Jeni's has recently been slipping in my opinion in terms of quality. Just a few years ago Jeni's was the gold standard in premium ice cream. But lately, the standards have been slipping on multiple fronts. Over the years, this location has seen a revolving door of new faces. But initially, this location had a very steady and consistent team who were so pleasant and seemed to really enjoy working here, now those people are gone, and the current team has some friendly people, but also some folks who almost seem angry to be working. For example, the last two times, we've had girls who scoop the tiniest scoops possible and seem despondent. Once it was my signature flight, and this most recent time, it was my husband's. This ice cream is way too expensive to be giving minuscule scoops out- I'm sure there is a standard, because the last two times we were grossly underserved and it felt like throwing our money away. The another issue that bothers me about Jeni's lately is the curation of their summer flavors. It's a hundred and five degrees outside and they only have a few fruit-forward flavors to choose from. Is fruit just too expensive these days? In years previous you'd have a better selection of fruit-forward options, this year it's like everything is chocolate- which I don't eat. It feels really limiting. Another item feel troubled by with Jeni's is their take home products. The Passion Fruit Creamsicles and Key Lime Cookie Sandwiches are filled with air. I feel like these desserts have almost no milk fat in them...they are not even called ice cream- I think they are "frozen desserts". So, I'm not falling for it anymore. It's unfortunate that I used to love this brand so much, but just like anything that becomes wildly popular, they have aggressively scaled up and the thing that made this brand so unique, is gone. Had a craving for ice cream after Pilates. Now I've heard plenty about Jeni's from patrons here in Dallas. I have compared this to Salt n Straw back in L.A. this is as close as I've come to hold ice cream with unique ingredients. I'm used to having something on the ranks of shiney Lavender and Sea Salt and Caramel Ribbons, but this place was a good start to my ice cream spot back at home. You are allowed to sample and get a small standard size if you don't want large scoops of ice cream. I enjoyed the Gooey Butter Cake. I ended up getting honey vanilla bean, double dough, and bramble berry crisp in a waffle bowl. All the flavors were delicious and the half scoops were perfect for those who want to get ice cream without getting too full (or those who have some room for desserts after eating at the other restaurants in the area). The waffle bowl in particular was a little salty to balance out the sweetness of the ice cream. It was thin and easy to snap off. The cashier lady was extremely bright and energetic too. Just an overall great ice cream place with great vibes. The only advice I would give to new customers or those who haven't been here in a while is to go down the line to see the different flavors. Each section and worker helping out different customers largely have the same flavors BUT there are a few flavors that aren't in the section of the person helping you out. There are also outdoor seating (for when it gets cooler). The interior was brightly lit and gave off a colorful vibe. They have a lot of ice cream flavors. Some were overpoweringly sweet, while others aren't while still being flavorful. You can sample any flavor before ordering. The ice cream comes in your choice of waffle cone, waffle bowl, or regular paper bowl. They say "half scoop" on the menu, but their half scoop totally looked like a normal full scoop and then some. I think they call it a "half scoop" to make your conscience feel better. All of their flavors are available to-go in pint sized containers. We ordered the sweet potato marshmallow praline and darkest chocolate flavors in a regular paper bowl. Both turned out pretty good. Great spot for a spontaneous mommy & son date! Was going to get my son ice cream from Shake Shack when I realized this super adorable ice cream shop was right next door. They have a really cute and kid friendly space with indoor and outdoor seating and a structure outside that a bunch of kids were using to climb on and jump off of! Because of Yelp, I get to try 3 scoops of different flavors before committing on buying a few pints to share with my nieces. I've had Jeni's the first time when Yelp introduced them to me at their location in Deep Ellum. It's wonderful that they now have a new location with easier parking and more accessible especially if you're bringing your whole gang for a quick treat. This trio do not complement each other but really, really delightful on their own. While I was enjoying my treat I took a video of all the flavors to tell my sister about it then she asked if I could bring them a pint of their Salty Caramel and BBAB. I was worried because it was rush hour and the pints will melt in the car driving from Addison to Allen. They held up well! The brown paper sack helped with the transport to keep the cold in or maybe, just maybe because of How Jeni's rearranged the ice cream molecules to reach the outmost pleasure for us to enjoy their product.
