A local chain, this is the fourth location. The stars are for the artful decor and for the server who determinedly attempted to make our stay a positive experience. But the drink and food preparations were...amateurish. I asked for a smoked old-fashioned (or "Gunslinger", as it's called here), which somehow became a watered-down house bourbon on ice. That was after a lengthy wait in which the server apologized because "the manager is unable to light the smoker". We also ordered the Ahi Tuna Tower. From the menu description we expected a chilled, bright ahi dish akin to poke or ceviche. What we received, though, was cooked, warm, tasteless cut-up fish. We were going to order dinner, but cut our stay short. Disappointing. PS - I kept having a déjà vu feeling while we sat in the bar area. Jekyll & Hyde Taphouse & Grill in Fort Mill has a really fun, thematic atmosphere that makes it stand out from the usual spots in the area. The décor and vibe give the place a lot of personality, and it made for an enjoyable dinner date for me and my wife. Service was excellent during our visit. Our server was incredibly pleasant, attentive, and full of great suggestions. The beer selection was another highlight, with an extensive set of choices. The only small downside was my wife's wings. She wasn't thrilled with the sauce she chose, which was a bit of a letdown, but everything else we tried hit the mark. I had the 18xx Chicken Sandwich (minus the bun). Glad I went without the bun because that thing would have been a bit of a beast to try and eat as a sandwich. Overall, it's a great spot with a cool atmosphere, and an impressive beer lineup. I feel comfortable recommending though I'd likely try a steak or burger option. Update: Two more visits and I've tried two other entrees: the Ooey-Gooey Grilled Cheese Sandwich and the Spinach and Salmon Salad. I had the salad because I wasn't especially hungry on that visit. It was neither bad nor outstanding. The grilled cheese sandwich was, indeed, as advertised, both ooey and gooey and both in a good way. I'm still interested to try a burger on a future visit. On one of our visits, the kitchen team apparently used the tuna that was meant for my wife's Seared Ahi Tuna Salad for another meal which resulted in an additional 15-minute wait time for our food. I've been here three different times for three very different experiences, dinner in the dining hall, late night food in the bar area, and New Year's Eve drinks, and each visit had a very different outcome. Dinner in the dining hall: This was by far the best experience. The food was good, came out in a timely manner, and the service was great. I would absolutely recommend coming for dinner. Late night menu / bar area: Unfortunately, this visit was not good. The service was bad. The late night food itself wasn't worth the wait, which was disappointing compared to our dinner experience. New Year's Eve: The overall vibe was fun and lively. Great atmosphere for ringing in the new year. However, the beer service needs improvement. The male bartender clearly didn't know how to pour beer properly. Every single one of the five different beers our group ordered was nearly half foam and half beer. I understand they were being served in plastic cups, but even so, the weight and appearance of the drinks made it obvious they were not properly poured or filled. Decor: love! It's a really attractive restaurant with a commitment to the theme. Service: hmmm. It took 13 minutes for our server to even acknowledge us. She was friendly but slow on service. I honestly don't know what happened here. The ambience is a little louder than expected but nice, the service was decent. The drinks? Very nice. But the food... my friend ordered the shepherd's pie, and I had the grilled scallops and risotto. My friend enjoyed the shepherd's pie from a previous incarnation of this restaurant and was really looking forward to it. To say she was disappointed with this version would be an understatement. Instead of the classic shepherd's pie, it was more of a beef and vegetable stew with a scoop of mashed potatoes in the middle. My scallops tasted OK, but they were overcooked and small, and the risotto they were served with was thick and had too much Parmesan cheese in it. I like cheese, and I like rice, but I couldn't even finish it. And I didn't enjoy the unrendered bits of bacon that were mixed into the risotto. The taste was tolerable, but those occasional chunks of unrendered fat were unpleasant. My date, who chose the place, actually apologized to me when we left. I give this a 3.5 stars for now. I do plan to return. We visited this new restaurant in Baxter as a party of four on a Saturday night. While the place is