I'm not one to review big chain stores like JC Penney but I just have to mention my experience. When attempting to pay for my $150 purchase using my business amex card I was told that you are either a) not allowed to pay with a business card (with my name on it ) or b) only allowed to return 50% of a purchase using a business card. These two conflicting policies seemed to go unnoticed by the guy who was ringing me up. Any further questions were answered with a 'you can go downstairs and talk to the manager', when I asked the managers name HE DID NOT KNOW IT. I've been shopping at Jc Penney for 20 years and in the later years the customer service has gotten SO bad it's not even worth going there anymore. I placed 3 online orders just in May plus a store purchase which equaled to $187 then I needed to exchange two items because these days the sizes are off. First woman at the .com desk, a russian woman who looked she was going to kill someone, didn't have a damn clue on how to do it, and kept sighing loud, huffing & hissing, telling me one bs after another, finally she calls a manager & I said it's just an even exchange, she took care of it & the russian had her back turned the whole time didn't even bother learning so that she can do a better job next time. Afterwards, we found out we needed to order a size up for an item from our pick up order, went to the .com desk again, waited in line while another customer was taking her sweet time not realizing the store's going to close soon, finally it was our turn & at the end I simply asked if the order could come to my home instead of the store because of the other item being shipped to my home free so we wouldn't have to go to the store just for one item. The guy helping me said it would need authorization....he called someone, named Zuly, she came & after finding out, she said the system won't let me( it does, they've voided the shipping before because Those workers know what customer service is & how to appreciate them) I told her that I had already spent way over the amount for free shipping then she humiliated me in front of everyone by saying " you're here last( we waited in line, not our fault while there was only one cashier) & you're trying to get something for nothing and are causing problems! I said "Thank you for insulting me; do you know how much money I spend here? I just asked because if it's over a certain amount then u get free shipping & we had to wait in line, it's not our fault we're last. She didn't even bother listening & kept talking over me the whole time. The employees don't know how to do a simple even exchange & I have to explain to them how it's done, I'm the bad person? So many times they've depleted my points to the point it went under zero! and made mistakes that caused me hours & hours of dealing with their God forsaking horrible customer service, causing me stress & getting me sick all because the a*holes who are running JCPenney don't know how to train & hire decent workers, who don't know what great customer service means & that the CUSTOMERS are paying their paychecks & who've never see any consequences from their superiors! And all this happened next to the manager who was helping another customer & never said a word to her! By the way Zuly, I'm going to report you to the superior & the head office, let's see how your smug face will take it then. This location is absolute trash. I went to purchase a watch a few weeks ago, and the band was too large, so I went back to the jewelry dept today (12/16) to have a part of it removed. I went to employee A and she told me that she couldn't help me because employee B was the one who performed the transaction for me when I first went here. That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. If you're able to perform this task for me (which she was), why couldn't you just do it? Y'all all had the same damn training. I left the store because they were also busy and decided to come back 30 min later, only to run into the same discriminating employee A who told me, again, that she couldn't perform the action for me because employee B did the transaction. Employee A and B got into it, and the manager eventually came. She talked with both of them, and employee A was forced to fixed my watch. Employee A continued to complain, claiming that she was not suppose to do this, even though she had the capability and training. I don't know what the hell is going on over there, but all I know is that I was unrightfully caught in the middle of it and my time was wasted. I got some truly great deals on Levis 505 blue jeans this past Friday as well as on some other items I needed to buy. The store manager was greeting people and asking them about wether they found what they needed or were looking for and the cashiers I dealt with were very friendly as well. The lines were long but were running smoothly and I didn't have to wait longer than expected. I don't visit or shop at this JC Penney store on a regular basis but I will say that I got some very good deals here and that it does deserve a 5-star rating based on the prices and the customer service I received. read more

