Holy moly, where do I even begin. Negative first impression by the entrance, a dilapidated service counter. Clearly not in use, why not just remove it instead of spotlighting this incredibly sad space? There was a shockingly high amount of inventory throughout the store. Merchandising technique looks like maybe they're trying to imitate Hollister 20 years ago - fold pants in half and lay on a table. Except it's not working. The worst part was prior to closing time, staff started closing all the exits - with metal gates! How is this safe during an emergency!? The couple of employees we could find just kept repeating to exit by the photo studio. Where is that, who knows. There were vague gestures, completely not helpful. We finally found the one exit that was unlocked and it dumped us off in a completely dark parking lot, a good distance from the parking garage. This is probably the employee entrance/exit making it convenient for staff, not customers. It seems that JC Penny is rebranding itself every few years. They just need to go back to basics and focus on customer service and cleanliness. read more

I was just in JCP. They had a clearance rack everything $30 and under. I asked to check the price it was $58. If it had of been one shirt on the rack I would understand that maybe it had been put there by mistake. There were 8 of the same on the rack, they would not honor the price false advertising. This review is for the online purchase from their website. I order a pair of shoes online and paid $3.95 for delivery fee to be delivered at this store for pick up. I went to pick up my order but did not take the purchase. The pair of shoes was heavier, not true to size and some sort of black marking on the right foot shoe. I returned the item and asked for a refund to my credit card. Unfortunately, the shipping charge of $3.95 was not refunded considering it was delivered to THEIR store for pick up. I would not be ordering anything online from JCPenney ever again. The associate at the pick up desk was very nice and helpful. She gets 5 stars, online purchase 3 stars. Love this store except for one thing. I needed a new nightgown. Thank God they had them. Hard to find lately. My fault I didnt try it on but bought it. I am totally dissatisfied with JCPenney I've been waiting on a pair of shoes since the middle of September! When I received the confirmation email they were ready to be picked up, I later received an email saying one of the pr of shoes are not available. I reordered the shoes at the store, and when the shoes were supposed to be delivered a week later, nothing. It's been a month so I decided on a refund and once Penneys notifies me I was going to reorder. I called customer service, gave the lady the info and she's asking me for card information. This store makes me nauseated and the only reason I enter it is because my mom likes it. They keep trying to manipulate you to open a credit card. The lady at the registrar saw my mom doesn't speak English well and asked her to enter her info to "offer her a discount". I look and it was asking for her social security number. I was shocked and told her this is asking for social and we don't give that. I asked if it was for opening a credit card and she said yes and kept insisting to open one with them. This is complete scam and unethical. This store is also full of oversized clothing and low quality items that need to go to thrift stores. Despite their low quality store, service and items they try to manipulate and scam people. read more

Out of all the stores at this mall, this staff is the nicest. Two very kind ladies welcomed all the customers, asked us if we had any questions and helped us find what we were looking for. Today, I was on a mission to find a yogurt maker. I had gone online and found JCPenney's have them and the best price. I ordered a four jar Euro Cuisine. It had really good reviews compared to others and picking up at the store will be minus the shipping fee. So with tax only $29. I haven't had one of these and probably 40 years. I decided if I'm going to eat yogurt I'll make it myself and add what I want minus all the gross sugary fruit and additives that are added by those companies. Looking forward to having yogurt when I want it. So easy to make and just takes a few hours to set. Not my favorite store but my grandma wanted to look at their store. I found the staff in various departments unhelpful and not friendly. I'm not sure what has happened to customer service since the pandemic but it has definitely declined at this store. We didn't find anything we were looking for, we didn't find any clothing we liked in the adult section or childrens section. The childrens section was a mess, the kids clothes were oversized for my child, I'm not sure what has happened to the sizing of the kids clothes or the quality, but I would not waste my time shopping at this store again. read more

Ran here today for a last minute wedding guest need. Was not disappointed!! They had an amazing dress section (only really went up to size 16 though unless you went to the plus section which had very few formal options.) The whole store was very clean, well organized, and smelt nice. Saw a multitude of employees and they were all friendly and seemed happy to work there, which feels rare at big retail stores these days. I'm definitely going to remember this is here and offers a good experience and a large selection of options! read more

Asked for face framing with my trim. I was very specific in asking for the shortest hair to reach below my chin so I can put my hair up in a ponytail. I didn't receive face framing. I can't even tell you what to call it one side is longer than the other. Looks like I have feathers around my face. Not happy and not ever returning to this hair salon. read more

