While wandering downtown Durango, we happened upon this shop. this was an absolute treat. My daughter and I came in right when a gentleman was explaining what all the chocolates were in the case. We each selected one and got one for my husband. The perfect choice for my husband was The New York Basin, it is inspired by a Manhattan cocktail with a whisky soaked cherry inside. I had a dark chocolate salted caramel. Their handmade caramel has local honey, covered in dark chocolate and topped with sea salt, so tasty! My daughter chose The Texas Truffle, handmade fudge covered in milk chocolate. It even had sparkly sprinkles. I forgot to take a picture of the chocolate case, so I popped back in for a quick pic and the gentleman behind the counter said he knew I would be back. The staff is great and had it not been evening, I would have gotten a coffee too. The coffee menu looked lovely. Welcoming and fun folks there.

What a fun find! We were looking for something sweet that wasn't ice cream, and the Animas Chocolate Company sure did deliver! We walked in and were promptly greeted with a smile and a friendly hello. When I explained that we'd never been in before and asked a question about the menu, the barista (?) kindly explained the listings and then offered samples for our whole family. We ended up ordering the Mexican hot chocolate (which was rich and luscious, with only a hint of spice because I'd asked the bartender to make it kid-friendly) and an olde fashioned (which came with a blood orange truffle and I thought the drink would also be hot chocolate based, but Reader--it was NOT.) There's plenty of seating options (and the swivel chairs are quite fun), plus a glass door in the back to peek into their chocolate production process. My kids and I enjoyed our visit here, and of course the hot chocolate i(made with real chocolate, not cocoa powder) is really delicious. The customer service and welcoming ambiance though is what made this the real winner.

This place was recommended by a friend. We were greeted with complementary hot chocolate drinks, by the friendly barista. This is not to be mistaken for the European sipping chocolate, which is the drink to order. It comes with a biscotti and free refill. It's the richest, more decadent hot chocolate I've had, made with cream and dark chocolate. I ordered a Mexican Mocha on ice, which was also wonderful. I also ordered some fine chocolates...premium quality. Nice atmosphere as well!

This is the best chocolate shop in the 4 state area. We love coming here when passing through Durango. It's so much fun to sit in this beautiful shop and enjoy a coffee or a chocolate martini. I love purchasing these beautiful truffles as gifts for my closest friends!

An amazingly well thought shop. I highly recommend making it a point to stop here if visiting or new to the area. The cocktail & chocolate pairings are delightful. And the coffee options are the perfect pick me up. The shop itself has a historic yet modern feel to it. Very relaxing. I have top notch service every time I stop in. Animas Chocolate Company is an experience worth having.

Amazing Euro style dinking chocolate served with a side of biscotti and marshmallow. Like hot melted ganache, theirs is very good with earthy mocha notes-not too sweet nor too large a serving. Yes. Yes. A thousand times yes.

Great handmade Chocolates and more!!! Aug 2025 We have been warmly greeted every single time we entered here. They offered us a sample taste of cocoa to start our visit. Their handmade chocolates are top notch - and on par with expensive European chocolates! From spicy (yum) to Meyer lemon (yum) every single one is excellent. Then go sit at the bar where barista, Kyle, will pair your wine, cocktail or beer (YES beer) with the perfect chocolate! Great place to relax and enjoy beautiful Main Street, Durango.

Kind and attentive service. All unprompted: "Would you like to try our tasting chocolate while you decide on your order?"; "I'll get fresh water to your dog outside."; Brought water to me in case I wanted some with my coffee drink. Delicious and good vibe.

Such a great store. It's a coffee shop coupled with a chocolate company. I do wish they opened earlier. I stopped by in the evening and grabbed a coffee. It was delicious, so I came back the next morning around 8am and they weren't open yet!! Staff was very nice and helpful. Great vibe as soon as you entered.

Excellent cold brew with spectacular presentation.

Beautiful spot with incredible truffles and excellent coffee. We had a Manhattan inspired truffle paired with an espresso and a cold brew coffee. Get the tour of all of the custom truffles from the enthusiastic staff. The best $17 you can spend on downtown Durango.

