Something about the fried batter here on the chicken just hits different. I can't even describe to you how perfect it is. For fried chicken it's all about the batter and seeing it online on LB Food Coma's page made me want to try it. I was on the fence on getting the tenders but pulled the trigger to try their wings. They were so crispy and I got their "country" spice level which is no spice haha. They were big wings too! The fries were also solid as well and had some paprika or some spice on top of it which was good. I would say this a pretty slept on place in Long Beach and would definitely come back. Lol, so I'm way behind on reviews, though this one originally from a review draft from 6 months ago, behind all the ton of places I wrote review drafts of on vacation a month and a half ago... this draft that was almost a complete review already. I would assume everything is mostly the same still though, other than the prices, which presumably have gone up like everything else... It's pay at the front - on a tablet, if you know what you want, though an employee is there if you need help. They're clear about the fact that everything is made fresh, so you get it in *exactly* as much time as it takes to be made, which wasn't instant, but was pretty quick. My wife got the 3 piece nugget plate for $12 - a steal at that price. The pieces are *quite* large, and they are pretty great. (She isn't a spice person, so got mild and liked them. Then took half home.) I got the $13 sandwich, which... the pieces of chicken they use for the sandwich are a bit silly, honestly. It's also a great deal, cause you get a ton of fried chicken, but it was also a bit unwieldy? By the time I was halfway into the actual sandwich part of the sandwich, it had fallen apart completely, and I had to eat it with forks (they don't have knives, so 2 forks had to do). Delicious, though. (I got a "medium" spice, which was pretty reasonable. Somewhat spicy, but it could've been a little spicier.) We also shared an order of fries - $6 for fries and a drink. The fries are solid, what you'd expect - also a huge portion (we also took a bunch of fries home for later.) I also gave them an extra $1 for an extra dip (I wanted to try their "signature sauce" as well as the ranch, which they make in-house, both great.) I also, I only discovered afterwards, also gave them another about a dollar in credit card fees, at 3%. (Disclosed, but not *obvious*.) Drinks are sadly just the usual fountain drinks, mostly soda - wish they had slightly craftier drinks, of one kind or another. (Or that they were closer to home so I could more easily get take-out. Holy chicken lol 1st timer trying this place out. The food is so flavorful and the portions match that vibe. The staff (2 lovely girls when we went) are super friendly and helpful, yes I had tons of questions. Unique to say the least. True to the Nashville vibe. This place is located in a small plaza with limited parking right next to a freeway exit. The restaurant is small to moderately sized with a couple of tables. A third of the dining room is taken up by the kitchen where you can see the workers make and package the food. To the right of the entrance is the ordering tablets along with a tip jar. There are 2 beverage machines, one containing Pepsi products and the other containing their homestyle lemonade, strawberry watermelon, and mango lemonade. The interior was clean and brightly lit with a few signs that add a bit of humor to the location. I ordered some tenders but have had their nuggets in the past with hot level spice. Order do take a while, 10-15 minutes, since they make them fresh and usually have a queue of orders. The chicken is seemingly fried, dunked in some sort of liquid (oil?) then powdered with your level of spice. It has nice crunch, a good juiciness, but an uneven coat of spice. In this way I prefer the nuggets over the tenders since there is more likelihood of missing seasoning with the tender. Hot provides a very excellent kick, and their sauce does taste pretty good (like comeback sauce). Pretty good chicken. Just a note, the fountain water tastes a little funky. When I arrived, the staff seemed a bit busy and unaware that I was there for a scheduled review, so the beginning was a little bumpy. Additionally, it took about 43 minutes for our food to arrive, which felt quite long. 10/10 The Crimson Sandwich + Fries - What truly saved the experience was the food. It was incredibly delicious. The sandwich was the biggest chicken sandwich I've ever seen in my life. It honestly felt like we got a full chicken sandwich plus a chicken strip with how much chicken we got on that patty. The chicken was perfectly fried, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The coleslaw balanced it out really well, and you can choose your preferred spice level. This is the best Nashville style hot fried chicken that I've had in LBC. Much better than Dave's. Parking at this location can be tough because of multiple restaurants. Service is quick and friendly. The prices are decent. The food is excellent. The chicken is perfectly fried and still juicy inside. I tried medium which was not hot at all, so next time I will try the hot or extra hot one. Pretty sure it would have crunched had I bitten it. After years and years of hype and social media influence, a pillar of raw onion in the middle of my Crimson Onion broke my heart. The sandwiches were delicious BUT our boxes weren't labeled so we had to play spicy chicken roulette -- which I lost, making the whole situation even more sad. I could practically hear the