I don't live anywhere near this place but if I am in Richardson, I HAVE to go there. The food is amazing. It's consistently fresh and delicious. The restaurant itself is clean and the kitchen is mostly open. You can watch as they hand make those precious dumplings. The service is consistently good. I wouldn't call it fast but then, I'm not really looking for fast. I'm looking for an experience. It's a place I love to take my friends to for a fun evening or a leisurely lunch. read more

Beware of Gigi the waitress.... I've been here plenty of times and let me start by saying that the food is always fantastic. My family and I have never been disappointed with our food. My reason for two stars is because of the service we received tonight. Our server was Gigi and we've had her as our waitress before. She used to be very kind and would suggest new dishes for us and be very attentive. But tonight she seemed to have a huge problem with us. We are not fussy customers by any means. We ordered 3 waters and when she brought the water, we ordered our food. Nothing complicated, everything straight from the menu. Her attitude came when I asked for a container to put the rest of our soup in. Her response was "there's so little left, you can't just finish it?" Then when she came with our entrees, she sort of tossed them onto the table. Like she placed one side of the plate on the table and then just dropped the other side so it made a loud thud. It's a good thing that neither of our dishes had sauce or it would have splattered. We ended up only eating one dish so I needed a to go box for my Mongolian beef and steamed rice. She only brought one container and it was probably the smallest container she could find. I just barely fit my beef in it so I had to ask her for another container for my rice and that seemed like it was the biggest inconvenience for her. Not sure why my dad tipped her since he was pissed off too. If it were me paying I wouldn't have given her a dime. Needless to say, if we go back to Jeng Chi we will asking to asking to not be in Gigis section. read more

I have wanted to visit this restaurant for quite some time. I finally had the opportunity today. I was not disappointed. The service was great, very attentive and the food was superb. I enjoyed the juicy steamed dumplings that have the soup in them. Very tasty. I was glad I had seen a demonstration on how to eat them properly. All the dishes we ordered were so tasty and filling. We've been coming to Jeng Chi as a family for years...it's our go to place for all of our family dinner, birthday dinners. We're here so much that our favorite person there, Shoko and I have become best of friends!!! The food there is so good from their green onion pancakes to the small juicy buns! Recently moved to SD and have been having Jeng Chi withdrawals big time! The people there are so great, always friendly and so very helpful. Good food. Terrible Service. My first time here and my experience is the same as what other people here have already stated before: Food is great, but the service is terrible. Come here and you can tell that the wait staff are not very experienced or professional at all. Our waitress didn't know much english (which is fine) but she had an attitude (which is not fine). We had 6 people in our party, and we ordered 5 dishes; we didn't know they will only provide 1 bowl of rice per dish. So when we inquired about the rice, she immediately became defensive stating very bluntly that we would only get 5 bowls (we were just asking!) so we had to order another bowl (which is $1 per bowl). But frankly that isn't so bad because its not unheard of for asian places to charge for rice so I'll let that slide. While we were waiting for food a waiter put down a plate of veggies and briskly left. We didn't order it but we thought maybe it came with our soup so we dug in. A little while later, the waiter came back to try tell us about this, but then the manager waved him off saying it was ok. But a few minutes later, the waiter came back AGAIN to tell us that the dish will be added to our bill. What? The manager just told you it was ok! Whatever. Food finally came, and it was delicious to say the least. But the minute the food came, its like the wait staff just disappeared not attending to us at all afterwards. And at 100$ for 6 people it's not even that cheap. The dining area is small and not very interesting and the tables were dirty and sticky. I understand that our experience is probably uncommon, but the the way the staff handled it was unacceptable to me. They treated us like they just wanted to get our money and to get us out the door as fast as possible. If you can ignore the poor service then by all means come here. But I'm sorry to say that I will never be coming back. I would recommend everyone to head over to the nearby Canton instead for great food, better service, and better prices. read more

