There's nothing like eating a Nashville hot chicken at Jay Bird's inside of the Hangar (Long Beach, California). i've came here twice already. Let me tell you, this is a very good spot if you want quick casual food, and that's tasty. During my 1st visit.... I ordered the chicken sandwich (mild heat) and fries... with extra comeback sauce aside. I must say, this gonna be the tastiest chicken sandwich I've tasted. Chicken is cooked perfectly: With the extra sauce, I was able to enjoy it alot more. For the 2nd visit, mac daddy and fries (chicken sandwich with mac and cheese). I normally don't eat chicken sandwich with mac and cheese, but it looks real good. Sure enough, it was delicious. Service is quick and great. Overall.... if you good food inside the hangar, this is your best bet. read more

Came here right after our courthouse wedding in Beverly Hills and it was exactly what the hungry hippo ordered. The sandwiches are flavorful, juicy, and genuinely huge. We probably could have split one and been perfectly happy, which says a lot. And their fries that come alongside are a meal unto themselves, the kind of portion that could realistically feed a small crowd. The sandwiches are a bit of a commitment in the best way, which is to say they are rich and filling and you will absolutely need a nap afterwards. Jay Birds is a restaurant located in the LBX Hanger food hall. Having been to a previous location that had closed, I was excited to enjoy their food once more. I ordered the Blazin fries, which came with a mountain of fries loaded with Mac n cheese, buffalo sauce, and chicken tender bits. It was tasty but very heavy. They do have water cups available for self-serve fills. Service was friendly but slower than expected. It did take a while for my order to come out. Overall, I enjoyed my meal at Jay Bird's and I'll be back to try other menu items in the future. read more

On 7/27 tried out this place because I heard good things about them. I showed up at opening at 11am staff was happy and eager to help. Its in a food court so you sit where you can find a spot. Place was really clean. I ordered the 2 strip meal with fries and an extra strip with medium hotness level. Man the strips are big i could have eaten 2 and been fine! They were crunchy, juicy and delicious. Fries were seasoned well and crunchy. I'll be coming back again! read more

Heard a lot about the chicken sandwiches at Jay birds so I decided to give this place a try. Honestly, the food was pretty mediocre. Maybe it was an off day but my general notes: - chicken was juicy, but the flavor was lacking depth - bread was stale - cole slaw was okay - fries were freshly made but also lacked seasoning The seating arrangements in the area are also pretty poor as they are located in a food hall. Ample parking to get there which is nice at least. Overall, just not a superb experience that I would've expected based on the hype Jay Birds was getting on socials. The chicken sandwich was okay. Juicy yet somehow the breading lacked depth. Decent size. But for a place that specializes in chicken, I'd expect a more unique flavor. Or just more flavor in general. The french fries were generic best. The only flavor came from the seasoning which was not evenly distributed. There were a couple other places in the food hall with better fries. read more

Located inside the Hangar, there are a bunch of food options to choose from and if you're craving a solid chicken sandwich, Jay Bird's Chicken will hit the spot. They churn out orders pretty quickly and this place seems to be one of the more popular spots inside the food hall. I got the traditional chicken sandwich with fries and I was pretty happy. The chicken was moist and juicy. not as crispy as I would've liked but it was fine. The fries were a little on the soggy side but that's probably because of the to-go box packaging. All in all, a solid spot for a chicken sandwich. read more

Not your standard chicken sandwich. The chicken is savory and crispy. The spice levels are true and even if you don't go too spicy the flavor is all there. Let's talk about the coleslaw!!! When you got that craving for a delicious chicken sandwich, Jay Bird's Chicken is a must! I went with the Mac Daddy w/ medium heat. It was just perfect for me. And that chicken breast was juicy with every bite Located inside the LBC Hanger, you can either have your meal at the counter/bar or join the others in the central food court dining area...or if the weather permits, enjoy the outdoor seating I just happen to pick the perfect time as I was able to get in and out fairly quickly. One of my favorite chicken sandwiches in town because of the spice levels being perfect to what I am craving. We usually go spicy hot and it never misses. The side sauce is always great as well and pair great with the fries. Service is definitely the longest out of all the places to eat and the line is always long around lunch time. Ambiance is little too crowded and busy almost all the time. Definitely aim for non peak hours to enjoy. read more

