This place has such unique flavors and they were all pretty good. My sis and I couldn't decide on just like 1-2 flavors so we ended up getting like 5 different flavors. The coffee and toast was paired with the hazelnut tiramisu. I loved the coffee flavor and thought it was delicious because you had the contrast of crunch. The hazelnut tiramisu was good too, especially when you finally get it with the bite of lady finger, but not my favorite. The white peach and lychee was so refreshing but my sis found it a bit too sweet for her liking. The mango sticky rice is good but as a SE Asian who grew up with mango sticky rice...this honestly just tasted like a mango sorbet and I wish I got more like coconut milk or some black sesame seeds or more of a forbidden rice flavor to make me go like "whoa. This really is mango sticky rice" The lone scoop was Oreo miso and it was so yummy! I loved it and honestly recommend it for any oreo lover. The girl who was working was so friendly and patient with me and my sister who literally stood there trying to contemplate which flavors we wanted to split before deciding we simply needed to try them all. read more

Best ice cream I've ever had in Austin, and I've lived here for over 20 years! Everything about the experience was amazing. The ice cream packed intense flavors, and I could really tell that the quality of ingredients was really high. It also had the most perfect, luscious texture - not icy, not too fluffy or dense.. honestly just exactly what I want from ice cream. I tried 3 flavors (Dial C for Cookie, Bergamot Cheesecake, and Chocolate Peppermint), and they were all great! Next time I will be more adventurous - there's some pretty wild sounding flavors on the rotating menu. Another big plus was that the owner is super nice and friendly. He was very accommodating to my nut allergy and even hand washed the scoop for me. He's also the guy making all the ice cream and the individual ingredients inside (like the cookies), doing the cleaning, and even taking out the trash! Big respect. All in all, a 10/10 experience. We've been here twice in the span of two months so I feel like that is saying something! My only thing is they do have weird hours so check before you go. They always have atleast one rotating flavor that is worth a try. The Oreo Miso is a fan favorite for a reason and sells out fast. I've also tried the Persian Honeycomb which is so delicious with the cardamom and saffron. They had a raspberry lychee sorbet when we went that had really strong lychee flavor. My second time they happened to have a matcha popsicle that had such a strong matcha flavor with bits of matcha candy mixed in. We will be back to try their rotating flavors! read more

For a special treat, this is the ice cream truck that stands out. Every flavor sounds like an amazing trip of flavors. I tried the Turkish honeycomb, which was the exact treat I needed to end a hard day. One scoop was enough for me, but I would want more if the weather was hotter. My friend ordered the peach cheesecake, which was exactly what you would hope for in a cheesecake ice cream. I will get that one and more scoops next time. read more

Merry Monarch Merry Monarch's was just incredible I was looking for a new ice cream place and was so happy I tried this. The ice cream is soft and so rich in flavor but not loaded with ingredients. It's the perfect ratio. I was recommended to try the Cantelope Crumble and it was impeccable - the slight crunch and brush of cantaloupe flavor was the perfect ratio. 12/10 I also had the Persian Honeycomb & Oreo Miso which were also so tasty Overall, amazing ice cream and you can talk directly with the owner! read more

This is not your traditional ice cream truck. They have flavors that you will not find anywhere else, and they are all absolutely delicious! Each guest gets to sample two flavors (which keeps the line short). I ended up ordering the Oreo Miso and Persian Honeycomb in the half scoop size, and this was still more than enough. Amazingly, the more subtle tastes like the miso and saffron came through in each bite! They were not overpowered by the main flavor at all. The worker serving the ice cream was extremely friendly as well. The truck is located in a food truck park, making it an easy dessert choice after dinner. Plus, it is relatively low-priced compared to other ice cream spots for the quality of ingredients. One of the best ice cream spots I've ever visited! read more

Greg of Merry Monarch is truly dedicated to his craft. The only ice cream place in Austin with such unique and exciting flavors- it is a good problem to have when you spend too long trying to decide what flavors to get. Good thing you can get two flavors with the split scoop ($7). Greg is continuously working on bringing new flavors to the game, which sometimes depends on the seasonality of the ingredients. Probably my favorite ice cream in Austin. The food truck is located in a food truck park, and has a shared parking lot with the other businesses. It can get crowded during busy times so you may have to find parking elsewhere. There is outdoor seating available in the food truck parking lot. read more