JC Penney Online (posting here because JC Penney declined to post review on their website--censorship!) We just purchased the Haier bottom mount 15 cu. ft. refrigerator from JCPenney (ordered online). There is a lot to like about the fridge--sleek looking, nicely designed, compact yet spacious. We picked it because of the size and because the doors are reversible. Unfortunately, ice is accumulating in the freezer and we've only had it for two days. This may be because JCPenney's delivery techinician did not do a good job of reversing the door? (He did tell us that the brackets to reverse the doors did not have grease on them and this might stop the doors from closing properly. We are still waiting for a repair person to attend to this). JCPenney's service has been abysmal. We've had multiple problems. 1) Although our receipt indicated the door hinges needed to be reversed, the first delivery technician was unable to do so and took the refrigerator back. 2) The second time the refrigerator was delivered the technician was able to reverse the door hinges, but told us the brackets needed grease and we should call JCPenney. 3) We did as instructed. The JCPenney phone representative told us that someone would call us back that day to set up a repair appointment. No call that day or the next. 4) When we called JCPenney again, the phone representative thought we had purchased a dryer and had never heard of Haier--doesn't JCPenney have adequate records of what they deliver? 5) In the meantime, ice is building up in the freezer and the refrigerator door is not closing properly. read more

On 12/14/20 I bought a $230.00 necklace set for my daughter as a Christmas present and when she opened it it was broken. My wife went to the store to exchange or get another one on 12/26/20 and she was denied (only 12 days later). The customer service employee (Lorraine) told my wife that JCPenney (Lakeland) will not accept the return nor give back her money, all she could do is to send it for repairs. Good evening and I hope all is well. I placed an order 2021178411375168 on June 27 in the amount of $340.97 All 4 (instead of 5) items arrived separately. Order 4 of 5 never arrived (queen size 3pc bedroom set) instead I received a 2pc porcelain dish. I spoke with customer service 2 different times after receiving the porcelain dishes concerning this error and was assured my comforter was in route. Today, July 15th after not receiving my merchandise, I was finally informed there was nothing J.C. Penney could do except charge me for another comforter and I could either take the wrong product to a location my self or wait for a return label and send it back, NO IMMEDIATE REFUND FOR THIER MISTAKE! -NO ACCOUNTABILITY ON THEIR PART. The place is pretty clean, but there is always a long line to check out. I found that online order is cheaper than buying in a store, so I ordered the same day pickup online, but they didn't prepare my items on the same day, so I couldn't pick up. If I can give -1 star, I would have. Do not come here! None of the people that work here wants to help! I came after work to do some holiday shopping and I approached 3 ladies that works in the active wear department and not 1 is willing to help! The first lady I asked for assistance to help find a small size told me to go in line at checkout to find out because she does not have a scanner. The 2nd lady at the checkout told me yeah we have 4 in stock but they should be out on the floor. I tried scanning on the floor but cannot for the life of me find the size small. I think I may be one of the few women who actually HATE going to the mall, allot of my shopping is done via on line, or I go strictly to 3 main stores. I came into JCPenney looking for some Superbowl gear and of course everything was sold out, but as I browsed around. I found an entire section of USC gear hats,t-shirts, sweatshirts, beanies ,everything for both men and women at 50% off!!! oh and there was at other college near brentwood as well, so I had to stock up on my tailgating gear for next season, the majority of NFL gear was all geared towards Raiders ( I'm not even going to go there!) along with Lakers as well. It must be all about supply and demand, and the clientele that shop at JCPenney. Either way I'm set for next season. read more

The customer service at this store is beyond awful. Store policy over same day pickup is awful as well. Just called the store and it took over 10 minutes to get an answer. When I finally reached someone, I asked them about an order I had placed for same day pickup more than 2 hours ago, and good lord was this lady a straight up bitch. She couldn't find my order through my phone number, told me that I should shop at Amazon instead of Jcpenney because they don't do same day orders, and said I was wrong when their store policy through their .com and email i was sent told me my order would be ready in under 2 hours. Negative stars for JCPENNEY PORTRAITS Glendale location! It became a tradition for me and my family to do our Christmas photos with JCPenney ever since we had the best experience ever with our 3 year old and we've done it at Northridge and Santa Clarita and booked this year's at Glendale and didn't even get to finish our shoot. First of all, the old asian lady managing