Located inside a food hall with many other restaurants to choose from. I got the Mac Daddy Sandwich and Fries. The chicken was not super crispy. Mac and Cheese was relatively tasteless, it was more so there for texture. Fries were seasoned pretty well and fairly crispy. Portion size is pretty good, as I felt quite full after the meal. I ordered medium and it was not spicy in my opinion, and I am pretty good with spice. After tax the sandwich was maybe $17 give or take Rating: Overall, I'd give this place a 4.5/10. I'll keep this review short and sweet. The food here is LEGIT! Everything is made fresh right in front of you. They season the chicken. They season the fries. The food came out hot, spicy, and flavorful! Prices are reasonable and you get generous portions. I was very impressed very impressed with how juicy the chicken filet was, they cooked it to perfection! Highly recommend you get a side of ranch and comeback sauce to go along with the food. Next time I want to try the big sexy sauce and probably will go for the hot level to really bring some kick and spice to my tastebuds! OMG!!! Tried Jay Birds chicken for the first time today and I'm OBSESSED!!!! The portions are huge so I have left overs!! The only down side is the limited seating but luckily I was able to find some empty chairs and squeezed into a table. Another downside, I'm not really a fine of lemonade or tea (which are the only drink options) so I walked around to find another drink of my liking. I would maybe even recommend bringing your own drink but I know that's not necessary since lemonade and tea are very popular and most people like it. read more

Jay Bird's Chicken - Mac Daddy Sandwich Review 2.5/5 stars I went in hyped for their signature Mac Daddy--a Nashville hot chicken sandwich topped with mac & cheese, comeback sauce, and served on a brioche bun (usually with spicy fries on the side). It's one of their most popular items, and plenty of people rave about the juicy chicken and creative twist. Unfortunately, it fell flat for me. The chicken itself was mediocre at best--decently crispy on the outside and juicy enough, but it lacked that bold, flavorful punch you expect from real Nashville hot spots. The seasoning felt muted compared to places like Howlin' Rays, Dave's, or even Prince's back in Nashville. It just didn't have the same depth or soul in the spice blend. The "hot" level was a big letdown too. I went for some heat, but there was barely any burn or lingering kick--it was more like mild cayenne vibes than anything that lives up to the Nashville hot name. Same issue with the tenders; they were fine texturally but underwhelming in flavor and spice. The mac & cheese topping was okay--creamy and cheesy--but it didn't elevate the sandwich much. Overall, it felt like a gimmicky add-on rather than a game-changer, and the whole thing came across as average fast-casual fried chicken rather than standout hot chicken. Great chicken spot inside the Long Beach Exchange. My partner turned me on to it; it's her absolute favorite hot chicken spot and while we have moved away from the LBC, admittedly we still stop in here whenever we are in the area for a doctor's appointment. Their chicken sandwiches are perfectly crispy and delish and their curly fries are out of this world. While it's not the healthiest of eats, there's something about Jay Bird's that just hits right especially after a challenging day. Definitely recommend! And if you're curious about the vibe: it's the LBX: one of the coolest venues (IMHO) and food halls in Long Beach, especially if you're an airplane nerd like myself. Check it out! read more

Great food but don't underestimate the spice, it will get ya! Jaybird delivers your typical Nashville chicken sammies with some extra heat to it. You have the options to go with a sandwich or the chicken itself and you get to choose its spice level. Spice level ranges from no spice, mild, medium, hot, very hot, and very very hot (I forgot the name they called it). Every meal comes with fries and I made the smart decision to get very spicy on an empty stomach. Very delicious sammie, BUT I WAS DYING. I almost got the most spiciest one too. Thankfully I had some sense but most my sense was out the window. On the side I got their mac n cheese, which I do really love. It's rich and creamy and white cheddar, white a lot of places don't really go that route for mac n cheese. The service was good. Nothing much to say about it. It's an in and out type of establishment. The employees were kind though and that's all that really matters. The layout of the place is located in LBX so the ambiance of it is already perfect because you can just take the food to the outdoor area and enjoy your meal while you suffer in silence (or out loud like me). I'd take the food togo if you're going to get it spicy and you don't want to publicly embarass yourself. But great place for a chicken sammie! read more

I DREAM about this chicken sandwich and have only one regret about moving away from Long Beach, is that I had to leave Jay Bird's behind. I hate to say I never try anything else when I come to the Hangar now because this is my go to! It was also my comfort food post doctor's appointments because it was so close. The sandwiches are always juicy and I can't ever not pair them with the mac and cheese (on or on the side) and an Arnold Palmer. The Lemonade is served and there's always fresh tea on the counter. The fries are crinkle cut and seasoned to perfection and my mouth is watering now just thinking of it all. The gals working are always smiling and kind and you can even sign up for a rewards system that has earned me multiple complimentary items now. Finally got a chance to visit The Hanger at LBX and after a few go-rounds, I decided on Jay Bird's Chicken because I typically love Nashville Hot Chicken. Jay Bird's chicken sandwich did not disappoint! I opted for the Baby Jay which included 4 oz. of Chicken Breast that was topped with their infamous "Comeback Sauce" as well as dill pickles on a brioche bun. I ordered my sandwich "mild" and was shocked when there was basically no kick at all! I also ordered a side of coleslaw and was wildly disappointed by the taste and realized my Baby Jay sandwich also came with coleslaw which must have been a mistake. If it wasn't a mistake, then I wish the employee would have told me before (or after) I ordered the side - particularly because I even asked her about the taste! I wish there was more mayo in the coleslaw. I did not order any sauces because they all seemed to cost extra $$$. Anyway, I thought Jay Bird's was decent and would order from here again. I love that there are so many options in The Hanger. I also liked that there was seating both inside and outside. Oh man the I thought the Blazin Fries were SOOO good! I love the blend of chicken, mac and cheese, fries, and sauce. It was a lot of food so I took half home and it was just as amazing the next day. I've had Jay Bird's before when Nashville hot chicken was first getting really popular and I definitely remember enjoying their chicken sandwich. We recently went back and tried their Blazin fries and they were sooo good!! Plus only about $9 and they're huge! My partner and I shared them and I was stuffed. The fries are crinkle cut topped with mac n' cheese, a chopped tender (we got medium spice), and comeback sauce. At first I thought it'd be overkill with the mac n' cheese on top but it works and gives it the oozy cheese flavor. Almost half way through we realized we forgot to ask for pickles! This really elevated the dish (in my opinion) and they give them for free. I would definitely order again! read more

