Not your stereotypical Chinese fare. Jeng Chi brings a different style of Chinese cuisine to the table, if you will, than what most Americans would be familiar with. But it's fantastic. Not the gloopy, starchy, over-sweet stuff that most Chinese joints specialize in, Jeng Chi's food is fresh, light, and perfectly seasoned. The only item there that I've tried that I wouldn't recommend again would be the tofu hot pot. Otherwise, the spinach soup with onion pancakes and some dumplings make for a great, inexpensive lunch. Horrible service at the new jeng chi location! Waiter was absolutely dumb. Never brought out the right items. Didnt even get what we ordered, and the waiter kept acting dumb. Had to cancel the order after waiting 40 mins...for dumplings!! Wth!! Cant possibly take that long for two orders of dumplings. Just bad bad bad service. Needs new hires. Dont go here!! Unless they hire better servers. I enjoyed the OLD jeng chi location. Even though it was small, the waiters didn't overlook the tables. Especially where they sat us in the corner. He barely came by! Wish I got his name. Even the manager up front didn't go around asking if people were doing ok. The atmosphere there is awful. Hope they staff new people soon. read more

Awesome! I eat gluten free not because it's a trend but because of medical necessity. Gluten free and Chinese don't really go together so I was apprehensive. What I found is that the manager was more than knowledgeable about what Gluten free is and what on the menu could be made to that standard. The Salt and Pepper Shrimp was AMAZING! I'm used to getting food without sauces and barely seasoned food. This was wonderfully tasty and the shrimp were huge! It was an amazing meal. While they cannot guarantee absolutely no cross contamination to a Celiac standard, they went out of their way to assure me that the food would be properly prepared. They delivered. The manager has assured me that they are working on a Gluten Free Menu for the future, but in the mean time, they took the time to work with me and we had a fabulous meal. I cannot wait to go back and try other selections!!! Oh yea, and the rest of the family enjoyed their selections as well. They devoured the dumplings. The beef and broccoli, my husband says, was the best he's ever had. The broccoli was just the right texture not too firm, not soggy and very flavorful. We'll be back! read more

The steamed dumplings are freshly hand made with perfection. Onion pancakes, Vegetarian Steamed or Boiled dumplings and vegetarian fried noodles are really good for folks who don't eat meat. Garlic chicken is a flavourful dish. Language is a barrier at times with the servers. read more

My first visit was pretty good. The crispy chicken may have been a little salty, but was overall pretty good. We ordered pork and shrimp dumplings, which were surprisingly very well made, and didn't taste too fishy compared to other dumplings I've had here in Dallas. I am a very busy person with a hectic schedule. I am now told after 19 years of dining here that I cannot order ahead to dine in the restaurant?? I have been eating here using the call and order ahead method since I was a small child. Dumplings take about 20-30 minutes to make, I do not have time to wait that long simply because the new management feels its better that way? I eat quickly and leave. If you are getting food here, its either to go (usually the wrong order), or dine in, which will take a very long time for them to bring all of the food. So I hope you have time to kill. Also order of delivery for meals at table is: side dishes-first Appetizers-second dumplings-last Strange I used to get appetizers first when I ate here a year ago? Since the new manager (a caucasian woman) feels a quick and efficient method of dining is incomprehensible I must undoubtedly reign a one star rating down on the "new" style of customer service Jeng Chi has to offer. Jeng Chi has for years been one of the few Chinese restaurants in DFW that serves quality soup dumplings. Unfortunately, our experience have not been the same for the last two visits. The dumplings are now smaller, have little or no soup inside, and the skin is much too thick. Other than a little fishy smell, there is hardly any noticeable difference between the regular soup dumplings and the ones with crab meat. What made it worse is that on our last visit, the food was just lukewarm and our scallion pancakes were not only burnt but they were also cold. To be fair, Jeng Chi does serve good Chinese tea, but at $10 a pot I didn't expect any less. There are more competitions for dumplings in Dallas, Plano, and Carrollton nowadays and unless Jeng Chi improves their quality, we will not be making the unnecessarily long drive there anymore. Hopefully, with the increase in demand for genuine and top quality Chinese dumplings, the Michelin star Din Tai Fung will open a branch in Plano sometime soon. read more

