My daughter last minute wanted a haircut and we happened to be near the salon so we asked if they had any walk in appointments. They squeezed us in right away and did an amazing job taking in what my daughter wanted and telling her what would and wouldn't work. The price was really reasonable and her hair turned out amazing. I had recently found out that JCPenney has a salon! I had gotten balayage done on my hair months ago and my mistake was not going in for a consult beforehand because I have thick hair and a lot of it so the hair stylist told me she would try and finish as much of my hair as she could. A huge chunk of my hair in the back was not finished and it looked a little weird when I would push my hair forward. It was almost impossible to book another appointment and it was incredibly expensive, given that my hair was not finished. I researched what kind of styles they can do and I looked through the pictures here on Yelp. I really liked one of the stylist's work and I contacted her. Her name is Precilla and she was really nice and understanding. She had me come in for a free hair consult. She explained what the process was going to be and she agreed on trying to get all the yellowish brassiness out of my hair and finishing my whole head of hair. I made an appointment with her a month after the consult and she made sure to have the 4 1/2 hours set for me. She was able to get through all of my hair and it was incredibly bleached (which is good.) she then toned it and added some color to my roots to blend it and I LOVED the end result! My hair isn't too damaged and the color is perfect for my skin tone, which she thought was really important! Also, the price for it was so much better than the last place I went! read more

Ran Into an Instagram page of a hairdresser at this salon & I felt I could trust them with my hair. I went in with virgin hair and ended up with green highlights(I had asked for a balayage) I have fine hair, low density & at a shoulder length. Was quoted $120 starting point ended up with a bill of $250 because of the "product that was used." Being a fellow stylist I know that NOT much product was used on my hair type. I was seen by Samantha N for the first time at this salon in October. Not only did Samantha get me into the salon on very short notice, but was the most affordable stylist I have been to in years. I also have not been happier with my hair in YEARS. Samantha took my hair from a gross, grown out blonde color to a beautiful dark shade of brown - exactly what I explained I wanted. Months later, I texted Samantha asking for advice about what product she would recommend to repair breakage (from previous bleaching/coloring/flat ironing) that frames my face. She sent me an in depth description of products that she has used personally, and that were affordable! (A different stylist recommended a shampoo/conditioner combo that was over $60 for bottles that were only 8oz each!!!!) I ended up with one of the products that she recommended and am beyond satisfied. After seeing Samantha, my hair hasn't looked better or felt healthier. So I wanted a black/purple dye and ended up with all my back under hair a gross orange/red. Werid tiny stripes of it on top and none really anywhere else. It looks awful! The girl that did my hair kept answering the her personal cellphone. I guess her baby was at home crying and her boyfriend couldn't take it so she rushed through my cut and stated she couldn't do the blow-dry. I blow dryed my own hair and left. We waited around the mall all day for an afternoon appointment. They had my telephone number. They claim they tried to call me and then later claimed that they actually couldn't get through when they tried to call me. Either way they said that they could not see me even though I had an appointment. It was for my son's hair cut a child's haircut, and I know they had other clients, which probably were willing to pay more money for their haircuts so they didn't really care about our business. Very unprofessional, I would avoid at all costs. I suggested making the next appointment wait instead, but the stylist Nikki refuse to do it. It was a Monday and I was tired of having my hair hacked off at places like Great Clips. I couldn't find anywhere else that was open so I called up JC Penney's and made an appointment for a haircut an hour later. I got there and James introduced himself as my stylist. I was very pleased with the service as for $25 I got my hair washed and some actual TIME spent on my hair. James has been cutting hair for over thirty years and really seemed to know his stuff. I've taken my daughter here twice. The first time was when they were offering a Back to school special for grades 1-6 in August. My rating is not based on that. I found out later that the stylists' schedule was slammed and they were given a max of 25 minutes per cut. ******UPDATE (January 2015): Stephanie no longer works here. She is at Rock, Paper, Scissors Salon on 4th street - a cute boutique salon. We went yesterday and my daughter had a wonderful experience! ****************** On our second visit to the salon, Stephanie cut her hair. It took me several months to gain the composure I needed to write this review. Plesse beware if you are visiting this salon, especially if you're considering booking with  Yvette Serrato abrica. Not only did I receive a terrible, uneven, butchered pixie cut, that most closely resembled the shape of a mushroom, but my color service was a complete disaster too! In all fairness, I have never written a negative review on a stylist, and with the right customer service, I believe even a terrible haircut could have been somewhat salvaged, had Yvette conducted herself in a professional manner and been kind and apologetic. Bare in mind, I requested a short bob haircut and received a cut that was layered above my ears. I requested a root touch up for my cherry blonde hair and left with dark hair. I brought in picture's and they has my color formula on file from a very excellent stylist there, whom I visited in the past. I requested Yvette stop cutting my hair, as I had already given her the opportunity to fix the cut to match the picture, and I had almost no hair left. I never raised my voice, or was disrespectful, I simply said I was sad my hair was so short and requested to speak with a manager to resolve the situation. Not only was a manager nor there on that occasion, or the other 3 times thereafter I visited to voice my concerns, but then Yvette cussed at me and told to "Get the F*&k out of the salon," when I refused to pay for the haircut or color service , which were both a disaster. She also told me, "I was f&***** rude," when I said I was not happy with the color or cut. I literally cannot believe the way I was treated, especially when I was remaining so calm throughout the fiasco. I left in tears and told her I cannot believe she treats people that way. A manager called me to say sorry and offer to fix service, but I will never step foot in there again. I have spent hundreds on cuts to fix the first one, hair extensions etc. What is even sadder than the terrible way my hair was ruined , was her disrespectful, downright vicious attitude. Not a fan. For about 3 or so years, this was 'my salon', but in that time I've been the victim of a sad circumstances: high turn-over. Now, I haven't been to this salon in about 8 months or so, but the last several stylists I've been referred to have been horrid. I had seen several people before finding a dream come true, Kelly. She was friendly, reasonably priced, and did an amazing job on both color and cuts. However, she moved, and it never was the same. I have never had a problem with any of my hair color there, thankfully, but my haircuts...not good. The stylists are really hit-or-miss, and the unfortunate part is you won't often notice their ineptitude until post-cut. It seems like the really good ones leave. The last woman I went to (a supposed 'senior stylist' who had received some award, from what I could see at her station), completely HACKED one side of my hair...and some how 'never noticed', even when every other person clearly could tell my hair was uneven. I even went back, and what did she do? Hack off more on the uneven side. That was the last straw. I have seen James, and I would highly recommend him for color, but the last few haircuts I'd had with James left something to be desired. He is really a nice guy, friendly, and goes out of his way to help, but I just can't have my hair cut by him again. JC Penny has reasonable prices but it's really not worth it in the long run. High-lights and color are about the same as anywhere else in Santa Rosa (except for those super-upscale places), so I'd recommend looking elsewhere. One bonus is that this salon tends to be open more hours than your regular salon. I think at one point they were open til 8 or so, but that may have changed. read more

