My friend and I had so much fun coming for happy hour! I didn't know since I don't believe it says online but the vegan chorizo tacos are on happy hour for $10! They are my favorite and we also got chips and salsa to share along with some drinks. I believe mine was a frozen margarita which was very refreshing but a bit small. We sat on the patio which was great! Our waitress did not really come back at all though and we had to place our order with the food runner along with asking them for water. Parking is a bit limited and mostly all paid parking but if you're good with walking there's usually lots near university ave. read more

Stopped here for dinner before seeing a movie nearby. The place reminds me of medieval times, very much pub vibes. They were playing really good music, like all the hits. I had a reservation for 7:45, as I didn't know how busy the area would be on a Saturday night. Once seated the host dropped off some waters and told be the waitress would be over in a bit. It was a while before anyone came over, 15+ minutes. When she did make it over things went pretty smooth and she was nice and helpful. I ordered the chicken tacos, La Tormenta (cocktail) and seasonal tres leches for dessert. The tacos were good, the tortillas are doubled, a little thick imo. The drink was good, kind of tasted like a sangria. The tres leches was interesting, angel food cake. Not really what I would expect for tres leches. Prices are pretty elevated for Tex mex food. I'd come back if I was in area for an event but definitely wouldn't go out of my way to eat here. read more

We have been here a few times, every time has been a solid dining experience. The food is good and they have some really well done cocktails. This time we ate on the patio and I enjoyed a margarita flight. It was nice to be able to have a taste of three drinks but my favorite cocktails at Jefe continue to be the Mojito or the Oaxacan Old Fashioned. The Queso is good and had a bit of spice to it. The chicken in the enchiladas verdes is flavorful and the beans and rice are pretty basic. I would not say it's my favorite Mexican food but it is delicious enough that the ambiance and location are a draw to come back. read more

We had a great server. Yet the food was dry and tasteless. The worse part was the parking ramp. We parked in the ramp and walked to the restaurant. I asked the hostess how to get out of the ramp and she just said you just drive out. Found out our elevator needed a code to get us back to our ramp level. We took the stairs and were locked out of the ramp. We eventually got in because we followed another car in and discovered we needed to scan in a QR code and get a code to get out. Yet we really did not need that as there was no code pad to get out. I felt like I got out of jail and couldn't wait to get out of the area. Dark and unsafe. Killed the vibe. read more

And it's been a long while since I've been to jefe, but it is still a great place to stop for food and drinks. We were wandering along the river, and spotted and open table on the patio and a gorgeous evening so we stopped in. Very good choice on our part. We started with drinks. I ordered the primo margarita. It was good, but I don't think it was that distinguishable from the regular margarita to make it worth the incredible bump in price. If the price height doesn't bother you, then by all means get it. Either way all of the margaritas were excellent. We ordered a sampler tray and then some extra chips and salsa. The Yucca fries were crisp and tasty. If we would've had more time, we would've gotten another round of them. The dips on the sampler, were all good, but I especially liked the cilantro focused salsa as well as the peach habenero. That letter one was so very very good. I can't say enough good things about how excellent the staff was. Both our server, and her backups were intentive the entire time. I absolutely love the food -- the mussels and pan-seared pork tenderloin medallions were incredible, and the mashed Yukon Gold potatoes were truly exceptional. This was my first time at Jefe and it was fun! We stopped in for drinks after an event near by and the staff was so great. We came in towards the end of the night but the seated us right away and explained when kitchen closed and when bar closed. It's such a cool space and very intimate feeling. We also learned it's connected to the parking garage so there is no need to go outside in the cold MN weather if you park in the garage. We were promptly seated by the bar and got our waters pretty quickly and menu. We were hungry after attending the Yelp Elite Squad end of year Yelpies event at the Main Cinema. It was our first time and needed as couple minutes to decide. We asked for recommendations from our server and tried two of the dishes that are recommended. The wild mushroom tamal was different and tasty but it was too salty that we used the line juice from the shrimp cerviche dish to tame the down the saltiness. The chicken mole was ok. I had forgotten that I don't like the mole sauce so it was not appealing for me. The best part of the plate was the rice. The summer salad had way too red onions that it overpowered the rest of the salad flavors. The crispy tortilla was good and I'm glad they have us enough for the cerviche. The avocado shrimp cerviche was by far my favorite dish of the three that we ordered to share. It was enough good for two people with two appetizers and one entree. It was closer to closing time so the place was quiet and it looked pretty big. Prices were reasonable. Probably will try it out again when we are in the area. read more

We stopped here after the Yelpies as a group and they were so accommodating to us. They set up a table for us and got us all water and menus. They communicated several times when last call for food and then later on last call for drinks. They even brought us complimentary chips and salsa( probably because they saw we were Yelpers). This would be a great date spot as it had that romantic atmosphere. I tried the Yucca fries and they were delicious. My non alcoholic drink was light and refreshing. Seriously great service. 100/10 recommend this to anyone looking for a cute date spot. So sorry to the staff for our group being loud. Actually it was probably just me that was loud. The atmosphere here is adequate. There is music playing and people seem to be having a good time. The lighting is quite low for dining, though. Service was adequate as well. The best part of the food was the 3 salsas brought out for their decent chips. Unfortunately, the adequate part ends there. The chicken bowl that I ordered came with about 1/2 cup of overcooked rice (tasted like Uncle Ben's Spanish rice). Not much chicken, which was nothing to brag about either. For $20 and chicken being a cheap protein, I expected to have leftovers - disappointing. The carne asada also looked to be disappointing. $34 for maybe 4oz of not-so-flavorful, kind of tough meat. Cooked like an American style steak, whole, then sliced. The tortillas with the asada were also clearly microwaved, as they were almost glued together in their wrapper. The Paloma (non-alcoholic) is $14! What?! Unfortunately nothing from this experience will have me coming back for a second visit. read more