The Fashion Valley store is in transition and the main floor lacks any level of customer care. When shopping today, the only wrap desk was staffed by a young man that was having a very bad day - he allowed his state of mind effect the customer experience but becoming frustrated and rude when my phone number was not in my customer file - no idea where my number went, it's been the same since 1996 - and it was my fault. I've always been a fan of JCPenney, part of my life growing up. I don't think I've been inside this store for maybe 2 years. It isn't that I'm unhappy with my experience, more that I'm surprised at some deficiencies that have risen in the past couple of years. The first thing I noticed is a lack of customer service people. I began my shopping experience in the eyeglass department. Once I found a couple of items to try on, I couldn't find a customer service person to tell me where a dressing room would be. One dressing room was obviously blocked off and l as I walked the perimeter of the store, another dressing room was blocked off. I continued looking for a dressing room until I reached the main entrance. Luckily, a customer was kind enough to point me in the right direction. She and her friend who were shopping together expressed the same frustration that I was having. Once I got to the dressing room,a salesperson was attending to customers. To continue, I think it's important to have dressing rooms in the ladies essentials department, because let's face it, generally, women don't choose to walk around the sales floor carrying panties. The dressing room for the department displaying cocktail dresses- also closed. Items in these two departments are difficult to carry around the store both for the purposes of trying the items on and in order to find a checkout register. Second, I noticed a lack of inventory in general. JCPenney in previous years would be packed to the brim with many items. It wasn't such an unpleasant experience today, but compared to other stores in the mall, I think JCPenney needs to do a little bit better in order to keep customers interested. Oh, I added a picture of what I was looking for today. I'm looking for an ugly sweater for a party tomorrow, and I found the Grinch clothing in a corner. There were very few holiday clothing items to choose from, and so I left the store empty-handed. read more

Took my mom to the Optical Dept for glasses since she was visiting from out-of-town. The Optometrist took an extraordinary long time during the appointment and getting the results to the front desk guy for ordering the glasses. I took my mom to the undergarment section. She wanted to try on some bras so we went into the fitting room which had a sign blocking it for some reason. There was nothing wrong with the room. I looked for someone to assist us for over 15 minutes, but no one was in the vicinity. As soon as my mom was finished trying on her bras, less than 10 minutes, a man and woman walking by saw us come out and had the nerve to tell us the fitting room was closed and to go to the other side of the building. They didn't care that my mom was having trouble walking AND where were they when we needed assistance with the merchandise and looking for the other fitting room!?? Nothing but rude, unhelpful and expensive and old merchandise that no other stores want!! Bye JC Penny! You'll be better off gone with apartments taking your place as stated in the news. read more

I went to the salon to get a Textured Styling & I wanted the Bantu Knots A set where hair is sectioned using square or triangular sections, twisted and wrapped in a technique that stacks twisted hair to form a spiral knot. Can be worn in the coiled buns or untwisted to create a curly style. I booked online. So I get there & she ask what is she doing. I said I booked an appt for Bantu Knots. She said o no that is just to comb out knots in the hair that is all. Like what?? So she said she wants to cut. Oh no we did not book a cut. So she did what she wanted to do. but before we got started she said can you pay the cashier now since everyone is leaving & it will be closed by the time we are done. So strange. cuz they want me to give tip & idk if I will like hair afterwards. So no tip. So I go she does whatever I looked like I did walking in. So upon walking out I see others paying for the done hair & the cashier still open. Like why did they make me pay ahead of time. I felt some type of way I won't lie. I felt untrusted like they measured me by my appearance Or my shoes idk. But needless to say I won't be going there. The online to register is misleading. There's no ethnic person in that salon. On the front of their ad it's ethnic ladies. That shouldn't be. This lady told me it's a family salon. She wasn't ethnic. So who are those ladies? I think it is only fair I update this review. On my last trip to JC Penney they had a massive sale with an additional 20% off in addition to the several rewards I acquired. As I was going through racks and racks of clothing I found a black party dress by Bisou Bisou. I was not sure of the sales price since regular priced clothes had been misplaced in the batch. I held on to the dress for dear life since it was the last one and in my size. When I went to the cash register the sales person told me the $75.00 dress was on sale for $11.00...what a sale. I immediately gave her my $10.00 reward plus military ID gave an additional 20% off. The final cost for my dress was .13 (thirteen cents). Eureka! Needless to say I was on a roll and purchased an additional two dresses for $2.98. Wow read more

