I'm not sure how I've never posted a review for JCD Pocha. I've eaten here so many times, whether to drink with friends or to eat a small meal with tea after work. My favorite Korean spot in the Beaverton area. We love to get the spicy seafood tofu soup, seafood pancake, and short ribs. When we are eating at the restaurant, we also order the steamed pork belly with reddish and cabbage (so good!). It is kind of hidden, parking is really tight, and it is not a secret, so either expect to wait a little bit or go during an off time. The staff is extremely friendly as well and the food comes out quick! read more

I've been coming here on and off for years and I can say without a doubt that there has never been a time I was disappointed, and for the friends and family I've introduced the place to. One of the best, if not the best, Korean food in Beaverton. Would highly recommend my go-to's: the spicy stir-fried seafood w/udon and the spicy pork bulgogi. Service is best as it can be, workers slightly understaffed yet still working with haste and a smile. Though, if you ever need something, a server will be with you at the push of a button that's conveniently at your table. The best part about it all is the EXTREMELY reasonable price. The food was piping hot and tasty. The Bulgogi Pork and Bulgogi Beef came sizzling on a platter and was pleasing to the palate. The soup came boiling and it had a authentic flavor with seafood and a light broth that wasn't too spicy. The side dishes were delicious with a variety of Kim Chee vegetables and sweet fish cake and potatoes as well as bean sprouts and lettuce. Quality over quantity. This place does not offer AYCE but the quality and price point and portion are to rave about. I especially like to gauge a Korean BBQ place on their pork belly (samgapsyeol) three layer pork belly and side dishes. Mind you not a lot of the workers here speak English but a little bit of googling images and pointing helps ALOT. I love that this place has service call buttons! Button on the side of your table to call over the server for whatever you may need, no more having to scream and flag down servers! The side dishes are definitely made by a seasoned elder because everything complimented the pork belly very well! AND THE POTATOE SIDE DISH-MAH GAWD! Crispy fried potatoes drenched in a sesame syrup but remained crunchy. Uhggggg. So. Good. The radish kimchi was mild and very crunchy, only con is they give you small portions of the side dishes so you WILL have to ask for refills often. Our server began cooking our pork belly for us, the grill used here is of the stone variety so the pork crisped up very quickly. It had a good amount of meat and fat and didn't taste gamey, it was very fresh! For $34.99 for 2 portions of pork belly w/rice and side dishes (shared by two ppl) it was a very good deal! The service is very spotty here if you're a non-Korean. For some reason this happens more often than not at Korean restaurants, and it is a huge pet peeve of mine. We're all paying customers, and therefore we should all receive the same level of attention regardless of anything. I've been a server myself and have tried to live up to my own standards on the other side of the table, so I expect the same when I go out to restaurants. Of course I understand being busy and feeling stressed, but that does mean you make eye contact, see a table further away from you flag you down, and then proceed to avoid eye contact and walk right past my table to help someone else. That's straight up rude. That little rant aside, the banchan was alright, not as many options as other places but still decent. I liked the sweet potato dish. The soft tofu soup didn't come with an egg to crack into it, I thought that was standard for Korean fare. The soup was very flavorful, though, I'll give them that. The only reason I would come back is that the prices are a couple dollars lower than nearby Korean joints. I would have to be in the right mood though to put up with the lack of service. read more

I've been here half a dozen times and each time the pork bulgogi was delicious. I've only had 3 items from the menu because when I like something, I don't like to risk getting something I don't like. I always get the pork bulgogi here. Though last time it was a little greasier than usual, it's overall so much better than 3 other Korean restaurants I went to where it was a super salty and greasy mess. Unlike the other restaurants, you can't request it less spicy unfortunately. It's way too spicy but I put up with it because the overall flavor is so tasty. I also had some soup I didn't like, and the seafood pancake because he said the latter was most popular. The pancake was not bad, but it tasted more starchy and oily, than meaty and hearty, and I prefer more seafood flavor than pancake. It should be called pancake seafood, not seafood pancake. So really the high score is for the pork bulgogi, and not much else thus far. I was really generous. read more

Took my elderly parents here to get some dinner on a Sunday night. We waited an hour for seating. As we we're waiting outside I noticed the one of the staff came outside to welcome a family inside to eat. He then preceded to tell my party that we'll get the next table. We see another party come in then another, eventually one of the staff came and told us we SHOULD have made a reservation after my elderly parents been waiting for an hour. This restaurant offers food that just makes you suspicious of their sanitary standards. In fact, the entire place is dirty and greasy, from the floor, to the seats, to the bathroom. When going to the bathroom, it's safer to do the penguin waddle so that one does not slip on their floor. The bathroom looks like a place where druggies go to get high (see photos). The food tasted either too salty or too sweet. They have consistency issues in the kitchen. I would not come back here again. read more

