Classic Chicago-style fast food place. Delicious food with unbeatable prices. The staff is excellent and fast moving. Jeff is gregarious and takes pride in the service he provides. I am surprised every time I go here at the quality of the food for the price I pay. My go-to order is the superdog with fries. It is one massive hotdog that they char nicely with split ends. The fries and onion rings all come in massive bags. One order will more than suffice for 2-3 people. All of the toppings are fresh. They even sell high-quality small batch olive oil, made by someone related to Jeff I believe. There's just a general sense of quality even though it is low-cost fast food. They have a large menu, and I haven't tried the majority of it. As far as hot dogs go, I can assure you this is one of the best in the city. I believe it's a family owned business . I've been coming here since I was a teenager and I forgot about this place . I havnt been in so long . And coming back and seeing the same faces brings back memories . They are so friendly and welcoming . I totally forgot how much I used to always order their BANANA MILK SHAKE . Soooooooo good! I've been here once when I first moved into the area. I had their italian beef, french fries and pop. The italian beef was good, but could use a little more flavor. The french fries were like any other... nothing special. The cleanliness of the dining area wasn't kept up with and there were a few chairs that were cracked to the point that they can't be used. The ventilation sucks too... it was just too hot inside, almost unbearable. My appetite was satisfied, but I'll have to see if I can find better local hot dog place. read more

The first time that I went to Jeff's I ordered 2 hot dogs and fries, didn't realize that it was cash only and I didn't have my debit card. The cashier, who I assume was the owner, gave me the food and told me to enjoy it. It was one of the best hot dogs that I have ever had. This place is great! The larger gauge model train running around the perimeter of the room is a very nice touch! And I really like the fact the Jeff is behind the counter on a Friday night! The quality of the food is very good and they are playing old school music and I like it! It's not a fancy place, just an old school classic hot dog joint but they do have a little extra something! The people are nice and I do like the style of the place. They do have some healthy options on the menu too, like turkey burgers, salads and other stuff. If you're in the neighborhood definitely give this place a try. It's authentic for sure. Born and raised in Chicago. Bbq beef with hot peppers was my favorite growin up. Currently living in Los Angeles the last 12 years. Beefs, polishes, and gyros are pretty much non existent over there so needless to say, I got it out my system. This place made me remember why I use to love beefs and Chicago food so much. Skinny fries were crispy and beef was on point. Only thing that would have made it better was to toast the bread a bit but it still bomb. 9 dollars well spent. I paid Jeff's a visit Post Steve Vretto era. RIP Steve. Knew him for over 20 years. Great guy. So how is the food post Steve era? Still great. Ordered the Gyro plate and steak sandwich Mom had the hot dogs and gyro plate. The gyro is so good. I don't think I've had the gyros from here. Sorry I hadn't. I've been to many gyro places and I think Jeff's is the best I've ever had. The meat is sliced nice and thin. Now portion size. Compared to other places that offer gyro plates. I didn't get as much as say Gyro Eats but it was still pretty generous. I had thought Gyro Eats was the best. Jeff's took the top spot. I told you earlier I also ordered the steak sandwich. That was subpar. Wasn't even filling at all. Very small. Mr D's will always be the best but had to try it anyways. My mom liked their dogs. The sauerkraut gives it a unique twist on a Chicago dog. I may give the Italian beef sandwich another try one day. Didn't care for it last time. Hopefully the workers there keep up the good work and keep the place going for Steve. read more

Went here a bunch of times for lunch, but always ordered the same thing so I decided to review them 5 stars based on their consistency to deliver a consistently fresh product and always positive customer service experience. All I ever ordered from this place was the 2 hotdogs 1 charred 1 steamed everything with sauerkraut, with fries that weren't fresh cuts but always fresh and lightly seasoned, and a drink. Every time I went in there was about the same time whenever I took my lunch there and I would see the same people there. So this is definitely a neighborhood restaurant place and can't really say anything bad about the place and everyone there is courteous. read more