I don't even leave bad reviews (I think it's bad karma), but after the horrible experience my boyfriend and I had at JCPenney Fashion Valley last night, I feel quite differently. My boyfriend and I were leaving the store after I bought a pair of jeans and my boyfriend returned a jacket. A man with a rotting tooth, who looks like he spends his entire life hanging out in video game stores, came running after us, grabbed my boyfriend (because apparently that's appropriate?), and said he saw my boyfriend steal something on the way out of the store. My boyfriend tried to assure this man-child that he did not, but the guy said we'd talk about it in the store. We went back in the store, where the issue was not that my boyfriend had apparently stolen something on the way out, but that the jacket he returned was not even sold in the store. A woman, whom I did not even realize worked there (because, while I was shopping, I saw her, on her phone, pacing around yelling obscenities, and acting like a disrespectful teenager), kept repeating that they don't sell Dickies there. The jacket was Dickies- my boyfriend purchased it at a different JC Penney location, but obviously he was allowed to return it to the Fashion Valley location, considering he did, he was given a receipt, and was told the amount would be returned to the card used when it was purchased. The girl at the returns counter had even specified the same last four digits of the card used to purchase the jacket, without seeing the card, itself (since it was already in the system). My boyfriend handed these clueless and classless individuals his receipt. It took a couple minutes for them to acknowledge THEIR error, but when they did, they were too embarrassed to swallow their pride and apologize. They just bitterly told us we could leave. So gross. I did online shopping with JC Penney, Flagarette, other online clothing stores. I get the courier delivered it check your neighbors, someone signed for it? I've been waiting for some orders since March, No refund no clothes, then your email says it was a problem in the shipment process? They'll resend it? Now after writing reviews - they will be resending it out, to check your tracking number. I think the Couriers are lying and not delivering it properly,! It's very upsetting! Great customer service here. I have made several online purchases and had it delivered to the store for zero shipping cost. Outstanding feature for when you make a smaller purchase. They send you an email alert saying the item has arrived and they give you about 10 days to pick it up. All I have to do it stop by the customer service area for the items. Quick ID check and they pull up the order for you, no problem. I have also returned items. They are always helpful. They have even submitted a reorder for me when a shirt didn't fit. Quick and easy. I was pleasantly surprised by this JCPenny. Usually I don't care for this store at all, but this location had a much better selection than most others I've gone to! Not all of it was my style, and it was a bit hard to find my way around, but I did find some excellent business/work clothes. I don't shop here often but I have found some great deals on Christmas decor and kids toys here. Not much of a fan when it comes their clothing or shoes. I scored a great deal on a multi functional art easel for my niece for Christmas. Like most stores they have adopted the site to store pick up option. BUT to my disappointment you still get charged a shipping fee! It's less than shipping to your home but still what's the point of it if you still get charged. The store is quite large multi levels and they even have a salon inside. Store seems to be laid out pretty well didn't spend much time walking around. I went straight to the pick up/ return area next to the salon. Overall you can find great deals here. Disappointing site to store pick fee though. read more

This very special THANK YOU goes to PETER supervisor in the JCPenny men's department at Fashion Valley mall two weeks ago!!! This guy to the load off of me while taking my son's friend out for Prom attire. Peter educated us in men's formal wear, put a entire classic outfit together in 1 hour including shoes. We returned all the other stores clothes, because he pointed out how materials and sizes just didn't match up. Peter knew JCPENNY's stores clothing, different looks, materials, and went over dress do's and don't like nobody's business!! He's the man to see!!! Peter blew it out of the water, and made ours lives absolutely perfect that day. I've referred several other friends to him, already. We are not big fans of department stores and we avoid going there as much as we can but our experience at this JC Penny in the Fashion Valley mall was just awesome! We have my niece Quinceñera coming up soon and we needed suits last minute. We have little to none experience buying suits so we had no idea what to look for. Edgar, the guy working in the suit area saw us and immediately offered to help us. He was super kind and helpful and even gave us his opinion on certain colors and styles. This store has so many options and a variety of styles and prices so it was very easy to find a good deal. In addition, Edgar went above and beyond helping us get the best deal, our original total was over 400 and with all the discounts he was able to get for us we ended up paying only 220 and we left very happy with our outfits. At times I have varied feelings about this store. Today it was super clean, well organized and spacious with their items all in their proper places. The staffs all behind the counters so after about 40 minutes looking at all their pots and pans with my friend Ms Jolydia, NO BODY came to ask us if we needed help, NO BODY. That sucked and means that NO BODY is roaming the floors seeking to assist, checking out their customers and what they are doing, or anything else for that matter. If the store indeed has cameras I'm sure if we stuffing a 10 inch skillet down our bras then someone would have asked m, Can I help you? Lol, but today, being regular good ol customers with money in our pockets to spend on some pots and pans, no assonance offered. And it wasn't that busy either. Oh well, maybe Ms Jolydia will find what she wants online since we walked that whole section for 40 minutes, and still didn't find the 12 piece black Cooks pots and pan ceramic set that she wanted.
