Tried Rubys again after my first bad experience and I am sold! This time I sat in the bar area which was so nice and relaxing. The vibes were great and I loved the piano player! I tried the steak and lobster special with mashed potatoes and asparagus. All of it was perfectly cooked. The lobster was juicy and the steak was tender with great flavor. I will be back!

I have been a great fan of Jeff Ruby's restaurants for decades, beginning with the Precinct in 1985, and have had great food and impeccable service. However, on my most recent visit to the Steakhouse in downtown Cincinnati, I had a different experience with the food. While the service was warm and friendly, I experienced a situation with my meal. I ordered the Filet Scampi (6oz filet, garlic herb shrimp, potato gnocchi). I asked for my filet to be medium with very little pink. It arrived rare, with deep red in the center and without a garnish as if someone had whisked it out way before it's time. Our server quickly took it back to the kitchen and returned with a garnished plate. Unfortunately, the steak this time was well done and tough. This was such a disappointment, as I had dined at this location previously and had wonderful experiences. Previously, the filet cut like butter and was perfect. On this visit, it was undercooked and without garnish (see photos), and then overcooked but arrived topped with garnish. I really couldn't eat it. Thankfully, the shrimp were in great shape. Again, the server stepped in and offered to make it right. At this point, my dinner companions were done with their meal, so she offered to give me a filet to take home, which I gratefully accepted. I began the meal with a fabulous blue crab bisque and classic Caesar salad that were both wonderful. Note that the bisque is quite filling on its own. Our server provided a wonderful table-side prepared Bananas Foster dessert for the birthday celebration, which totally made the evening a success. I understand that restaurants can have bad days, and when that occurs, great service can lift the experience. Our server saved the day when the kitchen failed to show up.

I was unable to seated as a walk in Saturday night 8/1/2026. Called for a reservation for 1 on Sunday 8/2/3026 they told me nothing until 9:45 PM so I reserved for 2 on Open Table for 7:30 PM, woo hoo My server appeared to be interested in maximizing my check. First I ordered an Old Fashion. While I didn't explicitly name the Old Fashion on the cocktail menu I received the drink with many ice cubes. When I questioned she said that since I didn't order the one of the menu they use scooped ice, The true disappointment came when my drink was priced above the one on the menu. I ordered. While enjoying my crab bisque which was delightful I heard the bar tender share the special of the evening which included a salad, a 6oz. filet, petite lobster tail, mashed potatoes and asparagus, I subsequently asked about the special and canceled my original entree which was $28 more, no salad and no potatoes. I absolutely enjoyed my food and the ambiance not sure I had the best beautifully dressed server,

Jeff Ruby's is a steakhouse with an elegant vibe to it. To start the meal, they have complimentary bread and I really like the spread it came with! For my meal, I got my favorite cut of steak - ribeye. I had it with roasted garlic butter, and I really liked my steak! I also got tater tots and French fries as my sides. I really enjoyed the tater tots here, I think they're the biggest sized tater tots I've had!

Jeff Ruby's had great service, really made me feel taken care of. The hosts and waiters are well dressed and attentive. We shared these dishes between 2 and had more to take for home as we were full. Our faves were the Ruby roll, and the Australian ribcap wagyu. Love the variety in the menu. They served us truffle butter and regular butter with our bread baked fresh from a local bakery. The restaurant looks really lavish, and all guests are dressed for their sunday best. Tip: keep the truffle butter and add it to the steak!

Had a reservation and it was our first time. The waiter and his SA were not on it. Our waters never got refilled, they didn't ask how our steaks were cooked or if everything came out great. Wanted to order a glass of wine to go with our steaks and the waiter never came back. Felt extremely ignored. Ended up ordering dessert to go because we had wine at home. Was not worth it and the experience was subpar.

Great food, the crab cake (not pictured) was phenomenal. I liked it so much we ordered a second one for the table. I was more impressed by the seafood than the steaks, but overall delicious food. The crème brûlée for dessert was smooth and delicious and the chocolate shoe, though too sweet and dense for my personal taste, is a fun unique experience, and everyone else found it delicious. Our service was wonderful and it's a very classy location for a celebratory dinner. Would go again

This was our first time dining at Jeff Ruby's steakhouse. I want something very upscale lovely surroundings and of course delicious food. Jeff Ruby's did not disappoint our service provided by Hunter and Charlie was outstanding. We shared that we were celebrating a special occasion, our son's graduation and they went above and beyond to ensure that he felt special everything from the flavorful Tokyo slaw, the raw oysters with all the accoutrements, the steaks that were grilled to perfection, the delectable Chilean Seabass, the Potatoes Anna layered with clarified butter, and the ever so spicy Shishito peppers was amazing! We stayed there for about two hours just getting through the courses, but Charlie and Hunter did not rush us at all. The Liberace-like pianist was the entertaining. The sweet touch to personalize our menus with a congratulatory note to our graduate and the oversized celebratory cupcake at the end was fantastic! Simply wonderful!

