I come to MSP often for work, and it's always a challenge to find a decent, healthy meal late in the evening downtown. Fortunately, the Earth Bowl at Star fits the bill and will probably be a go-to on future trips. It's a nicely seasoned, balanced, and clean-tasting assortment of greens, other vegetables, grains, and optional protein (shrimp was a good choice). And the generous pour of cab sauv complemented it well. Food aside, the space is very inviting and calming (and geometrically interesting, being circular in design), perfect for catching up on some reading during my meal. Service was also pleasant. The only thing is that there wasn't much else on the menu that appealed to me personally, so I'm hoping the bowl isn't something temporary or seasonal. Went back to the Bisto for lunch and was not impressed. Server wasn't able to answer any of our questions about the menu (what the soup of the day was, what tea didn't have caffeine, etc.). I ended up ordering the Caesar salad and the butternut squash soup. The soup had too much cream, and not enough butternut squash flavor. The Kale Caesar salad was just weird. It had very little actual flavor (I think the croutons were the best part of the thing) and the shaved? shredded? egg on top did not help. Overall a disappointing lunch, unfortunately. I had a better experience at the evening bar/party bites (see previous review below). ____ There were so many different spaces within Star Bar, it felt like there was always another seating area around a corner, from the gorgeous main bar under the starry ceiling, to a faux library book nook, to a lounger for larger groups, and an entire event space with street-facing windows. We started with a very large group in the back, and then slowly made our way to smaller sections as people left for the night. We enjoyed a beautiful charcuterie spread, and pizzas, but my favorite things were the Tempura zucchini chips and the parm frites. they had a solid wine selection, and while my espresso martini was good, I usually prefer it more on the sweet side (a hotly debated topic, I know). I would definitely go back for a full meal. This is a great happy hour or date spot downtown! read more

The setting is a little odd, as we ate in an area that was probably better suited to be a bar lounge rather than a dining room. While in Minneapolis for a Twins game we decided to stay and dine at our hotel rather than venture out. The Star Bar & Bistro is connected to the hotel. It was dark, but table lights are adjustable. There is a round bar and various types of seating. I ordered a Mediterranean salad with blackened salmon, but received regular salmon. Salmon should have been warmer. The dressing was runny and olives were colder than expected. My friend ordered side salad with garlic croutons. They had recently changed the menu, so he received breadcrumbs. He had obviously received an outdated menu. We both rated our entrees as fair. On the flip side, the servers were very personable and engaging. We had fun interacting with them. Indigo Hotel told my friend that Star Bar will validate parking, but they don't validate parking for anyone per waitstaff. Food is available until 12:30am, so that's a plus for those who dine later. read more

An open concept with high ceiling, tables spread out, plants around the bar area, a closed off room for a party, and enjoyable music playing at the perfect level. A nice sized menu offering a diverse selection of meal and drink options to satisfy any palate. This establishment offers reasonable prices for all items and very satisfying portion sizes. I stopped in on a whim with my friend while walking around the city looking for food close to 10 PM on a Tuesday night. We were able to sit wherever we wanted. The space of the main bar itself with the constellation on the sky was really nice. However, the booth and table we sat at was quite dirty unfortunately. Our server came over and she was very friendly and helpful throughout the whole visit. My friend and I split the following items: -BLACKENED SALMON: The salmon was cooked well but the flavor profile of the item was very...confused. There was blackened salmon over rice, with sweet chili sauce on the side alongside feta cheese, avocados and pickled red onions. The different flavors just kind of clashed. -ARTICHOKE DIP: I love artichoke dip so I was very excited to order it. However, the dip was quite disappointing. The actual dip part was very watery and bland. They also served it with deep fried pita triangles which was a bit too heavy for me (would have been better if the pita was not deep fried). My friend and I only ate a bite each which the server noted and was so kind to take the cost off our check because we did not actually eat it. -COBB SALAD: The portion of the salad was huge! Lots of great toppings and was a good option for those looking for a tasty salad. All in all, while the food itself was hit or miss, the service is what really stood out here. read more

I have been to Star Bar a couple times for happy hour or dinner have had a great time, great food, and great service. Happy Hour Menu has great selections: 1.The sliders with shoestring fries were well flavored and fresh. 2.Parmesesn frites has the right balance of salt and cheese. 3.Spinach and Artichoke dip with the garlic pita was also very yummy and great for sharing. Dinner options are a bit more pricey but good. I have also tried the Blackened shrimp scampi for dinner which was delicious and wholesome. The portion was very generous and filling. Star Bar is a solid happy hour options because it is consistently good. Plus, the space has an inviting ambiance and fun decor with cute nooks surrounding the bar. read more