The dumplings were amazing. We were drawn here because we were trying out all the restaurants in the Chinatown strip area in Richardson. We had some of the juicy dumplings (yes you eat them out a soup spoon) and they were amazing. I have been experimenting with the menu choices. So far I have had: Pot sticker - were okay I prefer the pork and napa dumplings over these Cold pork in chili sauce - tasty Eggroll - best eggroll in the Dallas area Gui bao - pork buns. Good and flavorful Wonton soup. Good dumplings, the soup needed soy sauce Hot and Sour Soup. There is chili paste on the table to give it heat Shrimp in Garlic Sauce, Pork in Garlic Sauce, Chicken in Garlic sauce - all good. the shrimp is my favorite Orange Chicken, Orange Beef - both tasty. Kung Pao chicken - if you like spicy as for it, otherwise tasty Big bowl of beef in chili pepper sauce - wonderful. My go to. Snow Ice is good but I like to visit the bakery. The cream puffs are really good. On the weekends they have different kinds of buns and my daughter gets the red bean buns. Overall good, good service, variety of tea flavors and a really nice pomegranate martini. read more

There is no such thing as good Xiao Long Bao in Dallas. However, this is probably as close as you'll get. The green onion pie and beef/beef tendon noodle soups are also worth mentioning. Establishment does not have wide selection for appetizers so I always start off with the Hot n Sour Soup and Green Onion Pancake. Small Juicy Steam Dumplings is always a must have as well as Pot Stickers for those who like all things fried. I discovered leek is a very healthy vegetable for you so on days Im feeling healthy order some leek turnovers or the steamed pork, shrimp and leek dumplings are healthy as well. Establishment has been around for many many years ever since I was a young boy, give it a shot will not hurt modest food at modest prices. read more

Dumplings were a let down. Only the Xiao Long Vao was acceptable. Vegetables, fried rice, Fried noodles were below average, you can find better fried noodles at Panda Express. Lotus rice and onion pancakes were bland. Overall I felt that Jeng Chi was not authentic, and my experience at Caravelle much better. read more

I wish my review could be for 0 stars. I went to Jeng Chi a couple weeks ago with friends for the first time and thought the food was great. So when my family and I were looking for a place to order Chinese takeout, I suggested Jeng Chi. I wish I hadn't. We called 4 different times-no voicemail or call waiting--it just kept ringing and still no one picked up. On the 5th try someone answered and we ordered egg rolls, wonton soup, egg drop soup, sweet & sour pork, and moo shu pork. However, the moo shu pork is served with rice, which I wasn't expecting, so the server on the phone suggested another dish that would be similar. He told us it would only be 25 minutes until our order was ready. When we arrived 30 minutes later, our order was no where near ready--we had to wait another 15 minutes for our food to be ready. Once we finally got our food and took it home we unpacked it to find an extra entree--I'm still not sure which one was which--and the "moo shu pork"-like dish I was expecting was really pork belly bun sandwiches. Wonton soup: I ordered exact same wonton soup I had when I went to the restaurant, but this time it had 0 flavor. It tasted like water. The dumplings also had no taste. Needless to say it went down the drain. Egg rolls: edible, but nothing better than what you could buy frozen at the store, so save the money. Sweet & Sour pork: not sure which dish this was, as one was more spicy/briney and the other had egg. Neither was very good. "Moo shu pork": really pork bell buns, which were ok if that's what i was expecting. Honestly, I was so disappointed about this experience and mad that I spent the money for food we didn't even eat. I was so excited to share a new place with my family, but after this experience I will not return. read more

This place is the best for Chinese that I have every been. The egg rolls are supreme, and the dumplings could not be better. The sauces used do not taste like your run of the mill corn starch added MSG laden fare. Also, the food here is not greasy like some other Chinese restaurants. This place is absolutely fantastic! They have upgraded their menus and mark whether or not each item is gluten free. The pork and baby bamboo shoots is my favorite dish and a new favorite of mine is the water spinach with garlic. If an item is on a special dinner menu and you are unsure if it is gluten free, the waitress was able to get a list of allergens and determine whether or not a dish was safe. One thing that did occur during our visit last night was where a man walked in around 20 minutes before closing, and a waitress called on a waiter and informed him that he had a customer visiting him, and he exclaimed "OH REALLY?!" In what must have been disbelief that someone walked in rather close to closing. I was sitting a couple of tables away from the customer and could hear it loud and clear, so despite the fact that my experience at Jeng Chi was a five star one, that interaction by the waiter was inappropriate and if I was his customer it would have made my experience a 2 star since customer service is a pretty big deal to me. Usually at Chinese restaurants if the customer service is bad it's all around terrible throughout all of the waiters and waitresses, and those are times that I don't mind but since this experience was a specific waiter who stuck out like a sore thumb, I figured I'd mention it in this review to warn others that if you walk in 20 minutes before closing here and get this waiter, you might have an experience similar to what I witnessed.