The chicken was good I ordered mild but next time for sure I'll get medium or more, because due to the level of heat I picked there was a lack of flavor/seasoning. Jay Birds at the Hangar at LBX is the only location I've been to so far and it's always good food! Came on my lunch break and found a parking spot right out in front which is rare.. Parking at LBX can be hard, especially when it's busy, particularly during lunch. It's usually takes a few min to find a space. Jay Birds Nashville hot chicken sandwich spice levels range from plain jay to fire. I will never be a fire person lol so mild-medium is perfect for me. Sometimes the hubby does medium, or even hot. On my last visit I went with Mild since I was on my work break. Since I was Trying to be healthy instead of the fries I got side of coleslaw. But to be honest, I should have gotten the fries because the coleslaw was just ok, in fact it was pretty soggy . The meal, including my Arnold Palmer( which was the perfect blend and came with free refills) cost a little over $20. The wait time was very short maybe around 5 min max, so to get my food which was pretty fast which I appreciated being on my break. This Jay Birds is located inside LBX. They've got a few barstool seats within their space but there's also plenty of common area seating shared with other restaurants. Good sized portions and tender chicken served hot. You can choose the spice levels and between hot to their hottest is a pretty big jump. read more

I decided to give Jay Birds another try since the first time was during COVID. Now I remember why I haven't been back sooner. The sandwiches are dry and plain. With other competitors, I would just recommend you drive two more minutes down to Cluck n Blaze. The service was just okay and they had forgotten the fries for my order. This place is shared with other food vendors at the LBX Hanger so there is plenty of seating inside and outside. As for the parking, it can be tricky depending on the day you go. read more

Let's start with the food. I had the sandwich which was as delicious. I had the medium heat and it was as just the right amount of spice for me. I wasn't big on the creamy slaw, sweet pickles or their comeback sauce, but that's just me and the sandwich actually came together really well and it was delicious. The Mac n cheese wasn't my favorite, but Mac n cheese is a polarizing side. The fries are well seasoned and crinkle cut. I didn't love the comeback sauce, but the ketchup they had was fire! The service was good. Even though they were swamped, their crew took time to chat and pushed our orders at a solid pace! One suggestion, especially at a spot like the Hanger, the little pagers May come in useful instead of the number calling. It's great to have a Nashville hot chicken spot in Long Beach. My cousin and I wanted to try this spot jay birds for our first time asked the cashier for recommendations and she guided us to the most popular items. I've been wanting to try Jay Bird's since the minute it opened. My friend and I went for lunch and we were absolutely disgusted. The 2 men prepping the food were also picking receipts off the ground! Tons of risk for cross contamination. I politely explained to them that what they were doing is unhygienic. Instead of agreeing with me, they gave me a dirty look and tried to justify their actions. We left and won't return. Management: please train your employees to not pick things off the ground and handle food. We don't want to get sick! read more

I was tired of chicken places that claim to be spicy and have no heat. Jay Bird's uses Carolina Reapers for their Fire heat level, and while it wasn't unbearable it was definitely one of the hotter sandwiches I've eaten. Good pickle/coleslaw combo on top with their house sauce topped it off. Their cashier also came to our table in the middle of the food court to ask me how the sandwich was and how long our wait was today which was only about 10 minutes. As a lover of fried chicken and spicy food, this is a must have whenever I'm in Long Beach. I got the medium fried chicken, and it was delicious; some of the best fried chicken I've ever had. The chicken is nice and juicy, it has a nice kick that lingers, but not to the point of not being able to eat, and the side of Mac n cheese was off the chain. I stopped by this place a few weeks and ago while in town and Im still having cravings. I got the chicken sandwich and fries, the chicken was plump and juicy and the spice (medium) was perfect. This is such a great restaurant and location! Employees here are very friendly and helped me choose something. Their quality is amazing and it's the best chicken sandwich I've had in a long time. Chicken's tender enough and the breading with flavor is obvious enough but the entire taste doesn't quite come together. With the initial bite, breading falls apart and the chicken itself looses much of the flavor.
