THE JEFFERSON MARKET AND GENERAL STORE DINING AREA JEFFERSON, MAINE
    Beth C.

I saw this establishment featured on Maine Street Saturday (WCSH 6) and vowed to check it out if I was ever in the Jefferson, Maine area. How fortuitous to have been in the region lately and stopped in for lunch. The market/general store offers breakfast, lunch, freshly made pizzas, salads, and classic favs like reubens, wraps, quesadillas, BLTs and grilled cheese. I ordered the Fire & Rescue consisting of freshly grilled buffalo chicken, lettuce, tomato, mozzarella/cheddar blend, & ranch on a toasted sub roll ($12.50). This sandwich was MASSIVE, shareable for sure!! This sandwich was expertly executed and an absolute FLAVOR BOMB!! The sandwich contained a huge amount of juicy grilled chicken with homemade buffalo sauce. Yum!! The general store features sundry items, including camping essentials, snacks, drinks and so many other necessities for the community. The staff was so friendly and welcoming, and the ambiance quintessential Maine. This was a great overall experience. This is a must visit if in the Jefferson area. I cannot wait to return!!

We found ourselves in Jefferson this week while doing some antiquing. We stopped into this roadside market. It was a cute, bright and clean establishment. They have many provisions for the locals and those passing by. They have a central kitchen with many great options. The dining area had a great eclectic and comfortable feel. We split a buffalo chicken sub. The sandwich was a foot long and loaded with chicken. The bread was the perfect consistency to be toasted without being too dry. The chicken was seasoned with buffalo sauce which had great flavor, mildly spicy though just a little over salted for my taste. It had good tomatoes and lettuce all drizzled with ranch. Overall a solid 9.8 out of 10. We did splurge and split a brownie which was moist and hit the spot. There were about 4 people working in there and all were professional. They put out good products and take a lot of pride in their workplace. If you find yourselves in the area you should stop in!

2 eggs over easy, potatoes, ham, and a Chase Farm English muffin.

Best little market ever! Wicked good breakfast omelettes! The store also has little treasures you can purchase from local crafters etc.

Great local market, their sandwiches and pizza are always GTG! Has most of the daily staples when we run out of needed essentials!

A Reuben that was decent: kraut not too sour and heaps of pastrami (ain't a Jewish deli but quite respectable).

I'm updating my review because I have now been to the Morse's Mothership, and holy WOW. Aside from…read moretheir OG sauerkraut and pickles, this is not just a specialty deli and grocery but a veritable nirvana of European food products (mostly but not solely Northern). Condiments! Candy! Teas and coffees! Pastas and grains! Sauces and soups! Tubes of tasty stuff you can't pronounce! Jams and jellies! And so much more. Have a hankering for some German mustard strong enough to curl your nostrils? It's here. A fan of allllll the Scandinavian candies? They got you. Nostalgic for weird British shit like Marmite and Salad Cream and Brown Sauce (or how about curling up with some nice biscuits and a good strong cuppa)? Wanna try some pickled herring or real German sausages? Yeah baby, you're gonna be happy here. And that's before you even get to the deli--oh wait, there's a wine selection over in that corner, and here are some nice cutting boards and omg do I need a raclette grill? Oooh, nice olive oils too. Anyhow on to the deli . . . where not only is there the sauerkraut that made Morse's famous but an even bigger pickle selection than you can find elsewhere. I got some half-sours, which are bright and crisp and just feel like summer. Don't leave without idling around the deli counter to pick out some meats and cheeses (which you can sample): I got wonderful pastrami and a couple of different cheeses----the selection of Alpines in particular is top-notch. Super friendly staff who will absolutely help you find that one weird product you remember from a Eurail trip in the 80s, and also help you box up the tons of stuff you buy. (There's a reason they only have larger baskets up front, lol.) I also want to add that while I spent more than I'd planned (no complaints, only my lack of restraint), the prices here overall are really good, especially for specialty items like this! Will absolutely make the trip from Portland again (nice guy on staff told me Christmas is especially good). I'll be there!

Excellent sauerkraut yes, but so much more. The foodstuff they carry is a European…read moredream--everything from marzipan to nuts, and so much more. They have refrigerated food as well and it is worth spending an afternoon exploring. The cheeses and meats that they offer are exquisite and plentiful--anything from mortadella to aged cheddar, as well as pickles and, you guessed it, sauerkrauts of different kinds. You can spend several minutes sampling everything they offer. They are knowledgable and kind--and that's what I like about them.

A gem of a supermarket within walking distance of downtown Damarscotta. Anything your heart…read moredesires.. from raw milk to fancy wine. Organic fruit amply available. Home made delicious ginger molasses gargantuan cookies a must. Best of all an electric plug for my hybrid with comfortable seats to wait for the charge. You don't have to be a $10 member to shop. Helpful staff and excellent parking.

My husband and I have always been a bit shocked at the prices yes. So we have not shopped here much…read moreover the past few years. But. Not wanting to spend another $50 on lunch at the usual places in town we decided to grab some tuna salad today and eat outside. I bought an Asian salad with noodles and peanuts and carrots and incredible dressing. I swear, this was the best salad I've had in months if not years. I'm not kidding. Even the carrots stood out, were different. Delicious. The fennel is 2 or 3 times bigger than fennel at the grocery stores, $4.99 (usually about $3.99 at the others) 4 kinds of plantain chips. Fantastic low sugar pineapple soda from Mexico. Beautiful corn. After eating this food today at a picnic table over on Pemaquid Pond, we are doing a complete reversal and going to start shopping here a lot more. Yes it's expensive but vegetables do taste different, esp when they're not flown in from far away. And the attitudes of the employees is joyful and welcoming, such a good feeling. Good Job Rising Tide!