it was extremely rude. She first checked us in and then made us give her some kind of "story line" of having the family photographed then having one or two of us photographed or just "mom with baby" or "dad with kids" when we told her we wanted all photos with all 4 of us, yet she still made us try to shoot that way for her "story line" ...something we've never had to do ever before. Then we get booked with someone, a young Caucasian male, who just started in November and when we tell him congrats on the job, he responds with "Heh heh, now I can stop photographing my toys." We thought it was just a really bad joke and laughed it off awkwardly, but he was actually serious because he was horrible! Didn't even try to make our little baby look at him. He was actually scaring our baby! Then he shot the shots while my baby was crying anyway and kept saying "I'll take it" and "good enough" He tried to force us to put our 7 month old in one of those newborn box props when we specifically said we wanted to do the gift boxes with the family instead and he told us he was instructed to do this so he had to take a couple of shots. My little one kept trying to climb out so it obviously wasn't going to work. It was to a point where my little one became so frustrated, we asked for a 5 minute break. The photographer said he couldn't allow it because he was on a time crunch. He said 1 minute would already give him a write up. I couldn't believe it! I have never had such a horrible experience! The other family getting photographed was allowed to take a whole breastfeeding session break (I've also had the chance to do this at Northridge when my first born was fussy) and I couldn't even take a 5 minute break and this was the photographer's fault for making our baby cry! We asked to see if any of the photos even turned out okay and he refused to show us any so we didn't have it. My husband complained to the front and one of the girls immediately apologized and said they can bring our one of their best photographers instead to take care of us and make sure we leave happy. We were more than happy to wait and try again. Until the first lady in the front ruined it. She came up to us and told us she got her best photographer to "help" our current one instead. She also BLAMED our 7 month old saying that he wasn't paying attention! She told us it was our baby's fault?!?!? We couldn't believe it. It was then that we decided we needed to leave. It literally was the worst experience ever. We had had the most wonderful photographers in the past who have easily made our babies smile, laugh or at least look at the camera...this one scared our baby and then blames us! Such a horrible experience. Worried about getting people in and out, not actually caring about what the customers want. We couldn't even pick what kind of poses and props we wanted to use! Will be complaining about this as much as possible because it wasted our whole day. We got our make up done, outfits ready, drove out to Glendale, etc! Then I called over 10 different JCPenney's from Santa Clarita to San Bernardino to try and schedule a last minute shoot but every place was completely booked. Worst customer service experience ever. I don't know where to begin seriously! I did think JCpenney was deteriorating little by little, but this was the cherry on top no doubt. I went in today to shop with my mother while passing through JCpenney my mom saw something that caught her eye. I told her to get it. As I was standing in line I had a paper in my hand with the offers and deals of the day. Ps I never really shop there I was just curious to see what they had going on. I'm in the men department minding my business when this individual calls me over so she can ring me. She loudly says you can't use that coupon. I told her looking at her in the eye "I wasn't going to". Don't assume only because you see something in my hand lady. She tells me the total I swipe my card, she bags my item and gives me her back to gossip with her coworkers and hands me the bag without even acknowledging I'm standing there. I get the bag from her hand and approach a young employee and ask her to speak to her manager. She asks why! Well honey because your fellow coworker has no manners and knows nothing about customer service. She played dumb and whatever my mom told me to not give her ignorant presence much attention therefore I left the store forever. Ordered bathroom rugs to be delivered. 2 white and 2 mauve. Opened the package and had a dark grey. Really? Took the wrong rug back to the store and was told it would be shipped to me the next day no charge. Never received the rug the next day and tracked it and it said three days later. Also, ordered a dark gray bed skirt which was supposed to be here in 2 days got it today, four days later, and it was Green. JCPenney obviously has no quality control, and really doesn't care about their customers. I will never order and or shop there again!! read more

I went in to pay my bill let me just start by saying the guy who is working on the third floor at register today could use some training on his people skills .. I told him I wanted to pay my bill and he says to swipe my card or put in my social ..