clearly still finding its rhythm, there are a few bright spots worth noting. Despite making a reservation through the website, we still waited 20 minutes for a table. One hostess, Hailey, seemed to be handling the front on her own and was doing her best under pressure, but it was clear the staff was overwhelmed. We had made a reservation online on the restaurant website and received a confirmation text earlier in the day. However, after we were already seated at our table, I received another text saying our reservation had been canceled--without any explanation. That was pretty confusing and left us unsure about what had happened behind the scenes. We loved the decor inside. However, the music inside was uncomfortably loud--not lively or energetic, just too noisy. It made conversation difficult, and we found ourselves having to raise our voices to speak with each other and even to place our order with the server. That said, our server was excellent. She checked on us regularly, kept our drinks filled, and was very personable throughout the evening. Her service was one of the highlights of the experience. Food-wise, there were definite highlights. I had the scallops and risotto, and they were excellent--perfectly cooked and flavorful. The pimento cheese balls were a standout appetizer, possibly the best I've ever had. They were eaten too fast for a photo. The bacon rack was okay - fatty and thick and needed more seasoning. On the flip side, my daughter found the chicken in the chicken and risotto dish bland, and the potato soup was too heavy on milk for our liking. My husband's steak was not a medium, but more of a well-done. The prices are on the higher end, so it's worth knowing that going in. That said, the manager did stop by to apologize for the delay in bringing out our main courses, and gave us a slice of chocolate cake to share - which was really tasty, and that was a thoughtful touch. All in all, this restaurant has strong potential. So this place has a SteamPunk vibe to it. You can see from my pictures the gears and lights were really neat. We arrived quarter past four on a wednesday afternoon. It was lightly populated with guests at a few tables. It was one of the hottest days of the year and unfortunately we were sat near the front door so we never really got a chance to cool off. We had a lovely young lady serve us. This being our first time, there were many things on the menu that intrigued us. But please be advised that the Lunch menu ends at three pm. My mother was sad not to be able to get the fish tacos she was looking forward too. So we started off with what I say is a must have, the Bavarian Pretzel! It's so big, with a crusty exterior and soft bread inside. It comes with two dipping sauces which adds to the flavor. So good! We also wanted to try the Hyde's Hangin Candy Bacon. It literally comes out hanging which is very kewl. I felt the bacon was a bit overdone. As my dad put it "burnt". I think it was dark from the pepper and brown sugar they used to candy it but it didn't really have a sweet flavor to it like I thought it may. On to the entrée's. I love a good chicken sandwich and the 1885 Chicken Sandwich didn't disappoint. A massive piece of chicken breast with a yummy fried coating on it. I was a little disappointed in the sweet and spicy hot honey sauce that is drizzled on it. It was more like a hot honey buffalo sauce. I'm not a fan of buffalo sauce because of the vinegar in it. So that was slightly off putting for me but it did not stop me from enjoying the sandwich. It has a spicy kick to it and the sauce tends to drip everywhere. The fries were fries. My dad ordered the Fish and chips. He got a decent sized piece of cod. I would have liked to see two pieces but it's understandable. Again, the fries were fries. The fish was cooked well but he did not care for the coleslaw. He said it was "Dry". Since mom couldn't get the fish tacos she ordered the White Spinach and mushroom flatbread and added grilled chicken to it. The flatbread was cooked perfectly and their was plenty of toppings. She really enjoyed it. On to dessert. I absolutely had to get the creme brulee! It was a good sized portion of it as you don't want to much because it can be rich. I was disappointed with the top of it. The sugar was thin and almost non-existent. It didn't offer that good crack when you hit it with your spoon to break the top. Nor did it really offer a nice bite to the smooth creme below. But overall, it was very yummy. My parents split the Strawberry cheesecake. We were once again disappointed as the turtle cheesecake they ordered had apparently "run out". Mom said it was good but it was more of a mouse, then a layer of actual cake then a layer of