to make sure our lunch was easily transportable. Love a team that goes above and beyond! The only negative to this spot is their parking situation. Parking at this complex is rough. It would stink if you were on a time crunch. I'd recommend adding 10 min to your commute to keep it safe. read more

This place use to be very good. They use to have great smoked meat and awesome Italian sandwiches, but,, now it's different. Took a friend there yesterday and ordered a half pound of brisket.. very disappointed. Best I can describe it was like reheated thinly sliced roast beef like sandwich meat. Ordered a take out through Grub hub for BBQ off your menu. I ordered the to meat combo, brisket and chicken with two sides of baked beans and coleslaw. The brisket tasted like roast beef with liquid smoke. The BBQ chicken is SHREDDED chicken way too much smoke flavor,I assume from too much liquid smoke. The beans too smokey . Coleslaw lacked seasoning,and only tasted of mayonnaise and vinegar. I ended up not eating any of the food and had to order food from another restaurant. Using liquid smoke flavor is not BBQ. I was always going with their Tri tip sandwich and it was exactly what I was looking for but the last time I went, I decided to give their Cuban a try and it did not disappoint! Not one bit! Today I ordered the bbq rib plate and baked beans for $13:.00 and with sales tax and credit card fee it came to $14.80. After watching the Brazil v. Norway game, Norway won, I opened the aluminum tin of ribs to enjoy, but what I got were rib tips of boneless ribs that were the left overs ends of a rib slab that was fatty and grizzly. I was surprised and disappointed. For $20 one can get a decent meal someplace else. I forced myself to drive back there and get a refund, where the managing gentleman explained that burnt fatty boneless rib ends are considered a "rib bone" when ordering their "3 bone-in ribs plate?" Some restaurants serve burnt ends as advertised as burnt ends to be truthful to customers instead of deceiving customers that a 3 rib plate are with slab boneless ends instead of true bone in ribs! Lesson learned = if you order here, look to check your "entire order" as being fully correct before walking out the front door instead of learning what I have unfortunately learned today, read more

Parking is a nightmare for this place, especially at lunch. I would fight the traffic if the barbecue was better. It's not bad, but it's nothing to write home about and I'm not making a special trip to sample their brisket or pulled pork. Seat is limited inside and outside, and they have chips and drinks to eat with your barbecue I think if parking was better this would be a good lunch spot for folks that went to school at CSULB. Okay found this place my accident we were getting tacos at the stand at the corner. So since then I've eaten here multiple times. The barbecue they do is smoked in house and it's fantastic. Baby back ribs and chicken melt in your mouth. Okay but the sandwiches are really good Co got the Italian sandwich authentic Italian meats I'm from back east and it reminded me of the hoagies they have back there super good. I got the roast beef love their roast beef they make it in house. One of the best sandwiches I've had there is the pastrami oh my gosh make it in house and serve it until it's sold out and it usually sells out. If you're missing a good pastrami so much come here you'll love it. The clerks were great they talked to you answered all your questions and even made suggestions. Came into Long Beach for a sports card show at the convention center. I wanted something local for lunch settled on the Yelp reviews for Beach City (I love a good pastrami). The location is out of the way in a modern strip mall, plenty of parking. There is no seating really, people are grabbing and going nonstop. The inside are consists of a drink frig and a counter with a display case. The smell of the barbecue hits you when you walk in. I ordered the Pastrami, a side of potato salad, and a bottled soda (no fountain drinks). Unwrapping the sandwich released that same bbq smell. 8 oz potato salad and 12" sandwich is plenty to share. Omg! I'm ashamed of myself for never eating here before. All that time I could have been here weekly, wasted! Guess I have a lot to make up for! Was in the mood for some sandwiches. I usually go to jersey mikes but wanted to try out a little locally owned place. Also noticed their big award that says it was one of yelps top places to eat in 2022. On their Yelp page I also read their write up about the owners. (I have a handicap placard And even all those spots were filled up) As soon as I walked in I was so overwhelmed by all the amazing options and the delicious smell. I had a bunch of questions on what the staff here suggested We got 2 large sandwiches. The pastrami with cheese, pickles and mustard. And the brisket which we added Mayo and cheese. It came with a vinegar based sauce. Not quite NC style, more like vinegar with texas bbq sauce. We said no thank you and asked for Mayo instead. The guy that took our order was nice enough to bring it out to us in containers on the side so we could try it still. It was really good The meat had a delicious Smokey taste, but not overpowering at all They offer a really nice selection of deli sides. There was so many to pick from. But we got the small pasta salad and the small Mac and cheese (they were out of potato salad) they also have a selection of chips and drinks for sale. It did take a while for our sandwiches to be made since they are so fresh and made to order. But as my granny always said, you can't rush perfection!! He told us it would be about 15 minutes. It all came out in 10 to be exact The price did quickly add up. The total came to around 40 dollars (with a coupon and not including tip) while checking out their menu online before coming here I noticed they had a sign up reward program. For signing up I got 10 percent off. So I strongly suggest doing that!! Because even though with the sides, the prices of the sandwiches were pricy in my opinion. But worth it. Especially since they do put a good amount of meat on them They have a couple tables outside. This is definitely more of a to go place. Would love it if they had a larger indoor dining area.