Bring cash for it is cash only, unless you wanna pay that ATM fee to use the one in store. Hot dog was astounding, really loved the addition of kraut to mine. I know that it may vary from the norm but hey, tasted delicious and thats all that matters. The french fries that came with them I would describe as shoestringish? Thin and crispy. Small place near 6 corners with a tiny parking lot. Inside is small but with plenty of seating and barstools at the windows which is best! The staff was nice and the place seemed clean. Really a perfectly typical Chicago hot dog place. I think Jeff was there too as there was a guy there who was nice to everyone and matched the pictures on the walls. Stopped on a Saturday and got two hot dog and fry meals with two medium drinks. Hot dogs are natural casing on a steamed poppyseed. Everything includes: mustard, onion, pickle, tomato and sport peppers - and they offered sauerkraut - which I did not have. The hot dogs were tasty with good snap. I had everything on mine, the onions were fresh, the tomatoes were just passable but hey, it's not really tomato season here. OK, most important-THE FRIES - they were hot, skinny and tasty -salt to taste. All in all, a good place that I'd go back to. In fact, while I was there, a girl came in and ordered a hot dog with just ketchup. Yep. They treated her nice and didn't hassle her. They said nothing... I love this place so much. I went to visit Chicago last year for my birthday. I've always heard hype on Chicago dogs as I was growing up and finally got to see what it was about. Best hot dogs I've ever had. I love how they have the peppers in there because I can always go for some heat. Jeff's was just a few blocks from my girlfriend's aunt's place. We would walk over there to grab some dogs. Me and my girlfriend live in Sacramento, CA and she went to Chicago to visit without me and I asked her to stop by Jeff's to bring me back some hot dogs on the plane. She brought back 4. I had to pick her up from San Francisco airport and I ate all 4 on the drive back home. She's a keeper. They also had so many other things on the menu there, but couldn't get passed the dogs. hopefully next time we'll try other stuff. read more

I've been in Chicago for over two years and only just tried an Italian beef ( I know, I know). Unfortunately, my first amazing experience with that sandwich was not here. When I went to Jeff's Red Hots to recreate the experience ( because this is much more convenient to my place), I was disappointed to find a dingy space filled with grumpy employees. I ordered an Italian beef ( which was ok, but not as good as the one I tried at Outdoor Grill on Milwaukee) and two tamales. For almost 2 bucks a pop for the tamales, I was expecting something at least palatable. Instead I got a teeny, tiny prepackaged , misshapen atrocity. It was so mushy it was pretty much inedible and despite having a "beef" filling, the only flavor was the overwhelming taste of mushed cornmeal. Perhaps their other items made in-house are better, but I doubt I will be back to try it. read more

This place has been here for years. I have been coming here for some time now, and it's never bad. My usual order is (but not always in this order): A hot dog with everything, a pita taco, and a pizza puff. I also would recommend the gyro plate (or even the gyro), the double cheeeburger, or definitely the FRENCHEEZIE. OOOOH my goodness! Those are totally a heartattack in a basket but if you're going to go, that's a pretty great way! The staff there are always nice and friendly. There are so many things on the menu, and it makes for a real nice selection. The pricing is decent also, usual hot dog stand prices. Also, try the milkshakes. They are also really good. FYI - I am rating them four stars instead of five simply because they don't accept credit cards - its cash only. There IS an ATM in the place availble to use, but it's a pain in the butt taking out money and paying a fee if you don't have cash with you...it would certainly make things a lot better if they accepted credit cards. read more

The hotdogs are what makes Jeff's special. I'm talking about the actual hot dog/wiener they use- it's better than most. It has a good snap/pop when you bite into it and really is just about perfect. An added bonus is the sauerkraut option- I like kraut on my dog and Jeff's got it. So overall, this place is not pretty, ordering food always seems a little chaotic and the other food items are just OK in my opinion. But I really like the dogs they serve, so I go 4 stars based on the dogs alone. I don't go here for anything else. read more
