    Teriyaki chicken with Mac salad
    Frank C.

We stopped by for a quick Friday lunch, the place was about 1/3 to half filled. The ambience is rustic and not all that different from Big's chicken from what I recall. The arcades are kinda cool, I can see how this turn into a HH spot later in the day. I got the non alcoholic Pina colada, since it's a work day and we had to get back to that after, and a teriyaki chicken, figured let's start the basics. The drink was immediately handed to me, and the food came out reasonably fast. The Pina colada was decorated nicely, the drink itself was solid, I'll need to get the alcohol version next time. The teriyaki chicken was cooked and prepared well, I really like the vinegar/ginger/garlic mixture that's on the table (just guessing the ingredients), it really pairs well and the acidity balance the sweetness from the teriyaki. Wife ordered a shoyu chicken sandwich, and we thought it had a lot of flavor despite being a bit on the dry side. This was a decent meal, not sure if I would pick ate-oh-ate over roxys or 808 grinds, but definitely wouldn't mind going back.

8/29/2024 - I love their art work and logo design.

A friend brought me here for dinner. I really only got into Hawaiian food thanks to friends from the islands so I am not in the know for authentic. The very sweet guy at the counter was great as we were complex getting an order to go for her husband and me being completely clueless as to all the things. I was happy she clued me in on the slushies and we both tried them both. Lime and coconut were the two and they were both made with coconut milk, having that creaminess. Delicious! I was getting brain freeze though - it was pretty hot out and I just cannot do super cold when I am super hot. Delicious as they were I had to just get a Mexican coke with a big old cup of ice. My friend grabbed a slushie and added a shot to it which you can do! The food was great - I tried her Kahlua pork which was great. I got the teriyaki chicken and the chicken katsu - both were very good though the BBQ sauce served with the katsu was a lot more liquid and vinegar forward that I like so I used their teriyaki sauce. Their mac salad is a lot more sweet than previous experiences at other places and my friend said that they use a lot more pineapple. It is very creamy and I did like it. What I was not a fan of was the butter mochi cake but I am not a fan of that texture which I think is correct. I could see people liking it but I just find the sticky tacky texture to be unappealing so you might love it!

Lunch for two $34.90 plus tip

We've been meaning to come here for a while but they are always closed when we leave the farmers market. Today, we got to the market late so we're able to give this place a try. I ordered the Big Salad with grilled tofu. My husband ordered the 2 choice plate of grilled Korean chicken and mochiko chicken. These are two Hawaii staples we miss. Salad was $13.95 and two choice plate was $17.95. Not bad considering the price of food lately. Sparkling water was $3. Restaurant is fairly large with lots of seating inside and out. You could probably bring your dog if you sit outside. One thing I noticed outside and appreciated was the pikake growing on the fence. Nice touch! Reminds me of home even more! Counter girl was pleasant but didn't go out of her way to create conversation. She spent more time talking with the guy behind the counter with her but that didn't affect our service. Five TVs inside showing mostly sports and of course you can buy beer and other alcoholic beverages, plus Hawaiian Sun. Background music was pop and I notice my husband singing along so that was another plus. Now for the food - it was good! The Korean chicken had a lot of ginger which made it really tasty. Mochiko chicken tasted like my mother-in-law's so five stars! If I deducted anything it would have been for the rice that was slightly hard. Need to more water when cooking

Don't know why this place is only rated 3 stars! Got the hawaiian plate split with katsu chicken and korean spicy chicken, and while I'd rate the whole plate above average, the korean chicken was particularly delicious delicious, and had a ton of flavor. Not to mention the price to portion ratio was pretty generous! We were also pleasantly surprised when, having come in a half hour before close, the kind lady cleaning up for the night generously gave us some extra spam musubi, which was also very solid. This was a clean, chill, and cozy hawaiian spot right in the middle of beaverton, with great service and delicious food, I'll definitely be coming back!

I read some reviews before coming here, and saw sort of a mixed bag. As such, I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but I have to say, what I ate was quite good. So I'll start there - I ordered half Mochiko Chicken and half Grilled Teriyaki Chicken with rice and Mac salad. That food was GOOD. Moist teriyaki, crunchy mochiko. I was very happy. The less stellar side was what my friend got. The Poke Bowl was... odd. The fish was good, but the lettuce chunks were huge, and felt like an odd addition. The spam musubi was okay but somewhat dry. I would recommend this spot for the chicken dishes! I really liked what I had and would come back for that.

Nice job on the menu change, I will miss the giant fried Chicken sandwich from Bigs. We really loved the two items we ordered, the Korean style chicken with Macaroni salad and a green salad side hit the spot. The dish is spicy, not to spicy that you want to pass this dish up, it had a lot of flavor and the serving size was easily enough for two. The second dish was a curry bowl with katsu chicken, a very nice blend, very filling and a lot of flavor. The inside of the location has not changed other than a more island theme. We ordered takeout and when we arrived the food was ready for us. Make sure to ask for some side dipping sauces they compliment the food. I am not following some of the other reviews. We will stop by again to continue to try the rest of the menu, we noticed some poke bowls to spam masubi.