Came here on a Saturday night. It was pretty packed. The waiting area is/was the front door until they told us to wear at a tiny table in the middle of the restaurant. The wait was about 15-20 minutes. We ordered the rice cake, spicy squid, and bulgogi. Like every other Korean restaurant they provide you with the sides. The kimchi was very salty. We asked for refills on some of the sides and they advised us only the first refill is free, anything after costs money. So be aware! We were seated in a tiny room in the back where we could hear our neighbors conversations. It was very cramped and obnoxiously loud to be next to others while trying to have a conversation. (This could be due to the group we were next to.) The food was tasty and came out promptly. The service was also very fast as they walked around the area often even though we were seated in the back. There's a call button on your table but when I pressed it, I heard them turn it off and no one came. Not sure if it's supposed to work. I would come here again if it wasn't as busy, if there was a wait I'd explore other options in the area. read more

Highly recommend Soondubu (tofu soup) with or without seafood. Very authentic and uses a whole block of tofu- hits the spot always! Fun to share are the Bossam- either pork belly or Jokbal and Soondae. Had to have our extra gochujang. Grilled bulgogi either pork or beef tends to run sweet. Spicy is subjective; consider it not applied. Service is fast. Consider it a good day if you don't have to wait long for a table. read more

I just moved to Beaverton so I'm not sure if this place used to be good before Covid. Given the good ratings, my guess is that Covid caused JCD to lose all their cooks, or a little-known side symptom of Covid is that it makes you forget how to cook Korean food. My annoyance is across multiple dimensions. I'll start w the least egregious. The kalbi was ok. Not bad, not good. Just ok. Next, we ordered 4 entrees. We got 2 sets of side dishes. Maybe Covid also makes you forget how to do math. 4 doesn't equal 2. The side dishes we got were weird. My Korean grandmom and mom have never made me sweet semi-fried cold potatoes. The portions were small. The small amount of kimchee they provided was good, but given that this is a taste outlier, I'd reckon a guess that they outsourced this to Koreans and bought pre-made kimchee. Let's get to where I drop this from 3 stars to 2. 2 of the 4 dishes weren't right. The best way to explain this is that, say you ordered a chicken sandwich, but got a mediocre hamburger. Or you ordered a chicken soup, but you got watery clam chowder. Well, specifically, we ordered army stew and potato stew. We got a kimchee-like light broth w some korean-esque ingredients. Once again, not horrendous, but not really what we ordered. I honestly would have just chalked all this up a simple loss and not even bothered w a review, but lastly, the most egregious item: the tofu soup was the worst tofu soup I've ever tried. It literally had no flavor. Not in an exaggerated way. It was strange. It was like they heated up water and added food coloring and tofu ONLY. How can you sleep at night knowing you just sold tofu water w food coloring and called it soon doo boo. As a Korean-American who is proud of our cuisine, this is a PSA: this food does not represent us. read more

After hearing great things about JCD, figured I give this place a shot. Food Quality: 4 STARS. Got the dukbokki and bulgogi entrees. Bulgogi was solid, can't really mess that up. Dukbokki was average, nothing special. 6 banchan sides, all pretty solid comparable to other korean places. Service: 1 STAR. Arrived with my friend around 10 pm on a Saturday night, placed was packed. It took several minutes for someone working there to even greet us. A middle aged man (probably the owner - I would personally give him NEGATIVE STARS for his terrible/lack of service) finally came and said we needed to sign in on the clipboard despite no one else waiting in front of us and there was an OPEN table for 2. Finally he decided to seat us after waiting 5 minutes, then didn't even give us any menus. I had to go grab the menus myself; after sitting down for several minutes he told us we needed to switch tables with these two other guys, so he moved us to the backroom. Probably giving preference to Korean speaking customers to sit in the main room, just from my observation all of the non-speaking korean customers were in the back room. At least the younger waiter (shout outs to him). was relatively attentive compared to the middle aged man. Overall: If I could do half stars, 2.5 STARS. I would come back again as a late night option deeming I am craving korean food. read more

I waffled a lot on this because I very rarely boost a rating because of good service but I'm quick to reduce one for bad service. Is it fair? Probably not. I came to this restaurant a loooong time ago and I don't think it was djk but it was Korean. I ended up in the back room and received horrible service. Like a glitch in the matrix I'm back in the back room again One thing that infuriates me when I go to a restaurant is if the function of the staff is merely keeping me from getting the food from the kitchen myself. Our waiter (who was at least friendly) took the order brought the food and eventually the check after I asked for it. Maybe I'm being unreasonable. The meat was very well seasoned and cooked. The gochujang was a little spicier that I like it but definitely their own. Only one inedible piece of gristle. That's a win. A little expensive but such is the trend these days. The sides were big disappointment. Bean sprouts that were basically plain and raw. Gross. I like cucumbers but didn't get any. Maybe I was supposed to ask. I hate that too, when I don't get what other patrons get because I didn't ask. I definitely did not get the same sides as other people I saw as I walked out. I have my Korean go tos elsewhere. The first place I ate after I landed in Portland. From what I heard it is an old school Korean food specializing in home comfort food. It was very interesting since I only experienced Korean bbq style on the east coast. Also, I landed in Portland pretty late and they were open. It is a small family restaurant and the food warm my stomach from the long flight. My group ordered: soondaebokkeum, which is a spicy blood sausage stir-fry, cheese rapokki, which is rice cakes and ramen noodles in a sweet and spicy sauce topped with cheese (suppose to be comfort food or hangover food), the mul naeng myeun, which is cold noodles, and gamjatang, a pork bone and potato soup. read more

