Dining here was one of the worst experiences I've had in a while. It seems like our server was very incompetent and did not know what she was doing. I'm talking no water, no utensils, no napkins--nothing. And when asked about the drink choices or menu items, she had no idea what they entailed. Definitely not a good look. It took nearly 30 minutes to place our order, and the restaurant was not busy at all. Now I see why. The manager was trying her best, though, but they need to retrain their servers properly. The oxtail tacos were phenomenal; the curry chicken, not so much. The drinks--I had a rum punch, and it was a solid six out of 10. They have a lot to work on! Giving them two stars was generous, as I am Jamaican and biased toward other Jamaican establishments. I wouldn't be back, though. read more

This is the story of how I almost missed out on my blessing. All week I had my eyes set on trying the jerk chicken here before watching the Lion King broadway show at the Hippodrome theatre. While conversing with other theatre aficionados on a short elevator ride, I almost bailed out on my jerk chicken craving for Afghan food. Greeted by a neon sign, I could smell a waft of the island vibes calling me back home through pimento pepper and audibly in the strum of guitar, beat of the Nyahbinghi drum as the sound system thumped. Walked into the Jamaican restaurant and from the aesthetics to the Honorable Marcus Mosiah Garvey mural, I was immersed into the picturesque atmosphere of the bushes of Negril with a Kingston yard flair. It was nostalgia for the empress and I to be seated next to vinyls I love like Survival, Til Shiloh, and an anthology of the Cool Ruler himself. Nuff respect! We ordered the beef patties (delicious with tasty sauce) and shareable Yaddie Jerk Chicken dinner. It came with rice, peas, cabbage and 7 pieces of chicken. We also added Mac n Cheese. Chicken was fall off the bone like Scar falling from Pride Rock. Presentation was king and jerk chicken exuded opulence in a steel pot presented to us as the chicken remained hot from the flames of the burner. Chicken was seasoned nice and you know I wouldn't be Trini or Caribbean for that matter, if I didn't ask for the pepper sauce. Pepper sauce is a must. The scotch bonnet provided was a nice treat. All the sides were good. The empress doesn't like coconut and we loved the rice and peas. The waitress Amber was friendly and stayed on top of things. She told us the Mac n Cheese was a hit with the customers and no lie was detected! We were smiling vibrantly with each bite but the mac and cheese not to be outdone, had a better smile than us. lol So good. We ended the evening on a positive vibration with the tasty pineapple rum cake. Empress prefers her dessert warmed and it came out warm. I should have ordered two. Like Chronixx say, Smile Jamaica. We went to Jerk at Nite prior to attending a show at Hippodrome. The location is convenient. We checked to see if they could accommodate gluten free and were told they could. We got seated. There were three other tables and two people at the bar. The were a couple of servers and someone behind the bar, even though we were told we couldn't order drinks from the bar. A server came over and dropped off a couple of waters. We continued to see that server make several trips to table one and a couple of trips to table two. After 20 minutes, we got up and found somewhere else to eat. I can appreciate not being rushed. But it's not like they were understaffed or slammed before the show. We were across from the host stand, not in a corner. But somehow we were invisible. read more

The food did not make the cut as you can see lol, but I spent a lovely Thursday afternoon being serviced by the lovely Amber. She was as sweet and attentive as she was helpful. I had the pleasure of trying the beef patties, a side of mac n cheese, the Jerk Chicken (and please believe it can feed two people) ha! and the rice & peas with cabbage. EVERYTHING was divine. This was my first time visiting the location in the downtown Baltimore area, and the ambiance was so relaxing. Every time I closed my eyes all that was missing was the sounds of the ocean. We arrived around 11pm and waited nearly 40 minutes to be seated because every table was dirty. Staff kept assuring us we'd be seated once they cleaned a table, but it took far too long. After finally sitting down, our waitress took our order, and we waited over an hour and 15 minutes--our food never arrived. We eventually left without eating. The restaurant was extremely understaffed, the soda served was flat and warm, and when I mentioned this to the manager, her only solution was to suggest I order an alcoholic drink instead. Ohkkayy- food is phenomenal(period) - westmoreland wings, beef patties, plantains (stop)! Wow, it was Saturday evening we arrived at 7pm, the Bar service has a major problem. Waitress took drink orders and warned us that the Bar was backed up. Our waitress who by the way was working hard, recommended the signature drinks: rum punch or keylime French 75, we ordered the French 75. We waited 30 minutes for drinks that never arrived. Waitress returned to tell us they did not have the ingredients for the drink. We ordered regular French 75. They arrived 15-20 minutes later and were missing the champagne, sent them back. Ordered the rum punch and didn't get them til 8:20. Food arrived at same time. They were out of ice. We literally saw a worker come in with bags of ice. This was not an anomaly, the waitress came over twice to apologize because the bar was backed up. The table next to us had the same backup with drinks