Wow was I impressed with this place!! We came here close to closing but the owner was very patient and friendly, explaining the two flavors that I ended up getting (Dial C for Cookie & Bergamot Cheesecake) in a lot of detail. You can tell he's knowledgeable and passionate about what he does just by the way he talked about his ice cream! He makes everything by himself and puts so much energy and care into it (he even bakes all the cookies in the ice cream from scratch!!). Now for the ice cream itself, I have nothing but good things to say. The texture was oh so good--creamy but not too creamy, soft but not too soft, honestly my ideal ice cream texture. The flavors were deep and complex, with many elements working together to make for an amazing taste experience. Props to the owner for making delicious ice cream, treating his customers so well, and running the whole operation by himself! This is now my go-to ice cream in Austin. read more

Who knew you could get some of the best ice cream in Austin from a food truck? Merry Monarch is absolutely worth visiting. I really enjoyed my scoop of wild blueberry ripple. The owner was super nice. He made sure to get a scoop with pockets of the compote that burst in your mouth. The ice cream was rich and smooth with just the right amount of sweetness. I finally went here, and oh my gosh, the mango sticky rice flavor was so good. It tastes intensely of mango, is super creamy and refreshing, and has bits of sticky rice swirled throughout, but there's no actual rice pieces, just the sweetness of the sticky rice, so it doesn't break up the smooth texture. This flavor was gluten free too! The owner was so friendly and I appreciated her walking me through choosing a flavor. I need to come back and try the other flavors, like the coffee and toast and the miso oreo. It's located in the food trailer lot with Dawa sushi, T-loc's hot dogs, and Dosa Shack, so it's easy to pick up dinner while getting ice cream. The ice cream definitely helped cool me down while waiting on sushi. read more

The Oreo miso is delicious, the persian honeycomb has actual honeycombs in it, coffee & toast has toast pieces that add the perfect crunch. We found out about Merry Monarch Creamery while visiting Tsuke Edomae restaurant. Chef Mike served us their Oreo miso chocolate ice cream, and directed us to drop in if we wanted to try other flavours. Of course we took up on that offer and showed up to their ice cream shop/truck. Chef Greg Maze was very welcoming, and served us his olive oil sundae, and morello cherry sorbet. The flavours were both savoury, creamy, and perfect balance of sweetness. I couldn't get over how lovely the olive oil sundae was with hints of rosemary. Since we were also visiting from Houston, we took back pints of the Oreo miso chocolate, fig Madeira, and coffee with cherries in a cooler with ice packs. Can't wait to visit them again soon! This place was wonderful. Came here after eating at another truck in the lot for dinner. The gal that helped us let me try two different types of ice cream. The flavors are so unique! I had one scoop but split between two different kinds. I had the Persian honeycomb which has cardamom. The crunch from the candy was cool. I also had hazelnut tiramisu. Both were delicious and I would definitely get them again. I thought the price for $5 scoop was good for such unique flavors. They serve the ice cream with a wooden spoon not plastic - love this Highly recommend checking this place out off you like different unique flavors read more

Yummy and unique creamy ice cream flavors. There was a Dine with Maui fundraiser and they had POG Cheesecake and Tigers Blood Sorbet as their special flavors. I got there a little bit before 6 thinking that there wouldn't be a line since they had just opened 30 minutes earlier and it was 105 degrees outside but I was wrong. The line went pretty quickly though. Service is pretty quick and you get your scoops right after you order so there is no extra waiting. I got the POG Cheesecake; which is an interpretation of the POG drink - Passion Fruit, Guava, and Orange in this creme fraiche cheesecake ice cream. It even came with a sprinkle of guava dust and ripples of Orange curd. This is some good stuff. The price is about $5 for a single scoop which isn't a huge portion but just enough. They have a double for about $8 and you can even get a 1/2 scoop for $3. If you have kids, there's a playscape right next to the truck as well. read more

And, they have plastic tasting spoons, so in case you dont like eating off of wood spoons just ask for a tasting spoon. read more