Today I went into JCPenny's Salon because I used to work for their portrait studio and liked a lot of the stylists and their work and my boss had reassured my doubts. I went to go in for a color correction because I was sick and tired of my blotchy brown and black hair and was ready to go back to my natural color. I'm a natural ash blonde and knew that a double process was going to fry my already fried hair but was willing to take the risk nonetheless. I went in to see a MASTER stylist. She combed through my hair and was sure that she was going to be able to get it back to my natural color or at least as close as possible. (Who was I to complain? I knew how messed up my hair was and close enough was good enough.) After 2 and a half hours of being treated like a rag doll, bleach all over the place (including my face), hair toner all over my ears and forehead, I came out with the EXACT COLOR I WENT IN WITH. She bleached my hair just so she could dye it brown again?! I was furious. I was not about to pay 120 dollars for something I could have done at home for 20! Everyone could see it on my face! My old boss even came in and saw how pissed I was. I complained to the manager and she wasn't understanding at all. I told her that I came in for my consultation and the stylist was 100% sure that she was going to be able to get me back to my color. The manager told me that the most important thing was that it was even... If I had wanted to even out my hair color I could have purchased a box for 1/12 of the price she expected me to pay. I was ready to scream and cry. I told her that I had had enough and that I just wanted to go home. She charged me 90 dollars for the double process and comped me a color eraser and a free highlight. I'm very upset that I have to process my hair two more times for their mistake... Oh and not to mention highlights are cheaper than a double process... So much for getting my hair done professionally. I could have done a better job at home. read more

I have been to this Salon twice, first time loved it, I didn't get the lady's name, had my hair cut and blow dried, cost me $35 plus tip. Second time I called and schedule an appointment for haircut and a blow dry. I was quoted $35. Once I got there Ivette was rude, slamming the comb in my hair, took her 2 minutes to trim my dead ends and when I asked her if she was going to blow dry my hair she stated that she didn't have time! So with my wet dripping hair went to pay for her 2 minute service and she wanted to charge me $35, when I asked her why if she didn't blow dry my hair, she answered that prices had recently gone up(since the week prior that I had scheduled and was quoted $35?) I will never return to this place instead I will be going back to Art 5 Hair Salon in Windsor!!! read more

One of the former stylists, Samantha Noel, recently left JCPenny Salon. The reason I'm writing this review is that Samantha is now doing Brazilian Blowouts at Total Revue in Santa Rosa which she was not able to do at JCP. I have been searching for someone in Santa Rosa that can do a GOOD Brazilian Blowout (meaning, one that can last you up to 6 months) at a reasonable price and have not been able to find anyone. Samantha reached out to let me know she could now do them....so I had it done this evening. Having had 8 of them over the past 4 years, I can definitively say, she did an AMAZING job!!!! For those of you with frizzy hair that, no matter how much product, blow drying, flat iron or curling you do to your hair, the minute there's like 10% humidity in the air it all goes to hell in a hand basked - THIS is the solution. I always get my eyebrows done at Benefit inside Macy's but I decided to try getting them done at JcPenneys salon because it was cheaper. I was so dissapointed. The girl who did them did such a crappy job and I had to ask her at the end to clean them up a little more because they still did not look done. At the end there was no shape just cleaned up. They should just stick to doing hair if they do not know how to wax. This really sucks because I would have made this my regular place for hair and waxing. read more