If you were a fan of Big's chicken then I'm sure you could probably relate to the slight heart attack I had when I saw that their location in Beaverton was suddenly changed to "Ate-Oh-Ate"... thankfully it's the same owner and their food was still good. Got their mochiko chicken plate, which is always my go-to at any Hawaiian restaurant that will offer it--it was good, good breading and good fry on it, and went well with the Mac salad. Their teriyaki chicken also had good flavor. Restaurant is casual and chill, and has the same set up and FCFS seating like Big's had. Sounds like my take on it is a little more positive than what others are saying but *shrug* I had a positive experience!

My finance wasn't crazy about the loco moco plate

I think Ate-oh-Ate might be one of the more controversial businesses in Beaverton. People have strong opinions about the closing of the Beaverton location of Big's Chicken and, it seems, strong feelings about the food at Ate-oh-Ate. With all of that in mind, we wanted to check it out ourselves. Our first impression: the restaurant looks about the same aside from some cosmetic changes like a newly painted mural and different furniture. The overall layout is the same as Big's. We ordered the loco moco and Kalua pig plates. I liked the Kalua pig as the pork was smoky, tender, and not overly soggy or salty. I wish the Mac salad would be creamier, but overall I liked it. My fiancé ordered the loco moco and he wasn't crazy about it. He said it's "different" because it had a strong mushroom flavor like a cream of mushroom soup. As an Asian American, the mushroom taste didn't bother me, but I can see why it would be surprising for loco moco. We also ordered a slice of the butter mochi cake, and it was chewy, buttery, moist, and fluffy all at the same time. It was quite yummy I must say. Overall, I liked my Kalua pig plate and the butter mochi dessert. I would recommend both dishes.

This was my first time trying Ate Oh Ate and it was just alright. Nothing I ate was stand out delicious. We came on a week night so ordering was fast and the food came out quick. I got a Frozen Limeade and a Mochiko Chicken Plate. The limeade was very icy so the lime flavor was a bit too subtle. The Mochiko Chicken was crispy and juicy but not that flavorful. There were several sauces on the table that you could add to your plate but all of the sauces were just okay, one of which I couldn't put my finger on what it was.

As far as food goes, this place is top notch way better than any other Hawaiian place in the area. Teriyaki chicken macaroni salad delicious. Their Spam musubi are far above average. They add egg and sesame seeds. To be honest they are almost a small meal in themselves.. When it comes to the staff, you can tell they enjoy what they do. The two ladies are always friendly and kind even when they are slammed.. The gentlemen are equally as friendly.

Came here on day 2. So good! My favorite is the Korean chicken. Grilled and a Spicy Korean red sauce. Love it. The pork wasn't quite as good as the Burnside location. I'll give them a pass for it being day 2. The teriyaki chicken hot ravs, as did the Mochico chicken. So glad they are in beaverton @

Big's was gone so we decided to try the place that took its spot. Katsu sauce tasted like A1, breading on chicken was subpar & not crispy, but the meat itself was so dry. Curry was really good, I really liked the veggies in it, too. They nailed their macaroni salad, but the main part of the dish was such a disappointment that I don't think we'd eat here again.

Visiting Portland, and saved a video of this place on IG! I was craving spam musubi and thought this would be the perfect place to go to! Upon entering, I enjoyed the lovely aquarium mural located on the wall, it was really cute and the colors went well together and brightened up the place! For the food, my partner and I ordered spam musubi, katsu pork sandwiches, loco moco, and a limeade slush! Here's the review of the food: Spam Musubi: It was interesting that they cut the musubi diagonally and it was plated in a sophisticated way. It tasted decent, but I have had better in Hawaii. Our musubi had egg in it which was good, but I wished it had more sauce and more flavor to it. For my preference, I would have preferred my musubi whole. Katsu Pork Sandwiches: The katsu pork was definitely crispy but my partner and I agreed that it was missing some seasoning and that the pork had no taste and wasn't as juicy. The bread was soft and fluffy, and we had slaw to the sandwich but wished we had more sauce and slaw to it since the Katsu Pork looked a bit thin and not as thick. The mac salad paired with this sandwich was good, I will say. If you are ever in the Bay Area and want a Katsu Sandwich, Bread N' Chu does a good job and they have other sandwiches that taste really good! Loco Moco: I really like that I had two runny eggs, who doesn't love more eggs! The Loco Moco had a different taste than what I am used to, since the curry had a different taste and I felt it did not suit the dish. I prefer the L&L Hawaiian Loco Moco (I am from Northern CA) and still remember the curry and how it complemented well with the rice and patty. Limeade slush: I am not sure if it is dependent on the person that makes it but our limeade slush was so sour I found it hard to finish and ended up getting a glass of water instead. If you like alcohol in your drinks they can add a shot to the slush, for extra money! Overall, the food was decent and the cashier was nice, but I don't find myself going back often or craving it.
