Wow! What a great experience. Marty showed up to my home after hours to help me install my smart lock. It was not an easy job, as I have an old door and it was not compatible with the new lock system. Marty was extremely professional and explained to me what the issue was, he spent a great deal of time not only installing the lock, but adjusting the entire system so that the door would be balanced and close properly. Great experience with Marty when I was locked out. He did an initial evaluation while on the initial phone call to make sure he could do the job, provided an upfront cost and arrived within 15 minutes. He gave me a heads up that the job would likely require drilling the lock but upon arriving, tested a few things and was actually able to open the lock without doing any damage. Called about rekeying locks around the house and not only did he show up within an hour (his business is close to the house) and give a thorough assessment of what needed to be done, he followed up with a quote, then showed up right on time with plenty of notice. His work is thorough, and he isn't looking to upsell anything. He also provided advice that went beyond the lock itself (like history of locksmithing, whether a lock would match the house's decor, having the locks be up to code for dwelling units, etc.). Marty installed a deadbolt for me this year. Prior to arriving he asked a few questions, and requested a few pictures. I had a deadbolt already, so I wasn't buying-I was just in need of his craftsmanship. Also, his knowledge. As you'l probably read elsewhere, he's the third and last in a line of Jefferson locksmiths. 10/1/19 Update As Marty predicted, the low-quality deadbolt he repaired four years ago eventually failed. He shook his head ruefully when I returned to him , then pronounced the deadbolt finally really dead. Then he had a thought. Marty has a LOT of used locks and doorknobs lying around. The first deadbolt assembly he laid hands on was a perfect replacement for my broken part, a piece of amazing luck since it's a no-name bit of hardware. Once again, he saved my bacon, then spent ten minutes tightening up another piece of the assembly until it passed muster. Marty is the BEST! read more

Martin is very knowledgeable about his work, which makes sense, he's a first rate, third generation locksmith. He'd come to install a decent deadbolt on a so so door. Finished, Martin started to flick the latch of the deadbolt. Back and forth. He had this fluidity, like a it was OK for a natural tick to manifest in celebration of the completion? More likely he was ensuring the internal pins were lined up. Then he wiped the face of the bolt, where he'd applied lipstick, a trade trick, in which the bolt guides the drill, kissing the frame.
