Five star dumplings - some of the best I've ever had. The skins are made perfectly, thin in the center and thicker towards the outer rims. The fillings weren't too oily or salty. Super juicy and great flavor. Both the regular steamed dumplings and the soup dumplings were very delicious. About 8$ for 8 pieces depending on the filling (can mix flavors). Pricey by Asian standards but I'm willing to pay that if the quality continues. Also one order (8) was plenty for me, I think the sizes are just right. The rest of the menu is just so blah. The cumin lamb was realllllllly salty. For almost 16$ the portions were small. The noodle soup (pork and radish) had good broth but the actual noodle was all wrong! Wrong texture, zero chewiness, it tasted like pasta. The spicy wontons were ok- they weren't really spicy at all. If u order dumplings this is not worth ordering. I think it's really strange that they have Caucasian hostess but Chinese only servers? Would only come back for their dumplings. read more

Was craving beef noodle soup and totally hyped up this place, but accidentally got the beef tendon soup thinking there was tendon and beef in it. It's all tendon. I don't understand. The juicy dumplings were amazing! I had them for the first time when I visited NY a few months ago and had been craving some more ever since, and this place did not disappoint. We had the curry chicken as well as the beef juicy dumplings and they were great! We had also had the beef turnover which by itself was just ok, but with soy sauce and chili paste it was pretty good as well. The Juicy Buns were delicious and the fresh homemade noodles are delicious as well. I've been going to Jeng Chi since I was eight, when we first moved here - back then, they weren't even half of the size of the restaurant now and had maybe one or two tables in the entire restaurant. Like my sis, I always get the same thing - shredded dried tofu with pork, wonton soup, and the combination fried rice. Sometimes I get their marinated pig ear too - yum. Their flavor is consistently good, and everyone I've introduced their fried rice to says it's the best they've had. This is one of the best Chinese places in the entire DFW area. It's very authentic compared to most of the Chinese places in the area. This isn't exactly your typical sit down Chinese restaurants. It's more focused on small dishes that you order in masses (dumplings, green onion pies, xiaolongbao, and many more Chines cuisine). You can order more typical Asian dishes you see at most Chinese restaurants, but more people go here for the dumplings and the like. Good price and absolutely delicious. Well, Its been years since I have been back to Jeng Chi. The food is very westernized so it should be liked by all. The service was mediocre, the prices a bit high, but the overall experience was ok. We were a party of 5 - we had a table for 6 but it was hard to share dishes. If you can swing a round table for a bigger group I recommend it. The soup dumplings had good flavor, however, the noodle was a bit tough. The won ton soup was ok - not the best I've had. I did like the golden beef and the orange beef -- the green beans with pork were not at all what I was expecting, they should have had some salt and red chili flake in them to make them traditionally Chinese. I liked the salt and pepper shrimp and the pork and dried tofu dish - they had good flavor and met expectations. Every time I'm in the Richardson area, I always get this craving for Jeng Chi... Especially for their fried onion pancake! Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. Their assortment of dumplings is not small, and all are very good. Personal favorite will always be the small juicy dumplings. Another item I always get is the hot and sour soup. Another plus is that every time I seem to go by myself or with a friend, I end up spending less than $15 (per person), and that's a great value! Why oh why did I wait 7 years to go here? This is the best Chinese restaurant in Texas I've tried to date! It's unassuming from the outside, but once you walk in, bam. This place is big, with a lot of wide open space. Perfect for large gatherings. The front half of the restaurant serves as a cafe' with deserts, while the back half serves everything else. I'm sure you can order whatever from either side though. The menu is extensive, with a lot of vegetarian dishes that are clearly marked. Spicier dishes are marked as such too. The vegan spinach soup and millet soup (hello, gluten free + vegan), stood out to me as items I haven't seen elsewhere. The hot & sour soup is vegetarian. Great to know as I'm a hot & sour soup fan, but most is made with beef and/or pork. Ultimately I went for the vegetarian steamed dumplings and vegetarian noodle/vegetable soup, which had some pieces of tofu in it. Both were OUTSTANDING. The dumplings are served with a vinegar like dipping sauce with shredded ginger. The soup had green noodles which are a (very tasty) mystery to me. The vegetables in the soup were obviously fresh, not frozen or canned. The portion size was generous. The food quality is high. Homemade in house. Simple and clean. I didn't feel sluggish after eating here. The restaurant itself is very clean and free of bad smells. The kitchen in the very back is actually visible to diners, which is entertaining and adds a vote of confidence regarding sanitation. My server was friendly and attentive. She came to check on me multiple times, which is a major plus in my book. When it was time to pay up, my total was under $20.00. And my server had a card reader attached to a phone that made checking out so convenient. First time I've seen such a thing at a restaurant. I didn't think it was possible to top my experience. But Jeng Chi outdo themselves by offering steam buns to go. 24 for under $7.00. And if you pay for them in cash you get a little discount. I couldn't say no. As good if not better than Royal China. Great place very comfy. Good for families. Great food. 2nd time I have been here and noticed that the dumpling quality appears to be better at regular dinner times and slightly deteriorates if you eat at closing time i.e. 9-10pm. Things I ordered: Beef tendon dark broth noodle soup: The broth is really tasty better than monkey king and the tendon is really good but the noodles were rather brittle and not to my liking. I think getting just the soup without the noodles would be better. Wonton in spicy sauce: Quite good flavorful without being overly dunked into the sauce so you can eat the dumplings to your preference (more sauce or less sauce) Pocketed tofu hot pot: Really good the tofu has a flavorful shell that creates a unique texture. Theres some vegetables and wood ear mushrooms. The broth is somewhat bland in a good way if that makes sense and the glass noodles are a nice touch. Cold duck: Not much to be said good overall quality Fish in spicy peppers: Lots of flavor very tasty I really liked it personally though the fish has an odd texture. Steamed rice: This is my only big problem with this place and I honestly considered taking a star off for this but the service kept me happy. Their rice has parts which are a bit hard both times I came here. This is only for steamed rice though and doesnt affect their fried rice. We love this place typically. But we ordered from their website tonight, reached the confirmation page, and were charged for our order. When we got to the restaurant, they told us it wasn't ready yet. It's a busy night, so we waited another thirty minutes then called them again (from curbside pickup). Turns out they didn't have our order. Despite the charge on our bank account, they required us to pay again and told us to call if the charge doesn't drop off. While they were very polite, I'm surprised they required us to pay again. I'm disappointed that their online ordering system doesn't work. Had the beef noodle soup there. It was under par. Didn't taste like traditional beef noodle soup at all. Soup base did not taste like beef broth at all, it tasted just like some chili oil with salty hot water. Also, we had the eggplant with garlic sauce. Taste was off. It was sweet and sour (too vinegary) instead of salty and garlicky. Also, we had the snow pea greens with garlic. Thas was ok. It's hard to screw up with sauteeing some greens with garlic. The clientele were more non chinese than chinese, a sign that the food is not authentic. I'm done with this place. Not coming back any more. That said, if you are non chinese and not picky with authenticity, you may like this place because they do serve many semi authentic chinese food items and the place is cleaner and better decorated and provide better service than most chinese restaurant. read more