cheesecake. Dad said "I'm waiting to taste the cheesecake". So take it as you will. On to the service. As I said when we arrived it was nearly empty but yet it did take some time to get everything. There seemed to be a lot of people standing around so I don't think it was a lack of service members. God knows what the wait would be later on for the people when it was a packed house. When it did get full, the noise volume really increased! It was very hard to talk over that noise level. Also there was a rather loud and annoying dinging sound coming from what appeared to be an open air kitchen. We realized after a while that it was probably the system letting the cooks know when an order came in. When it was quiet earlier it was rather annoying to keep hearing the dinging. Later I think you can't hear it over the volume of talking voices. Just something to think about if you go early and hear it. Overall we really enjoyed ourselves. We will be back because I want to try their brunch menu and the chocolate cake looks yummy! read more

A solid ok at best. First off the place looks really nice!! Unfortunately, it's just a dressed up dive bar with high prices right now. The quality of food and service does not match the atmosphere or the prices My server was nice, even after I become clearly unhappy and annoyed. I ordered the Ahi Tower app and a drink to start. Both came out quickly and tasted amazing. When he dropped off the app I ordered my main course and a drink to go with it. Unfortunately, he immediately brought the drink out even though I still had a full drink and appetizer since he JUST gave those to me. Then they came back to let me know the smoker is broken and was it ok if the meat wasn't smoked. So do you expect me to think you are smoking the meat to order?? Anyway I said that's fine and he came back in less than 5 minutes with my main while I was not even halfway through my appetizer. Felt super rushed and now my main course is sitting while I try to enjoy my starter. I waited until completely finished eating to order dessert so I didn't get that halfway through. My main was the Shepherd Pie which was pretty good if wildly under seasoned. Maybe if the smoker was working it would be better? For dessert I had Bread Pudding which was the star of the day!! We had a great meal here. We go out at 4pm on Fridays, so sometimes shift changes cause service issues. Not the case here, A server just took control, seated us and waited on us while the rest of the place was starting and finishing shifts. Excellent draft beer selection, maybe the best in town, unique and local. Cocktail menu was good and my wife chose one she liked and it 'smoked', very cool presentation. The food was excellent, my wife said that was the best burger she has had in a long time. My Rueben was very good. It was clear that they use very good ingredients, especially protein. Took my mother there for the first time last night. It was her 89 birthday. The artichoke. Was over chard ou the outside. Cold and not cooked enough. The dinner arrived before we could even send it back. Told them just to keep it because or dinners had arrived . The server knew it was mom's birthday. No candle on dessert or a happy birthday wish. The tuna was tossed in a vinaigrette ( swimming ) all the wontons were soggy. Will probably not be back. Too many other places in Baxter to eat. Was really hope to fine another place to eat. Hardly any seasoning on it so I asked for some of the side. Then my boyfriend got the dry aged pork chop and for $28 you would think it's going to be the best pork chop of your life but it had an odd taste to it. He said it was dry and flavorless except for gristle. Crab dip had a fishy taste, came in a small bowl and only had a thin layer of dip. Service was great, made sure we had everything we needed but the food extremely lacked, which is crazy considering the price of everything. I really wanted to have a good experience and we even brought our best friends to feast here for the first time. It was lunch and not crowded. Our experience was mixed but it was an absolutely let down for me and my meal. My wife's chicken bowl was solid. Nicely charred chicken over a flavorful bowl. Our friend's burger was good but not anything special. My steak sandwich was an epic fail. The bread was stale and barely had any protein. The hoagie bun was so tough that I ended up just eating the stuff inside. So disappointing! The chicken strip appetizer was stringy like the microwaveable crap you get frozen. Wish I could rewind the clock and just went to McAllister's instead. Yeah, it was that disappointing. Hope it gets better and survives. We had the ahi tuna tower for an appetizer and it was a large portion