4.5 / 5 a fun and interesting night of food! the excellent: wagyu meatball, blistered carrots (ordered as an appetizer), and the boneless 16 oz. delmonico ribeye. every single one of those plates was exceptional, the ribeye being one of the best bites of steak i've had all year. the good: tuna tartare, california roll, bone-in hatchet, petite filet mignon, and the air ruby. all of those were good, probably above good, but wouldn't go out of my way to order again. service was prompt and polite, the restaurant itself was lovely, and it's a place definitely worth checking out once!

Excellent food all around, maybe the highest quality steak in Cincy. I want to try their Nashville location and compare it to Bourbon Steak.

Yes, sitting in the bar area is no different than the restaurant area.

We have a reservation for "bar seating" - does this mean we will be seated at the bar or the bar area/room?

You will be at a table in the bar area. If you haven't been to Ruby's before you are in for treat. The atmosphere is elegant and the food is the best you will ever have. Steaks are out of this world. If you like seafood it is a treat as well and…

How likely would you have bar seating for 3 right when you open on Father's Day 6/19? I know reservations are not available (per open table). We want that Tomahawk :) !

Hello! Thank you for asking and our apologies for the delay. Seats at the bar are typically first come first serve!

Do they still serve the tomahawk steak?

Hello, Denisse! The Tomahawk Steak is not currently on the regular menu, but we will be offering it as a special for Father's Day this Sunday! We hope to see you soon!

Is Charlie still there? Anyone know where he went?

Hello! Thank you for asking. Charlie Bledsoe is General Manager at Carlo & Johnny. We hope to see you soon!

Will they allow you to split an entree?

    Absolutely!

Will they allow you to order a side portion of scallops with your steak?

I'm not sure but they seem like they want to please you there.

From the moment I sat down at the bar, owner Matt and the bartenders made me feel genuinely welcome. They took the time to learn my name, offer recommendations, and check in throughout the evening without ever being overbearing. It's a rare gift to make a solo guest feel seen while still giving them space to enjoy their own company. The food was outstanding. I ordered the baked brie with the honeycomb (trust me, get the honeycomb) and every bite was delicious. The combination of warm brie, puff pastry, honey, and nuts was incredible. Matt's wine recommendation was equally spot on. What impressed me most, though, was the atmosphere. Ripple strikes the perfect balance between sophisticated and comfortable. Whether you're on a date, catching up with friends, or simply enjoying a quiet evening alone, you'll feel right at home. I arrived as a first-time guest and left feeling like a regular. Covington is lucky to have this place. I'll definitely be back.

The bread from Allez Bakery that comes with the board is outstanding. Look forward to visiting again.

The place had a bygone era dignity, a european alfresco vibe (a la Sudova), a refined mediterranean food vibe (a la Abigail Street) and there was the whole 1937 thing. When we got there the owner explained this was the descendants of the founder of Gold Start Chili opening this as a homage to his vision of a restaurant as an elevated yet welcoming family place. The place it turns out reflects the fact that they bought what was a refined saloon (where the Brat Boyz might have met in the 50s), along with a decidedly modern vibe in the back. I could ramble on about the food, but the salad makes the point. Everything they have is familiar .. with a twist. The salad is extra fresh because it is a head of romaine artfully sauced with a test for herbivores to practice turkey carving skills. The other dishes mirror that sort of familiar-meets -twist take. Devilled eggs (something I decidedly avoid at buffets) was quite good, with a homemade chili oils and black salt. The staff was quite chill, engaging but not talking your ear off. Much of the staff were childhood buddies who decided (I guess successfully) to test their friendship by going into business to together. The only part I'd quibble is the '1937' thing (it's when the Gold Star owner was born, not 2020 when the restaurant opened). But you know, quibbles get muffled when uttered with a mouth full of Biscoff 'meatloaf' (thick cut) and home made OrangeCello.