We arrived here pretty early for dinner, around 5:30 and the waitress was welcoming us. We ordered two dishes: bibimbap and short rib along with the side dishes can get us full. The quality of the bibimbap was not the same as before. I felt like they overcooked the rice, it was too watery with notting special for $12. I loved Korean short rib so this is my go to dish whenever I had a meal in Korean restaurant. But the taste was not there yet this time. When entering the restaurant I was disappointed that it wasn't a cook your own BBQ kinda place. Ordered the galbi, bulgoki,and chicken and some Jap chae. There were also some banchan items like 6 of them but wished they had more. The BBQ was very good! Very flavorful except won't order the chicken maybe pork next time. This place I would of gave 5 stars, but they never refilled our free tea, and we never saw them again after they gave us our food. They didn't even ask if we wanted any more of banchan. The seafood pancake here is delicious, possibly the best I've had around this area. Crispy edges with plenty of filling. The potatoes apart of their sides are so good as well - I've never had them made this way at any korean restaurant and I am a fan of how they are fried vs. boiled. The kimchi and daikon had good flavor to them as well and I loved the dressing on the banchan salad. I also got the soft tofu soup and while not as flavorful as others I've had although they did give plenty of tofu in the soup. Probably wouldn't get again though. The service was great and friendly and I really like that they don't bother you unless you need something in which you would press the button on the table. I think JCD has become my new favorite place for korean food in the Beaverton area. read more

This was our second visit here. The first time we came at 11:30pm with our friend who pretty much ordered for us being that we are newbies to the Korean food. That experience was amazing! We loved everything, including the seafood pancake! Last time, my hubby and I came for date night alone. All we wanted was something to be cooked at our table! So we selected the udon noodles with steak and octopus. We wanted to be adventurous so we picked half and half! Octopus was interesting! Chewy but great! Delicious Korean food in a place that feels more like you're visiting your auntie's house for an impromptu meal in her kitchen. The service is understandably sparse since the cooks are busy in the kitchen, but you come here for the food anyway. There's a call button if you do need anything or are ready to order. As for the food, most of what we had was pretty good - dolsot bibimbap, beef bulgogi, chicken bulgogi, kimchee pancake, dumpling soup, sundubu spicy tofu stew, and jap chae. One of my go-to places in Beaverton to grab Korean food (besides my own home). Let me start out by saying that the service/wait used to be pretty bad, but in the last several months, it has improved significantly as some of the staff has changed. They are more attentive, and it doesn't take as long for food and service. Now, on to the food... THE SOUPS - Sullungtang: Great for a cold winter day, or when you're feeling sick. It's beef broth with slices of beef and noodles served in a stone bowl (dol sot) with rice. Add some salt and a bit of red pepper paste for some spice. This soup never disappoints. - BudaeJjigae Jungol: The ingredients are so simple and common (spam, sausage, rice cakes, fish cakes, noodles, kimchi) but are so good when they're thrown together in a big sauce-pan-looking-thing with this spicy broth. A good soup to share with a couple people. - Dwaenjang Jjigae: Pretty solid. Lightly spicy because of the jalapeños. Also served in the stone bowl. -Soondae Jjigae: If you like soondae (pig/cow intestine sausage -- trust me, it's not as gross as you may think), this is a great soup to get that has a similar broth to the Sullungtang. ENTREES - Haemul Pajun (seafood pancake): Actually pretty big, so it's a good one to share. Stuffed with different kinds of seafood, and lightly crispy on the outside. - Dakbulgogi: Tastes similar to chicken teriyaki, without the teriyaki sauce. I like the quality of the chicken because it doesn't get dry. - Bossam: One of my favorite dishes here, mainly because I love the combination of the steamed pork slices, with the steamed bokchoy and the garlic and dwaenjang. - Soondae: This dish is consistently good when I order it. Be warned, you may leave the restaurant with the smell of Korean food immersed in your clothes and hair (since there is Korean bbq available here), but I think that's pretty normal for a Korean restaurant. read more

This is a great place to go for that late night Korean food fix, and when we got our food, it was absolutely delicious. The bulgogi, kalbi, kimchi and generous sides were all excellent and well worth the long wait. The service was very slow since a single waitress was pretty much in diner dash mode waiting on a full house of tables all at once. She was trying, but they really need to get another person to help out! Also, I found the location to be divey and the space was a bit cramped, so it's probably best to not bring a huge crowd with you.