I've been wanting to hit up Star Bar since it opened. I had a good feeling about the happy hour menu. It didn't disappoint. The food was great and the drinks were too. They even have hh in Friday. There's a lot to choose from on the hh menu. My friend and I shared wings, crab cakes, Brussels sprouts, and the whipped feta toast. All were delicious and portions are generous. Wings had a nice crisp and were substantial, not tiny. The whipped feta toast is a sleeper though, and prob the one I enjoyed most. Lots of accoutrements, super tasty. The sidecar was great and so was the Benedictine Manhattan cocktail. Strong but well balanced. We were greeted with a warm and thoughtful welcome, esp considering what's happening in our city rn. Staff were friendly and service was prompt. Nice, upscale ambiance and decor. It makes for a great after work happy hour downtown or a great spot for a more formal date night. Today is only morning one at Hotel Indigo and due to my hubby's IHG status he chose breakfast vouchers as his reward at checkin. The vouchers are worth $15 each so you pay the difference if your brunch option is above that, but I loved my Steep Cut Oats w/ Brûléed Bananas, Blueberries, Dates, Pecans and Butter (butter was on the side and I didn't use it) which were $14. My hubby was surprised by how much lobster was in his lobster omelette since it was only $18. Can't wait to try something else tomorrow morning! The options are great and available until 3pm! In the Hotel Indigo Star Bar is spacious and a funky atmosphere. The service was fast and attentive. Staff were friendly and the manager checked in on us as well. The fried were crispy and flavorful. I'm surprised at the quality of the food of this restaurant! Given it is a restaurant attached to a hotel, I honestly did not have very high expectations. Those expectations were met for sure, but I would not go as far as saying that they were exceeded, as my only complaint from my overall experience eating from this restaurant was that I found the steak quite tough when I ordered their steak and eggs breakfast here. Not ideal, but not the end of the world either. Service is pretty good and relatively quick, but certainly not the most efficient service I have experienced. The decor and interior is amazing. Beautiful wherever you look and very classy. All in all, a good experience here, but I would only come here if you're in the area or vicinity, and would not come here from out in the suburbs, for instance. read more

The bartender, Ashely, was helpful with suggestions for dinner and drink. Had olives for an app, shrimp scampi for dinner. Both were very good. This place was so good I'm hopping over here to yelp to cross post my review cause I believe they deserve the extra positive buzz. I was staying in Minneapolis for a week and decided to treat myself to a stay at the hotel indigo. I got in late and checked out the star bar since it was still offering the late night menu. I'm used to hotel bars and restaurants being perhaps a bit overpriced, but to my surprise and delight the star bar has the decency to be some of, no joke, the best food I've ever had. The smashburger is a must try, even the beef patty itself was delicious plus the excellent toppings- that garlic aioli is to die for- and amazing fries. I don't even usually care that much about the flavor of beef on its own but I still could tell it was really high quality and perfectly cooked. The fries were so delicious- light and crispy without being dry or getting stodgy as they cooled- I got them on their own as the parm frites another night. The chicken sandwich is a simple item made elevated by how well it was cooked and dressed. The coleslaw balances out the heaviness of the hearty chunk of chicken. It was so good that even when I had the leftover second half for lunch the next day, without even bothering to heat it up in the hotel lobby microwave, it was still nice. I only had the breakfast once, when I treated myself to the french toast. It was a bit intimidating coming out to the table being made of thick slices of baguette, but turns out baguette is the ideal french toast bread! The texture was literally perfect, not mushy, not too firm. The whipped cream was decadent and even the berry garnishes were a needed pop of freshness in a rich dish. Not to even mention the drinks. I love that they have a mocktail menu, especially since I personally like to space cocktails with non alcoholic drinks to pace myself and stay hydrated. I also had a sore throat most of my trip in the aftermath of a cleared up cold, and I survived off the blueberry bliss mocktail. The gin and jam cocktail was in season during my trip, and I'm so glad it was- its absolutely delicious. They make the blueberry compote used in it fresh and it absolutely shows. What really makes this place above and beyond, though, is the service. Every night I was there, I chatted away with whoever was serving me, be it in the bar or when I was in the bistro for breakfast. Every single server, bar tender, and I believe a supervisor or manager who was there a couple times, was amazing. Super friendly, super on top of service even on the couple nights I saw it busy. I wish I'd caught names so I can shout them all out, but even if I had I'm unfortunately terrible at recalling them. So let me just give my personal blanket appreciation to the entire staff- you're all stellar, and you all made my first visit to Minneapolis so wonderful, I can't wait to be back. read more