Always top notch food and service. One of the few restaurants I feel completely safe eating inside of because of their mask wearing and social distancing policies. I am a vegetarian and go with friends and family who have various dietary restrictions - gluten free, paleo, no red meat, small meals, picky eaters, etc. Everyone has always had more than enough options. This place felt right, looked right, and smelled right from the moment I walked in (almost on par with San Francisco, based on my limited experience in that city). I tried many things: fermented eggs (four for $2) perfect, salted duck also perfect (the half order is the size of a meal, so get the quarter order), pork/shrimp dumplings and the juicy dumplings were amazing. Pretty authentic food here. I got the Xiao Long Bao (Small Juicy Dumplings) and the Tzong You Bing (green onion pancake). The pancake was really good and a hit among my colleagues. The Xiao Long Bao wasn't as good as the ones I've had at Din Tai Fung in LA but they hit the spot. All of the servers were very polite and nice. They were accommodating and brought out forks for those who had problems with their chopsticks. For a bakery they only offer their tarts and such to go on the weekends, but they did have some packaged mooncakes and macaroons that were all right. read more

AMAZING soup dumplings!! I could eat it forever and ever and never get tired of it. The dumplings are just like Joe Shanghai's from Chinatown in NY; they are so full of flavor and you can't just have one. Or even one order. The only difference is that they are smaller... bite-sized. I actually like it better that way because it prevented me from awkwardly holding an oversized spoon while trying to slurp up the boiling hot soup from the dumplings before shoving it in my mouth... :) I have yet to try everything else there. I haven't had dumplings at enough restaurants in Dallas or in the United States to rate Jeng Chi's against them, but Jeng Chi's did remind me of the ones I had in China. Recommended to me for their dumplings. Which were decent. I feel they could've used more condiments though. And the noodle is a bit of a chew to get through. Which is great for soup noodle. More work than I'd prefer for a dumpling though. I've tried the beef, chicken and pork/shrimp dumplings. I'd rate them in that order from "worst" to best. "Worst" is unfair. They're all at least "decent". They just don't really do it for me. Onto a high note: if you like fruit tarts, this is your place. Their desserts are awesome. In the style of a nice French restaurant. The fruit mousses are really more like tarts, but if you're into that they're REALLY excellent. I mean how many places can you find a GOOD tart at? It's worth coming here for the desserts alone! Chicken Noodle Soup: I just had a sip of my son's. The broth is very mild. Tons of texture in the greenery though. Looks solid. Orange Chicken: Really very good. The only better I've had is at Sing Kee. They definitely do it right here. It was just a bit too candied for me. Bigger chicken chunks might help. But the flavor was good and the spice was just right. I feel like I'm being picky though because this will blow any Americanized-Chinese Orange Chicken out of the water. Fried Pork Noodle: Surprisingly heavy on the black pepper. Not in a dish-ruining way though. It was actually really good. I'd definitely order it again, and if it weren't for the last dish it'd be the clear winner of the night. Chicken Fried Rice: I've longed for the Chicken Fried Rice from Hong Kong Royal in Carrolton for a long time. I just live too far away to get back there. This is better! It's a "clean" fried rice not loaded down with butter and soy sauce. So it comes out looking white. But the texture is there and it's well seasoned. Loaded up with peas and green onion it's exactly what I want when I'm looking for Fried Rice. Next to Sing Kee's Duck Meat Fried Rice this is #1 by a mile. I'd give them 6 stars just for their rice if I could! On top of that it's one of the fanciest, nicest authentic-Chinese places I've been to. Oh, and it's worth mentioning their menu is well organized and not huge. Which is often a problem (for me) with this sort of cuisine. So... Awesome fruity and cream filled desserts. Great atmosphere.