that was really fresh and tasty! It was a good serving for two people. I saw other tables that had the candied bacon appetizer where there are 4 thick strips of candied bacon hanging on clips. I also saw someone get the Bavarian pretzel and it looked large and soft with enough to feed a table of 4. For entrees we had the scallops over a bacon risotto and a grilled chicken breast over a mushroom risotto. Scallops were cooked perfectly and chicken was done well. Both risottos were very thick and there was so much we couldn't finish it. There was a balsamic glaze on the bowl of the chicken and mushroom risotto that I thought didn't go with the dish at all. Overall, I would go back. Now, downsides: I had to ask 3 times for a glass of water. Our appetizer was delivered before our drinks. My sister ordered a Basil Hayden Manhattan which first came in a cracked glass so it had to be remade and when we got the bill it was $17! My entire entree was $18 so I think one drink for $17 is pretty high. For the two of us we ordered one app, one entree each and had one alcohol drink each. The bill was $120. read more

It's a cool looking location. Food is meh though. The filet, is laughable. I've never seen a smaller filet served in a legit restaurant. The bourbon bacon burger doesn't actually come with bacon unless you pay extra for it. Make it make sense lol. The two strips you pay an extra 3$ for is in reality one piece broken in half. Server Max was great really, did a great job and appeared cool under the pressure of a Friday Night. 7 oz. Sirloin with 2 sides for $19 was an incredible value. Broccolini and Onion Ring sides were perfect. The candied bacon appetizer was more like a pork belly dish with very little of the fat rendered out. It tasted good and was of high quality but I think a lot of people (including the two women with us) would choose to cut around the fat which is basically the whole thing. This has become a popular dish at steakhouses and typically it is a lot crispier, at least the whole exterior. The candied element should be more of a lacquer that shines. This was not like that. The fat wasn't rendered so the candied element couldn't stick to the bacon. This dish could be perfected with some attention to the technique. Most people don't like flabby bacon and that's what this was. Chicken and Risotto I sampled was delicious. Sheppards pie looked good. Chocolate cake for dessert was off the charts. Hot coffee with it was quite good as well. Excited to have this place but echoing (no pun intended) the sentiment about the noise. It got extremely loud as the evening went on. All hard surfaces. The minor short comings of further rendering the bacon (I would simply request this) and the acoustics are totally fixable. I was excited to try Jacqueline Hide's in Fort Mill. We had a great waiter named Josh who was able to come to the table and get us anything we needed and was always around when we did need him. I started out with a homemade pretzel with a mustard sauce and a beer cheese sauce. It was delicious fresh from the oven and hot. The place is decorated really cute and also had the Christmas decorations up already. I ordered the gooey gooey grilled cheese with tomato and bacon. My sandwich was good as far as the cheese tomato and bacon went, but the bread was just white on grilled bread that felt like it should have been cooked in a frying pan with some butter. My side was the crispy brussels sprouts they were really really good. A couple of the other people had hamburgers which some said we're good and some said we're just OK. Another person in our party had fish and chips which they complained a little bit about the size of the fish and only getting one piece they did say it was cooked well And tasted fresh, but didn't like the size factor. I would say it would be a good chance that we would go back there and try it again as long as we could have Josh for a waiter.! read more

Service left much to be desired, especially considering it was not very busy. Drinks took forever and some were forgotten until the server was reminded. Pretzel and pimento cheese bites were good. Chicken sandwich was good. Fries are frozen fries, whatever. Steak sandwich had a weird taste and was dry. It's supposed to be a petite filet on the sandwich but they cooked it to death, it tasted more like overcooked sirloin. Broccolini was good for being steamed in a bag. Several restaurants, boutiques, etc. It was very crowded as it was a Friday night but we got a high top in the bar area. The selection of micro beers was extensive. I had the Oktoberfest which was really good and my wife had a gin and soda. Although we didn't order food the menu has a good selection and variety.