This might be the nicest and best decorated coffee shop I have ever been too. The only thing that makes it better is the friendly service we received from all of the workers. Everyone was friendly and well informed of the coffee and chocolate they offered. You can even see them make their chocolate delights in the back of the store. Oh and I forgot they serve fresh and delicious coffee! Sadly we found this shop on our last day in town. If not we would have been back everyday we were in town!! This place is a must for coffee or chocolate lovers in Durango!!

We discovered Animas Chocolate a few years ago and it has become one of our "must do's" while in Durango. Not only are the chocolates beautiful to behold, but the flavor and quality are exceptional. In addition to delectable chocolates, Animas Chocolate Co also offers a variety of coffees, hot chocolate (you have to try the Quick and Dirty), and an espresso martini.

As a huge chocolate lover, Animas Chocolate Company was a must when passing through Durango. The workers were so friendly and from the moment we walked in we felt welcome. They took the time to walk us through each truffle in detail and gave us plenty of space to peruse the store looking at all the other goodies. As I decided on what goodies to take home, my boyfriend enjoyed an espresso at the bar. Very eager to try my truffles I did not snap a pic of the beautifully wrapped box, but will say each one tasted just as good as it looked! Highly recommend for anyone looking for a sweet treat.

She took the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad to Silverton, but unfortunately I wasn't able to go because of a medical condition that prevents me from traveling to high altitudes, and the train climbs to around 10,000 feet. After she left on her adventure, I decided to find some breakfast. While I was walking around town, my aunt called. She and my uncle used to vacation in Ouray every year, so she knows the area well. She recommended Jean-Pierre Bakery, so that's where I headed. I was seated right away and ordered a coffee while I looked over the menu. My waitress was very friendly, and we chatted for a while. She even recommended a few places around town that I should check out. I finally decided on the Croque Monsieur (brioche, béchamel, ham, and Swiss cheese) served with a salad. When my meal arrived, it looked fantastic. The sandwich was delicious, rich, and full of flavor. It was my first time trying a Croque Monsieur, and I really enjoyed it. The salad was fresh and crisp, and the vinaigrette paired perfectly with it. After finishing my meal, I couldn't resist ordering a pistachio cream-filled éclair that had caught my eye when I first walked in. It looked beautiful, but unfortunately, it was a disappointment. The pastry was very dry, and the bottom was quite hard. It definitely didn't taste freshly made. The pistachio cream had a nice flavor, but there wasn't very much of it. I mentioned my concerns to my server, and she kindly brought me a chocolate éclair to try instead. It also looked wonderful, but it had the same problem. The pastry tasted old, almost like it had been sitting for a couple of days. I would absolutely return for another Croque Monsieur or to try something else from the breakfast or lunch menu because that part of the meal was excellent. As for the pastries, they certainly look beautiful, but based on my experience, I would probably pass on them next time. This would have been a solid 4 star if those eclair had of been good.

what is there to say about this place?…read more i personally have never eaten anything here EXCEPT their bakery goods which were superb, best in town, hands down. Every morning they seem to have a wide selection of freshly baked pastries, good coffee, big smiles and a beautiful building. I have seen their breakfasts being delivered to tables and can say they look delicious but a big breakfast sends me straight back to bed... When i am in town.. i stop here every single time, always, without fail.

To her credit, our kind waitress had the kitchen quickly make me a new one, but honestly it was still borderline inedible. This time, due to the salt. Not only was the meat heavily salted, but the breading was overly salted as well. I couldn't even taste the meat or the breading (or even the potatoes) because it wasn't a giant plate of salt. I ate all the broccolini, a few bites of potatoes, and a few bites of steak. I hate that all restaurants, because of patrons and their salt-conditioned palates, serve the most sodium-laden monstrosities possible. I didn't feel good eating it, I didn't want to eat more than a few bites, and I left the restaurant full of regret for the bites I did take. On the plus side, the beer is exceptionally tasty, and my kids both enjoyed their meals. We are leaving tomorrow and so we won't be back, but I wouldn't be back otherwise as well.