Y'all know you can eat ice cream in Austin year round, right? Right??? I plan to, anyway. This place is such a treat - not too far from home, unique (sometimes changing) flavors, and really decent serving sizes. I'd really recommend getting two flavors and sharing, though, they are WILDLY different and all so good! One recommendation is to ask the owner if he can tell you which flavors are bold vs. mild. I realized we enjoyed the bold flavors quite a bit more - our favorite being the chocolate coffee cherry. Texture - 10/10, Flavor - 10/10, cute Austin truck park - 10/10! read more

One of the top three ice cream parlors in Austin. Okay - its a truck. But the ice cream is on a par with the best of the brick and mortars. Just for the record - The other two best ice cream places in Austin are Lick (both north and south of the river) and Thai Fresh (and its north of the river sister, Gati) There is no ranking among the top places. They are ALL wonderful. * * * Lick is orgasmically wonderful traditional ice cream. Thai Fresh is orgasmically wonderful Thai coconut milk ice cream. Merry Monarch thinks about ice cream a completely different way. Knock you out rush ecstasy is not what Merry Monarch is all about. Merry Monarch is a complexity and sophistication play. The flavors are sweet - but the sugar is background here. Each flavor of ice cream has multiple multiple ingredients. The flavor combinations are complicated and original. The ingredient lists per ice cream are long. Every single ingredient is flavorful. Make that super flavorful. The flavors change constantly as you go through the scoop. I had a fig madeira ice cream. There were several other flavors put in to play off the fig and madeira. But fig was the dominant element. This includes having whole figs in the ice cream and fig chunks in the ice cream. I bought a pint of the stuff. I was intrigued from the very first spoonful down to the last scrapings of the sides of the container. My wife had one of the few one ingredient options - a Hungarian sour cherry sorbet. There was sugar in it so it was not as stringent as Hungarian sour cherry can be on its nasty days. But it was uncompromising and demanding. This was not Cherry Life Saver or Cherry Cola by any stretch of the imagination. This was Hungarian mixed emotions - a world where suffering and happiness come together as part of the complexity of life. It was wonderful stuff. I would eagerly order that one the next time. * * * Merry Monarch is a truck at the 5000 Burnet Food Court. The 5000 Burnet Food Court is the absolute best food court in the city. Merry Monarch is an eminently worthy addition to this fine location. And word is getting out about how good it is. It has only been open a few days and there are lines to get the ice cream. Many flavors sell out. Note as well that Merry Monarch has very limited hours. (An hours sign on the front of the truck would be most welcome ... Cough cough cough cough cough.) But this is a place you definitely want to go. * * * Postscript: If you are coming to 5000 Burnet Food Court anyway - You may as well have dinner before your dessert. There are famous places like T-Loc's Sonoran hot dogs. If you have not eaten at T-Loc's, you have not truly lived. One truck that is amazing and wonderful and just not getting the business it deserves is the Dosa Shack - a very very nifty South Indian food truck. The dosas go great with ice cream and the food at the truck is first rate. Of course - there are other wonderful trucks at 5000 Burnet if South Indian is not your thing. Actually, you are likely to be coming back to Merry Monarch many times. Eat around the circuit. (COI Statement: I don't work for 5000 Burnet. I just love the place.) * * * Regardless of which truck you go to, Remember what Mom said: You can't have your ice cream until you finish your dinner! read more

After hearing a friend raving about this place, I decided to trust his recommendation of trying the Oreo miso ice cream - Oreo and white miso ice cream with chunks of oreo cookies and dark chocolate hazelnut truffles. Wow! So good! The ice cream is rich and creamy, and the chunks of dark chocolate hazelnut truffles are soft and chewy. They have different flavors on their menus for ordering by the scoop vs. by the pint and they make all of their unique flavors from scratch. Call me old man because I'm not usually the type to want to eat ice cream during the cold season. That's how you know this place is the bomb, when the ice cream is so good that I'd even go here while Ted Cruz goes to Cancun (cause it's so cold). I've tried only 4 flavors so far but they're each so unique and delicious that I've got to come back to try them all. I first heard of Merry Monarch Creamery through Tsuke Edomae, the exceptional omakase spot. If Chef Mike serves it, it's gotta be good. The Merry Monarch truck is found between the play area and the Dawa Sushi truck in the 5000 Burnet lot. We ordered two single split scoops and were only charged for one double. Very generous service and portions! I opted for the chocolate coffee cherry and oreo miso. Really rich and complex flavor with a super creamy mouthfeel. The oreo miso has a distinct savory element which I enjoyed but may not be for everyone. I'm not sure how often flavors change but I'm excited to try more of the unique offerings. A very needed addition to Austin's dessert scene! read more

