This place is the truth when it comes to Chinese food in Dallas. First off, there is a bakery up front, has great baked items if that's what you are looking for. Second, the food. OH the food. I have been looking for 4 years for a good solid Chinese restaurant, only took me 4 to find a great one. Restaurant is clean, servers are speedy and friendly, and the dumplings are AMAZING. Believe the hype on those, they won't steer you wrong. They take a little time to cook because they aren't frozen and thrown in to oil, they are handmade. Worth the wait I promise! For dinner I had Beef and Broccoli, Kung Pao Chicken, Pork & Leek dumplings, and Spicy Dan Dan Noodles. We shared between 4 people and it was way more than enough food. Flavor wise, they are not sodium crazy and the flavors really stood out in each dish. The beef in the beef & broccoli wasn't cheap cuts, it was very tasty! This place has grown, renovated, relocated, and gone up in price over the past two decades, but it still has a special place in my heart. We used to be able to order kang pao scallops for under $15, and they gave you a generous amount! My dad and I used to dine here once a week after my violin lessons back in the day. I've watched the restaurant succeed. Their flavors have changed a bit to cater to the American taste buds, but some of their dishes have stayed strong. Juicy pork dumplings, potstickers, twice cooked pork, beef in black bean sauce, eggplant in garlic sauce, and ma la dou hua bao (spicy tofu with ground beef in a pot?) are still really good here. Pork with garlic sauce has become Americanized, so I unfortunately no longer like it. XLBs were pretty good, nothing TOO special though. There were a lot of other dumplings, but we didn't try any of the other ones. This place apparently used to be BYOB but it's not anymore since they now serve alcohol. I didn't feel like there was a lot of variety to the menu. It was like half traditional Chinese and half Americanized Chinese food. There is also a small bakery section in the restaurant that I did not try bc it no longer looked fresh at the time I went (8pm). Overall, I would say if you are craving XLBs and have no place nearby to get it, by all means come here. Otherwise, it's just average. read more

Before coming here, I thought all Dallas had was greasy spoon Americanize Chinese food. Well I might be right since this place is in Richardson, but a quick drive from Dallas. My friend suggested this place for Sunday dinner, and I am so happy she did. I left the ordering to her and we ate family style. That's definitely the way to go so you can split many different dishes. We started with the scallion pancakes, and some crab & pork soup (juicy) dumplings. The broth in the dumplings was one of the best broths I've tasted, hands down. We also had a pot of the Churshe Jasmine tea, it was so floral and tasty. For mains, we shared the Dan Dan noodles, extra spicy, the hot bowl of fish with chili pepper over rice, and stir fried string beans with pork. The sauce in the Dan Dan noodles was this silky spicy peanut sauce that I could probably drink. The fish was cooked so well, and came in a thick broth so you only needed a little rice to soak it up. The string beans were cooked perfect so they still had a little snap to them. This was the perfect amount of food for 3 adults, and our bill was less than $60. The food came out quickly, our server was efficient, and the atmosphere was very Sunday family dinner night without being too loud. Can not wait to go again! read more

Easily the most delicious dumplings I've ever had. Small Juicy is the way to go, the beef dumplings are good but not as mind-blowing. Kung Pao chicken was especially delicious as was the won ton soup, which is huge. Waitstaff was very pleasant and helpful. Can't wait to go back. read more