hot oil crackling. It was also huge. The chicken hung so far past the bun that I could have made a second sandwich with it. Most importantly, it was delicious. I chose mild since I was not sure how hot their spice levels were, and I was on my work break, so I did not want to test my limits. I guess that makes me the coward in this scenario. My coworker might be allergic to capsicum, so she chose Country Style, which has zero heat but is still full of flavor. The fries were tasty as well. They were crispy, fresh, and well seasoned, which made them a perfect complement to the sandwich. For those who care, they offer Pepsi products. I served myself a half sweet tea and half pink lemonade mix, which was the perfect drink to go with my meal. There were a few tables available, and the AC was nice and cold. That is definitely helpful if you order something super spicy. The staff were very friendly, although I think they could use a bit more help. Only two people were running the entire store during lunch. One person took orders while the other prepared them. This did not affect my visit too much, but I can see it becoming an issue if they get any busier. Everything is made fresh, and hiring at least one more person would likely improve the experience. Finally got to try this place after they added their Long Beach location--in the past several years Long Beach sort of exploded with Nashville hot chicken spots. Crimson Coward knows what it's doing and is a great addition to the arsenal! What I like is that their menu isn't overwhelmingly large, which makes it easy to choose. They mostly pretty much have tenders and some wings, although the sandwich is nice in that it is not just a tender slapped onto a bun (although they do have a slider that is that style). Something you might not see off the menu (but apparent from pictures/once you try to order) is that the tender combos etc. come with some comeback sauce, so don't accidentally order extra. Personally I got the Crimson sandwich with Hot level spicy and it is pretty spicy--kicked my ass pretty good but still tasty. Most places seem to be skimping out on the spice a little bit over the years so glad to know the spice is still potent here! I would probably stick with mild if you're afraid of going too spicy though since I can totally see medium still being pretty intense. I like that they have fried pickles which you don't see around too often; the mac and cheese was nice and creamy and pretty flavorful. I tried a piece of the waffle (you get 4 pieces with an order) and it was nice and chewy and dense--like a lot of chicken and waffles, don't expect it to be crispy! They serve it with a side of maple syrup. I ordered for pickup but eating 15 minutes later the food still tasted fresh and warm. Would definitely come back if craving Nashville hot again! If it was just the chicken, this would get a 4 star but the overall was not great. We wanted Nashville hot chicken but didn't want to drive to get Howlin Rays and I think that place in the LBX Hangar is just average. So you order on a tablet which is convenient but their tablet isn't designed to customize orders well so that was a bummer. We got the straps, cole slaw, and fried pickles. The pickles and fries were WAY over-salted. Some were inedible and others, if you rubbed the salt off were OK. That was a pretty big issue. Pretty much ruined the fried pickles for me. The cole slaw was, in contrast, super bland. Maybe my taste buds got messed up with all the salt but this was a very bland cole slaw and I don't recommend you order it. What saved this place and led to a decent rating is the chicken was very good. Really well cooked, very crispy on the outside, tender inside. The Nashville hot chicken flavors were spot on with a nice blend of heat, salt, and a little bit of sweet. Not quite Howlin Rays but better than a lot of spots around town. The restaurant is small with just a line of tables that could seat 4 per table but it's bright and a comfortable place to eat. On its own, if I had never tried Nashville chicken from other restaurants, I would say the food was really good. However, I"ve tried other places, and have to say I would suggest other places. Also the flavoring was good, but it seemed flavored only on the outside with the breading. The chicken itself was plain. We also ordered the chicken tenders with waffles. The waffles were made fresh. We ate the food at home, about 15 minutes after ordering, but the waffles came out fairly chewy. Felt almost like I was eating bread. Overall, a perfectly place to eat at. However, other places do exist, and I do prefer those other restaurants if easy to get to - Howlin' rays waffles way crispier and softer, and chicken tasted more flavorful and moist. This is a great Nashville hot chicken place in Long Beach. The restaurant has 6 tables with chairs at the kitchen for additional seating. It's very clean. Their sandwiches are huge and the price is pretty good for what you're ordering. I got the Joey-Eat-Fries which is a beast. It's stacked high and loaded with flavors. It's $17 but this order can feed 2 people even without ordering anything else. I am here for their chicken sandwhich though so I got the Crimson Sandwich. They make these as you order them. The chicken is huge, like the length of my face. It was perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside and it's only $13. That's impressive. I ordered medium spice and I could have gone higher. I also order their Crimson slider $8 with the hottest spice level, burn baby burn just to try it. It was definitely spicy.