This is by far my favorite ice cream spot in Austin. I'm a huge sucker for matcha and this hit the SPOT. I got the matcha caramel flavor and it was amazing. It was rich, creamy, and the perfect amount of sweetness. I also got the oreo miso which was really good too!! It was my first time trying this flavor and it was surprisingly very tasty. I just got served the best ice cream in Austin! Handmade ice cream packed with unique flavors. It felt like a real austin experience coming to this food trailer park on Burnet and grabbing a bite. The hand drawn menu boasts a good selection of scoops. 2 oz is $3 and 4 oz is $5 - which is so cheap! With that kind of pricing, it's best to treat yourself to a flight of scoops. You must order Oreo Miso, Persian Honeycomb, and HK milk tea (while it lasts!) . I'd heard raves about Oreo Miso, and people leaving parties just to get it, and the hype checks out! Don't sleep on the other flavors though- Blueberry Lemonade sorbet is a must order to balance all the creamy milky ice cream. It's refreshing and chalk full of flavor. Didn't get a great picture of the ice cream but got the oreo miso and apple chai flavors! The apple chai flavor was super good with little apple chucks in it. Normally, I'm not the biggest fan of flavors I associate with pastries used in ice cream, (strange, I know), so I was surprised at how much I liked it. The miso of the oreo miso flavor was a little strong for me, almost overpowering the ice cream with saltiness. However, I still really liked this flavor!! Dang...I am not a review kind of guy but this ice cream is no joke. I am a cheap guy so the $5 for a scoop scared me off until I tried the first scoop and was impressed. Gregory was as good as the ice creme. Get here early though. They were sold out of 4 flavors after the first hour. read more

We came here to try their ice cream on a Saturday night. They are located inside this food truck area where there are several other food trucks. It's a good place to get a casual dinner and ice cream. We try to get their famous oreo miso ice cream, so we tried had to try their other ice creams. So I would suggest to come early. You can also check their webesite to check that they still have certain ice cream available that day. We try the cantaloupe and cherry coke ice cream. I like the cantaloupe ice cream. It was really good. The cherry vanilla coke as good too. Still one of the better ice cream I've tried in austin however it was just a little sweeter than what I wanted. But still really good. Recommend coming here if you're trying other food trucks in this area. read more

Update: I've been informed that the texture issue I mentioned in my early review should no longer be an issue now that they've worked out the kinks! I can't rave enough about the "Royal Tea" flavor and plan to grab a second pint myself when it's back in stock. read more

Top 2 ice cream I've ever had. I could just stop there but I feel the need to expand upon my statement. First, the flavors are the obvious standout. I got the Oreo Miso and the Coffee Gianduja and I was absolutely stunned. The Oreo Miso was salty savory, almost like soy sauce ice cream with cocoa, Oreo like flavor. It really lived up to the hype. The coffee though, oh jeez the coffee. The beans used for it were likely not cheap, and the texture for both? Insane - it was the kinda texture that you get from truly homemade ice cream - smooth, creamy and easy to eat. 100% best ice cream I've had in Austin, frankly not even close. Okay service, but could be better, Ambiance: Came here for dinner, and they seated us in the middle, where there was no AC running. Dark ambiance and busy atmosphere. Took about 30 minutes for 2 people to get seated! Very loud inside.

He was very attentive and checked in throughout, ensuring we had enough water and beverages. After being sat, we were immediately met with sourdough bread with butter and sea salt. We ordered oysters including 4 that were dressed--very fresh, tasty and I'd return for the oyster happy hour which is Monday to Friday from 3pm-5pm (they are a bit pricey) The star of the show was the octopus--I've had octopus across the US and globe and honestly one of the best I have had, so glad we ordered in.