We could not decide on dumpling type, waiter suggested combo (2 of each)....my fav was the shrimp/ leek... Being the gringo i am, the other dumplings had a mystery meat quality that disturbed my non adventurous psyche. The best dish was the twice cooked pork... Tender pork,fresh al dente green bells and onions Sautéed In the most amazing garlicky, slightly spicy,oil sauce ( not really a sauce, more of an oil)....great to dip the pancake in. Service very fast....we came at 130 on Friday afternoon. Update ....ordered take out a week later....it was like a totally different place. I came here for lunch with my friends and lets just say I am in love with this place. My server was incredibly nice and my food came out pretty fast. This is definitely a family type restaurant because the size of the disks. We ordered dan dan noodle, beef turnover, crispy chicken and crispy fish in sweet and sour sauce for a party of 4 hungry girls and there was leftovers. I think that says a lot about the amount of food. The price is super affordable and the cafe in front was totally a plus. Out of the two plates I had to eat both were delicious. The crispy chicken especially was delightful, with great batter and all around taste. I also had the beef and broccoli and it was good also. I am going to give this place another try sometime and eat there and rejudge but below is my review as-it-was and the stars reflect it. Some of it is possibly not a fault of Jeng Chi staff but it could have been. I'll explain below. I got 2 items. The Small Juicy Steamed Dumplings and the Kung Pao Beef dinner. What happened is that almost all of the oil of my Kung Pao beef had leaked on the car ride home. As excited as I was to eat food from a new place, I didn't take sharp turns and I'm pretty sure I did not put the bag in a spot where the container lid could have been pinched off or the container itself punctured. I am not going to blame the staff but I am going to say, there are much better containers that have lids that "snap" on rather than the curling of foil around the lid. The reason this matters is when I got home and cleaned off the container and ate, the beef seemed really dry. Maybe it was cooked that way, maybe it was because the oil leaked. I don't know why but that's how it was. But the portions were excellent, it was spicy (I think it would have been more with the oil *sad face*) and it came with a good amount of green peppers and peanuts. I can definitely say the dumplings were excellent!! Of the type, I haven't ate any better anywhere. These were not spoiled by the drive home either, I pigged out on those in the parking lot :) Going back sometime and going to give this place another try but this time in house. Wow. This is really what Chinese food is and should be. You enter and the place looks good but when the food comes and you taste it you feel in awe. You can't help feeling sad about all other Chinese places you've spend money to up this point and you will surely come back. Fried shrimp or chow main is great. Dumplings oh my God! This is one place in Dallas where you should dine for Chinese food. A downside I may is that the staff does not speak English well. If you have questions, you are out of luck. They are nice and decent but you must speak the language to get the best understanding of the menu. As such stick to the basics known to you. The trade off is the awesome food you eat in this place. read more

I will start with positive notes. The jasmine tea was good, the restaurant is very clean and we received our food fast. Although this is all true, the food was bland and our actual waitstaff was rude. The spicy chicken was not spicy at all (this is coming from someone who doesn't like spice), the stir fry noodles lacked taste and the beef and broccoli was just wrong cause 1. they didn't use Chinese broccoli and 2. There wasn't enough oyster sauce. I would say you're better off going to first Chinese BBQ for better value and taste. read more

OMG this place was SOOO good! recently i went back to south korea and went to a chinese restaurant bc the neighborhood i was staying in was like a chinatown, anyway i went to a restaurant there that was in chinese and didnt know what to order so the waitress ordered for me, it was this AMAZING eggplant dish....well i've been dreaming about it. when i saw jeng chi had that dish i almost cried! it was so good....the one in korea was actually fried, while this one was braised. STILL amazing! my group also ordered different dumplings and they were so good. the staff was so friendly and food was brought out quickly. even though they were closing mid day they still served us and we never felt rushed. overall great expierence! read more

I feel compelled to write a review because this place is outstanding! I've been coming here for about 10 yes at the suggestion of a friend that was raised in Taiwan. She assured me that this was the most authentic dumpling house in all of DFW. They have yet to let me down and I continue to bring friends and family here to enjoy the wonderful atmosphere and cuisine. I would like to add a small note to future patrons. This place is very good and can get extremely busy. If your service is not up to standards please glance around and note these people are working very hard to make sure you have the best experience possible. They are always genuinely happy and extremely helpful. If you get a chance to see the old man back there hand rolling the dumplings, give him a wave! It's a very good experience! Best soup dumplings in DFW. Fresh and on point. Their other dishes are always superb. We have eaten the hot and sour soup, most of the chicken dishes, the dan dan noodles, and a couple of the beef dishes. Every dish is delicious and cooked to perfection. In addition, you have to try their loose leaf teas. I prefer the Chrysanthemum Tea. You know it's good because we go here at least twice a month. read more