The dumplings here are wonderful! The noodles and fried rice are excellent as well. Very flavorful. The only reason I gave 4 stars is our service was noticeably slow. It took us 15 mins for the waitress to even acknowledge us after we were seated, and we had to wait 10 minutes after we were finished eating to flag her down again for our check. She was super friendly and helpful, but it took away from the experience a little. Authentic and tasty Was brought here by a local for brunch. We ended up sharing an order of xialongbao, potstickers, beef noodle soup, and scallion pancake. Xialongbao - yummy and hot. The thing I didn't like (and this is being extremely nitpicky), is the dough is a bit thick and was a little mealy (it breaks easily). After having the famous Din Tai Fung earlier this year, it's hard to enjoy most homemade skins the same way. The skin is a bit thick on top where it pinches closed, but that's my only complaint. The ginger was cut very thin (how it should be). Potstickers - Pan fried and also yummy. I personally prefer potstickers to be closed to help seal in the juices, but i've also seen this style. The skins (store bought?) are very thin, and only pinched closed on top. Beef Noodle Soup - well seasoned, great broth. Good mix of noodles and the beef was well seasoned and tender. My only complaint is the bowl that you get to enjoy the soup, is easily filled up the thick noodles- which are served whole and not broken/cut. Not that it needs to be, but once you put a noodle or two in the bowl, you have little room left for anything else it seems. Scallion pancake - yummy! deep fried and crispy all over, but still with many layers inbetween and a reasonable salt level for taste. All in all, the food is very authentic and tasty. The decor and the shopping center aren't the nicest (not exactly fine dining) but the food quality/flavor and the prices are more than reasonable. read more

Love the food, hate the bad service. When this restaurant was at the smaller location, I loved the warm hospitality but ever since it moved to the new location, the food and service went downhill. It took 10 mins until a waiter acknowledged that I was trying to order, took them 20 mins to bring 2 glasses of water and 3 tries to get one order. And even after 3 tries the order was still so wrong that I just returned it to the kitchen. The waiter actually told me that the kitchen said they use different kind of pork in the ground pork with string beans when, CLEARLY, it wasn't even pork at all, it was chicken. read more

Wonderful experience tonight! Our first trip in and we were well taken care of by Harry (I think I caught his name as Harry). My husband and I and our two boys had a few dumplings as appetizers, shrimp and tofu, spicy chicken and veggies, beef fried rice and veggie noodles and we had so much food we brought home 3 full meals of delicious leftovers! It's a hole in the wall dumpling house, and probably the best Dallas has to offer (though I've heard the small juicy dumplings at Shanghai Restaurant are also very good), but obviously if you're coming from the West Coast, NY, or China then it's a little pale. read more

Jeng Chi has some of the best Chinese food I have ever eaten. I'm still thinking about the bit of sesame oil floating on top of my egg drop soup - so simple, but so good. I hade the pork-chop with noodles it's was excellent. Deep fried pork-chop and ramen can't get better than that. I also order some egg rolls and pork dumplings. The eggs rolls were a buck each and the dumplings were like 12 for less than 8 bucks. All in all it was a lot of food on the cheap. It's a typical Chinese bakery w/ some Chinese deli items as well as frozen dumplings for sale. We had a big party so it took forever o get seated bc the place is rather small. The menu is a little overwhelming but I usually stick with the same dishes. Get the hot and sour soup. It's pretty decent. Closest thing you'll find to homemade in a restaurant. Next, get the green onion pancakes. They are so crispy and flaky on the outside, yet so soft and chewy on the inside. A little bit of hot pepper in your soy sauce. Dip. Drool. Yum. The string bean with pork has amazing flavor. On rare occasions its a miss, but most days it's right on par. And of course, the juicy dumplings. I am not that big of a fan, but I dont really like dumplings in general. I'm told that I am a moron by all my Chinese friends for not liking these. Seriously...everybody loves these. I like the Ginger vinegar sauce it comes with tho. Finally, my favorite. Egg custard. Sooooo good. They only make a certain amount per day so if you go late, they may have already run out. Same goes for their other pastry breads. The coconut bread is so chewy and fluffy. The green onion bread is really good too if you don't have much of a sweet tooth. They seem to always run out of the breads around lunch time, so go early if you want it! Boo... The food came out super quick, my husband was a bit concerned it wasn't going to be good. But, surprise, surprise, surprise! Everything was delicious. Except the juicy dumplings, not a fan. This place has really great Taiwanese and Sichuan food. I love the spicy wontons, the spicy beef noodle soup isn't bad. We also got the braised bass in garlic sauce - so tasty! Can't go wrong with the spicy stir fried string beans or mapo tofu! Soup dumplings are solid here as well. We went to the bakery section another day, the baked stuff is okay. I was only liking the Chinese restaurant in Carrollton and was disappointed because it was pretty far.... However, now I'm in a much better position to get some great food. So they changed locations (just down a few stores but same strip mall) but the food, although I ordered all my staples from 10 years ago, was pretty good but not as good as it used to be. Not sure what happened to this place, but I've been a customer from the time my parents used to take me there. Since moving to their new location, portions got smaller, prices went up, and most importantly, the quality has plummeted. I thought maybe it was a fluke, so gave it 3 tries since moving locations; nothing has changed and I continue to tell myself that I will never eat there again. On my last visit, the beef noodle soup's broth was sweet and the beef was tough/dry. The small juiceys were definitely SMALL, and lacked depth in flavor. My friend and I ordered pork chop rice to-go for family members and the server came back to tell us that they only had 1 left (WTF???). This was around 7pm, so not even that late. To expand on the porkchop, my fiance would not eat it. I decided to try it the next day, and I see why she wouldn't eat it. The batter was off and the pork had zero flavor. Complete FAIL on two traditional Taiwanese dishes that they used to knock out of the park (porkchop rice/beef noodle soup). Such a shame, but I've given them all the chances that I can. No sense in wasting money/calories at this point. It's probably better to just order something westernized like Orange Chicken from there now. read more

