    Margarita flight
    Alaina S.

We have been here a few times, every time has been a solid dining experience. The food is good and they have some really well done cocktails. This time we ate on the patio and I enjoyed a margarita flight. It was nice to be able to have a taste of three drinks but my favorite cocktails at Jefe continue to be the Mojito or the Oaxacan Old Fashioned. The Queso is good and had a bit of spice to it. The chicken in the enchiladas verdes is flavorful and the beans and rice are pretty basic. I would not say it's my favorite Mexican food but it is delicious enough that the ambiance and location are a draw to come back.

And it's been a long while since I've been to jefe, but it is still a great place to stop for food and drinks. We were wandering along the river, and spotted and open table on the patio and a gorgeous evening so we stopped in. Very good choice on our part. We started with drinks. I ordered the primo margarita. It was good, but I don't think it was that distinguishable from the regular margarita to make it worth the incredible bump in price. If the price height doesn't bother you, then by all means get it. Either way all of the margaritas were excellent. We ordered a sampler tray and then some extra chips and salsa. The Yucca fries were crisp and tasty. If we would've had more time, we would've gotten another round of them. The dips on the sampler, were all good, but I especially liked the cilantro focused salsa as well as the peach habenero. That letter one was so very very good. I can't say enough good things about how excellent the staff was. Both our server, and her backups were intentive the entire time. Our chip baskets were never empty and water glasses were always filled. Such a great experience

This was my fourth time visiting and it never disappoints! I absolutely love the food -- the mussels and pan-seared pork tenderloin medallions were incredible, and the mashed Yukon Gold potatoes were truly exceptional. The patio is my favorite part, especially on a nice day -- such a great atmosphere, and I really appreciate that it's dog-friendly! It's become one of my go-to spots. Highly recommend!

My tacos this time were a bit cold but that's beside the point. Jefe is still one of my favorite spots that has delicious tacos/food and amazing cocktails Service was above and beyond! Also their music was sooo good

This is such a cute little restaurant on the main strip in NE! My boyfriend and I went here for a date and we loved the chips and salsa and our entrees. Our server was so sweet, attentive, and had the cutest nails and tattoos! I loved the vibe and patio area of El Jefe. We will definitely check it out and a great place for a nice hangout or date night!

This was my first time at Jefe and it was fun! We stopped in for drinks after an event near by and the staff was so great. We came in towards the end of the night but the seated us right away and explained when kitchen closed and when bar closed. It's such a cool space and very intimate feeling. We also learned it's connected to the parking garage so there is no need to go outside in the cold MN weather if you park in the garage. I got a Mexican coke and the dessert empanadas which were really good!

Been here a couple times, love the area even though it isn't the best for parking, especially when it's cold. Service is always great, friendly staff and very accommodating. Decided to visit cause they had happy hour all January and was a great deal. I love the inside of the restaurant. Dim lighting, cool date vibes with a beautiful bar area. Ordered chips with guac and a few different salsas. Birria tacos and pozole. I enjoyed everything, but my date said she could make the pozole better lol. Great portions, great price and overall great experience!

    Nachos

Everything was great-service at the bar, ambience, food. Nachos were loaded and enough left over to take home. Definitely recommend.

Came here with family from out of town, and wish our experience was a bit better. We made a reservation and were seated quickly but service was painfully slow. We were there for 2 hours, only having ordered chips & dip and entrees. I had somewhere to be after dinner and was pushing timing, but it was hard to even find our server unfortunately. The homemade chips & guac were delicious, a great way to start the meal - plus they were very quick to get us more chips as we needed them! I ordered the Avocado Salad with Shrimp and I was underwhelmed, it wasn't really dressed and consisted mainly of lettuce. Overall, I'd give this spot another chance, but would be prepared to wait.

The food here is really really good! Full of flavor and really fresh ingredients. The chicken tinga tacos were super delicious! We loved the elote and jefe sampler. The yuca wasn't our favorite so would steer away from that next time but really the rest was amazing! The restaurant is gorgeous inside and the staff is so very welcoming.

We spent $36 on 2 basic af margaritas that I could make at home. If you're gonna come here, do it during happy hour otherwise go somewhere with a fancier marg that's worth $18 each.