Was in the area, and my friend introduced us to this place. Plenty of street parking (need to pay). And they have a cozy patio that must be beautiful during the warmer months. First impressions walking and it radiates just friendly and warm vibe. She really loved her tacos she got last time which were tinga tacos. This time she did get pork tacos which she stated were not as good. They do have two fully vegan items on the menu, which is really nice. I got the tacos and they were a lot more softer than expected (the filling). But the price of the items, were really high for the quality and amount. I got two tacos (happy hour) for $8. The chips and salsa were $5 (happy hour). 1 out the 3 salsas were flavorful. The red one was probably my favorite, the green I felt like didn't have any flavor and my friends tried the cheese (they didn't enjoy it). Definitely not authentic Mexican food if that's what you're looking for, definitely paying more for the ambience than the food. The food was amazing here, especially the Chicken Tinga Tacos (a must have)! They had a good variety of options on the menu and everything felt light and healthy. Some options were tastier than others but loved the variety. Portion sizes are on the small side so I would recommend getting an appetizer or splitting a second entree (only two tacos per order). The drinks were great and the service was quick and attentive. Love the indoor and outdoor options available. The indoor area has an older aesthetic that matches the St Anthony main feel. The sampler is a must when going here! It includes 6 different dips and you know that if you are from MN we love the dips. This was my first time trying sikil p'ak, which is a pumpkin seed dip that I didn't know I needed in my life. Will be going back for more in the future! The tomatillo and habanero-mango salsa were also a top contender. With the 6 dips, you can also trade something out that you don't enjoy for a second bowl of something you do, so this is still a great option for anyone that doesn't eat dairy! I was worried that I wouldn't be full after 2 birria tacos but 2 was the perfect amount! The beef was tender and flavorful with strong notes of cinnamon. The broth was a game changer for this and the best part of this plate! The Paloma was not on the menu but they had a similar (smoky Paloma) listed and were happy to make it not smoky! It is moody inside with dimmed lights and dark wood features. Perfect location near the stone arch bridge that makes it easy to explore the area before or after you eat! I have mixed opinions on Jeffe Urban Cocina. My first time going to this restaurant. We went on a recommendation. I absolutely love the area where the restaurant is located. It was a nice evening, so we headed down early to take a walk along the river front and felt totally safe. I ordered Enchiladas, they were very tasty, I loved the thin radish slices. My husband ordered the Barbacoa Tacos, and they were too spicy for him. He could only eat one of them. I can handle spicer food better than him, but also found it to be very spicy. Both entrée's had unique twists to them. The table ordered Guacamole con Tortillas Fritas, the Frita's were excellent. Fresh, crunchy- perfect. The guacamole was good, but nothing to write home about. We requested some salsa, and got the habanero-mango, it is a great flavor combination, but again all 4 of us thought it was too spicy. The ambiance is warm and cozy, dimmed lights, etc... Unfortunately the lights may have been too dim, we couldn't see the menu. We (and others around us) took out our phones to see the menu. We were seated next to a large group that were very loud, making it hard to hear one another. We were so happy when they left, but unfortunately another large table was quickly seated who were even louder. I am not sure if the acoustics are bad as it is an old building. If we go back, I will be sure to specify my wants when making the reservation. read more

We keep giving Jefe "chances" but every time there's something that just doesn't work. Tonight it was the bar. We ordered 2 "skinny" margaritas l, a mojito, and a Mexican Coke. My skinny marg was let's say 90% full to the top of the glass, my husband's was 75% full - when he asked the server about it, she admitted she thought The inconsistency was odd and took my husband's drink back to the bar. She returned to say that the bartender said "if I fill it fuller, it won't be skinny". Hmmm, "skinny" is a recipe, not a quantity. Our friend's mojito was undrinkable. The chips, salsa and guac were good. my chicken tinga tacos were good but VERY spicy for tinga; typically chipotle is not spicy. the elite is good but they should cut it off the cob;!no one is picking it up and eating it off the cob the way it is dressed. It really seems like they are just giving up at this point and any effort in creating and delivering a great dining experience was abandoned a long time ago. Bummer. read more

When we arrived around 7:45pm there was an hour wait. We expected it to be super busy because of the day so waiting wasn't a big deal. I can't remember if we waited an entire hour but it seemed like we were sat fairly quickly. Our server was super busy so she was delayed getting to the table. A hostess came out and took our drink orders for her. We waited another 20 min for our server to come by and we ordered food. To start we had the chips and dips and guacamole. The mango habanero salsa is to die for! I wish it were a bit spicier, though. For dinner I ordered the birria tacos! Im always searching for the best place that sells them. Jefe makes some delicious birria tacos but I wouldn't consider them to be very authentic. The margaritas were tasty but definitely more on the pricy side. The yucca was fantastic! Jefe is not my favorite spot for Mexican food but I may go back every once in a while. It just didn't really blow me away which was what I was expecting. read more