and waited longer for their entrees. I'm sorry but there is no way this place can make any money if they are unable to get drinks out from the bar. Then, they turned up the music to an untenable volume about 8:45pm. And, I have to shout out our incredible waitperson, KeKe--she is absolutely wonderful and goes the extra mile to take care of your table attentively, but without hovering. I've been excited to try their DC food truck for awhile now, so I was over the moon when I saw they had a Baltimore location. I had a subpar experience to start, but I would return to see how they improve after working out a few kinks. GLOWS: - Prices are fair for the value of food in the meals - The space is nicely decorated--it adds another layer to the typical Caribbean carry-out vibe. - The space for outdoor and indoor seating is a nice touch. - Good plantains GROWS: - There is an "old" menu posted, listing items that we were told no longer come with the meal (bread included with pasta). With the place just opening, I'm not sure how the menu is old--- but either way, they should update their menu to avoid false advertising. - Overall the food was not the best that I have ever had. Very heavy on pepper and lacking in some other flavors. (jerk pasta, jerk chicken) - Coco bread was hard as a rock. - The mac and cheese appeared to have been sitting under a heating light for several hours. Server took a while to come to us, ordered my food, took a while then was told they were out of the wings but probably because someone who came in after me had wings yet I didn't. I ordered beef patties, the waiter asked if I wanted anything else and that it was ok she got me because of the mixup so I added chicken tacos. Those eventually came out and were just ok. When the bill came of course both items were on it. I addressed with her, she said she's take them off but only took off my dates plantains. There's a window right at the center that seemed like it was about to fall every time someone open and closed the door. You could tell it's fallen before because part of it was busted already. The host who seemed like the manager didn't speak to us at all or come to check in out issued until the couple after us who got my food left nice and full apparently. Gentrified reggae music played in the background. Nearly an hour later, we were finally served drinks from the bar. The drinks were ok but I was unclear on the substance floating in my drink. One of my party members received their appetizers and stated the mac n' cheese and jerk wings were good. Me and the other party member waited an additional 15 minutes before our food arrived. I've eaten here several times and each time the food is good. I've only tried the jerk chicken so far but it's very delicious! The cabbage is good and flavorful and make sure to get extra jerk sauce. Sometimes the plantains are crispy and other times they are soft. It just depends on the day but they are still good too. My coco bread was soft. Hopefully I can try the jerk n Mac soon as they were sold out one time and the other time the wait was 45 min. Either way you gonna wait a while for your food. We have been eying jerk at night since it was a food truck in DC. Several people posted photos and the food looked delicious. When we heard about the store front in Baltimore, we knew we had to try it since I love Caribbean food so much. The set up is swanky. The outside resembles a tiki hut with tables set up outside just in case you want to hang out and eat. The inside is nicely decorated and they play really good reggae while you wait for your food which might I add is not for very long. The signage is very clear as to where to order and pick up. I ordered the jerk pasta and added chicken. One issue I had is that the menu says that the pasta comes with bread. After ordering and asking for coco bread instead I was told it was an old menu posted In the restaurant and that bread is not included. I paid the extra because what it's pasta without bread, but I didn't understand how they just opened and the menu was outdated. I also tried the jerk Mac and cheese The food was good. The pasta and chicken were seasoned well. The Mac and cheese was tasty too. I can't say it's the best I have ever had but it held its own. Again, this food was a little pricier than the carryout. It's not just enough to make good food. You have to be professional. My wife's jerk tacos had bones in it. That's kinda dangerous. While the food had tasty familiar seasoning, everything was on top. The Mac and cheese had all of the cheese on top and was almost naked in the middle. The jerk chicken too. You gotta work the seasoning into the meal and make sure it's incorporated throughout. My coco bread was a soggy mess. Partly because I traveled 20 minutes and they pack it in the container with the food. They should put it separately. The staff wasn't friendly and the wait was long but the food was on point. I bragged to all my friends and when I took my husband we picked up an order to go. When we got home (20 min drive) the pasta wasn't mixed like I've had it previously and the chicken was very tough and dry. I adore Jamaican cuisine!! This would be my third visit to Jerk At Night, and I would no longer be returning. After hearing so many people rave over the tacos, I decided to buy some jerk salmon tacos with a side of Mac. I can now clearly understand why I struggle with trust. I didn't see any fish pieces, but I did see the salmon skin, and the dish was salty. I was so underwhelmed by the price of my food--$30--that I was on the verge of demanding a refund, but that's just not how I roll.
