I was craving Chinese food on my birthday and heard that this place was really good. I live in Denton and there is nothing in the way of authentic Chinese food, growing up in Houston and living with a Chinese mother I missed it. This place had such good food and was sooo worth the drive from Denton to richardson. When you look at the menu all the dishes seem so simple but the taste is sooo good. Wow, the food was so fresh. I haven't had Chinese food that impressive in a long time. I love the fact that the kitchen is visible to the guests at the restaurant. You know a kitchen is clean when they put up glass walls so you can see them cooking. I wish I had tried the dumplings as that looks like one of their biggest hits. We shared the kung pao chicken and garlic spinach. Again, everything was delicious and affordable. We got out for right around $20 sharing two dinner portions and drinking water. I can't wait to bring my family here as they have lots of good family size tables. This is good Chinese food. Some of it is still fairly obviously Americanized, but it's the best Chinese we've found in the area.

A recent visit to Jeng Chi has improved my opinion of their menu. While they may not be the best at dumplings, Jeng Chi makes up for it in sheer variety. Soup, steamed, fried, and boiled dumplings are the main draw at this establishment, and they have a nice menu of Taiwanese/Chinese and Americanized favorites too. Service was much more attentive than I last remembered it, and there were no issues with communication either. A Saturday dinner revealed how much Jeng Chi's popularity has grown with the locals; the diners represented a broad cultural mix. Prices are extremely reasonable and great for family dining on a budget. Will go again! read more

Yummmm!!! I grew up in Dallas, and when I was young my whole family would come here so often that all of the staff knew my parents by name. This was about 20+ years or so, and I've only been back a handful of times as an adult since I live in Fort Worth now. But it never disappoints! I do kinda miss the more casual setup with the huge bakery. It was always a lot of fun to pick out some treats while my parents paid at the register. There wasn't much up front when I went most recently, which was kind of a bummer. The prices obviously have gone up, but I don't really mind because they food is so good. It's still very affordable for the quality of food! I always get the cold marinated eggs when I go. My boyfriend thinks they're just "eh" but I love them! Plus it's like 4 eggs for $2. Can't go wrong! My ultimate favorite dish there is the beef noodle soup with the dark broth. My boyfriend and I have had this dish several different places, and we both agreed Jeng Chi's is the best. The boiled dumplings we pretty good, but not necessarily something I'd go out of my way for. The juicy steamed dumplings were great! I'm so glad this place has stuck around for so long and hope it continues to do so. read more

Wow. We finally found an Asian restaurant near North Dallas which server very good authentic food at a reasonable price. We have visited 3-4 times and each time the food, quality and service is excellent. It is a short drive to get here but it is well worth it. I've been going here for years and I've tried a lot of the menu items, though it's hard to tear yourself away from the small juicy dumplings and green onion pancake once you've discovered them. Other favorites are the Hot Bowl of Beef (or fish) with chili, twice cooked pork, wonton soup, potstickers... It's all good. read more

Huge fan. Jeng Chi offers the best xiao long bao (soup dumplings) in the city. They recently renovated and relocated a few doors down, to a more spacious and cleaner venue. The service is better there, also. If you've ever been to the famous Din Tai Fung in Asia, Cali, or Seattle, you'll know what I mean, when I say that Jeng Chi is trying to make it like DTF. There's a see through window to the kitchen, where you can see dumplings being made. I also like their fried potstickers and egg tarts. Yum! They're also very reasonable priced. I probably dine at this restaurant once a month and usually order the same thing. I recommend their steamed dumplings over the boiled option. They have cooks that specialize in just the making of dumplings which are made to order. You cannot go wrong with that kind of craft. The lamb stir fry is good. My only disappointment is the lack of beer/wine selection. Which seems like they picked it out of a bin 3/$10. Stands in my bubble for about 5 minutes trying to figure out the hand device. Food comes out first and tea comes after. Serving of food was not were even close to a child portion.