Came here yesterday, and ordered the small soup dumplings, combination fried rice, beef roll, pig ears, and dan Dan mien. Ambience: nicer than most Asian restaurants. Service: same as most Asian restaurants - non-existent....but I couldn't care less so doesn't influence my review. Food: traditional, but quality is average. The soup dumplings were over cooked, and half of them didn't even have soup in them. The skin was decently thin though, and the flavor authentic. I'm sad that this restaurant has fooled so many people into thinking they have quality soup dumplings when this is the worst that I've ever had. For the quality, this is overpriced. Pig ears were good. Dan Dan mien - the noodles were handmade, but the sauce thinner than I liked. the portion is a tad too small for the price. Beef roll was traditional - using the cold cut Asian beef and a thin wrap similar to what's used for mushu pork. I appreciated how non-greasy and light the rolls were, however, for $14 for two rolls..this was the most overpriced dish we got. In la we usually get 4 rolls for that price...even in the Santa Monica area where Chinese food is totally overpriced! Combination fried rice flavors were good and authentic, but the chicken in the dish was waaaaaaaay overcooked and rubbery. Decent value though. Meal turned out to be $50, and my husband and I were perfectly full...so quantity was on the light side, and price on the high side for a Chinese meal for two. read more

Been coming here for 20 + years. Cannot say this any other way. They just do not care anymore. When they were smaller they were better. Great food AND great service. Now service is beyond poor. I own a service industry business and have made mistakes with customers in the past. Finding employees who want to serve others is a must, and they cannot seem to figure it out. My family has had numerous unhappy dealings with their new staff over the last 2 years since they've upsized. Rude at the counter. Rude when calling in for p/u orders. Orders are consistently wrong. Mopping with pine sol WHILE you eat. Is that even code? Servers disappear when 3:00 hits because that's when the restaurant closes for employee lunch. Guess what is the clear priority? Mom and pop were the best. My kids are adults now and remember them fondly. And I believe they still help keep the food quality pretty good. But it's just not worth the abuse form the current staff. Ever walked into a restaurant to hear a customer yelling at the staff? Pretty common here. You could be the next highly frustrated patron. Best bet is to order the dumplings frozen and steam them at home. Or go down 2 doors to Genroku and order simlar dishes with great service AND high quality. read more

Jeng Chi stands shoulders above the typical boring and bland Chinese restaurants across Dallas. They hand make all their noodles and dumplings, which are so fresh and light, yet perfectly firm. I always just focus on satisfying my cravings for dumplings. But the soups and entrees are always generous and light and fresh. Definitely our go-to spot. read more