We have started coming here after we see a movie at st Anthony main theater. The service has always been very welcoming and accommodating. The atmosphere is the perfect amount of broody/moody. And the food and drinks are outstanding. I get the tacos every time. And the chicken mole is delicious. I also like their house margarita and the reposado tequila flight. 10/10 for presentation. I have chosen here for my upcoming birthday dinner because I like it so much!

    Wild mushroom tamal

We were promptly seated by the bar and got our waters pretty quickly and menu. We were hungry after attending the Yelp Elite Squad end of year Yelpies event at the Main Cinema. It was our first time and needed as couple minutes to decide. We asked for recommendations from our server and tried two of the dishes that are recommended. The wild mushroom tamal was different and tasty but it was too salty that we used the line juice from the shrimp cerviche dish to tame the down the saltiness. The chicken mole was ok. I had forgotten that I don't like the mole sauce so it was not appealing for me. The best part of the plate was the rice. The summer salad had way too red onions that it overpowered the rest of the salad flavors. The crispy tortilla was good and I'm glad they have us enough for the cerviche. The avocado shrimp cerviche was by far my favorite dish of the three that we ordered to share. It was enough good for two people with two appetizers and one entree. It was closer to closing time so the place was quiet and it looked pretty big. Prices were reasonable. Probably will try it out again when we are in the area.

The interior has that classic vintage pub feel with lots of character and natural light. There are tons of booths and different seating areas that could accommodate parties of all sizes. I especially liked the glass dividers between some of the booths, which give you a little extra privacy without making the space feel closed off. My booth also had coat hooks and easy access to outlets, which I appreciated. I could definitely see myself coming here for a working lunch. My server was incredibly friendly and helpful, especially as I was trying to figure out how to use a couple of rewards I had on my account. I specifically came in wanting to try the fish and chips. Their lunch menu offers smaller portions of several dishes from the dinner menu, including a fish and chips option for around $15. I really wanted to try the walleye, though, so I ended up ordering the full dinner portion for around $28. The fish was absolutely the star of the plate. The breading was fantastic--crunchy around the edges while still light and fluffy--and the fish inside practically melted in my mouth. The tartar sauce was also really good and paired perfectly with it. The sides, unfortunately, didn't impress me nearly as much. There were plenty of fries, but they were pretty average, and the coleslaw was mostly cabbage with a light dressing. It felt like it was missing some acidity or lime to give it a little more personality. For almost $30, I also expected the meal to be a bit more substantial. I left satisfied, but found myself hungry again a couple of hours later, so I'm not sure the dinner portion felt worth the price for me. If you're mainly curious about their fish and chips, I'd probably recommend trying the smaller lunch portion first rather than committing to the more expensive dinner version. Would I come back? Absolutely--the atmosphere, service, and location alone make The Local worth another visit, and I noticed several other dishes on the menu I'd be interested in trying. I just don't know that I'd order this particular meal again. The fish itself was excellent, but for me, the sides and overall value didn't quite match it.

Relatively easy to find, though you do have to hunt a little bit, Flora Room sits behind a nondescript metal door leading down a short hallway to the entrance. Take a long moment to allow your eyes to adjust if you're coming before sunset; this space is DARK. It's also perfect. Once your "night vision" kicks in you're surrounded by a nice bar, numerous bistro-style tables and booths. Candles adorn the tables creating a nice, cozy place to settle in for drinks. Once seated in comfortable chairs at a table, we were quickly greeted and provided with menus. The cocktail selection is relatively "small" but really nicely varied. Prices seemed a tad steep but frankly, given the quality of the drinks I'd say quite worth it. I started out with the Evita, a nice flavorful gin-base cocktail topped with a nice egg white foam. Very tasty. My wife opted for the Tapaculo, with gin, mezcal, pineapple, banana and bitters over ice. Also quite good. There are also bites available from the associated restaurant I can't recall the name of mine but I can say it was delicious. Bread-like bites with a really tasty dipping sauce. To close out the visit I selected Palo, a smoked aged rum cocktail that was really nice and rich. My wife chose the Nahualito with rum, walnut, amontillado and white chocolate. All should be on your radar. Flora Room really fit the bill for a nice, intimate speakeasy-style spot to spend time. Dark and cozy. Savory cocktails and friendly service will stand out and make you want to return. I know we'll seek it out if we return to Minneapolis again. I hope so.

It has Prohibition-themed decor, but I wouldn't quite call it a speakeasy, as there wasn't any guise to entering or accessing the space. My only critique is that the space is quite dated, but not in a cool way.
